New Camera Raw Update doesn't support Aperture 2.1.4?

I just did an OS update for Camera Raw and am now able to read my Canon 550D/T2i RAW files using Preview. However, in my Aperture 2.1.4, I still get "Unsupported Image Format". Does the update not support Aperture 2.1.4 ? I thought Aperture's ability to read RAW files is tied to the OS's ability.

RAW support page is here:
http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Note:
EOS Rebel T2i EF-S / 550D / Kiss X4**
Indicates it requires Aperture 3 or later.

  • Lastest camera raw update doesn't work. Bridge no longer recognises my raw files.

I'm using CS 6 and lastest camera raw update doesn't work. Bridge no longer recognises my raw files.

Let's see if I can simplify it for you...are you using CS6 (yes, it seems), are you having ACR problems (yess it seems). So, do you want to fix your issues? Then read this (pay close attention to the details)...
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html
It pretty much says you need to download a different version of ACR and install it (if it's not too diffucult for you to understand) to get ACR & Bridge to work properly...or not. Your choice...

  • Apple Camera RAW updates without iPhoto or Aperture

I couldn't find a place where this really fits so I am placing it here.
I recently got a Nikon D90 and I take pictures in RAW format. I do all my editing in Adobe products so I have not bought Aperture or upgraded iLife. To be able to view the D90's files in CoverFlow and QuickLook requires the camera raw 2.3 update. However, you cannot install the update without Aperture 2 or the last year's iPhoto. This wouldn't be much of an issue since I don't generally sort my images in the finder, but every time I opened a folder with any raw files in it I would get frequent quick look errors popping up and the Finder would crash.
I fixed it by downloading the Aperture 2 trial so it would allow me to install the update...but it's ridiculous that I should have to have jumped through hoops to get the update installed.
Apple: Remove the iPhoto/Aperture requirement on RAW updates!

Well, my updates install without a problem.
"Camera RAW update" comes from Adobe and has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto or Aperture.

Apples, "Camera RAW Compatibility update" should install without a problem.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/digitalcameraraw compatibilityupdate25.html
The only time when I had a message "... not required..." was when I attempted to install the update while it was already installed.
Two things to consider would be; one, that the Apple's update doesn't work 100%.
It claims to provide RAW compatibility for Canon 50D, and yet the sRAW 1 and 2 don't show up in quickview or as icon preview (the full size RAWs do) - so maybe there's a similar issue with your camera.
Second, (if indeed iPhoto is needed to be installed - which I doubt, as I don't have it), extract iPhoto from your Leopard disc, install it, install the Compatibility update and then trash iPhoto.

This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:
    Fujifilm FinePix X100
    Nikon D5100
    Olympus E-PL2
    Olympus XZ-1

On my daughters Intel iMac, it shows up in Software Update and it installs perfectly well from the stand-alone installer.
I waited and waited for support for my Olympus E-620, Bah!

  • Installed digital camera raw update 3.8, but Aperture doesn't recognize Oly E-P3 raw files

I was excited to see that the digital camera raw compatibility update 3.8 purported to provide support for Olympus E-P3 raw files. I installed it from Software Update, and Aperture 3.1.3 (OSX 10.6.8) still showed the raw files as "unsupported". I restarted my Mac, got the same result. I downloaded and installed the standalone update, and again got the same result. Has anyone else had success with the update?

I found a solution. My E–P3 raw files still showed up as “unsupported” after reinstalling the update from the standalone updater. I discovered that selecting one of the “unsupported” raw files and having Aperture reprocess it (even though it had never been processed at all) made the file recognizable by Aperture and allowed me to make adjustments to it. I then reprocessed all of my E–P3 raw files and the only problem I have noted is that the vertical files were not auto rotated.
In reprocessing the raw files, I selected "only photos without adjustments" and "reprocess existing images". I hope this helps anyone who experienced this problem.

There will be no further camera support updates for Lightroom 4 beyond what is already listed in this table.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Only current versions of Lightroom (currently Lightroom 5.3) will have further camera support added.
If you need to work with Raw files from new cameras you'll either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or join the Photoshop Photography Program (to get PC CC + LR5 + extras) or convert to DNG using Adobe's free DNG converter.

I'm just a little disappointed because my 13mp 5D mark ONE blows the 18mp 7D away on IQ. I guess they just crammed too many pixels on too small a sensor. It's not terrible, but some images look a little mottled at 100%. I wish I'd flipped the extra money for a 5D Mark TWO.
Sorry for the OT comment, TD.

Just to add some fire. I compared some of my D90 (12MP) with some 7D files I have and... mine are as good, have less chroma noise and Aperture is faster with it (since the files are smaller). I do think Canon did put to many pixels on the sensor given its size. Nikon as a better quality per pixel (for now, Canon will probably correct this for its next line). That's not the first time I read this kind of comment about the 7D. I don't know how the 50D compares.

I do like the way jpegs look on the D90, especially to Chromatic Aberration, it almost make me want to keep shooting with jpegs, but really it's best to just do some post processing on the raw files, besides I do a lot of HDR's and Panoramic, Noise Ninja stuff and it's best to work with the raw files. I am kind of new to this post adjustments in Aperture. I really enjoy Aperture and have a PC friend that is very starting to really like what Aperture does..
    Thanks

"But in all fairness, it is kind of a nightmare for Apple to keep up with the many cameras it probably has to keep up with. My guess is that Olympus is less likely to be used by pros and since Aperture is pro software, Olympus and Argus, etc. take longer to add in."
    Two comments:
Yes it is kind of a nightmare, but E3 support came from Adobe 3 months before support came from Apple. What makes it less of a nightmare for Adobe?
The camera choices continue to be idiosyncratic. Hardly professional-but that criticism can also be leveled at Adobe somewhat as well. If Aperture were made for professional by professionals there would far more communication. This is where the Lightroom beta 2 model truly shines.

    Adds support for:

    Olympus OM-D E-M1
    Sony Alpha 7

And yes, we know already that Apple are late and you're moving to Lightroom and we know already that they still haven't added support for your camera and all the usual stuff.

A warning to Sony RX100 users, this update breaks the lens distortion correction. Don't install unless you love lots of barrel distortion in your images.
