New Camera Raw Update for iPhoto 11 and Aperture 3

This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:
Fujifilm FinePix X100
Nikon D5100
Olympus E-PL2
Olympus XZ-1
Samsung GX-1S
For more information on supported RAW formats, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825

This appears to be Intel ONLY. Neither of my G5s can install the update, nor does it show up in Software Update on those machines.
On my daughters Intel iMac, it shows up in Software Update and it installs perfectly well from the stand-alone installer.
I waited and waited for support for my Olympus E-620, Bah!

  • Apple Camera RAW updates without iPhoto or Aperture

I couldn't find a place where this really fits so I am placing it here.
I recently got a Nikon D90 and I take pictures in RAW format. I do all my editing in Adobe products so I have not bought Aperture or upgraded iLife. To be able to view the D90's files in CoverFlow and QuickLook requires the camera raw 2.3 update. However, you cannot install the update without Aperture 2 or the last year's iPhoto. This wouldn't be much of an issue since I don't generally sort my images in the finder, but every time I opened a folder with any raw files in it I would get frequent quick look errors popping up and the Finder would crash.
I fixed it by downloading the Aperture 2 trial so it would allow me to install the update...but it's ridiculous that I should have to have jumped through hoops to get the update installed.
Apple: Remove the iPhoto/Aperture requirement on RAW updates!

Well, my updates install without a problem.
"Camera RAW update" comes from Adobe and has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto or Aperture.

    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4364
Apples, "Camera RAW Compatibility update" should install without a problem.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/digitalcameraraw compatibilityupdate25.html
The only time when I had a message "... not required..." was when I attempted to install the update while it was already installed.
Two things to consider would be; one, that the Apple's update doesn't work 100%.
It claims to provide RAW compatibility for Canon 50D, and yet the sRAW 1 and 2 don't show up in quickview or as icon preview (the full size RAWs do) - so maybe there's a similar issue with your camera.
Second, (if indeed iPhoto is needed to be installed - which I doubt, as I don't have it), extract iPhoto from your Leopard disc, install it, install the Compatibility update and then trash iPhoto.

  • New Camera Raw Update doesn't support Aperture 2.1.4?

I just did an OS update for Camera Raw and am now able to read my Canon 550D/T2i RAW files using Preview. However, in my Aperture 2.1.4, I still get "Unsupported Image Format". Does the update not support Aperture 2.1.4 ? I thought Aperture's ability to read RAW files is tied to the OS's ability.

    RAW support page is here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    Note:
    EOS Rebel T2i EF-S / 550D / Kiss X4**
Indicates it requires Aperture 3 or later.

  • OM-D EM-1 Raw Compatibility for iPhoto and Aperture - sooner rather than later please!

Dear Aperture (and iPhoto) development team,
Please add Raw Compatibility for OM-D EM-1 (Olympus) sooner rather than later....  I am a religious user of Apple software please do not give me a reason to have to learn a new application.
    Thank you,
    elleek

Same problem with the pink/purple images from the E-M1. This happens with iPhoto, Aperture, and Preview. At first the files look normal but after the few seconds it takes for the system to process the RAWs they morph to purple. I know that the files are OK because they open just fine in Olympus Viewer3.
If you try exporting the files in any format (jpeg. tiff, png) they're pink as well.
I've posted things in a few other places with no repsonse. I'm actually glad to find this thread. I think I'll post a new thread with this as it's topic.

I'm just a little disappointed because my 13mp 5D mark ONE blows the 18mp 7D away on IQ. I guess they just crammed too many pixels on too small a sensor. It's not terrible, but some images look a little mottled at 100%. I wish I'd flipped the extra money for a 5D Mark TWO.
Sorry for the OT comment, TD.

Just to add some fire. I compared some of my D90 (12MP) with some 7D files I have and... mine are as good, have less chroma noise and Aperture is faster with it (since the files are smaller). I do think Canon did put to many pixels on the sensor given its size. Nikon as a better quality per pixel (for now, Canon will probably correct this for its next line). That's not the first time I read this kind of comment about the 7D. I don't know how the 50D compares.

  • Camera Raw update for CS5 Extended

I am looking for a Camera Raw update for CS5 Extended. I currently have CR 6.7.0.339.  IS there something newer for me to use with CS5 Extended, Ver. 12.1x64?

Camera Raw 6.7 is the latest version that's compatible with Photoshop CS5. There's nothing newer for CS5.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
If you need Camera Raw 7+ for your camera, you'll have to upgrade to Photoshop CS6.
    Which camera do you have?
Supported cameras and minimum Camera Raw version required are listed here:

  • Camera Raw update for Canon 5D Mark III

Where is the camera raw update for the new Canon 5D Mark III?

It doesn't appear that it is available yet.  You will want to utilize Canon's software for now.  I would recommend continuing to review http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html as it has a list of all supported and soon to be supported cameras with Camera RAW.

  • What is the latest camera raw update for CS5?

I'd like to know the latest camera raw update for CS5 to support Sony a6000 raw files. I'd also need to know how to update the plugin.

The last version of Camera Raw that you can use with Photoshop CS5 is Camera Raw 6.7. To have support for your camera you would need Camera Raw 8.4 or newer. You have a few choices:
    1. Use DNG converter 8.4 or newer to create DNG copies of your raw files and edit those in Photoshop CS5.
    2. Subscribe to the creative cloud photography plan and to get the latest Photoshop and Lightroom.
    3. Add Lightroom to your workflow by purchasing a standalone license for Lightroom 5.

    You don't.
The D7100 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.4
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Camera Raw 7.4 will only work in CS6 and above.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
You either upgrade to CS6 or join the Cloud and get CC.
Or convert to DNG and edit the DNGs in CS5

  • Did an update for iphoto and now it won't open

I just did a recent update for iphoto and now it just freezes and won't open.

As a test  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Is there a CS5 camera raw update for the Nikon D600?

is there a CS5 camera raw update for the Nikon D600

Not as yet. ACR 7.2 does have preliminary support for D600. Output may change in final release of D600 support in upcoming ACR 7.3.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/10/camera-raw-7-2now-available.html
ACR 7.3 will have complete support for D600.
But, if you're on CS5, I'm sorry to break it you cannot upgrade to ACR 7.x...
You may want to consider upgrading to CS6 or Lightroom 4 (cheaper alternative) to get ACR 7.x support.
Or, use the DNG converter, make TIFFs and open them with PS.

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?
