New Camera so why won't LR import?

I've had LR 4 and use it with my Nikon D90. I just upgraded to a Nikon D7100 but LR only imported a few. Do I need to upgrade my LR?

The D7100 was first supported in Lightroom 4.4

In Lightroom 4 click Help > Updates and make sure you're running at least 4.4.

  • FAQ: Will Lightroom work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

    What is a raw file?
A raw file is the unprocessed data that was captured by your camera sensor when you took your picture. The only settings on your camera that apply to this file are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. This means that any effects you may have applied to the file, such as white balance or black and white, may not appear in Lightroom. Your camera will create a JPEG copy of your raw file with all current settings applied and save that within the raw file for use as a thumbnail by most applications. When you first view a raw file in Lightroom, you will see this thumbnail, then Lightroom will read the raw data and create its own thumbnail, which may have a different appearance.
How does Lightroom work with raw camera files?
Lightroom interprets the raw data and makes image information out of it. But every camera has a unique sensor and thus has a unique form of raw file. Even though camera manufactures may use the same file extension each time (e.g. Nikon raw files are always .NEF), each camera model has a different way of storing information. Because of this, we must continually update Lightroom for new cameras. As we add new cameras to the list (over 300 now) we update our published list of supported cameras.
Will the raw files from my camera work with Lightroom?
To determine whether your camera is supported by Lightroom, check this list:
    Supported cameras
Go to Help > Updates to install the latest release. You can also manually download and install Lightroom updates:
    Macintosh
    Windows
What if I own a previous version of Lightroom?
Supposing you have a camera that came out after the release of a newer version of Lightroom, so that your version of Elements is no longer recieving updates, you have two basic options:
Purchase the latest version of Lightroom that supports your camera.
Use the latest version of the free DNG Converter (for Macintosh or Windows)
You can convert your files to the universaly compatible DNG format (the files will work with any version of the Lightroom). See In depth : Digital Negative (DNG) for more information.

Will Lightroom help me automatically compensate for the image distortion caused by my camera lens?
The Develop module of Lightroom includes Lens Correction which can read what lens was used from the metadata. With this information it can pick a profile that will reduce distortion caused by the curvature of the lens. For a list of which lenses are supported by which camera bodies, see this list:
    Lens profile support | Lightroom 4, 3
If your lens is not currently supported, you have a few options:
    Apply the lens correction manually
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (Download: Mac, Win) to see if someone else has created a profile your camera and lens
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator (Download: Mac, Win) to make your own profile for your camera and lens.

  • Why won't FCPX import .mts files?

I love shooting 1920x1080/50p, but FCPX will not recognise the files. Both Panasonic and Sony use this framerate now butto get work into FCPX I have to shoot at 50i. I know I can convert using clipwire and the like, but why should I have to go to that trouble?

    Hi Tom
used two different formatted SD cards shot 2 clips on 50p and on second formatted card two clips on 50i. FCPX could not import the 50p from the camera, it just would not launch it. It would load the 50i with no problem see screen grab - both are .mts files.
When I downloaded both sets of clips to the hard drive and then pressed import FCPX would not rimport either, se screen shot.
Most new sub £3000 cameras are now being launched with this AVCHD recording setting as it's top setting ie 1920x1080/50P why can't I import it into FCPX I really need this facility or use a different software.

  • I have material shot on a new camera in 16x9.  When I import it into FCPX the media is "squished" into 4x3.  How can I get it to look right?

    I have material shot on a new camera.  It's a Panasonic AG-HPX250EJ.
According to the clip properties of the media on the camera the footage was shot 16x9 at a frame rate of 50i
    The format is DV25_420
The problem is that when I connect the camera to the iMac via a USB cable and attempt to import the media into FCPX (I'm running version 10.0.1) it displays as 4x3.
    What am I doing wrong?
Needless to say I have a deadline looming for the edit and I'm rather tearing my hair out.

If problem persists after importing via FW
Select the clips in the event browser and in the inspector select INFO.
Ensure that the View bottom Left is set to SETTINGS.
You should be able to change the way FCPX interprets the clips via Anamorphic Override.

  • Why won't MacBook import photos after connecting to camera?

Ever since I loaded Snow Leopard on MacBook, IPhoto does not work the way it did.  The camera connects with mac but eventhought it is trying
to import pictures, it never succeeds.

Reinstalling is a good idea.  I suggest you use Disk Utiity to repair permissions both before AND after the reinstall.  Then test again.
If your problem remains, verify that you are following all intructions from here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84bc2.html
If the only camera you can see in the Choices Bar located at lower left of the "Import from Camera" window  is iSight, i.e., if your camcorder is not one of the available choices,
check your connections or try a different USB cable.

  • Edited custom buttons - why won't C5 import the new ones?

    Hi
I have successfully created new next, home and back buttons and did the up, over and down states.
Captivate 5 picked them up and all seemed fine. I looked again and saw the back seemed to get bigger when it was 'over' the home moved to the left.
I created new buttons as png, making sure they were absolutely the same size in up down and over, and moved them into the buttons folder in Gallery, as before.
I did click on the folder to pick up the new buttons. And I deleted the old buttons before moving new into the 'buttons' folder.
    I even cleared cache.
But Captivate still does the same!
    Still next gets bigger etc.
I have redone twice now - what can I do?
Thanks for any light on this!

    Hi there
My own guess is that Captivate 5 is working pretty much as 4 and earlier did, even though it's a totally new beast.
I'd be willing to bet a dollar against a donut that if you created a button in a totally new project and used those images, things would work just dandy. Captivate generally caches things like that inside the project and that's why you aren't seeing them update.
Probably the only way you will coax them to work in your existing project will be to use a slight variation of file names for the images. Because they will be different file names, Captivate will think they are entirely different images.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why won't iPhoto import D700 RAW images?

Yesterday I tried to import 809 RAW (NEF) images from my Nikon D700 camera into the iPhoto program on a friend's iMac. It imported one image, but refused to import the remaining 808! I don't understand why it didn't accept the whole batch.
The iMac in question is a 20" Intel unit purchased new in 2006. The OS system has been upgraded to Leopard (version 10.5.8) and iPhoto to version 8.1.2. There's still plenty of available space (145 GB) on the hard drive.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to remedy it?
    Bob

    Larry,
    Thanks for the reply.
I can confirm that D700 RAW images were downloadable to earlier versions of iPhoto than iPhoto '11.
Until January 2012 I had a 20" Intel iMac purchsed in 2007 that was very similar to that of my friend. It also had Leopard  and iPhoto '09, and I was able to download D700 RAW images to it. In fact, one of the main reasons I upgraded that iMac from Tiger and iPhoto '06 to Leopard and iPhoto '09 was so that I could download D700 RAW images.
I now have a new 27" iMac with Lion and iPhoto '11 and have no problems downloading D700 RAW images.
I remain puzzled why the D700 RAW files--with the exception of one--wouldn't download to my friend's  iMac.

  • Why won't iTunes import my mp3s?

I have some mp3s that itunes (on OSX) simply won't import. I am starting with a brand new library, right click on the files, open with iTunes, iTunes opens and nothing else happens. I don't get any errors. It's frustrating. Any idea what the deal is? If the mp3s are incompatible or ID3s are problematic, any tools I can use to fix them? They seem to play fine in other software.
Edit: The music adds to my library effortlessly when I drop it into the iTunes/iTunes Media folder. But why should it matter where it is (currently tryign to add via an attached drive which works fine for most mp3s, but not all)?
    Thanks.

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers. If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find a number of repair tools. Here is one I've seen mentioned:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
I haven't tried ot myself, so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) it works, but it would probably be worth a try.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why won't LR5 import my Nikon D800 RAW images? It did till yesterday.

I have been using Lightroom since the beginning and without trouble. I have been importing thousands of RAW images from my Nikon D200 without problems till yesterday, when the usual import ended poorly at the beginning:
I tried again, then restarted Lightroom, then restarted the computer, then got the same result each time. Next I tried importing using the camera USB cable and got the same message. I tried a different memory card next, with the same result. Then I tried Nikon's Capture software which imported the files with no problem, as did iPhoto.
Then I changed permissions to "everyone" for Lightroom, signed off and then onto a testing account created for the purpose. Lightroom created a library, and imported the same files through the card reader without a hitch.
Obviously, there is something wrong with the Installation of Lightroom in my space that doesn't happen if I just change the user and nothing else. How do I fix the way Lightroom interacts with my user space?

The LR Preferences are under your user folder so creating a new user would make a default preferences file for that user.
Try removing or at least moving or renaming your LR preferences file for the user with the problem, and let LR create a new one for your normal user:
    C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs
Make sure you know where your catalog is since the last location won’t be remembered after you create a new preferences file.

  • Why won't iPhoto import videos from iPhone 6 Plus?

iPhoto on iMac will not import the videos from my iPhone 6Plus.  It says there is an error, and it doesn't recognize the format.  That makes no sense.  Both are brand new apple products.  Now all my videos on my iPhone are "white" pictures.  On the computer there is a standard icon for each video that won't open.  What is happening?  Have I lost these videos (22 of them).  How could this be?

  • HT4623 My iPad is version 5.1.1 and says it's up to date. Yet some apps need a newer iOS. Why won't it get a newer iOS?

My iPad won't update to a newer version of iOS? What am I overlooking or is this product no longer upgradable?

If it's the first gen iPad (i.e. the one without cameras) then iOS 5.1.1 is the highest version of iOS that it supports - mine got noticeably slower with iOS 5, I doubt that it could cope with iOS 6 or 7 (it has a slow processor and only have the RAM of the iPad 2, and the 3rd gen onwards have double again).
Some developers allow you to download previous compatible versions of their apps. If an app is free then you coul try downloading the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it.
