NEW * Cannot upload folder to FTP site

Hi, I am a new user to Mac - switched from PC and I have several questions, my first is trying to upload files to an FTP site. It states the FTP can not be modified - however, using windows no problem. Can anyone help on this? TIA -

This is not an issue with Mac/PC compatibility.
FTP access from the Finder is read-only. You'll need a dedicated FTP client app such as Cyberduck (free), Transmit, Fetch or Filezilla (Free)

  • Cannot upload photos to internet sites with the new Photo app (10.10.3 Update)

I'm not a huge fan of the redesigned Photo app that came with the 10.10.3 update. So, I can no longer upload photos from my computer to websites with this app. It's like the pictures don't exist when the window pops up for what files you would like to select. I have had to work around by dragging the photos out of the app and to my desktop, then upload them via the pop up window from there; that works just fine. Now I have duplicates all over my desktop cause I need them so frequently. All my photos and albums do seem to be in the app correctly, I just can't access them from other programs and the Internet. I run the latest of Firefox. IPhoto is still showing on my dock too, does it need to be there now that it has been replaced with the Photo app? I havent tried opening it, but I do know I cannot select any images from the old IPhoto when trying to upload to the Internet, the app doesn't exist in that situation. Even beyond upload to third party sites on the Internet, I had the same issue when I attempted to put my logo in to Pages to create a binder cover last night. I had to go do my work around again and drag my logo out of the program to the desktop. I have restarted the computer several times and have shut down nightly since the new update. What is wrong with this app?

    Seems like a simple question
    How exactly are you uploading?
And after you stated that you did not understand this simple question you answered it
And of course until you answered no one had any idea how you were doing it - there are many ways including many incorrect ways so in order to help we have to understand what you are doing - many times the answer is as simple and providing the correct method to replace the incorrect method that one is using
And iphoto of course still exists and is usable on you system - Photos was added - iPhoto was not removed with the upgrade to 10.103
You are not "forced to use Photos - in fact many people are not - I am not yet sure if I will or not
And the discussion on using the media browser is not at all irreverent - in fact  it still works virtually exactly the same as with iPhoto - which is why I referenced it of course
And you spent so much time on weird and incorrect dribble that you failed to answer another critical question
what happens that you can not upload them?
WE can not see you and can not help unless you actually provide details and all requested information - you stream of incorrect statements and editorials not only do not help us help you, they create a major barrier to helping you

  • Create folder in FTP site

    Hello,
I have an FTP site that is used in conjunction with one of my processes. I would like to be able to check if a particular folder already exists in the FTP site, and if it doesn't create one. I have been able to do this within the regular file system (using the file utilities components Is Directory and Make Directory), but am having trouble setting this up in an FTP site. I have been trying to use those same components used for the file utilities, but can't seem to make it happen. Is it possible, and how should I go about doing this? Thank you ahead of time for any assistance.

    Kendy,
Yes I am able to perform this task in the file system without any problems (creating network folders on shared network drives). I would like to be able to do the same with an FTP server. Aside from using an FTP server (uploading and downloading), I guess I'm lacking knowledge of how the back end of an FTP server works (I haven't had much luck in my google searches on the topic either). Should their be an accompanying file system location for an FTP site, or is FTP something that is set up on its own, seperate from a file system? If there is an accompanying file system location for an FTP server, then I can use the File Utility components to search for the folder, and create it if it doesn't already exist. I have tried doing this with the FTP site URL but am unable to get the MakeDir to work in this regard. I have also tried using the Put component from the FTP utilities. Placing a txt file in a folder that doesn't exist on my FTP server in hopes that it would create the directory, but this does not work either. I can Put the file in folders that already exist on the FTP site, but cannot automatically add these folders through a workflow.

  • Cannot upload file through FTPS

    Hello,
I am writing a FTPS Client (Explicit SSL) in java. For testing the same I am using the JScape FTP Server (Free Version). Altough have managed to login to the server, but cannot upload a file. Below is a brief description of the what's happeng in the code.
    1. Created a Socket
controlSocket = new Socket(host, port);2. Issued AUTH TLS writer.write("AUTH TLS");3. Created controlSocket using SSLSocketFactory. Trusted all server SSL certificates.
    sslSocketFactory = sslContext.getSocketFactory();
socket = sslSocketFactory.createSocket(socket, host, port, true);4. Issued the USER and PASS commands to login (Received success response)
    5. Issued TYPE A (Received success response)
    6. Issued PBSZ 0 and PROT P (Received success response)
    7. Issued PASV (Received success response)
    8. Retrieving the 'hostName' and the 'portNumber' from the reply for PASV
    9. Created dataSocket
dataSocket = new Socket(hostName, portNumber);10. After the dataSocket creation, I am trying to retrieve the response from server when it is getting hanged.
I don't have a clue why this is happening. Could someone help me with this.
N.B. FileZilla Client however connects to the server and uploads data without any error.
    Edited by: saturn_cemk on Nov 13, 2009 1:22 AM

I have also tried this... but it still hangs.
dataSocket = sslSocketFactory.createSocket(remoteHost, remotePort);remoteHost and remotePort are the ones derived from the response for PASV.
Do I need to do AUTH TLS again before creating the dataSocket ?? Am totally lost at this point.

    Hi guys,
Pretty much a novice, but looking for an app that will allow me to "watch" a folder and then sync (preferably close to real-time) that folder to a back up location of my choice (including an FTP site).
    What is available?
    Thanks

  • TS2167 how do i upload to another ftp site

my iweb site on is down and I've been told that I have to upload my site to another sever or host... how do I do that?

In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe. The poster 'Old Toad' has provided a workaround, described at http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No.26.html.

  • I cannot upload to our FTP server.

After 10-20mins of loading it will state that I have incorrect username/password.
I asked our IT department to run a check on our server regarding login details, report say they dont see any problem.
Since I started using Muse CC 2014, this problem with uploading to FTP Server started.
Is this a problem from Adobe Muse CC 2014?
    TIA.

Please download the file http://muse.adobe.com/assets/ftp2014fix.zip, unzip it, and save the contained file ftpPrefs.xml to the following location:
On Windows: %appdata%\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Muse CC\2014.0 (You can type this in the Path bar at the top of the Windows Explorer window.)
On Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Muse CC/2014.0 (You can type this in the Go To Folder dialog using Shift+Command+G. The leading tilde "~" is required.)
Muse uses FTP Extended Passive Mode (EPSV). It's the preferred FTP mode for optimal performance, but we're finding some hosting providers have FTP servers configured such that EPSV is not supported or EPSV only works if you're inside the same firewall as the FTP server. The ftpPrefs.xml file above, turns off EPSV mode. So if that is the problem in this case, putting that file in place should enable you to successfully login and upload without errors.

  • Cannot upload file to FTP

I'm trying to upload a file via FTP (using Transmit) and keep receiving a message "make sure you have permission to modify". I have read  and write permission. I'm using my macbook and its a file I created. What do I need to adjust on my settings? I also tried using another outside service providing FTP and received a similar message so I'm sure its something with the macbook settings.

use a reliable FTP client, such as Filezilla (free app) or likewise.

  • FireFTP seems corrupted. I can't go to FTP sites and it opens itself in a second tab whenever I open Firefox

When I open Firefox, a second tab opens at the same time: chrome://firefrp/content/fireftp.xul. When I open FireFTP I cannot log onto an FTP site. I can't add an account or access an account

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling FireFTP?
In order to uninstall an extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.
You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles:

  • Won't go to ftp site

I cannot get onto an ftp site. When I type in Safari it says: You don’t have permission to view “Macintosh HD”.
I set file sharing in Preferences but still no luck. Please advise.

I figured it out by using the Go in Finder and Connect to Server.... can you believe I called Apple tech support and they did not even know how to do it.

  • I cannot update a file by downloading revised version from my ftp site.

I write Access database programs for a couple of non-profit groups.  When I make a change, I upload the changed program to an ftp site, alert them to download again, and off they go with the new version.  Been doing this for several years.  Fast
forward to today: husband just bought new Win 8.1 computer.  I installed the Access 2010 Runtime, then downloaded the database.  It worked.  I then made a couple of changes to the program on my development computer necessitated by the wide screen
display on the new computer, uploaded the changed program to the ftp site, proceeded to download the update to the win 8 computer and it won't update to the new version until and unless I reboot.  What am I doing wrong?  My users should not have
to close everything and reboot before updating the program--I will surely soon have several using Win 8.

I have updated the file in question on my development computer.  I then saved it to a network drive.  I then uploaded it to the ftp.  Next, I went back to the Win 8.1 machine.  I opened the ftp and copied the file.  I then pasted
it to the desktop.  I then opened the file and verified that it was not updated.  I then accessed the network drive and copied the file, then pasted on the desktop.  Voila!  It was updated.  Conclusion: Cannot copy and paste from ftp
(unless it had never been present) but can update from other source.
On the Win 8.1:  Next, I reopened the ftp, copied the file.  Returned to the desktop (which now contained the identical updated version copied from network drive).  Pasted.  Opened the file.  Alas, it had reverted to the version
prior to copying from the network file.  I next deleted the file, then downloaded from ftp again.  The previous version reappeared! Conclusion:  Anytime an update is attempted from ftp, the version reverts to something it finds in a cache somewhere.
I did try rebooting at this point, but the previous version was still there.
After a reboot of the Win 8.1 machine, I could copy and paste successfully from ftp to desktop.
You asked about the former system edition:  Windows 7 on my development computer.   I don't have an installation log, but I am not sure exactly to what you refer.  Office 2010 Professional is the source software; MS Access 2010 Runtime is
the program used on the 8.1 computer.  Note that this all works on users using Win 7 and the same Runtime.

  • FTP Error : Windows cannot acces folder ..... Details : Element not found

    Hi All,
I'm just transferring to my new office that uses FTP as a means of storage for sensitive data. At first i can connect to ftp servers easily using windows explorer. But over time, when i'm about to connect to ftp server, the windows explorer replied
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access this folder. Details: Element not found
I can access the ftp server using IE or another web browser, even using WINSCP and other ftp file transfer software. I need to be able to connect to ftp server using windows explorer again. Can any of you help?
The ftp.exe is not blocked in firewall rules (i've checked).
    Any comments/helps are appreciated.

    Hi,
Firstly, make sure you have enable "Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" setting:
Internet options -> Advanced -> Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)
And then try use mapping network drive:
    1.Click on Computer.
2.Click on Map network drive from the menu.
3.Map Network Drive window will open. Now click on the link
Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.
4.Now simply follow the step by step wizard to add a new network location. Select
Choose a custom network location when given the choice of where to create this network connection.
5.Type your ftp address. Specify a user name and password if required.
6.Give your newly created network location.
Alternative, use the registry method that was marked as answer in the following thread to fix it:

Are you sure about your FTP credentials (FTP folder and site URL) that you are using for the upload? Are you able to see the updated files in the remote directory of the FTP server, after you finish uploading the muse file, using an external FTP client like FileZilla?
