New Canon 5D MkIII

I have just downloaded  RAW 6.7 and PS5 will now see and open my files.
BUT LR3 will not
Any suggestions or do I just have to wait and not use LR3 until a version for that arrives.
I am running these on an iMac (1 yr old) The computer also does not have a RAW  update for this camera.

Quote "Does Apple Aperture only come in one version, or are all version upgrades free, or does the very first version of Aperture support the 5D.3 perhaps because the support is built in to the OS instead of a particular product, or why is Apple’s upgrade and camera support policy preferable to Adobe’s?"
I have only used Mac's for about 2 years. I bought Aperture 3 so I presume at one point there was a 1 and 2. So far any updates have been free. Apple also alows you to put the same programme (for free) onto another machine registered to you once you have purchased it on one machine. If there are plans for Aperure 4 then I haven't read any on the rumour market.
I have had the updates for 5D3 from Apple for the OS and for Aperture separately.
I finally gave in and Purchased LR4
Today i loaded Canons EOS Utility for the camera. Then I did an expeiment. I connected Laptop and Camera using the USB. I fired off a load of shots both remotely and using the camera trigger and recorded all onto the hard drive using EOS Utility.
The I set Aperture to Tethered and shot and saved some frames.
Then I set up LR4 and set it to remote capture ..........  and nothing happens. The Remote / Tethered bar comes up, says the Camera is present - hit the trigger and .... keeps saying BUSY and will not take a picture. LR3 would not remote take pictures either if tethered to to my 1DsMkII with USB, it would only work with Firewire.

  • How can I import Canon .CR2 raw files gererated by the new Canon 5D MkIII?

Just got the new Canon 5D MkIII and none of the Adobe products can recognize the raw files (called .CR2) it generates.
I'd be happy just converting them to .DNG but converters won't recognize them either.
Anyone know a solution for me?
    Thanks.

The Release Candidate 6.7 converter does work with the 5D Mk III and as stated LR 4.1 RC also works:

I have PS elements 10 and just got a new canon 5d mkiii. I can't get my files to open in camera raw. I checked my plug in and i have version 6.5. I did the camera raw update and downloaded the dng software.I also downloaded the adobe app manager. I am not sure where to go from here. Do I have to upgrade to ps 12 or is there a way to make this work?

    Hi,
You need Camera Raw 6.7 for the 5D Mk III
If going to Help -> Updates doesn't work, try a manual update.
Win: Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Mac: Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    Good luck

  • Camera Raw Support for Canon 7D MkII

Just trying to get some idea if I should spend the $99.00 to buy Aperture from the Apple Store.  This might sound a little over the top, but the work flow I miss by not having RAW support in Lightroom is worth the expense of buying Aperture.
I do find it very disappointing that Adobe have not as yet provided support for the new Canon 7D MkII.  This will be a VERY popular camera.
More importantly I find this tardiness on Adobe's part very disappointing because they market CC buy saying "You will always have up to date software".  When you consider Apple and Google Picasa have both already supported the Canon 7D MkII.  I might add they both had support for the camera within days of it's release on 31 of Oct.
    So after my little rant.
Can anybody from Adobe advise when we will see Camera Raw support the new Canon 7DMkII?
Even if it is in Beta form I would be very happy to be a Beta tester.  I have very extensive experience in testing software and would be prepared to do structured Beta testing.  I would be very happy if someone from Adobe Labs would contact me for the purpose of Beta testing Camera Raw support for the 7D MkII.
    Kind Regards

Thanks ssprengel, you have clearly put into words what is currently reality at Adobe, and confirmed my suspicion of Aperture being a dead product.  Although Google's Picasa is not dead.
I do realize Adobe Products are very well developed and software does take time to perfect before it gets released.  I have been in the software development game for 35 years
But Camera RAW is an adjunct to Lightroom, Photoshop, Premier Pro etc.  As such the support for new camera models should be a relatively simple exercise and should not be held up by other R&D on the products that Camera Raw plugs into.  I believe they have in the past released updates to Camera Raw that essentially was just for new camera models.  I do realize I could be wrong on this point, but I fail to see why they can't achieve this outcome.
Also, as I said Adobe Market Creative Cloud membership saying you will always be up to date. Or words to that effect.
To have an Adobe support person get upset because he has a large number of people pestering Adobe, and not him personally, trying to get ans answer as to the timing of the release of support for a new camera model, quite frankly is totally unacceptable.  Not acceptable to the customers and not acceptable to the poor support person who has to handle disgruntled customers due to poor planning on Adobe's part.
In my original post I made a very serious offer to do Beta Testing on support for the Canon 7DMkII Raw files.  But when i last checked with Adobe Labs the current Beta does not include support for this camera.
There maybe extenuating circumstances around the timely supply of this support.  Like when did Canon provide the Specs for the 7D MkII and are those specs so different from other currently supported models.   Even some feedback as to what the problem is, would help us understand.
I hope I have expressed my thoughts objectively and hope this discussion stream will get to management at Adobe.  In fact I am very inclined to ensure it does get to senior management.  I don't want to start writing a personal letter to the Chairman of Adobe's Board, but sometimes things do need a shake up.

  • Need to see raw thumbnails for Canon 5D MkIII

Using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - I want to stay with this version of the OS!!
All cameras up until the new Canon 5D MkIII were showing thumbnails images of RAW photos in the FINDER.
Now there is generic icon and no thumbnail. I need to use the finder for sorting and previewing RAW images.
Is this a ploy to force upgrading to the buggy later version of the OS?
I like 10.6.8 better and want it to work as advertised for more that 24 months. How hard can it be to support RAW images when new cameras are released?
Is there another path (iPhoto?) that runs on Sonw Leopard and supports RAW from recent cameras?
    Thanks,

I appreciate replys but please carefully read the original posting.
I upgraded to a new camera - Canon 5D MKIII - which is when I lost thumbnails in the FINDER.
I upgraded to Mt. Lion and don't like it. Like I said, I want to find a solution using Snow Leopard. the Mac is a personal computer and that's how I want to use it.
I have Photoshop CS6 which is how I have to review my images now. This is much slower than FINDER thumbnails.
So again: is there a way to have thumbnails show in Snow Leopard/FINDER for Canon 5D MKIII raw images?

  • CANNOT OPEN RAW FILES USING NEW CANON EOS 1D MKIII WITH PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 5

Hi, I have recently taken a number of RAW shots with my new Canon EOS 1D MKIII and have found that I am unable to import them into Photoshop Elements version 5 (using Microsoft Windows). Comments generated are: "the file is a format that cannot be included in the organiser" and "cannot open because it is the wrong type of file". The RAW file extension is .CR2 and I have been able to open these type of files taken on my older, and much cheaper, Canon 350D. I have spent hours considering different options but to no effect and am completely baffled. Do the two cameras produce different types of RAW files? Notably, the files do import into the Canon software 'Digital Photo Professional' but I want to undertake the more versatile manipulation in Photoshop Elements. I have managed to become even more baffled about Digital Negative ('DNG') files and wonder if there is some kind of converter I need. Would the solution be to purchase a more advanced Photoshop package like CS2? OR .......... do I need an 'Adobe Camera RAW' update? I have struggled to find the latest version for Photoshop Elements 5 to suit my Canon EOS 1D MKIII. There appears to be a 4.3.1 update but this only applies to Version CS3. Help!

You probably haven't had anyone respond to your question because it has been asked and answered so many times. However, I will try once again.
Adobe Camera Raw must have a profile for every model of every camera for which it supports the camera's raw format. It is not a matter of just supporting a file type such as your CR2 files. ACR needs to know specifically what model you are using. This is a problem that has been created by the different camera makers. They are the ones who are creating these proprietary raw formats. No, they do not cooperate with Adobe. That is why Adobe has to wait for a camera to be available, then obtain a raw file from that camera, and then create the profile so that ACR will recognize that camera. That is also why ACR is updated about four times each year, to provide support for newly released cameras.
In an attempt to create a "common" raw file format, Adobe has developed the DNG (Digital negative) file format. Adobe is providing a free DNG converter. You always want to download and use the latest version of the DNG converter because it will be the one that supports the most cameras. The DNG converter creates a digital negative copy of your raw image. It contains all of the original raw image data. The image data is precisely the same data that was in the original raw image. The difference is that the DNG file has a "standardized" file header that stores as much of the metadata as possible about the image. Metadata is the information that records the changes that you make to your image when you edit it. Some of the image data is proprietary, and is therefore not available to Adobe. Obviously, that information simply has to be ignored by ACR. There are no XMP files associated with the DNG files. The information is stored within the DNG file itself so the XMP sidecar file is not necessary.
If you decide to go the DNG route you want to make sure you are using the latest version of the DNG converter. It will convert raw files from the largest number of cameras. Those DNG files can be opened by any version of Camera Raw from version 2.4 onward. Consequently, someone who is still using Photoshop CS still has the capability of working on their raw files even if they have the most recent up to date camera.
Photoshop Elements will utilize ACR 4.3.1 and any subsequent updates to the ACR 4.x releases. Judging from past experience, there should be another release soon. No one knows for sure. These releases are never announced ahead of time. ACR is not as robust in Photoshop Elements as it is in Photoshop CS3. It is the same plug-in, but a number of options are not available. It will support the same cameras, however.
You don't need to worry about matching the DNG converter version number to your working version of ACR. The only relationship is that matching version numbers will support the same set of cameras. But the DNG files that are created can be used in any version of ACR from 2.4 onward.
Anyone who is involved with digital photography and shooting raw has become a victim of the arrogance of the camera makers. The camera makers want to protect their proprietary format, and they want to promote the use of their software. Some of that software has to be purchased, so it is another way for them to make money. Until such time as everyone agrees on a common raw format, the photographers are the ones who are at the mercy of the camera makers. And there will be a continual ongoing updating process that we will have to wait for.

  • How do I get Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) support for my new Canon EOS 7D mkii.

I purchased the new Canon EOS 7D mkii in early November. I tried opening the raw files in both the latest Creative Cloud versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. I found that Adobe Camera Raw, both the current versions and ACR 8.7 beta/release candidate, did not support this camera. I know one exists because dpreview reviewed the pre-relase version of this camera in mid-October showing images processed with an unreleased version of ACR?
How do I get this early unreleased version of ACR for this camera?

Canon Eos 7D Mark ii was launched after we released ACR 8.7 RC. So, that’s the reason it is not included in the RC version. However, it is on our radar and hoping to add it in an upcoming update itself.
As soon as it is available, it will be updated in the below article.

  • ARC support for new cameras such as Canon D5 MkII

Is it true that raw images from cameras introduced after CS4 such as the Canon D5 MkII will only be supported with CS4 and not with ARC in CS3?
    This is hard to believe.
    Bob

    Yes
Upgrade or die.... or at least use the latest DNG converter and edit the
DNG files with what ever ACR you have.
For me I have CR4 but I convert to DNG anyway as they are smaller than
my camera raw files and there is no "side car" files needed to hold the
conversion data. This is important to me as I store my images on a
network attached drive, and I would need to move 2 files not just 1 and
if the "side car" file is lost then all the changes to the RAW file is
    lost and must be re-created.
All this and no loss of data.

  • CS4 (v11.0.2) won't recognise RAW files from my Canon 5D MKII camera

Hi Folks.  I'm running a MAC Pro (2x3 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon machine with 8GB;s of RAM (DDR2 FB-DIMM)
Up till last week, I was running this machine on Leopard, but last week, I started a new drive. Installed Snow Leopard on it and did a clean install with all my programs, but I did migrate over the Users folder. Other than that, programs have been individually reinstalled.   I've been very impressed with photoshop CS4 on snow leopard, via a Macbook pro, so I knew that this was worth pursuing for improved speed and performance.
I bought the Snoe Leopard upgrade disc from MAC and did the install.  I've been using my CS4 on the Leopard program that used to run this machine and it worked flawlessly, however now under Snow Leopard  I am getting a message that tells me that Photoshop doesn't understand the camera files now.  This didn't happen before except when the Canon 5D MKII first came out and you guys made a patch for it.   My machine is behaving like that again now, despite the fact that I'm running 11.0.2 on photoshop CS4  Do you have any suggestions anyone?...
    Aloha
    Sean
P.S.  Other than this current inconvenience, the program runs very fast now....

In Photoshop, go to the menu Photoshop>About Plug-ins>Camera Raw... What version does it say you have? You need version 5.2 or later for support for the 5D MkII.
You can download it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4680

  • Tethering Canon 5D MkIII w/10.8

I'm curious to know if anyone has managed to tether their Canon 5D MkIII to a computer running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion?  The latest version of Aperture claims to support this but I'd rather not buy the software before I know it works.  Apple also no longer offers a trial version of Aperture.  For the record, at this date no other software supports this such as EOS Utility, Lightroom, Capture One, or DSLR Assistant.

That is why I use the 5D3, it takes both CF and SD cards. When using the eyefi card I save RAW to the CF card and the lowest res jpeg to the SD (eyefi) card. With the 5D3 the RAW files can be 27-30MB in size while the jpeg are aroung 750KB. Wireless transfer of the RAW files is therefore much slower with the eyefi card.
With the eyefi card you set up which networks it will attach to. You can setup private networks, Direct mode and what to do with Public Hotspots.
I have it set to work on my home network of course and also on an ad-hoc network. I use a Macbook air and when away or on location I setup the macbook to create an ad-hoc network called "stevesmacbook" or similar and I have already set the eyefi card up to "Attach' to this network when it doesn't find my home network.I think this is using the direct mode.
You also need to specify on the eyefi card where it will save/ send the files to. I have a portable 500GB hard drive that plugs into the Macbook and on that I have a folder called "Today" and this is the folder I specify on the eyefi card. I got caught out a couple of times by creating a new folder on the HDD to save the current photos to and set this folder up as the monitored folder for aperture etc and then couldn't work out why the photos were not showing until I remembered that the eyefi card was sending them to a different folder!
I use Aperture Hot Folder to also monitor that folder and when I run Aperture I set up a new project that uses the same folder.
As I shoot I get a full RAW file saved to the CF card and the S3 jpeg to the SD eyefi card that then automatically sends it wirelessly to the "Today" folder on the HDD connected to the Macbook Air. Aperture Hot Folder sees that a new photo has appeared and shows it in Aperture. The first file when you start up, or after you have had a break for a while, is slow to appear but then the subsequent photos pop up pretty quickly. I guess you would have to test for yourself to see if it is fast enough for your requirements. It probably would be OK for my school shoots but, they are usually pretty hectic so I just didn't want to add the extra "thing" to think about at this stage. When shooting portraits in my "Studio"  ( some may call it a double garage) I use the eyefi system all the time - With the macbook air connected to an appleTV showing the photos on a 55inch LCD TV!
Once setup, and it isn't as complicated as it probably sounds, it all works automatically and easily.
As I shoot I watch the photos ( or an assistant does for schools) and picks the "Keepers" by giving them a 1 star rating in Aperture and we also put the persons name in the Title field of the metadata for the choosen photos.
When the shoot is finished I open aperture and look at the jpeg files and filter to only show the "Keepers" I then plug the CF card into a card reader on the mac and import them using the "Matching RAW" option and the "current filter" option. Aperture then imports only the RAW files that match the Keeper photos and the RAW files have the metadata matched. I then select to view the Raw files and away I can go with post and printing.
It all sounds complicated but isn't really. (Thinking of maybe doing a youtube video to show the setting up and use - which would be easier to follow).
BTW - As I said before I have had no trouble shooting tethered into Aperture with the 5D3 before or after Mountain Lion and the issue with Lightroom was that Adobe hadn't updated to include tethered shooting for the 5D3 until they released 4.2. Now they have I can shoot tethered direct to Lightroom. It hasn't been a Mountain Lion issue for me at all.
    Hope this helps

  • Getting 15" MBP to do some HD video editing - Canon 5D mkii.  Premier Elements or Final Cut?

With a new 15" MacBook Pro, what would be the suggestion for video editing software - will be doing HD with the Canon 5D mkii.  I am doing ostly some family stuff and a few things for work - training pieces, nothing longer than about 15 minutes in time.  I don't need the Pro stuff as a lot of it will go unused due to lack of skill and need.  I have iMovie 8 and I need more than that.  Final Cut Express is discontinued, so I am looking at Adobe Premier Elements 10 as a possibility.  It is not a matter of money, but I want like a middle of the road software, with a good laptop (need the portability). Also, shoudl I ge the top of the line upgraded 15" MBP or spring for the Retina display with the SSD option???

I have both Adobe's Premier Pro CS6 and Final Cut Pro X installed on both my Mac Pro 8-core and a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display (2.7 GHz, 768 GB flash storage, and 16 GB of RAM).  I am not a professional editor, but I am serious about editing video as a hobby.  On both my Mac Pro and on my MBPR, Final Cut Pro X is very very stable, and performs exceptionally well.  Since it's introduction about 18 months ago Apple has offered a number of free updates to FCP X which have really improved its functionality and stability.  FCP X has a unique trackless paradigm for video editing (the magnietic timeline) which I really like and find helpful in speeding up the editing workflow.  However, FCP X (like all video editing programs) does have a learning curve and I recommend that you purchase  and watch the training tutorials from Ripple Training or from other good sources such as lynda.com.  It can be a frustrating and unprofitable experience to simply jump into FCP X and try to begin editing your Canon 5D Mark II footage without first taking the time to learn the fundamentals of the program.
These comments are also true for Adobe's Premier Elements (a simpler version of Adobe's Premier Pro editing package).   I have not yet used Premiere Pro CS6 to any significant extent on my MBPR but I have edited several projects (indcluding ones using 5D Mark II footage) on my Mac Pro using PP CS5 and CS5.5.  I have never had a problem with the stability of the program.  However, a number of Mac users are reporting problems using PP CS6 on the Adobe PP Forum.
As for advice on whether to purchase the top of the line upgrade 15 in. MBP or the MBPR, I would say that is a matter of personal choice. The high resolution display of the MBPR makes for a great editing experience since you can see a full 1080p video in FCP X's output window without any scaling at all.   The flash storage of the MBPR means that you will be able to play numerous streams of 1080p video simultaneously without the need for purchasing external Raid arrays.  I purchased my MBPR for video editing purposes and I certianly have no regrets about the choice.
One final comment.  Most of the time my MBPR runs quietly and reasonably cool (CPU temps of 45-75 C.).  However, when you render a movie in FCP X, be prepared to hear the fan speeds go to their maximum speed (which is dfinitely audible but not unpleasant)  and for the cpu temperature to rise as high as 100 C. or slightly higher.  I have never had the MBPR do a thermal shutdown while rendering video, but it does get hot, and a laptop cooler support for the MBPR is a necessity when using it for high intensity cpu tasks like video editing.

  • New Canon T2i images import but do not show up in library

I imported the first images from a new Canon T2i into iPhoto. The images show up in the "Last Import" folder but when I click on the "Photos" folder in the library they are not there. If I import more pictures from another source the images are no longer in the Last Import folder and I can't find them anywhere.  I tried importing a random image and it shows up in both the Last Import folder and the Photos folder. I even went and re-imported them from a back up folder on my hard drive and the same thing happens.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Jeff

If it's in the Last ImPort then it's in the Library somewhere.  Usually this is caused by the dates on the camera being off or a different Sort (View Menu) being chosen.
In Last Import right click on a photo and choose 'Show Event'...

You didn't state how it's connected to each computer, if it's connected through your router then it should work. If it doesn't then you need to contact Canon and ask for assistance.

Hi,  I would like to add a new Canon camera profile to the RAW interface.
I have recently installed the new camera profile 'Studio Portrait' which i download from here:
    http://www.canon.co.jp/imaging/picturestyle/file/studio-portrait.html
When I open up a RAW files in Camera RAW, go to 'Camera Calibration', click on the drop down list called
'Camera Profile'  I only see  'Adobe Standard, Faithful etc etc'.
My questions are, can i add the same camera profile i put in my camera, into a folder with in photoshop?
Or is photoshop reading the raw file and only seeing the default camera profiles?
If I could see the new camera profile listed it would help with work flow.

Please help, ive not had a good time waiting on the phone and trying to explain this to a live chat, hours have been wasted. Once i know the answer I can get back to the commission.

    Are you following this
    Apply a camera profile
To apply a camera profile, select it from the Camera Profile pop-up menu in the Camera Calibration tab of the Camera Raw dialog box. The Adobe Standard profile for a camera is named Adobe Standard. Camera Matching profiles include the prefix Camera in the profile name. The Camera Profile pop-up menu displays only profiles for your camera.
If the only profile in the Camera Profilemenu is Embedded, it means that you have selected a TIFF or JPEG image. Adobe Standard and Camera Matching profiles work only with raw images.
Note:  If you have selected a raw file and Adobe Standardand Camera Matching profiles do not appear in the Camera Profilepop-up menu, download the latest Camera Raw update.
