New Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 and FCE

Does anyone know if this plugin will work in FCE?
here is an info link:
http://blog.planet5d.com/2010/03/canon-eos-movie-plugin-e1-for-final-cut-pro-now -available/
Thanks,
Mark

The plugin also allows you to convert to a regular Apple intermediate codec, >which is supported in FCE though.
That reference is to FCP7 only and not FCP6 that does have the same AIC as Express, check the details:
http://blog.planet5d.com/43l
I don't use FCP7 and cannot access a Canon cam to test.
I'm not at all sure if the mentioned AIC in FCP7 is a new codec or a typo.??

  • Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro Now Available...

There's been so much talk about the 5D, 7D, 550D on this board that I'm going to point to the EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro. This is supposed to speed to transcode of Canon Camera H.264 to FCP-friendly formats and let you add more metadata along the way.
    Enjoy!
Canon webpage. Under Drivers & Downloads. Once you select your OS, "Mac OS X", the download should appear near the top of the "Software" list.
    Note: (from Quickstart Guide)
This plug-in software allows you to convert MOV movies shot with an EOS Digital camera into ProRes files at high speed in the (Log & Transfer) window of Apple's Final Cut Pro.
FWIW: The quick start guide says cameras involved are 7D, 5D, 1D, no mention of 550D. Sort of odd.

For users in North America to make the Canon EOS REBEL T2i work (550D for Europe):
    1. Install the new Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...nloadDetailAct)
    2. Go to Library/Application Support/ProApps/MIO/RAD/Plugins/CanonE1.RADPLug/Contents/Resources/
    2. Open up cameras.plist
    3. After the 7D info add the following lines of code (keeping to the coding structure):
    <key>T2i</key>
    <array>
    <string>Canon EOS REBEL T2i</string>
    </array>
    4. Save the text file. Close it. Everything should work now.
    Cheerz.

  • Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7

Canon EOS Movie Plugin-E1 not recognized in Final Cut Pro 10.0.7
I just installed the new version of final cut pro 10 and the canon plugin-E1 version 1.4 for the canon 5D mk III but after starting final cut pro I can not find the Log and transfer button., with the result I cannot import my files.
Is there a solution for this problem.

There is no L&T function in FCPX.
The import media dialogue window does what you want.
OS versions later than 10.6 should be fine importing Canon DSLRs.

  • Problems with Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro

After about two weeks of using the Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro, I've found some clips are cut short when they are transcoded to Prores and appear in the browser. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, just started using this and noticed pretty soon afterwards. Seems to happen when I start clicking around or doing anything that uses the processor more than just surfing the web, but that's just anecdotal. I immediately stopped and started using MPEG Streamclip, but I really want the timecode.
Most recently, I had Log and Transfer open, transcoding some 7D footage, and a few of the clips didn't come in—they were left with the red stop-sign symbol/exclamation point. When I clicked to "retry," it stopped importing the current clip and started on the clip I retried. I clicked "retry" on another unimported clip, and again, the clip import stopped and the new clip began processing. I let it go through and, after the checking the footage, I discovered it had been incorrectly named the first clip's filename! Needless to say, I hand-checked every file to make sure it was the right duration (a few weren't), deleted the files from the Capture Scratch folder, and reimported—making sure I didn't touch the computer.
I hope they fix this bug, whatever it is.
BTW, I've experienced it on two separate Mac Pros.

  • Canon EOS movie plugin: can't convert; status = !

    Hi there!
I'm trying to log and transfer the H264 files from my Canon 7d into Final Cut 7 via the Canon EOS movie plugin.
(The new one: EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro 1.3) from 04/17/12.
This happened with the version before that as well, I never followed up the problem then...
The Plugin is recognized, I can select it in the log/transfer prefs, but after dragging it down to the converting window, it calculates for a sec then just shows a red ! under status. (see pic)
What can this be? Or what am I doing wrong?
I restarted Final Cut / the Computer /
I threw away the prefs, under user/library/prefrences/com.apple.FinalCut(pro)          (there where two I guess one is from the X version?)
    thanks for your help!

    Thanks for your help guys!
    Hi mishmumken!
It says "Error: Stream Error" (Translated from german: Fehler: Stream-Fehler)
Why would there be a stream error??
    @Michael
What more does this Application do? (Pref Mangager)
    I trashed the prefs in
    user/prefrences/com.apple.FinalCut.plist (& the com.apple.FinalCutpro.plist one)
are there more prefs to delete?
Regarding the installation, I did as described...
For conversion I use the great free MPEG Streamclip App.. http://www.squared5.com/  Ill check the ones you mentioned.
I would prefer to do the conversion in FCP but I guess I can do it externally.
Would love to get the EOS Plug to work though...

Can anyone tell me how to properly install the Canon EOS Movie plugin-E1 properly? Ive tried putting it into the library/application support/final cut pro system support/plugin folder but nothing happens when i try to log and transfer...

This plugin is available for download from Canon site in installer form. You need to launch the installer and don't have to copy any files by hand.

Re: Trash and Restore FCP 6 Preference Files
by Alan Smith on Sep 18, 2008 at 8:20:00 am
There are four files to trash when trying to trash the preferences.
    workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut ProObj Cache
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut ProProf Cache
When you delete these files and restart FCP each of these will be rebuilt.

  • Canon EOS Movie Plugin Inop

Canon EOS Movie plug in for Final Cut Pro is inoperative. The log and transfer window inadvertently got changed so just the screen viewer shows. I can not see the thumb views of the clips or the queue window The arrows that usually allow adjusting of window size show but do not allow clicking and grabbing for adjustment.
Any suggestions on how to revert back to the original log and transfer window or how to find the preferences to trash and start over? Reinstll?

  • New Canon EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro

Just thought your would like to know. From canonrumors.com
    http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/04/canon-updates-e1-plugin-for-fcp/
Canon today announces the latest update for EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro – the company’s custom-developed software application that provides quicker and easier editing of EOS Movie footage in Apple’s Final Cut Pro software suite.
Launching to coincide with the start of the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will make the importing of EOS Movie files even easier, allowing users to transfer files from any folder, without needing to mirror the folder structure on the camera itself.
The update also enables smoother importing from Canon’s EOS 7D, EOS 5D Mark II and EOS-1D Mark IV models, allowing users to import footage without requiring the THM file generated by the camera.
Originally launched in February 2010, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro is designed to quickly and seamlessly convert EOS Movie footage from Canon’s leading range of EOS DSLR cameras to Apple’s high-quality ProRes 422 codec. The plug-in allows users to convert footage at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion, creating a smoother workflow for the rapidly growing number of videographers shooting HD video content on DSLR cameras.
EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will be available to download for free from 25th April 2011.

And I just spent over an hour yesterday explaining to a client how utterly essential it was to maintain the exact folder structure for proper log & transfer:/
If I say that once a day to students, I say it a thousand times.
On top of that I just started Carbon Copy Clone today with all my updates in my editing lab. Not the end of the world but it's a little time consuming on 80 stations. Oh well.

  • My mavericks OS operating system won't install canon eos movie plugin

I recently upgraded to Mavricks OS and am in need to download plug-ins for FCP7 so that I am able to log and transfer 5D MII and MIII footage but it won't allow me to do so. I called canon but they were of no help and assumed that it would work although it does not. Does anyone have any suggestions? You all rock

The Mac Pro is a newer one "A1186" it says on the back.
Those models were first released in January, 2008, and discontinued in March, 2009. They shipped with Leopard, 10.5.x. That's what will be on the gray disks, if you still have them.
Perhaps you need to put on your reading glasses.  I did wipe the drive.
Be nice. No one here is a perfectly functioning android. We all overlook things at times. What babowa is saying about Lion has nothing to do with retrieving your father's personal data. It's when you do a Recovery mode restart, it won't reinstall Lion without knowing your father's App Store ID and password.
If you no longer have the original gray disks (or even if you do), your best bet is to call Apple and purchase a retail DVD copy of Snow Leopard, which will be version 10.6.3. Install that and then update it to 10.6.8, which will put the App Store on the drive. From there, you can login to your own App Store account and install later versions of OS X you have purchased. Which of course would be Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks. All of which will run on that Mac.

  • Canon EOS Movie Plugin

Does anyone know how to use this thing? I can't seem to get anything to happen. My footage is on a hard drive (not the camera). Will it still work? What's the process, I'm following the instructions, and nothing happens.

You need the files in the disk image with Thumbnails. You add the Folder Name.
    Folder Name
    ->DCIM
    ---->100EOS5D
Without the THM's it will not mount the folder. I had a similar issue, plus didn't have the THM's. I just replicated a THM and renamed them with the file names I was trying to import and it worked. You just need to construct your disc folder to look like your CF card. Any thumbnail will do so longer as the file name matches.....of course then your thumbnails won't be for the file, but at this stage, who cares?

  • CANNOT OPEN RAW FILES USING NEW CANON EOS 1D MKIII WITH PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 5

Hi, I have recently taken a number of RAW shots with my new Canon EOS 1D MKIII and have found that I am unable to import them into Photoshop Elements version 5 (using Microsoft Windows). Comments generated are: "the file is a format that cannot be included in the organiser" and "cannot open because it is the wrong type of file". The RAW file extension is .CR2 and I have been able to open these type of files taken on my older, and much cheaper, Canon 350D. I have spent hours considering different options but to no effect and am completely baffled. Do the two cameras produce different types of RAW files? Notably, the files do import into the Canon software 'Digital Photo Professional' but I want to undertake the more versatile manipulation in Photoshop Elements. I have managed to become even more baffled about Digital Negative ('DNG') files and wonder if there is some kind of converter I need. Would the solution be to purchase a more advanced Photoshop package like CS2? OR .......... do I need an 'Adobe Camera RAW' update? I have struggled to find the latest version for Photoshop Elements 5 to suit my Canon EOS 1D MKIII. There appears to be a 4.3.1 update but this only applies to Version CS3. Help!

You probably haven't had anyone respond to your question because it has been asked and answered so many times. However, I will try once again.
Adobe Camera Raw must have a profile for every model of every camera for which it supports the camera's raw format. It is not a matter of just supporting a file type such as your CR2 files. ACR needs to know specifically what model you are using. This is a problem that has been created by the different camera makers. They are the ones who are creating these proprietary raw formats. No, they do not cooperate with Adobe. That is why Adobe has to wait for a camera to be available, then obtain a raw file from that camera, and then create the profile so that ACR will recognize that camera. That is also why ACR is updated about four times each year, to provide support for newly released cameras.
In an attempt to create a "common" raw file format, Adobe has developed the DNG (Digital negative) file format. Adobe is providing a free DNG converter. You always want to download and use the latest version of the DNG converter because it will be the one that supports the most cameras. The DNG converter creates a digital negative copy of your raw image. It contains all of the original raw image data. The image data is precisely the same data that was in the original raw image. The difference is that the DNG file has a "standardized" file header that stores as much of the metadata as possible about the image. Metadata is the information that records the changes that you make to your image when you edit it. Some of the image data is proprietary, and is therefore not available to Adobe. Obviously, that information simply has to be ignored by ACR. There are no XMP files associated with the DNG files. The information is stored within the DNG file itself so the XMP sidecar file is not necessary.
If you decide to go the DNG route you want to make sure you are using the latest version of the DNG converter. It will convert raw files from the largest number of cameras. Those DNG files can be opened by any version of Camera Raw from version 2.4 onward. Consequently, someone who is still using Photoshop CS still has the capability of working on their raw files even if they have the most recent up to date camera.
Photoshop Elements will utilize ACR 4.3.1 and any subsequent updates to the ACR 4.x releases. Judging from past experience, there should be another release soon. No one knows for sure. These releases are never announced ahead of time. ACR is not as robust in Photoshop Elements as it is in Photoshop CS3. It is the same plug-in, but a number of options are not available. It will support the same cameras, however.
You don't need to worry about matching the DNG converter version number to your working version of ACR. The only relationship is that matching version numbers will support the same set of cameras. But the DNG files that are created can be used in any version of ACR from 2.4 onward.
Anyone who is involved with digital photography and shooting raw has become a victim of the arrogance of the camera makers. The camera makers want to protect their proprietary format, and they want to promote the use of their software. Some of that software has to be purchased, so it is another way for them to make money. Until such time as everyone agrees on a common raw format, the photographers are the ones who are at the mercy of the camera makers. And there will be a continual ongoing updating process that we will have to wait for.

Is the new Canon EOS 7D Mark II supported in Lightroom and Photoshop in Creative Cloud?  If not, is there anyway to know when it will be? My current version of Lightroom (5.6) does not recognize the RAW files from this camera.

Native Lightroom support for the D750 was added in the Lightroom 5.7 update released this evening.

At long last, do we now know the true identity of "Yammer"? Keith Nuttall?
Hope so. With all the experience and intelligence shown in Yammer's previous posts it would make total sense.
I for one cannot understand why people do not post under their real names. And I'm not prepared to say why. I'll let you guess.
If it is you Keith, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by letting the community know who you really are. It would give much more weight and authority to your posts for the casual forum participants who have not had a long-standing familiarity with your previous very insightful and helpful contributions.
Just my 2 cents. Don't care tuppence whether or not anyone disagrees with me.

  • I am thinking of buying the new Canon EOS 1DX

I am thinking of buying the new Canon EOS 1DX camera.
Do I need to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 to take full advantage of the new gear?  Thanks,

    Yes. You'll need Photoshop CS6.
Only Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 (and later) supports the Canon EOS 1DX.
"The Camera Raw 7.1 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS6."

    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.html
Note: you only have until 31 Dec 2012 to upgrade to CS6 from CS3 at upgrade prices. Under Adobe's new "one version back" policy introduced in the CS6 cycle, which comes into full effect on 1 Jan 2013, you will have to pay full price for CS6 if you have not upgraded by then.
