New Cars with Line-in in

For those of us wanting to play our various players in the car, it appears some of the car makers are catching on and making a standard "line-in" input in their new models. I just got something in the mail from Chevrolet about the Impala and all their 2006 models come with an "iPod input", which is just a mini-jack on the front of the stereo. I guess we have to get used to our Zens, etc. being called "iPods" by others, but I am encouraged that the car people are paying attention to this. If Chevy is doing it, then I'm sure it will catch on all over pretty soon. I still have a cassette player in my current car, but they are harder to find in new cars now and I just don't like those FM transmitter things.

There's a way to get a line-in input in many cars that weren't built with it.
For many models, you can buy adapters that plug into the back of your car stereo's head unit (the thing in the dashboard), and have a standard headphone jack on the other end to plug into your mp3 player. In my car, the adapter makes the stereo think my MuVo2 is a CD changer.
It's really easy to use, and the sound quality is just like listening to a CD. The day I installed my adapter, I literally threw out my FM transmitter, which never worked well, even in rural areas with few or no FM stations. I've used the adapter for six months or so with absolutely no problems.
I don't know the rules about posting Web sites or brand names on this forum, so I won't. But you can do a Web search for auxiliary input adaptor. There are several brands out there. It varies depending on the model car, but prices seem to hover in the $60 to $70 range.

  • Non compatible with new car radio

    I have a new car with a new radio made for iPods (MP Players). I have been using my other ipod, the one that looks like a stick of gum, and it works fine. I just tried my Touch and ...no sound. I can see it is charging the Touch but it won't play.
    Any ideas. Didn't find any in my search of this topic.
    Rob

    Try putting it on music first.
    The Touch is different from other iPods, so I'm not surprised that older, pre-Touch systems may not like it.
    If you have an aux jack, that will work, but as you said, no charge.
    I have a Scion tC with the iPod option, and it does work with the Touch - two years before the Touch was on the market, so I'm happy, but would understand if it didn't work.

  • When using USB input iPod classic won't read in new car

    Just bought a new car with a factory iPod ready stereo system. When using the USB input iPod Classic won't read but son's iPod touch does. Anyway I can fix this? I know my Classic works fine as I was using it in my other car and it works in my wife's car. Is the car just too new therefore making my Classic incompatible and soon to be obsolete?

    the best option is to contact the car manufacturer or look at the manual to make sure it supports your ipod verision. if it is a custom radio then look then contact the manufacturer or look at the manual for same thing. you can try a reset with http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.

  • Any car charger with line level dock RCA outputs?

    Hello,
    My new car has RCA aux input jacks. I am looking for a car charger that will plug into a standard cigarette lighter type plug that also has the dock line level output with RCA plugs so I can keep the iPod charged and hook it up to RCA. I'm not interested in a headphone jack based RCA plug since that's not the line level out.

    Found it cheap! $28.88

  • How can I create a new Care Plan with one or more care tasks

    Hello,
    I'm working on a Dutch website in the HealthVault Environment. I got difficulties in creating and updating a careplan with care tasks. Most likely it's due to lack of knowledge...
    Following code works fine:
    CarePlan plan = new CarePlan();
    plan.Name = "test";
    this.PersonInfo.SelectedRecord.NewItem(plan);
    It creates a plan called [test]. But I don't know how to create a plan with one or more tasks in it: the tasks property is read only.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.health.itemtypes.careplan.tasks.aspx
    Half a year ago I was able to add an example of a careplan, which was a feature of the dev tools, but for some reason that's not possible anymore.
    https://developer.healthvault.com/DataTypes/Overview?TypeId=415c95e0-0533-4d9c-ac73-91dc5031186c
    So my question is, how can I add a new care plan with a task like the example from the HealthVault dev tools:
    <tasks>
    <task>
    <name>
    <text>Run 100 miles</text>

    Hi Wilfred,
    Have you tried this?
    CarePlan plan = new CarePlan();
    plan.Name = "test";
    plan.Tasks.Add(someTask)
    If you have a task list already, you would need to enumerate through it and add one by one...
    foreach (var task in existingList)
        plan.Tasks.Add(task)

  • Im having trouble pairing my iphone with my new car

    I recently bought a new car that offers handsfree calling with a paired bluetooth phone.  I had no problems pairing my phone, but I cannot make a call using the hands free speaker option.  My contacts are all loaded into the car, but I can still not call hands free.  Is there a setting that I can change on my phone to fix this prolem?

    Consult the manual for your car or contact your dealer. There are no settings to change on the phone. If it's paired, connected, and the contacts are showing up on the in-car system, it's up to the in car system to do the rest.

  • Wrong sequence settings used on my timeline; can I copy the timeline to a new sequence with correct settings?

    The clip properties are Frame size 1440x1080, 23.98 fps (yes a problem for FCE), Compressor:  Apple Intermediate Codec, but unfortunately I did all of my hard work on a 30 minute film on a sequence that has SD settings (Frame size 720x480), 29.97 fps, compressor: DV/DVCPRO- NTSC. I first noticed there was a problem when I could only get the exported quicktime movie to appear as a 4:3 when it was supposed to be a 16:9.  I have overcome that problem by exporting using quicktime conversion and customizing the settings to reflect the correct item properties of the original clips.
    But my concern is that my project is still fundamentally based on a timeline that was created in a sequence with SD settings and that maybe I have lost some resolution quality.  I am sitting here looking at the iDVD preview and I am not always sure it looks as sharp as the same clip viewed in FCE dropped in a sequence with the right settings.  But maybe iDVD preview isn't as sharp, or maybe it's just myimagination.  Any thoughts?
    Ideally, what I would liketo do is to copy my timeline out of the first sequence with the wrong settings,and to copy it into a new sequence with the proper settings.  But I am wondering if that timeline is now "infected" with the wrong settings,and brings these over to the new sequence.  The guy on the Apple help linetold me this was unfortunately the case.  Am I really going to have tocompletely do this work over again to get a completely correct workflow?
    Any way around this?

    Al,
    very much appreciate your time on this.  Hopefully just one more question.  I am trying to figure out whether or not converting the tremendous amount of footage I have from this project shot in 24p will be worth it.  In my mind, it is only worth it, if by not doing it, I will end up with a finished product that does not have as good of a picture quality.  At this point, I dont care at all about having the 'film look' 24p is supposed to give you, I just dont the picture quality degraded somehow because FCE doesnt support 24p, and I am using a 29.97fps sequence to edit it.
    So with all of that said, my question is this:
    1.  When you said before that when a clip hits a sequence it conforms to the properties of the sequence, what do you think is happening to the clip?  For instance, if the clip in the Browser as you shot it has got 1440 pixels for every 1080 lines and you place it on a 720x480 sequence, is some of that information literally disappearing?  That seems hard to believe.  I would think that kind of conversion would require a program to execute it and some processing time, but the drag and drop on a sequence is instantaneous.  And my HD footage on the SD sequence still seems to look better to me than my SD stuff, although that could just be perception.  Same issue with the frame rate.  When I drag and drop a 24fps clip onto a sequence set for 29.97 fps, how can the clip now have more frames per second?  That would be additonal information that was never captured in the first place.  How is that possible?  I do believe that the clips are changed in some way that affects the output, but it doesnt seem possible that 'conforming' to the properties of the sequence is the same thing as if you shot the original footage with those sequence settings. Something else must be meant by that right?
    2.  Will converting the original clips in streamclip change the frame rate..them from 24p to 29.97?  If they are still 24p, then don't you still run into the same problem when you edit in FCE?  And if they are changed to 29.97, how is that better than just dropping them onto a sequence set to HDV 1080 29.97fps and having it conform to that?  What exactly is the upshot of doing the streamclip conversion?  Especially if I don't care about the 24p look now.

  • Em new Tablespace with OFA names

    Hello,
    I created my database with the DBCA and used OFA for the datafiles names. When creating a new Tablespace with the Enterprise Manager, he wants a file name from me. Is there any way to use OFA with the EM ?
    Ilja

    >
    Any way or solution I can add a new tablespace in EM without adding a datafile by myself ?
    >
    Hi Ilja,
    I noticed the same behavior of EM also. Didn't care much, because I am a command line addicted :-)
    If you create your Database on ASM, though, then EM gives you full support for using OMF conventions together with (default) ASM templates. But the main benefit of ASM is not to lead EM to nice behavior in that particular area, of course.
    Short answer is: Not that I am aware of, sorry.
    Kind regards
    Uwe
