Hey @tonygrooove ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you are not able to get black ink to print out even though you just got a new black ink cartridge.
So that I can further assist you, please answer the following questions;
1. What printer model are you using?
2. What Operating System are you using? Press the link to find out, in case you don't know already. http://whatsmyos.com/
3. What troubleshooting have you already done?
Look forward to hearing back from you. Have a nice day.

  • New Cartridge, Low Ink

Installed 4 new cartridges on my CP1215. The black one says 100%. The Cyan and Magenta register 89% and 92% respectively. My Yellow (bought in the three pack with the other two colors) registers 79%. What is wrong. Why would they each not be 100% or near 100% since they are new? Should I return the low ones and get another pack?

It is an HP cartridge (purchased at Office Depot), but I do get a message that it is remanufactured each time I print.  That's strange because it was packaged and sold as new. I paid the "new" price, too.
If that is true, did I get ripped off?  Should I complain to Office Depot?  And how will I know if it is truly empty?  I never, ever use that cartridge because I print in black only, but the previous one suddenly "ran out of ink" and shut the printer down.  Apparently there is no option to bypass color, which I'm not real thrilled with.  There's also (apparently) no option to put a black cartridge on each side.
I am not sure which "4200 series" printer you have.  Deskjet, Photosmart, Officejet?  You might try removing the color cartrdige entirely, some models do not require both cartrdiges to be present.  On models (like yours) with integrated printheads on the cartridge running out of ink will not cause printing to stop, but an electrical failure of the cartridge will prevent printing.  You cannot put a black cartrdige in the color slot.
What did the packaging for your cartridge look like? Was it HP packaging or Office Depot?  See here for some information on counterfiet cartridges - I would not think this would be likely with a major retailer.  I have seen a used cartrdige returned to the store and placed on the shelf (at a major retailer but NOT at Office Depot), it is possible you have a cartridge that was returned.  Was the original clear tape on the cartridge?  Was the box sealed?

Thanks It is a HP Photosmart 6510....new printer. All was working fine until I went into Settings. I corrected what I had done but no black ink at all. HELP!!!!!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless Printer - A809n.says it's out of ink but has new cartridge

about 6 monhs ago the printer stopped printing stating it was a out of ink (black) after i replaced the cartridge it stopped again after about 10 days. i contacted HP and they basically told me to get a new printer. i decided to try a new cartridge again and reboot etc, etc. it still would work i use my other HP printer before looking to buy another. i read on the internet that this was a frequent problem with the HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless Printer - A809n. and it might be an printhead problem. i replaced the printhead and any low  or outdated ink cartridge. the printer worked perfectly for 4 weeks. now i am having the same problem. this sticks. it is leaving a bad taste . i have been a loyal HP user  i feel HP has made a questionable product and is not standing behind it.

  • HP photo B210a not printing black ink with a new cartridge installed

The color cartridges print when I clean the heads, etc. but the black cartridge will not print.  It did fine, it ran out of ink, so, I replaced the cartridge with new ink, the same HP ink I always use.  I thought it was the cartridge, do, I bought another one, and it too did not print. After several times cleaning, aligning, removing and reinserting, to no avail did it print black.  What gives?  What do I need to do to correct this situation. It is an HP all-in-one inkjet printer, B210a.  It is only 1.5 years old and not used that much.
    Thanks,
    Bonnie

What can i do to get this new cartridge to work.  Very frustrating

  • Office Pro 8000: Can't Print/Out of Ink Error even after installing new cartridge.

When I tried to use my printer a few days ago, I received a "Can't Print: Out of Ink" error message concerning the magenta cartridge.  I had used the printer a few days before that, and had not received a low ink warning.  It seemed suspicious to me that I would have received an empty cartridge error message without first receiving a low cartridge warning.  The yellow and cyan cartridges read 70% full - all 3 were original cartridges.
I purchased a new 940XL magenta cartridge and installed it per instructions.  Now I am getting a message that the new 940XL cartridge is empty.  I can shake the old 940 cartridge and hear liquid inside.  Obviously, the new cartridge is also full.  I've tried cycling power, reinstalling the software, etc, with no change in status.  If I swap back and forth between the old 940 and new 940XL cartridge, they are properly identified by type on my screen as the 940 or 940XL.  Due to the way the problem has presented itself, I don't believe it is a cartridge issue.
Of course, problem first arouse on May 8th, and my warrantee expired April 26th.  Any suggestions?

I've solved my own problem, which was clearly a factory assembly defect.  I looked inside my printer with a flashlight in the area where the ink cartridges are installed, and found magenta ink sprayed inside the printer.  I disassembled the printer, and found that the magenta line had been damaged during assembly.  There are four ink tubes which exit from behind the ink cartridges, then make a U turn back toward the front of the printer.  Just after the U turn, they make another bend up-wards.  It is at this point that I found the damaged magenta line, directly above a screw on the right-hand side of the ink cartridge housing.  The lines are in a very narrow passage, and are held in place by several keepers molded out of plastic.  It appears that the lines were put in place in the keepers, then the screw inserted from above.  As I said, it is a very tight passage, and it would be very easy to damage the ink line at that point if the lines weren't carefully held back to insert the screw during assembly.
To solve the problem, I removed approximately 1/4 inch of damaged magenta ink line.  I carefully cut the line with a sharp razor, to prevent collapsing the line or causing burrs to the tubing.  I then placed about 3/4" of self-sealing heat shrink tubing over one end of the ink line.  Next I spliced the line with a small piece of stiff plastic tubing from the handle of a cotton swab, which was a perfect, snug fit over the ink line.  Being careful not to collapse the ink tube or cause further damage, I gently twisted the ink line back and forth until the ends were butted up inside the cotton swab splice.  I then positioned the heat-shrink tubing over the splice, and shrunk it with a hair dryer.  The heat-shrink tubing I used has hot-melt glue applied to the inside, which further aided in making a leak-proof splice.  Again, there is not a lot of room, so the splice had to be kept small.
I reassembled the printer, reinstalled the ink cartridges, and powered up the printer.  After the normal, long start-up delay, I printed several full-color test sheets, and all was fine.  The magenta cartridge that I had installed previously now shows that it is full, and the remaining cartridges also read the levels that they had prior to disassembly.

  • Black ink not working after my computer did an update (2 new cartridges put in)

Black ink stopped working suddenly.  Tried 2 new cartridges and they did not work.  Since the day before their was an automatic 'updates' on my computer I thought it was that, but making copies doesn't work either.  I already cleaned the print heads with still not even a hint of black ink coming out.
Usually, when the ink gets low it will be light at first or streaky . . . not just none at all.  Could the update been a problem?

The update is likely not related.  I would suggest going through the troubleshooting steps in the document here.   Be sure especially to check the vents as shown in solution six.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue soaking the printhead as shown in the post here may help.

  • Desket 21514 ink cartridge incompatible after installing new cartridge

I bought a new black hp 61 ink cartridge and replaced the old one. After doing so the ink indicator started to flash and a notification came up saying that bothe the colored and ink cartridges were incompatible. I know that the color cartridge is copatible becasue i have been using it for months and it is the same one thwe printer came with. I have tried taking out the black cartridge and replacing it with the old one but the same problem. I have tried cleaning the cartridges and the ports they go in but its the same thing.

    Hiya @jas123456,
Happy Friday! I see that since replacing your black cartridge your printer is rejecting both the black and the color cartridge. I would be happy to help you work towards a solution.
I wonder if, although you tried replacing the new cartridge with the older one, and cleaning the contacts, if the following document will help to resolve the error; HP Deskjet Printers - 'Incompatible Print Cartridge' or 'Print Cartridge Problem' Message Displays o....

  • New cartridge of Black ink not printing and new cartridges of colored inks very light

Just installed all new cartridges and ran an alignment page.  The colors are very light and no black ink printed at all.  Before installing the new ink the printer would not actually print anything even though the status showed the document as "printing".  The color ink lights had been blinking so I changed all three of them, still could not get the printer to print anything. I unplugged the printer and my computer and after booting everything back up a Word document would only produce a blank page so I thought the black ink needed to be replaced as well.  After installing everything I ran the alignment page which shows very light colors and no black. What should I do next?  The cartidges are authentic HP 920 XL Black, 920 Cyan, 920 Magenta, and 920 Yellow bought in a Combo-pack from Staples.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Officejet 6000 printer.  Do the steps in order.  Before considering Solution 8 - Replace the Printhead you might try soaking the printhead as described in the post here.

  • Ink levels in brand new cartridges not at 100%.

I just installed several new cartridges in my HP Photosmart D7460 printer.  I need to print some important papers so I printed the Self Test Diagnostic Page immediately after installation.  Nothing else had been printed, nor did I do any of the cleaning procedures.
The report indicates that two of the four cartridges I installed are not full.  The Cyan cartridge is 83% and the Magenta is at 95%.
Truly folks, for the amount of money I have to pay for these things, which are atrociously expensive, why am I not getting cartridges that are 100% full?  I have never run this test before upon cartridge replacement, but at the speed in which they get used up, and I'm the only one printing, I'd be willing to bet I've been getting ripped off before.
I believe you folks need to make this right.  Please let me know asap how you intend to proceed.
    Sincerely,
    Mimi Shanahan

    Hi,
Firstly the first test/turn on will consume many inks to "wet" the machine and secondly the setup inks will never, never, never full.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Black ink no longer works even with new cartridge

After trying 2 new cartridges, the black ink seems to have suddenly stopped working. I've done Status Report, Quality Report, Clean Printhead, and Align Printer. Color all works fine. On Quality report the black box is blank. I tried copying a sheet with black typing. A black copy was blank. A color copy had a slight brown printing.

Sorry to hear this. I'm going to help follow up on this for you (you should be hearing from someone via private message). I take it you're based in the US, right?

My 8500 tries to align after new cartridges installed, followed by "alignment failure" message. Initially started when I tried to print simple black type document and it came out blank. I have reset, unplugged, re-installed the cartridges, and still no improvement.

    Hello David_W,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with an Alignment error.
I do have some steps that we can take to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document on An 'Alignment failed' Error Message Displays on the Printer Control Panel.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.
