New Catalogue for 2008

After seeing 2007 as a "learning curve" for Adobe Lightroom, I would like to start 2008 with a "clean slate" and intend to start with a new catalogue for my work in 2008. I have read so many opinions of the "ideal" way to set lightroom up, database on different drives to raw files, dedicated hard drives for processed files etc etc. I run a Dual core pentium with 2 gigs ram, 2 internal hard drives, 1 c drive for system and raw images, another for processed files and a number of external drives that images are backed up to after submitted to clients.Its not "cutting edge" but not "stone age" either, and I'm a bit dissapointed at performance. Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a "ideal" way to configure Lightroom 1.3 given my setup? I have also read that there is a problem with nVidea Desktop manager and I should uninstall it. Is that correct and if so, how?
Apart from issues mentioned above, I noticed when I explored the System Info in the Help toolbar in Lightroom I noticed that Ram Available to lightroom was 712mb as against the 2gb installed on machine. Is that correct or should I somehow allocate more ram to Lightroom, if so, how"?
Kind regards and a regards for the new year.
Kevin Wright

You do not need to uninstall the
b nView
Desktop Manager. Just disable the features by clicking the Disable button. If at a later date you require some of the features click on the Enable box. (Bring up the dialog by R-clicking the nVidea settings icon on the Windows task manager and choosing nView desktop Manager > nView Properties.)
Finally I would not be particularly fussed as to having the Lr database on a physical drive separate from your photos. Just make sure you have fast drives. Organizing your directory structure for photos is more important.

  • Suggestions for new HD for 2008 aluminum MB

    Just found out my HD is dying and needs replacement. I have apple care but somehow apple is having problems finding it and need to wait until they open up after the july 4th weekend to sort things out with them.  If successful, then they'll just replace free of charge.
    In the event I have to replace on my own, would then like to replace with larger HD.  I've already found youtube demo on how to actually replace it. I have a couple of questions:
    1. Can I replace with HD, say 500 gb or is there a max size?
    2. Recommendations on a specific HD or brand?
    3. I assume 7200 is better than 5400 rpm?
    Thanks in advance for suggestions and Happy July 4th!

    pick up a sata to USB cable, remove hard drive, install new hard drive, install OS, plug the old drive in via USB and drag and drop.

  • New iMac for 2008?

    Does anyone know if there is going to be a new iMac coming early next year with the 45nm chipset? I am thinking of getting a new one and wondering if I should wait it out. There is a supposed 40% power increase with the new processor according to Intel.

    Hello,
    Only Apple knows when new Macs will be released. The current models are only a few months old and plenty fast enough. There's no need to get hung up on a specific processor specification

  • Where is a good place/path/directory to create the catalogue for Lightroom 5 ?

    Hi there,
    Can I know where is the most proper/efficient and proper place/path/directory to create the catalogue for Lightroom 5?
    Thanks

    The default is the Pictures folder but its a personal choice. Some users keep the catalog on an external hard drive so that it can be shared between desktop and laptop computers.
    Thanks 99Jon,
    I am new to Lightroom.
    Can I know what is this Catalogue folder for ?
    Do you create a new catalogue for every timelapse project or do you put the pictures of all timelapse project into the same catalogue ?

  • Trying to organize a new workflow for travel using a desktop, laptop and IPad using LR mobile

    Apologies in advance as I'm sure this has been asked but I am swamped with information on the web.
    OK for travel I want to upload images to my laptop from my CF cards.  I then want to be able to make basic edits and flags on the laptop (which I am yet to purchase) and then have this reflect on my desktop.  I have LR mobile so figured the laptop access would allow me to do the same things as if I was viewing on the IPad but apparently not...Please help!
    I have read about some people exporting the catalog backwards and forwards between the 2 devices and this seems messy and I don't think I want to get into that.  A main attraction was to be able to upload and edit on the road (I'm taking a 3.5 week trip to Cambodia) and then on my return to my desktop have a lot of the work done to then make final detailed edits and subsequent books, prints etc.
    I love photography but I'm not a tech geek so any help/suggestions appreciated!

    On the laptop start a new catalogue for the trip. Import all new photos into it. At the end, copy it and the images to the desktop and in, your main catalogue, use File > Import from Another Catalog to bring in all the work in the trip catalogue. Maybe practice this workflow now and return with other questions?

  • New init for InfoCube

    Hi,
    I have InfoCubes for 2006 and 2007. Data is loaded into those cubes from one ODS as a delta load.
    I want to create a new cube for 2008.
    And now I want to know how to initialize this new cube without having to re-init the 2006 and 2007 cubes.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi theo,
    Select this cube in the info package data targets tab and do init without data transfet and run the deltas to all these 3 cubes by selecting all the cubes in the data target..

  • Is it worth it spending $200 dlls in the new Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac?

    I am trying to decide whether to upgrade my Mac to the new Microsoft Office 2008. Is it worth it? What are the differences between the new version and the old one?

    There are more differences than would be practical to list here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicrosoftOffice_2008_forMac
    might be a good place to start, as well as Microsoft's website for a full description of new features. ArsTechnica also has a review of it on their website somewhere too.
    Is there any specific reason for upgrading? If not, then I would recommend sticking with 2004. I went out and got 2008 about a month ago (student licensing, so it only cost me $40) and I'm not at all impressed. It's slower than 2004, even on my quad-core Mac Pro. The overall responsiveness of the application is sluggish, especially in Powerpoint. Dragging textboxes and other elements around the page, for example, is incredibly laggy and feels imprecise. No to mention Microsoft broke Endnote compatibility in Word 2008 as well, so if the Cite While You Write feature is important to you, forget about it. I'm sticking with Office 2004 and iWork for now. I don't feel so bad since I only spent $40 on it; no way would I justify $200 unless I needed 2008 for a specific reason (ie work compatibility, etc)

  • Installing a new forest for the first time in 2008 R2 SP1

    Installing a new forest for the first time in 2008 R2 SP1 with no other forests present do I run:
    E:\support\adprep\adprep /domainprep
    or any other adprep to get the forest ready using the Answer File:
    [DCINSTALL]
    InstallDNS="Yes"
    NewDomain="Forest"
    NewDomainDNSName="mysite.com"
    DomainNetBiosName="MYSITE"
    ReplicaOrNewDomain="Domain"
    ForestLevel="4"
    DomainLevel="4"
    CreateDNSDelegation="No"
    DatabasePath="C:\Windows\NTDS"
    LogPath="C:\Windows\NTDS"
    SYSVOLPath="C:\Windows\SYSVOL"
    ConfirmGc="Yes"
    SafeModeAdminPassword=""
    RebootOnCompletion=Yes

    Hi,
    As per your statement, there aren't any other forest which mean you are creating a new AD forest in windows server 2008 R2 SP1.
    You don't need to run adprep then. Just run dcpromo on the server and select new forest and provide a Domain Name and follow the instruction.

  • ESXI 5.5 howto prepare new template for windows src 2008/2012

    Does it exist howto create correct Windows 2008/2012 template ?
    I don't understand if I have to run sysprep utility BEFORE to convert virtual machine to template.
    I a sky myself this one because when I'd like understand better how works "Deploy Virtual Machine from this Template" specifically in Guest customisation:
    Do not customize
    Customize using the customization wizard
    Customize using an existing customization specification
    Revise me if I wrong:
    step 1: vmware will not invoke sysprep utility
    step 2,3: vmware will invoke sysprep utility
    If It was right my opinion when I run sysprep before to convert vm to template and after I choose step 2,3, sysprep would be invoke 2 twice !!! While in step 1 it should be once.
    I don't run sysprep before to convert vm to template and I choose step 1 sysprep is never applied, so no new SID for new virtual machine is created!??! what is state  of new vm?!?

    Hello,
    I don't understand if I have to run sysprep utility BEFORE to convert virtual machine to template.
    Sysprep is always used during deployment of the new VM from the VM Template you have prepared/customized before.
    So first you have to prepare vanilla install of  2008/2012 server as VM ... reconfigure it for your needs and once you have finished
    you have to convert (ensile it) this VM to the Template from which you will deploy as many new VMs as you want...
    Sysprep will come to the process right at the VM deployment phase during Deploy Template Wizard where you have 3 options:
    • Do not customize - this options will not change any OS settings they remain the same as in source machine (Template)
    • Customize using the Customization Wizard - any custom option it this wizard will trigger sysprep procces inside newly deployed VM after its first Power On...
    • Customize using an existing customization specification - same as above using previously created and saved customnization
    You are running or invoking sysprep proccess always after you already have VM Template ready using Customization Wizard/Existing cutomization specification.
    When you choose  Do not customize option SID remains the same as in source VM/Template so you will have then SID duplicity in your environment...
    Just in addition if you chose Do not customize or uncheck SID change option in the Cust.Wizard duplicated SID its not an issue if your VMs
    are part of Active Directory domain and also if you using mainly AD accounts.
    If your VMs are just a part of a Workgroup and local accounts are used you can have a problems with ACLs on files/folders for more on that topic see:
    Blogs - Mark's Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
    Aslo review these articles before you begin:

  • Best way to start a new catalog for 2009 ?

    Hi,
    What's the best way to start a new catalog for the new year, with all the keywords and all the presets of the modules (without having to export all the folders) of previous catalog 2008 ?
    Thanks,
    Dominique

    Well there is a cost too in not being able to find all your images in a single step, and inconsistencies soon develop - eg a keyword is plural in one catalogue, singular in another. Speed or stability issues are not simply related to catalogue size, and I've seen decently-performing catalogues 50% bigger than yours (as well as slow ones of a few hundred images). Have you optimized the catalogue recently?
    But if you think it's a good idea to fragment control of your picture collection.... Presets will be carried over to a new catalogue as they belong to the machine (unless you have the save with catalogue preference turned on). Keywords can be moved via the Metadata > Export and Import Keywords command. If you have lots of collections and smart collections, then maybe make a copy of your existing catalogue and then remove all the items from it - making sure you don't trash them of course.

  • How can i buy new battery for my macBook pro in France

    Hello,
    Please, someone can tell me how to find and buy new battery for my 2008 macBook pro in France ?
    This one is very old, i already changed this battery one time, i think Apple store of town won't be ok to make the work cause i have made it myself one time before (it has fallen several times, almost broken, means impossible to shut the battery place but still working on). So i bought a battery to a third provider, wich doesn't work of course, try to ask to online assistance but i have to pay 30 € just to ask my question and i doesn't want...
    SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO CHANGE MY BATTERY ??? HELP !!!
    I bought it in 2008. I don't know exactly the serie. Just know it's a 2,4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo.
    The reference of battery is A1281 10,8V 50 Wh. Can't find it on the store. The only one i found was on a website who didn't tell it's was a fake...
    Lost 85 €

    Here are the International Apple support telephone numbers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/he57
    I note Egypt is not listed.
    Purchasing a battery from a third party vendor is a high risk proposition.  Many such batteries have been found to be substandard.
    I suggest that you try and contact Apple and see if you can have one shipped to you.
    Ciao.

  • How to create a new row for a VO based on values from another VO?

    Hi, experts.
    in jdev 11.1.2.3,
    How to create a new row for VO1 based on values from another VO2 in the same page?
    and in my use case it's preferable to do this from the UI rather than from business logic layer(EO).
    Also I have read Frank Nimphius' following blog,but in his example the source VO and the destination VO are the same.
    How-to declaratively create new table rows based on existing row content (20-NOV-2008)
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/13-create-with-params-169140.pdf
    I have tried:
    1.VO1(id,amount,remark1) and VO2(id,amount,remark2) are based on different EO,but render in same page,
    2.Drag and drop a Createwithparams button for VO1(id,amount,remark),
    3.add: Create insertinside Createwithparams->Nameddata(amount),
    4.set NDName:amount, NDValue:#{bindings.VO2.children.Amount}, NDtype:oracle.jbo.domain.Number.
    On running,when press button Createwithparams, cannot create a new row for VO1, and get error msg:
    <Utils> <buildFacesMessage> ADF: Adding the following JSF error message: For input string: "Amount"
    java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "Amount"
         at java.lang.NumberFormatException.forInputString(NumberFormatException.java:48)
    Can anyone give some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,CM,
    I'm really very appreciated for your quick reply! You know, today is Saturday, it's not a day for everyone at work.
    My principal requirement is as follows:
    1.select/check some rows from VO2, and for each selection create a new row with some attributes from VO2 as default values for VO1's corresponding attributes, and during this process the user may be cancel/uncheck or redo some of the selections.
    --so it's better to implement it in UI rather than in EO.
    2.it's better to implement this function with declarative way as in Frank Nimphius' blog.
    --little Jave/JS coding, the better. I only have experience in ORACLE FORMS, little experience in JAVA/JS.
    In order to get full information for the requirements of my use case, can take a check at:
    How to set default value for a VO query bind variable in a jspx page?
    (the end half of the thread: I have a more realworld requirement similar to the above requirement is:
    Manage bank transactions for clients. and give invoices to clients according to their transaction records. One invoice can contain one or many transactions records. and one transaction records can be split into many invoices.
