New chargers...

what is it with the flimsy design of these current chargers?my n91 charger doesn't work anymore, ptobably cos the charger head is messed up but i've to resort to the charger adapter that came with the phone. don't know if its like that anywhere else in the world though.
And Thats I Got To Say About That!

The charger that came with my N80 gave up working after about 6 uses. Maybe not even that many. Shockingly bad.
Fortunately, we have loads of old style Nokia chargers (with the bigger pin) and they just keep on working - just as well the phone came with an adapter!
The charger I carry around with me is a 3rd party USB charger that came with mains and car adapters. It's small, light, covers all the options and only cost £5 on ebay.

  • Yea my iphone charger broke again and this is about the 7th timeits happened and im getting tired of wasting my money on new chargers... I dont rip the charger out, i take good care of it. I dont get why it keeps breaking?

This is about the 5th time its broken and i take really good care of the charger. Im tired of getting new chargers, does someone have any ideas on how to fix it or how to not spend $30 on a new charger? HELP PLEASE!!!

why would you be buying new chargers?  The charger that came with your phone is warrantied for a year, just like the phone.  Bring the defective cable or charger to Apple for replacement.

  • Will the new chargers work with my MacBook Pro?

I got my MacBook Pro in December 2007 and yesterday the charger broke. The cord that connects to the magnetic piece ripped off completely.
My question is, will the new chargers apple currently sells work with my late 2007 MacBook Pro?

Yes, see the attached article.  Near the bottom is this quote:
Note: Although the replacement adapter may not have the same connector shape ("T" or "L") or wattage as the original adapter that came with your computer, newer adapters should power and charge your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air just like the adapter that originally came with your computer.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. (is this what you meant by charger?)
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Old macbook, new chargers

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 2.2 late 2006 and I'm having problems with my charger, it seems some of the wires inside it aren't transmiting electricity very well, since I have to keep always changing the position of the wire if I want to get some energy on my mac. The charger is a Magsafe 85W model A1222.
Question is: The new macbook Magsafe 85W chargers which come with the new macbook Pro's can also work with my macbook which is a late 2006 model ?
Thank you very much for you time !

Yes... but you may need to install this firmware update....
That firmware update does not apply to 2006 MBPs. From the article:
    Products Affected: MacBook (13-inch, Early 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), MacBook (13-inch, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008), MacBook (13-inch Late 2007)
Yes, there are reported issues with the L-connector on computers that originally came with a T-connector. Most are fit issues, where the new connector may not make proper contact. If you are near an Apple Store, take your computer with you when you go to get an adaptor and stand there until they demonstarte to you that the new charger is working with your computer.

  • Problems with 2 new chargers

Hello everybody (sorry for the mistakes I could make).
I have 2 iPod Shuffle: a 2nd generation and a 4th generation. Lately I bought 2 chargers for each of them (see here and here for more details about these chargers).
However my computer and iTunes don’t recognize both of them, they succeeded to accept them about 1/10 of the time, it is weird because I proceeded exactly in the same way and sometimes it suddenly works without explication.
Before I had a charger for my 4th gen' iPod (that I lost, that's the reason why I bought another one) and it worked perfectly, it's strange because it was the same charger.
Of course I already followed the help of the assistance section (here in French), now I don’t know what I could do.
I have 3.0 USB ports, Windows 8 and the last version of iTunes (11.3.1).
Thanks by advance if someone can help me.
    Good evening.

There are a lot of problems using non-Apple cables as they often do not meet Apple specifications so the iPod or other iOS device will not recognize the cable. Visit an Apple store genius bar and try your iPod with one of their systems.

  • TS2771 I Cannot Turn On My Ipod Touch 5G AT ALL, I Tries holding the 2 buttons, i did DFU Mode, i tried with 5 different chargers, ad the 5 chargers was all brand new, and still when i connect the brand new chargers, it wont, and it is OUT out of battery.

I Explained It Up there^ i cannot turn on no matter, what and today is the 7th Of January, and my hardware warranty from apple ends tomorrow, and i am out of country, and will be coming back on 14th, and i am in Poland, there is no Apple stores at all, i checked, even if there is, it would be 4 hours or more away from the city where i am, and idk what to do, i read a bunch of stuff, i tried everything, and my ipod is clean, no scratches, no cracks, beautiful, and is shiny, and ha sbeen protected since last year, and no damage, and it has never been dropped, what do i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Where can I buy a new charger?!?!

Ok so my powerbook charger popped, fizzed, sparked and died. Now I am left laptop-less and in the middle of midterms week. Almost everyone I know owns an apple laptop but they all have the NEW chargers...ugh! What can I do? I tried ordering offline and this is the picture I keep getting with my search:
    http://store.l-f-l.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?rrc=N&pg=prod&ref=ACG4&op=M8482LL/A&bd =APPLE&CMP=BAC-nextag
Where is the plug itself? It seems like I need another piece to connect it to an outlet. AH! Please help me!!!

That is a third party AC adapter and I am certain that the photo is only for illustrative purposes, which is missing the second piece, the cord that goes to the outlet.
Almost all third party AC adapters that look like this style, whether the three-slot or two-slot opening (if you know what I mean), come with the brick and plug that goes into your computer, and the cord that goes from the brick to the outlet.
Of course, you can always try eBay where you can get them new and used for good prices. Just make sure you get the one for your machine. Third party adapters may have the wrong connector piece intended for the older G3s with thicker heads.
If you buy Apple's adapter, or a compatible third party adapter, you can either get 45W or 65W since it is interchangeable and won't harm your computer. (If you had the 15-inch PowerBook, I'd recommend, aluminum that is, you get the 65W adapter).

  • My brand new charger broke off inside my iPad air...

ive had my iPad air for two years  now and I've had every iPhone since the second one that came out... but all of a sudden the "high" quality charges that apple are offering obviously aren't of the quality they say. three brand new chargers I've bought in the last two weeks have all broken, one inside my iphone 6 and two inside my iPad... When will this stop? And how much will I have to spend on chargers until it does?

Theyve never broken before, I've been an apple customer for years now... And I've spoken to friends that the same happens to, but not as often... so I know it can't be my fault... I could understand if I was a kid ramming it into the charging port... But I'm nearly 20 and i don't think I could be more careful. I took all chargers back and stormfront (the franchise that sells Apple products) agreed it shouldn't be happening but said Apple disagreed their chargers were at all "faulty" and so meaningtwo choices I have to just buy new ones... Or sell my devices and see what Samsung have got which I do not want to do...

  • What's with the new lightning cords??

I've only had my iPhone for a year and I have already gone through 7 chargers. I know many other people that have had the same problem.. I'm so tired of buying new chargers that continue to fail me.

    Then you're choice,
try handling the cables a little more carefully ,as in pulling out at plug not tugging on wire

  • Power adapters and chargers

I'm not quite sure where this question belongs, because it's about most Apple adapters and chargers, not just iPad, so I'm hoping this is correct and I'm not breaking any rules.
    A brief history:
The charger that came with my refurbished iPad is a rectangular shape that fits into the slot on the bottom of the iPad (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA591G/C/apple-30-pin-to-usb-cable?fnode=3a.) When I try to connect this cable via USB to my iMac, it shows grayed out but does nothing.
I also have a power adapter (my second one; one of the prongs came out of the first and stuck in the outlet within a few days of purchase) (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter?fnode=3c) so the way I've been charging the iPad is via these two pieces using direct power (IOW, plugged into the wall outlet).  Yesterday, this method stopped working. I tried a different outlet thinking that could be the problem. Didn't work. Meanwhile, the iPad is draining, down to 17% and no way to recharge until my newly ordered parts arrive. Today the rectangular charge described above fell apart in my hand, wires just fell out.
Today, I tried using my MacBook Pro to charge via USB, at which point the rectangular charge described above fell apart in my hand, wires just fell out. Not only that, the power adapter on the laptop no longer works. (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD836LL/A/apple-12w-usb-power-adapter?fnode=3c). What a surprise. It’s only my fourth one. I've never had one last longer than three months max.
Am I the only one that finds it is typical of Apple’s charging and power accessories to fail within a few months? First, the laptop power adapter fails (all four of  them), then the iPad power adapter, and now the iPad charger. At first, for $19, it wasn't worth making a fuss about...I was more interested in getting the part replaced so I could get back on track. Now, several $19 items later, I'm just getting angry. It doesn't seem like much, just a quick nineteen bucks, until it starts adding up.
I am extremely careful with these fragile pieces of crap. I'm thinking maybe Apple has nice little scam going. Kind of like inkjet printers. The printers seem cheap till you realize how much the ink costs and how often it needs replacing.
I have been a loyal Apple/Mac user since the beginning, so I have no idea if this happens with PCs and don’t really care. I'm not interested in some complicated work-around, assuming there is one. I don't want to have trundle back and forth to the Apple store, either fighting for a refund or buying a replacement. I just want the part to work, regularly, for a long period of time, or is that too much to ask?
I guess what I'm asking is if these failures are typical, and if they are, why isn't there a storm of outrage? I can't believe it's just me.

Well, first of all, I just rechecked the links and the chargers are the ones I've been using with the products described. The one for the iPad is the same as the one that came with the device, and it says in the Product Info that it connects iPhone, iPod and iPad. The one for the MacBook Pro is apparently the wrong link, but that IS what it looks like so you get the idea.
However, according to your response, the mystery continues since you have obviously not had the same frequent failures and yet your use is far "rougher," as in moved around a lot during travel and so forth. Mine were all treated with great delicacy, including the Apple 30-pin to USB cable that fell apart in my hands this morning. I did not describe that clearly. Sorry, I meant the one for the iPad not the MB Pro, but it doesn't change the point that I've had so many of these chargers and connectors fail. I have ordered two new chargers for the iPad. At least I'll have a backup if/when the first one checks out. Guess I'll do the same for the laptop power adapter.
Thanks for letting me know it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem. I guess I'm just lucky that way, ha ha.

  • If my ipod touch 5th generation charger doesn't work anymore and i go back to apple, will they give me a new free charger or will i have to pay for a new one?

Lately my Ipod 5th generatioon charger hasnt been working very well. I wanted to know if this is a problem in where if i go to apple they will give me a new charger in which i need to pay for or will i go to apple and they will give me a new one for free. I've already had to pay for 2 new chargers somewhere else so i really hope someone can give me an honest answer because to be honest i really dont want to pay for a new charger! Hurry please

If this is an Apple charger less than a year old, Apple will replace it under warranty.

  • Disgusted with Apple chargers

I have had my macbook pro since late 2011 (s/n checked) and to date it has had 4 new chargers, all because of the wires fraying, which subsequently leads to power loss. As you know these chargers are not cheap, and retailing at roughly £65, i have spent, very patiently, nearly a quarter of my laptops worth on these chargers.
Too add insult to injury the latest charger is experiencing exactly the same problem, and is currently being held together by electrical tape. Furthermore, my device enjoys a comfortable life on my desk with minimal cable movement, and I have no animals so the excuse of the cable being chewed cannot be used.
Overall, I am furious, and not only that, apple is saying I might have to pay a charge just to get someone to pick up my complaint. I am very near the end of my tether, and am confident this is something trading standards might be interested in, having worked with these and other home devices before. I could have bought a HP or Compaq three years ago, but as a student I shelled out nearly £1000 for a a name of quality, that I really don't think has been justified.
My question to anyone, is how can I get apple to listen, and take some form of action, without having to pay even more money?

There are few channels available to communicate with Apple directly, we are all fellow users on here.  There is the feedback site: http://www.apple.com/feedback and the corporate site: http://www.apple.com/contact and a similar site in the UK but I don't have the address for that one.  Could be just amend UK to the end of the URL.
While there have been users on here with complaints about the fine wires used in the charger cables, most do not see problems if the cables are not twisted or kinked.  Mine has been in use since 2011 without any issues, and I travel a great deal.  While you say you do not abuse the charger system, look at the way the cables are run and see if something can be done in the way of strain relief to ease any twist or stress on the wire that goes to the MacBook Pro - that is where the majority of issues arise.

  • Chargers for 6300 and 2630 keep breaking and i can...

During the last year we have bought 5 nokia phones in our house - two 6300s and three 2630s.  they all have the new type chargers where the pin connector to the phone is very skinny.
we kept having trouble with the phones charging and realised that the pins on the chargers were getting loose, bending and tearing.  At first, before we realised that all the chargers were faulty, we bought 3 more at varying times but they all broke too after 2 or 3 months.
Its not that we handle the phones and chargers roughly - between us we have have about 20 nokia phones over the years with the old type chargers that have thicker connecting pins - and we never had any problems.
We have discovered that lots of other people have the same problem but they thought they just happened to get faulty chargers.
The charger I am using at the moment is starting to give trouble again after only 3 months but this time I won't replace the charger - I'll be buying a new phone - definitely not a Nokia.
The shops where we bought the phones didn't want to know about it although one young assistant said that people were always complaining about them and having to buy new ones!
I e-mailed nokia customer care - and got a phone call back from them weeks later - but basically they said they weren't aware of any problems and they would take my complaint on board - but that was it.  I can't understand why they're still selling these things and getting away with it!
anybody else out there have similar problems?

I have several Nokia Chargers, and none I have, have broken.
The only problems that I have seen with the chargers is:
Abusing the connector, ramming it into the bottom of the handset is not going to do the jack connector any good or the jack itself. Neither will unplugging it by pulling the cable.
The thin oval/flat cable that the newer chargers use is prone to fracturing inside. This causes the "charge" then "Not Charging" problem.
If the connector is failing on so many chargers then you should ask yourself how are they getting like this?
Over the next two years all phone companies have agreed to swap to a standard charging connector, so that they are all interoperable, the connector chosen is a Micro USB port.
If you buy a new Nokia or any other type its highly likely to support charging via this interface.
    Shunts...
