New classic with third part USB pci card

Hi,
Just got a new 120gb classic for my son. But it does not
seem to work with his computer. He has an old g4 tower, with
third part usb 2 card. That worked fine with his 30gb video,
but the new 120gb classic is not even recognised by the system.
It is recognised by my g5, and my older 160gb classic is recognised
by his g4.
My guess is that the current generation of ipod classics
is not compatible with the third party pci usb card. Aarg.
Does anybody know of a cheap usb 2 pci card that will work
with both a g4 and a new "classic" ipod?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
David

I reset parameter ram, updated all the software, and it seems to work fine now.

  • Upgrading the G3 /DT with USB PCI Card for Printer Connection

I would like to connect a Brother MFC-9160 laser printer to one of my Beige G3 /DT with Macintosh OS 9.2.2 installed.
There are two ways to do that: USB or Parallel. I don't know if Parallel adapters for Macintosh are available. This is the reason why I am favouring the solution of PCI USB upgrade.
The problem is that the few USB adapters I saw on sale on various French Mac warehouses were all USB 2.0 compliant, and required a Power Macintosh G3 /BW.
I suppose that a USB 2.0 compliant card is also de facto USB 1.1 compliant, but I am not sure. Besides the hardware issue, there is of course the problem of support on a Beige G3 for USB 1.1.
Could you please elaborate on the hardware which would run on a Beige G3? I am open to any friendly advice
    Frederic W. Erk

By the way I wonder if it would be possible to
connect to the laser printer through electricity
network. No cables, here because the building in 400
years old and too large. Wireless, he he... Not even
    worth speaking about it....
I'm not sure about what kind of electrical wiring you have available over there, or if these kind of products are compatible, but there are some options in the US for using the electrical outlets in a house to create a LAN network. With this kind of network you could use keep the printer on the B&W and turn on USB printer sharing. Printing from OS 9 on the G3 might not work with all printers. That kind of networking equipment is more costly than just adding a USB PCI card to the G3 to use the printer directly, but you might also be able to share a single high-speed internet connection that way. It all depends on what your needs are.
Is this what you were asking about?

  • Suggest USB PCI card for PM 7200/120

    Hi
I want to instal a USB PCI card in a 7200/120. It's running OS 8.6 with Apple USB Support 1.4.1 software. Also have Toast Titanium 5.2 with its Toast USB support extensions loaded. Also tried running OS 9.1 on alternative startup drive with same Apple USB Support 1.4.1 etc.
I've installed a 5 port USB v2 (32-bit host interface compliant to PCI spec release 2.2 and backward compatible with USB 1.1) card from Laser (www.laserco.net). The packaging says it's compatible with Win 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP but no mention of Mac. The 7200 doesn't see the card installed in PCI slot (checking Apple System Profiler). Double-checked to make sure the PCI was securely seated in the slot, tried different slot etc.
I also tried re-installing Apple USB Support v.1.2 on the OS 8.6 volume but still no good.
I'm in Australia and wondered if anyone can recommend a USB card that actually works in the 7200?

    Claudio,
Two years ago, this question was very common. Warnings were given about certain Belkin cards not working well. With the passage of time and the drop in price of newer used systems, few people spend money on upgrading older equipment. It can be done but the beige G3 is the minimum platform that most will work on. Here is a guide to Mac resources in Australia.
    http://www.tandb.com.au/buying/
This site sells a wide array of older Mac products. They offer an interesting list of prior models that they still buy, including 7300 models and IIci models. The 7200 is not on their list of models that are in demand.
    http://resale.headgap.com/
"TRADE-INS OR SELL YOUR OLD MAC
Remember we pay wholesale prices. Many times when you are ready to upgrade your old system may not be worth much, especially to a dealer who is used to buying in quantity at wholesale prices and has the units shipped in bulk truck freight. Boxing and shipping your old system costs a few dollars. Here lately we have been having more trouble locating older systems people are still buying. We will begin offering trade-ins or to buy outright certain older systems. The following are on the list: PowerMac G4, iMac G4, QuickSilver G4, Blue & White (REV 2 Only), G3 Desktops, PowerMac 7300, Quadra or Centris 650, and Mac IICI's and SI's. The units need to be cosmetically in good condition and working (at least chiming). Trade in value will vary from the top wholesale price for extra clean, that exceed stock configurations and down for less that prime units. We are also purchasing good used Apple Desktop Bus Mouse II ADB Mice, working StyleWriters, and SCSI Zip Drives."
Hope this helps. My experience with buying USB cards for Macs convinced me to only buy cards that are already installed in a working used Mac. The Mac costs $15 US and the card is free. I realize that your market is somewhat different. However, if it is hard to find a working card here, it will be even harder there.
Take note, even Headgap does not want Rev. 1 Blue and White Macs. Avoid them if you have a choice.
This company has iMacs for under $200 in Australia. That may be high and it may not be a current price.
    http://www.newwavesystems.com.au/pre-owned_imac.html
They also show a PowerMac G4/400MHz for $150 Australian here:
    http://www.newwavesystems.com.au/pre-owned_powermac.html
That would be money well spent compared to any upgrades to a 7200. Otherwise, find a recycler who knows a thing or two about Macs and wait for them to come across the right card for you.

  • Creative WebCam Vista Plus on USB PCI Card (VIA VT 6212) on Windows ME - doesnt work !!

PC turns off when the Vista Plus WebCam is connected to the USB port on my USB PCI Card
I use a primitive Intel Celeron 300Mhz processor with 64MB RAM on an Intel 440BX-AT Chipset running on Window ME. I recently installed a USB PCI Card (based on the VIA VT 622 chipset) which is a 394/USB 2.0 Combo. The problem is my 'Creative WebCam Vista Plus' doesnt work with it.
After I had installed the drivers on the 'Creative WebCam Vista Plus' CD - that is - without connecting the webcam to my USB PCI card the installation asks me to connect the webcam to the USB port and When I do that the PC just GOES OFF !
It starts up only in SAFE MODE and each time I've got to restore my PC.
How do I get the WebCam connected to my PC ?
    Thanks in advance

9hours later and Ive given up. I cant get the Vista 64 Ultimate to work with the Audigy 2Nx usb sound card. Im very angry and very frustrated (not to mention very tired from the 2 late nights Ive spent trying to work it out). Im not a PC-noob, but am only 4days into my Vista ownership................... Im guessing now, after much research, that there will never be a driver that gets these units to work with Vista 64bit. thats pretty weak Creative. However, I dont want to use crappy onboard sound for my gaming. What is the suggestion?Should I be looking at returning this unit, and buying either the X-Fi Xtremegamer?Fatality Pro as?a highend device, or the X-Fi Xtremegamer for $00 less? Or should I be looking at another manufacturer. Would either of these x-fi gamers work with Vista 64bit Ultimate?suggestions please?

  • How to develop dll towards VB and Delphi for vi's of a third-part usb device

    Hello, dear lv'ers:
Recently i am evolved in a project where i want to reuse my developed ac measurement modules (certainly in .vi format) in target computers. The related information has been collected below:
    0) Develope machine: win7, lv2010 sp1 development suite bought last year, third-part usb devices (Rigol DG1022 for instance, recognized in MAX as USB0::0x0957::0x0407::MY44012174::INSTR), ac measurement vi's with VISA function calling.
    1) Target computer A: MultiVu for squid vsm from QD(quantum design) bought in 2009, allowing third-part extension script written in visual basic .bas format. MAX was installed by QD, but our third-part usb devices could unfortunately not be recognized and assigned a visa resource name.
    2) Target computer B: MultiVu for squid-xl from QD bought 2007, allowing third-part extension script writen in Delphi .dpr format. Its MAX has the same problem.
i have got familiar with extending such two MultiVu's for dc measurement based on Keithley 2400 & 2182, successfully using VB and Delphi, respectively.  Such dc module has nothing to do with labview and has already installed with GPIB interface in MAX.
i have already overviewed some related posts here for dll building for VB and Delphi, and i could build my hellow-world dll for vb(simply following reversstring one in ni knowledgebase). However, at the moment, my main concerning is how to build dll's installation package for our two target computers, so that they can use the third-part usb devices as in my development machine?
Your answers, direct or indirectly, would be quite appreciated.

Probably, i have just got a solution for this problem.
The way seems  quite simple: what i need to do, before importing dll or exe files, is installing a VISA  4.0 (http://download.ni.com/support/softlib/visa/NI-VISA/4.0/win32/visa400full.exe) in target computers, which can communicate fine with our devices.
Afterwards, you know, everthing goes ok as does in the development computer.
When i got further problems, i shall return here. :-).

  • Using a lan/hpib gateway (Agilent) with a NI GPIB pci card

Need to be able to use a E2050 lan/hp-ib gateway (Agilent) together with a NI GPIB pci card on the same workstation (windows). I need 2 seperate gpib busses but also need the remote functionality or the lan/hpib box. I would use ni enet but it will not work together with a installed gpib card, only one or the other. Read information on useing an hp card with a ni card in the same system but cannot get it to work with the lan box. I do not have a hp card to install in my computer to see if that works or not. Has anyone attempted a similar task?

    Hello-
It is possible to use a PCI and ENET board in Windows 9X/ME. The solution for Windows NT/2000 is to use the new VISA server technology using two computers.
    Computer A:
This is a computer that will not use a GPIB plug-in board, but is on the network. Install the GPIB-ENET/100 driver and VISA 2.6. Then, set the appropriate VISA server permissions and run VISAServer.exe (see the VISA Programmer's Reference for more details ni.com/manuals).
    Computer B:
Install the PCI-GPIB driver and VISA 2.6. Use Remote VISA to access the ENET/100 through the other computer's driver.
This is also a very useful technology for remotely controlling numerous instruments throughout a distributed laboratory.

after, i did a "TesteDll.jar" to use these methods in another applicattions.
everything was fine until there. so created a single program like this:

    short r = td.P1602_ActiveBoard((short)0); // ativa a placa

    /* ->error here!*/ wRetVal += td.P1602_SaveScan((short)1,wV2);

  • Iogear USB PCI Card

Hello, after doing some searching here in the Apple Discussions, I bought an Iogear GIC251U USB PCI card to put in my Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5. I made sure it had an NEC chip. Works fine until I put the it to sleep. It will not wake up and has to be forced shut down via power button. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

I usually start by looking at OWC and Sonnet brand, then check with AccelerateYourMac. You already have 10.4.x so that helps.

Can anyone recommend a good USB PCIe card that is known to work well with the mac. So far I have found several recommendations for a Sonnett Alegro card.

  • Drivers for Belkin F5U220 USB PCI card

I am trying to install Belkin F5U220 USB PCI card into my G4. There are no drivers on the CD or Belkin's website. After installation, I connection Apple mouse. The mouse indicator was lit. But does not work. Where can I get drivers for this PCI card ? I read several posts here that this card worked on many systems. Wondering how it worked... Appreciate any help.

The drivers are built into the operating system.
Does the card appear in your system profiler?
When I plugged in my usb 2 card it just worked. From time to time I had to reset the pmu to get things reset properly but it has been 2 times in 2 years. (lots of 2's in my post, huh?)
Apple seems to have removed the link to the reset of the pmu so I'll give a readers digest.
    Open the mac
Touch the power supply case to ground yourself
Remove the battery and check the voltage (3.6V)
Press the pmu button (3/8"square box with a bb size button in the center). Hold it down for a 3 count. Don't press it more than one time or you will mess things up
    Replace the battery
Restart the mac with the usb2 card in it.
    See if that helps

  • Apps Secretly Sharing Personal Data With Third Parties--

just read this article on the huffingtonpost.com
how can i tell who is obtaining persoanl data without telling me ?
are there supposed to be safeguards against this ?
*what can i do to prevent this ?*
*Apps Secretly Sharing Personal Data With Third Parties--Without Telling You*
    JORDAN ROBERTSON | 07/28/10 10:40 PM | AP
LAS VEGAS — Your smart phone applications are watching you – much more closely than you might like.
Lookout Inc., a mobile-phone security firm, scanned nearly 300,000 free applications for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and phones built around Google Inc.'s Android software. It found that many of them secretly pull sensitive data off users' phones and ship them off to third parties without notification.
That's a major concern that has been bubbling up in privacy and security circles.
The data can include full details about users' contacts, their pictures, text messages and Internet and search histories. The third parties can include advertisers and companies that analyze data on users.
The information is used by companies to target ads and learn more about their users. The danger, though, is that the data become vulnerable to hacking and use in identity theft if the third party isn't careful about securing the information.
Lookout reported its findings this week in conjunction with the Black Hat computer security conference in Las Vegas.
Lookout found that nearly a quarter of the iPhone apps and almost half the Android apps contained software code that contained those capabilities.
The code had been written by the third parties and inserted into the applications by the developers, usually for a specific purpose, such as allowing the applications to run ads. But the code winds up forcing the application to collect more data on users than even the developers may realize, Lookout executives said.
"We found that not only users, but developers as well, don't know what's happening in their apps, even in their own apps, which is fascinating," said John Hering, CEO of the San Francisco-based Lookout.
Part of the problem is smart phones don't alert users to all the different types of data the applications running on them are collecting. IPhones only alert users when applications want to use their locations.
And while Android phones offer robust warnings when applications are first installed, many people breeze through them for the gratification of using the apps quickly. Google said it tries to limit users' risk with the warnings but consistently advises users to only install apps they trust.
Apple didn't respond to a request for comment on Lookout's research.

The best way to handle this, depending on the app, is to turn off things like sharing on the world wide boards. (This can often be done in settings, although you may have to do so in app.)
Also--and this may sound a bit lame--choose your apps (especially free ones) carefully. There are a whole range of games that all track certain info bits. I have a few of those, but have have turned off that part of it.
Finally...the same things go for apps as with any program for your computer: use common sense.

  • Which firewire/usb pci cards are VERIFIED to work with a G5 2.7 Ghz?

I have a Powermac g5 2.7 Ghz, and need to add a firewire/usb combo card for the external peripherals I have.

I have seen various brands advertised, but sure which ones will ACTUALLY work.
I am having trouble finding any information here about a firewire/usb combo card that has actually been verified to work.

  • 3rd party USB PCI card and Leopard

I installed a USB 2.0 Compusa Card in my Dual 867 Mac several Years ago, to get USB 2.0 speeds when i got a new Ipod. When 10.4, most t=of the time, early versions not included, I was unable to put the card computer to sleep and then be able to revive it. Leopard fixed that problem, but now the card is losing ports. It is a four port card, and the currently the two inner most ports are not working. The two outer ports are still working. I have had since prior to installing 10.5 my Iphone, Dock, A USB external Drive, for time machine, A USB hub, and my Keyboard attached to the USB 2.0 card. Now the drive disappeared and I am unable to retrieve. Anyone else having this Problem, has anyone had this problem and resolved it. Any help would be appreciated. I am contemplating a New PCI USb 2.0 card, but Not sure if it is the card or Leopard, as i have not had a any problems until 10.5 and 10.5.1 installations.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello.
I have a G4 Dual 1.42GHz (FW800) and an USB 2.0 PCI card (VIA chipset) and it also worked very fine under Tiger. Since this card is sold for the PC market it doesn't bring a driver for Mac OS X.
I went to the VIA site (http://www.via.com.tw/), there I could found they have another site with drivers for almost any OS. This is the address: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2
Click on the Mac OS choice in the list and then in USB to get the driver. The driver version is 1.60 and it supports G4 systems ONLY and OS versions: MAC OS X 10.2.x, MAC OS X 10.3.x, MAC OS X 10.4.x. Nothing is said about MAC OS 10.5.x.
Unfortunately it doesn't work in my G4 with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). I also tried to use the USB 2.0 PCI card before installing the driver to see if Apple could have done a driver of its own, but it also didn't work.
If your card has a VIA chipset I recommend you write an e-mail to VIA Technologies, Inc. and tell your problem and ask for the update. I did it too.
I hope they can work it out soon.
