New Collection from links/images in current document - is this possible?

Our team includes PC and Mac users.
We have CS5.5 - InDesign v7.5.3
I'm currently running Win7
This might be a post for the Bridge forum, but since we want the workflow to begin with InDesign...
I did try searching here, there, and within Exchange forums.
What we'd like to be able to do is open a document in InDesign that has dozens of links, and by some magical autmotaed (or even manual) process, be able to create a collection - not a snippet - of the linked files. I've tried several ways to get this to happen both from within ID and Bridge, no luck.
Is there a way?
Maybe a script?

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't want to package or export linked images using the "Copy Links to..." option from the links panel. What either of those options would do would in fact create copies of the images.
Instead, I want to maintain their original locations, maintain links, etc..
So, by the term "collection" in my question what I meant to say is a Bridge Collection (as seen in Bridge or in the Mini Bridge panel). I want to generate such a collection from the items I choose that already are placed within an InDesign document. I've attempted selecting from the Links Panel in ID, selecting from the document itself and dragging in to a pre-existing collection, but this seems to only result in an InDesign Snippet file. I checked contextual menus and panel menus. I also tried the drag operation with various modifier keys just hoping. No luck.
I'm thinking there should be a script or plugin for this... but alas have not found it.

I can't open new tabs from links in a site, while it is possible from chrome.

In this site http://www.thepressproject.gr/ I can't open the links in new tabs, while for the same site using chrome I can. When I right click on the link, i don't have the usual options (open in new tab, open in new window, bookmark etc.). That is a really strange issue. I've never heard of it before nor can I figure out how to fix it. What I'd recommend doing is disabling all your add-ons to see if that fixes the problem. If it does, one of your add-ons is causing the issue. If it doesn't, try [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|starting Firefox is Safe Mode]] to see if the issue disappears. If the problem doesn't happen in Safe Mode, it's a problem with something that runs in Firefox when you start it normally (could be settings, plug-ins, add-ons, etc). If you can't figure out what is causing the problem in Safe Mode or you know the problem but can't solve it, the easiest thing to do is to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset Firefox]] or completely reinstall Firefox, described below:

I am using a mac - OSX 10.7.5
I have Adobe Creative Suites - CS5 - Illustrator version is 15.0.2
The contents I am placing are all Vector - Illustrator files
I used 'simple' linear (line) drawings from SolidWorks that have been converted to ai files. It's just weird because I checked the stroke of the drawing and it's not out of line (stroke is about .5 pts). I also made some of the labels in the examples below earlier and they didn't exhibit the 'larger stroke images'. Perhaps I clicked on something in the Preferences or some other place that caused my problem?
I am attaching part of some box labels. You can see how the drawings, of the products, on the 'left side' are "thick" (strokes have grown) after embedding them. I think the "Global Logo" was pasted into a template that was not linked and embedded - that's why it's okay. But look at the Quiet Thunder logo - it looks terrible. These labels are only 2.25" X 6.5", so its important I keep the images lightweight.

If you did not create this swf yourself then you won't be able to do what I am suggesting. If you did, then open the fla in Flash and go into the Publish Settings and select the option to publish an html file as an output. That will create an html page that embeds the Flash file. Test that file in your browser and see if it plays properly. IF so, then copy that code in place of whatever Dreamweaver did to embed the Flash.
Dreamweaver is not a reliable tool for embedding Flash content... why it does not do it the same way Flash does it is anyone's guess.

There are no contacts in itunes.
Your contact should be on your computer in whatever program you have selected to sync. Just sync them to the new one.

Emailing persistent link to the current document version.

I did not find a suitable answer by searching previous posts.
We are working on a document transmittal workflow. This will email to a user, links to documents stored in a SharePoint document library. A requirement is to use out of the box features.
If the document is an old version I use the link format
http://site/_vti_history/UIVersion/Document Library/doc.doc. This works well as it always points to that version of the document.
However the above format does not work when referencing the current version of the document, even if I know the document UIversion to plug into the above URL. The link has to be
http://site/Version/Document Library/doc.doc
The problem is when a link to the current version of the document is emailed and then the document is changed in SharePoint.
The email will no longer point to the version intended but rather the ‘new’ latest version. I need the link to open the correct document version.
What I need is a persistent link to any version of a document whether the current version or an old one and to generate that at the time the email is created.
However I cannot see a way to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
Our current work around is to clone the document to artificially create an old version which can then be referenced. However this is not desirable.

I'm afriad that it is impossible to modify the current document url(canonical path) to the last history version document url(revision path) in the workflow mail has been sent after the new current document(canonical path) generates.
The canonical path document will always points to the lastest current version document, the persistent link of revision path document will only be available after the newer current canonical path document generates, and the revision path in workflow
mail will not be available for the curent document item, this is how SharePoint version history works, you can read the following article.
As a workaround, you may clone the document as you have done, or you may send the all the current version document information and the current document attachment in workflow mail as a snapshot for that time of triggering the workflow.

Creating a print button to print a page from another document - is this possible?

My company is designing an interactive pdf with indesign with some great navigation on a side-bar. We've made the dimensions of the navigation pages larger than 8.5 x 11. We are constructing a pdf portfolio that contains a printable version of this document and this interactive version. Would it be possible to have a print button in the interactive document that calls up the corresponding page in the printable document and send it to the printer?

Flash Catalyst does not directly support printing. You are going to have to add that functionality via Flash Builder and writing ActionScripting. I have not worked with the printing capabilities in Flex, so there is not a lot I can offer past this in terms of advice.I would suggest browsing the Flex forums for some guidance on how to assemble your state for the printer.

Linking to new page from BLOB image in report

Hi Guys,
I have added an image to my report using the number/Date format field IMAGE:CITIES:CTY_PHOTO:CTY_NR::::::inline:Download. This works great! :)
I know want the user to click on the image and go to the next page, setting the city code that was selected.
If I try to add the Column Link Link Text in the usual way I get an error:
report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
Any ideas?

Hello, I am excited to use the slideshow for the first time now.
I have an issue, I want to link each image to an internal page inside the website. How can I do this if the link element points to the thumbnail. I am not using the thumbnails by the way.

I have the same problem, I would like to link the large image in the slideshow to a web page. Basically, when the someone clicks on the large image it should go to a web page. I was trying to understand your comment, but did not fully understand. Can you explain futher or suggest how the code would look like with an activated link. Linking images within a document?

Hi,
I'm laying out a photographic book with a visual index at the end containing thumbnails and
captions for each photograph in the book.
Is there a way to link the thumbnails to the images, so that if I change the photo it updates the thumbnail?
If so, is there also a way to input text linked to each photo, so that if the thumbnail changes the text also changes?

Say you have one full size image and a corresponding thumbnail. You want to replace both. A few scenarios:
1. You have the same image placed twice, for the thumbnail the image is scaled down in InDesign. In the Links panel the image will show double placement. Click on the top name, relink to the new image. Both will update.
2. You have the same image placed twice, for the thumbnail the image is scaled down in InDesign. Save and replace the old images in Photoshop. The links come up modified in InDesign, just update. Note: You might want to keep copies of the old images if you ever need them again.
3. You have two versions of the same picture, one large and one small, placed in InDesign. Actually the better option for image clarity, but it's very important to establish a good naming convention for your images. Personally I would not use the same name for the large and small images, it would be confusing. You can re-link to the new images one at a time, or you can save and replace the old in Photoshop and update in InDesign.

For the index I would first select the thumbnail and the caption. Group. Copy. Now create a master text box and paste. The image and caption now behave as a large text character. This keeps them together, they flow like text.
In the event you change the image and the text needs to change in two places, use Find/Change. As long as the text reads the same in the index and the body text, Find/Change will replace both at the same time.

No back button after opeing new tab from link

If I’m viewing a site like Craigslist and click on a new link, it opens that link on the same page and all is well. If I do a Google search and click on a link from that page, a NEW TAB opens to view that page. However, the back button is gray and won’t let me use it. I have to close the new tab in order to get back to my original search page.
I’ve read many posts on this for the last TWO HOURS and finally gave up. I don’t believe I have Mcafee or site advisor so I don’t think that’s the problem. But obviously I’m not smart enough to figure this out so maybe I do have it. ARG

Each tab has its own history, there is no way to "go back" in a "new tab" to the history of the "parent tab".
Google specifically has its own user setting for whether a hyperlink opens in the same tab or a new tab. I suspect that if you clear your Google cookies in Firefox that will change your Google prefs saved in that cookie to opening hyperlinks in the same tab.

New Catalogue from selected images in other Catalogues

Hi Guys,
I have several Catalogues in Lightroom 2.5. I would like to select several images from each Catalogue and put them into a new Catalogue.
The reason – In each Catalogue I have flagged the images that I want to print. I want to create a new Catalogue with only the flagged images from the other Catalogues in order to do a contact print or multi images on one sheet of paper.
I know that I could create one Master Catalogue, select the flagged images and then print but I would like to just have a Print Catalogue that I could add images to, from other Catalogues.
Its there a way to do this ?

In each catalogue, select the images and select File > Export as Catalogue. When you're finished, create a new catalogue, and then use File > Import as Catalog for each of the exported ones.
When you're finished doing all this, do put some time aside to think what else you could have done with all the time you've just used up. With a single master catalogue, you would already have been admiring your prints and having a coffee, with your feet up on the desk too.
