New comer to DVD Studio

I just recently started messing with DVD studio and have found that the resolution/quality of the images change dramatically when imported in as the background. As a graphic designer, who typically works in print, I'm used to CMYK. I'm sure it has something to do with RGB and making it a true RGB image, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is there a way that I can create a background in photoshop or illustrator and import it in to DVD studio without having a fuzzy, low quality result? I just want it to look professional ... ;(

Welcome to the family. .
If you want professional results, you will need much more information and training than Apple offers with the package but you need to do those tutorials, probably two or three times.
Invest in the two or three books designed specifically for DVDSP4.
You've got to let go of almost everything you know about print: resolution, DPI, white paper, and especially CMYK. Video is RGB. DPI is meaningless in video, there are only pixels, and there's a finite number of them. And MPEG2 totally blows.

Adding a 2nd subtitle track to new timeline in DVD Studio Pro

I have made a video with English subtitles in FCP and Using DVD Studio Pro. Now it is time to add spanish subtitles and also enter redited timeline. I haven't managed to find a way to import the english subtitle track into a new project, or export it over to a new project. Apple training program for DVDSP has no guidance. Anyone know how to avoid having to renter manually english subtitles? Thanks, Laura

The subtitles are made in DVD Studio Pro, not FCP Pro. It is easy to add a 2nd subtitle track to an existing project. What I need to do is have a NEW project so I can use my NEW re-edited timeline. The question is how do i copy/import/export my english track that is already in a .dspproj file, so I can use it in a new project (it is a new timeline) to create a new edition of my dvd. Again, the subtitles are not in FCP. Is there really no way to use the english subtitles already created in DVD STU Pro. As I said, there are no istructions in the help manual, nor are there in the Apple DVD Studio Pro training book/dvd.

No New Templates In DVD Studio 4.

I upgraded from DVD Studio Pro 3.0 to 4.0 and I didn't get any new templates. I know it was trying to load them, but it doesn't appear to have. I tried several times, including just loading the content...and only 4.0 at that.
I've downloaded the ProKit 3.1 for Tiger which at least allowed me to USE DVD Studio Pro 4.0, but I can't figure out how to access the new templates.
When I install, it hangs for 3-4 minutes at 98% loaded before it begins loading the 4.0 Templates.
I only had Virex on my system which I removed once I upgraded to Tiger?
Anyone have any suggestions?

They only new templates are high definition.

I recently installed os leopard on my power MAC G5 and my DVD studio pro 3 application is not working properly as it used to be. I was unable to create motion menu and build the dvd properly. Then I deleted and reinstall dvd studio pro 3, but it did not solve the problems. What should I do?

I have a sneaking suspicion it won't work in 10.5.x, possibly because of the version of Quicktime...

I think your going to need a dual boot Mac with 10.4.x on another drive or partition.

Adding new transitions to DVD studio pro

I am trying to make adjustments to existing DVDSP alpha transitions. We like the transitions, but would like the option of changing the colors in some of the videos. For example, the "Satin Blue" transition, we would like to be able to make true red, not that crappy red color of "Satin Red."
I saw that if you convert a .dsptransition file to .mov, you get a folder of all the contents, including the original video file. Is there a way to make changes to this file, rename the folder back to .dsptransition, and then have DVDSP recognize it as a standard transition in the menu? I assumed that upon loading the program, it would search all the support folders for changes and update menus accordingly, but apparently this is not the case.

But the transitions are still not showing up in the DVDSP transition menu. The above instructions are for DVDSP3 while I'm using DVDSP4. But I wouldn't think that would be a huge deal.

Moving an image around in a drop zone in DVD studio

Hi there
I am pretty new to this DVD studio program, and I often am using templates to make my client DVDs. One major major problem I always come across is when I have to drop images in, they always dont fit properly, let me show you one for example

This always happens when I drop images in Final cut. Is there a way I can move my Image around that box?

if you click on a corner handle of the drop zone then press shift and drag the corner outwards, the drop zone will snap fit to match the format ratio of the image revealing the complete image
the reason you wont be able to move the image sideways is that there wont be any image to reveal-if the image is a different ratio to the drop zone, the image will fit inside the drop zone either by hieght or width
if the drope zones dont provide what you want-its very simple to create your own in a graphics application

Multiple Audio streams in dvd studio pro

Hi To keep it short, I have been providing clients with surround sound formats, Dolby ac3 & DTS .cpt   that are burned to their video projects.
   Now I would like to burn my own movies using DVD studio.
I can burn a disc with ac3 or .cpt no problem. I would like to include audio playback options selectable in the menu's of my discs for DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1.
    I am a new user of DVD Studio & would greatly appreciate any help or links to information that would help me with this task.

DVD SP is an authoring program, not an editing/compositing arena.
You need to go back to your NLE or an audio program to do this.

DVD Studio Pro 2.0.5 and Tiger 10.4.2

I'm getting frequent crashes of DVDSP using the above program and operating system. My crash and system logs tell me that the program is using "an obsolete library which will be deleted in future releases of Tiger".

I dont use DVDSP enough to warrant paying for the upgrade to 4 and I doubt at this point that Apple are likely to offer a solution as I've already upgraded to the last release of DVDSP 2 and ProKit 3.1 and they'll probably just want me to pay the $200 for the upgrade.

I installed DSP-2 on my G4 (AGP graphics) running Tiger (10.4.11) and runs fine (albeit slower).
It must be a hardware issue between the G5 and G4.

DVD Studio Pro 4 - Warning Red & White Checkerboard

I am new to using DVD Studio Pro and I have a problem in that a red and white checkerboard appears in the middle of my video track and chapters. It must be a warning but I cannot find any reference to it. maybe I have a setting wrong or something. Any ideas?

OK - let's go a step at a time...
Create a new project, add the template to the menu and at least a .pict file to track one, but don't connect the menu and track... and do nothing else. Build that and open it with DVDPlayer. Does the menu show as it should?
If so, add the drop zone items, build that and open it with DVDPlayer... is it still showing?
If so, add the proper track assets and connect a menu button to the track... build and check again.
By using a process of elimination you should find the problem.
Using the same project and simply deleting the assets from the menu may not give you the result, unless you also delete the PAR folders that DVDSP has created (look in the folder where the assets are - or in the MPEG folder that DVDSP creates... they'll be around there somewhere unless you have changed the location in your preferences 'Destinations' settings).

DVD Studio Pro no longer works with the new iMac. Solutions?

Disc installations in general don't exist anymore and DVD Studio Pro is no longer supported in the new iMac that we have at our office. I used to have Roxio's Toast Titanium as a backup burner, but even that is not supported past mac OS 10.7. Final Cut X has the option to export straight to DVD but the menu options it gives you is so basic it doesn't even look professional. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they are using now to burn a professional looking DVD. Many thanks

I'm considering myself lucky... Though I was unable to install either DVDSP and FCP v.6 on my new iMac, they are both still working on my older iMac even though it too is running ML. I believe this is because I upgraded to ML from Leopard with both already installed.
My only suggestion would be to install Leopard (or the OS on which they were working for you), install FCP, DVDSP and compressor, and then upgrade to ML. Seems like a silly solution but I have a feeling it would work. I'm not doing it because it's working on the iMac that's closest to my DVD duplicator. That said, if I had to, I believe that's what I'd try.
Really infuriates me. My business depends on DVD sales and there really isn't another cost effective DVD authoring solution for the mac out there.
I do wish you the best of luck and would love to hear if you come up with a better solution.

How can I reinstall Motion/DVD Studio Pro using my new serial no.

I used to have my office copy of Motion on my computer. Now that I got my own I want to reinstall it. But whenever I did that I still have the same Motion/DVD Studio Pro as was installed with the older serial no.
How can I get rip of this old serial no so I can use my new serial no?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Problems downloading the new DVD Studio Pro update.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem/message when trying to download the new DVDSP update?;
'You appear to have already downloaded the DVD Studio Pro update.'
This also happened on the last updates that were released.
There is a workaround that I know of that I had to use last time but it seems strange that this is occuring. Has anyone else had any issues with this update (or the last for that matter)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Apple Tech would not help me because I am on a Volume Licence and the Apple Store that I purchased it through has not given me any help.

I can get around this problem by using software update to download the updates and then use the downloaded file to update the machines but I would really like the ability to download the updates as a standalone dmg file.
I am running 20 systems on an airport network that will freeze up if I do the updates online the best i can do is 3 at once to avoid serious lag.
Being able to download them seperately was always my first choice so i could update the machines regardless of being conected to the net or not. The workaround that I am using only downloads the package file and it seems there is the possibility of them being corrupted or damaged over time (moving from server to drives to media to computers etc).
I still want to know why it thinks I have downloaded them already, it doesn't make any sense.

How to install DVD Studio Pro 2 on new machine?

How do in install DVD Studio Pro 2 onto new machine when PowerPC applications are no longer supported in OSX 10.7.4? I have the original disc which i bought a few years ago but can not install it! Help please.

DVD Studio Pro 2 was released on August 6, 2003.
It won't run on a recent Mac (Intel).
There is absolutely no way to install and run it on a modern Mac.

While installing the new final cut, it didn't want to install dvd studio

I have the previous version of final cut, and installed the new studio (note I first bought final cut when all the apps came seperatly.) The question I have is, is there any diference in tghe new dvd studio pro than in the previous fcs bundle? It didn't have a check when it asked which apps to add, so I didn't, also after that I thought that apple had to have added some new templates ect?....does anyone know if there is a difference, and if there is, why didn't it auto upgrade like the rest...thank you

Look into the License Manager in the National Instruments folder of your Start menu. It is probably just a matter of activating LabVIEW 8.6 and possibly some other features with your new license code instead of your previous full version license code.

There's a difference between a data DVD, and a DVD-Video. I believe you made a data DVD, which can't be played in a video player. The Burn feature of the Finder can't author a DVD-V, just data discs.
I assume you made a Project, and put clips from your Event Library into the Project. But then, how did you output your Project, using the SHARE menu?
When I pull down iMovie '11s SHARE menu, "iDVD..." is one of the options. It's the job of iDVD to make the menu that appears when you insert a DVD into your player (that says the title, and chapters, and extras, etc.). You need software that will made a DVD-V disc. Lacking that, you might be able to go to Share/Export Movie... or Share/Export using QuickTime... to get your video into a format that software like Roxio's Toast could burn.
