New computer, 20G iPod. How do I update iTunes library?
Got a new computer (old computer crashed, lost data) and I already have a 20G iPod full of music. I downloaded iTunes and plugged in my iPod. A message comes up that says "The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library, do you want to change the link to this iTunes library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?". I assume this means if I click "no" and the music stays on my iPod but doesn't import into the library. If I click "yes", will it erase my iPod music????? I don't know what to do because I'm afraid it will erase the music on my iPod... help!
Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.
If your backup drive/disks were stolen as well, then:

New computer/old ipod - how do I update my libray from my ipod?
new computer/old ipod - how do I update my libray from my ipod? the music wasn't transfered from cd's, shared music files...no purchased from the ipod store.
The ipod is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything on your new computer. -

New computer, full ipod-how to get it all transferred?
I have a new computer. I authorized it, and tried to transfer everything from my ipod-music, movies, tv shows. It didn't happen. Do I need to re-connect to my old computer, do the "use the ipod as a hard drive" thing, and transfer that way?Or is there a way not to have to hook the old computer up again, just to unload the ipod as it is? I'm lost.
Easiest thing to do is hook up old computer and transfer files from it to the new one. Or just take hard drive out of old computer, put it in new computer.

New computer, old iPod, how to add songs
my computer died recently, so i got a new one and subsequently installed iTunes on it. now i got a new cd and put it into the iTunes. but i'm trying to get these songs into my iPod, but it wants to replace the "library" on my iPod that has ALL my music in it, with this new "library" that's only got these 11 songs. obviously i don't want to delete everything on my iPod. i just want to add new stuff to my iPod. help please.
You can only have one iTunes library synced a device at a time. It will see the new computer as a new iTunes library. Unfortunately, in order to sync with the new computer you will have to "erase and sync" so the iPod will be formatted to work with the new computer.

I repeatedly receive an error message when trying to sync my ipod touch with my itunes library with my new computer which reads, "Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the ipod because you are not authorized on this computer." However when I try and authorize my computer I always receive the message that this computer is authorized. What am I doing wrong? I'm missing about 100 songs as a result of this error!!

How/can I update itunes library from ipod
I had a previous version of iTunes on a work PC, which I had copied my entire CD collection onto. I have since moved companies and hence lost the laptop. I(maybe stupidly) assumed that I could update the iTunes library from the iPod.
Having searched the support pages, the only way that I can tell to do this was to export the library in the first place, which I did not do. Also iTunes seems to want to delete everything from my iPod everytime I try to do anything?!?
I really want to avoid spending every evening for another week downloading all the albums again, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks
MarkIf you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended (as previously mentioned) is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. -
Have set up homesharing but am still unable to see library on secondary computer?? what am I doing wrong?
The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

I have a new computer and I want to transfer my Itunes library
I am currently running my Itunes library on a Windows XP computer. I just got a new PC Notebook that is running Windows Vista. How do I transfer my complete Itunes library on my old computer to my new computer?
Welcome to the discussions,
here's how to back up iTunes and restore it on your new computer:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382
To transfer your ipod data back up manually after authorizing the new iTunes and transfer your purchases as well.
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your iPod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

New computer-keep getting iphone synched with another itunes library
So here's the situation.
I got a new computer the other day and put Itunes on it. I hooked my iphone up to it and authorized my new computer. Seemed like everything was fine, that was until I went into devices and clicked on music. I then went to synch music and then hit apply and get the whole "the device is synched with another itunes/library, do you want to erase the iphone and synch with this itunes library.
I still have my old computer (Which is in pieces on the floor) and realized today that I didn't deauthorize it. Am I in trouble here?As far as your iPhone is concerned, it is a new iTunes Library. Let it go thru it's steps (including making a backup and restoring from the backup) and all should be fine.
You can authorize up to 5 computers, so you are fine if you're under this limit. When you do reach it, you can deauthorise all computers (even without having access to them), then authorize the one you are using. So you are not in trouble here, either.

Help! My old computer crashed, and I have a bunch of music that I don't have on cd any longer, is there anyway to move the library I have on my iPhone now to my new computer I just bought?
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music and contents, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

How to migrate a Itunes library?
Hi all!
I got a new computer (yay!), and i migrate my itunes library on this computer but, all my music links are broken :S. I tried to modify it with the Itunes Music Library.xml but without success .
How we can migrate the library?
Thanks
Greatmango to window's explorer. do tools -> folder options -> view. check the button that says "show hidden files and folders".
then plug in your ipod and it should show up in window's explorer as like another harddrive. double click on it and go to "ipod_control" then to "music"
copy everything in that folder (there will probably be a few subfolders in there) into a seperate folder on your desktop (make a new one and call it "my music" or something easy to remember) Make sure all of the files are in one single folder, not a bunch of sub-folders like you originally found them. Their names will be very scrambled and unrecognizable but no worries on it for now.
then, open up itunes and make sure your library is blank. if it is, go to Edit -> Preferences. In the advanced tab go to the "general" sub-tab and select the folder where you just put all of your files (the "my music" or whatever you happened to title it)
then make sure the box that says "keep itunes music folder organized" and click ok and exit out.
Then, in itunes, click "file" then "add folder to library". Select the folder where you put all of the music files earlier. iTunes will then unscramble the names of all of the files for you and add them to your library. Then you'll have all of the music from your ipod in your library and they will also be on your computer so you won't get "file not found" messages
make sure you uncheck "show hidden files and folders" after you're all done. -
