New computer core I7 950

Hi!
I am just going to config. a new computer for editing HD and AVCHD videos. I bought a new videocamera, a Canon Legria HF 200 recently, and it`s not possible to edit HD and AVCHD on my old computers. I am planning to run Win.7 64 bit and Prem.El.8+Photoshop El.8. Is there anyone that can tell me if this is a good config. for my purpose? I also have some qustions
about setting up my 4 Samsung Spinpoints. I have tried to read as much as possible but my english is not so good and I am just an computeramateur so there are som things I don`t understand. Sometimes people says "editing" and sometimes they say "rendering", is this the same? Then I don`t know if I should use Raid or singel disks. If Raid, Raid 0 on 2 disks or Raid 5 on all 4 disks,(not the ssd). For safe I will have an ext.disk for backup. Is this a good setup?

I gave you my opinion on Raid 0 in my above post.
Regarding Raid 5, it is really a matter of personal preference. If you are good at doing regular backups of data, and at least one timely backup of a complete Drive Image, then Raid 5 might not be your cup of tea.
Here is some additional technical details on a Raid 5 configuration from Intel Tech Support:
(One key statement below is that Raid 5 performs better with small I/O files, (versus the large data files associated with video). ~~ And you'll need to tie up a minimum of 3 hard drives to accomplish this sense of data recovery and availability)...
RAID 5 (STRIPING WITH PARITY)
RAID level 5 combines three or more hard drives so that all data is divided into manageable blocks called strips. RAID 5 uses parity, which is a mathematical method for recreating lost data to a single drive, which increases fault tolerance. The data and parity are striped across the array members in a rotating sequence. Because of the parity striping, it is possible to rebuild the data after replacing a failed hard drive with a new drive. The extra work of calculating the missing data will degrade the write performance to the volumes while data is being rebuilt. RAID 5 performs better for smaller I/O functions than larger sequential files.
Advantages: Full data redundancy; efficient; fault-tolerant and increased storage array performance.
Disadvantage: Time consuming to rebuild and decreased performance during rebuilding.
Applications: Good choice for file and application servers; Internet and Intranet servers.

I want to know if I am going to have to upgrade all graphic programs right away after buying new computer.
Trying to weigh ALL costs involved.
    Thanks for any advice!!!

Anything you have that is powerpc code only will not run on a new machine.  OS X 10.8 has no support for powerpc code (universal binary programs should be fine).
Other than that warning, without knowing exactly what programs you have, and what version you are on, it is hard to say whay will or will not migrate alright.
you might need to do some web searching and check apps at sites like roaringapps or on the programs Company web site.

  • Its Time To Upgrade My Computer/ Need Some Advice, old or new 8 core

well my dual 2.0 had a nice run but its time to move on up.i use alot of software plugs, omnisphere , bfd2 etc and my machine can't handle it. my question is. do i get a older 8 core and save some money or get one of the new ones. and also which speed. i know there is 3 new 8 core.
if i feel its worth it i would spend the extra money and get the latest and greatest, but do i need too? someone was mentioning muliithreading and things i know nothing about. also did the older 8 cores drop in value yet? and where is a good place to shop for one
    thanks

I was recently in the market for a new Mac Pro. My Dual 2gig had seen it's last mix ; )
I was originally lurking on EBay but I wasn't impressed with the prices on used 8-cores so, on a whim, I actually called one of the local Apple stores just to see if they had any left. Sure enough they had one 2.8 8-core in stock. Their price was $2499 (fortunately I am a part-time audio production teacher as well) and I received the EDU discount and got it for $2299 (plus the icky Illinois/Cook County/Chicago tax).
I would definitely hunt for a Old(New) one.
    Good Luck!

  • Adobe freezing on new computer?!

    Hi,
I recently bought a new computer for my video editing. Its an HP, p6340f with a Core 2 Quad Q8400 (Y) 2.66 GHz processor and an Intel G43 Express chipset. (Its Windows 7)  My boss installed Adobe Premeire Pro CS4 on my computer and it keeps on freezing. I literally can work for about 1 minute before the program freezes and shuts down. I have tried turning off my anti-virus but it has not helped. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I am going crazy!
    Thanks!

  • Unable to install Adobe premier elements 9 on new computer

I received Adobe Photo Element 9 and Premier 9 some time but my old computer did not have the capacity to load it. I have  a new computer and cannot load the software.  How can I load it (from the CDs included with the package) to my new computer.  It is a Windows 8 system with an Core I5 processor?

    Hi there,
Firstly, you should have installed PRE along with PSE in the first go itself, then everything would have been smooth. If you deferred the decision, then also there was no need to uninstall PSE per se. What could have been done is go to the installer media, browse to the "PRETrial" folder and then click on the Setup.exe of PRE installer to install PRE and at the serial number screen just choose the option to install in trial mode.
Now, the error you are getting is strange. When I  search over web, I found this mentioned for Error 2755:
This error may occur if there are  insufficient privileges on the %windir%\Installer folder, or the  inability of the Windows Installer service to create the  %windir%\Installer folder.
NOTE: This behavior can also occur if  you have only Read permissions to the Winnt folder. This condition  prevents the Installer folder from being created by Setup.
    Can you please check that?

  • Dealing with Shared Libraries after moving iTunes library to new Computer

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch) with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Previously, I had my iTunes on a Dell PC computer. Using an external hard drive, I transferred my iTunes library over to the Mac. After trying to sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2), I discovered that I wasn't able to sync my music. In my attempt to fix this, I tried several things. I actually purchased iTunes Match, hoping that this would somehow fix this problem, but it didn't work. I tried restoring my iPhone to factory settings after completely a backup. Again, this did not work. I have tried to delete my library and add it back following the specific instructions found on the Apple Support site (How to move your iTunes library to a new computer  - Apple Support).
When my iPhone is plugged in and I click under iPhone settings Music, the only option I have to work with is iTunes Match is On and syncing voice memos. There is not the option to sync music library.
I feel that somehow I have created multiple libraries or messed smoothing up because I can't even transfer music on to my iPhone manually. It's like my iPhone won't recognize the library on my iTunes. I am using the 12.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
    Then launch iTunes.
This is all you need to do.
You do not need to add anything or import anything to iTunes.
When you have iTunes Match turned on, you do not sync music via the computer or iTunes.
    You sync via iTunes Match.

  • Acrobat XI Pro performance with new Intel Core M processor

EDIT 21-Feb-2015: the issue seems to be with the power limitation of the new Intel Core M Broadwell processor. Enabling it in "full performance" mode significantly increases the performance. Nonetheless, in whichever power mode the computer is set, Microsoft Reader has no issue with any of the operations listed below.
    Hi,
I'm running Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 8.1 64-bit with high-res display (3200x1800, Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro), which uses the new Intel Core M Broadwell processor.
Zooming in and out and panning on the main application is very laggy, and full screen is EXTREMELY laggy. Also very noticeable delays in scrolling and page to page.
The computer is brand new, out of the box, no viruses or other software dragging the system down. Also, if I open the same files on the Microsoft Reader app, there is no lag at all in doing these operations.
I have found on the forum that some people have had lag and disabled Protected View and Enhanced Security. However, Protected View is not enabled on my installation, and disabling Enhanced Security has no effect.
Right now I would say that the zoom/pan performance is worse even than on Reader on a 5 year old Windows XP machine I tried to compare to.
Is there some other settings in Acrobat XI that could cause this issue?
    Thanks!
P.S. I couldn't find a more appropriate group other than "Acrobat Installation & Update Issues" as I didn't find a troubleshooting group or anything like that, but can re-categorize.

  • New computer choice question

    Hello:
I am a windows user currently using XP Pro to run CS3, and my system (2G memory, core duo laptop) is pretty slow when editing video on Premier Pro and using After Effects. I am thinking about getting a high end HP desktop with 64 bit windows vusta, 4 GB memory, and core quad. i have heard some bad things about vista and not possibly that a 64 bit system would actually penalize CS3 performance (??) -- my question -- is the system i am considering a good option for CS3 premiere pro and After Effects?
    any input would be appreciated.

For starters, one of the biggest mistakes people make is using their editing rig for other tasks. Ideally, you'll need two computers, one for editing and one for everything else. Often times it's the "everything else" loaded onto the editing rig that slows things down.
So, if your laptop is used for other things, maybe a new computer would be a good idea. But if you already have a desktop for "everything else", then just make sure nothing is installed onto the laptop but the programs you need for video production.

  • New video card or new computer?

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 (8-core) and I upgraded my video card to an Geforce GT 120 in order to run Final Cut Pro X. I have 10 GB of ram and am running 10.7.1. FCPX is somewhat annoying to work in that scrubbing seems to lag and the user interface generally seems to be slow. I just walked down to the Apple store and tried it on a 2010 Mac Pro (quad core with 3Gb ram) with an Radeon 5770 and it was MUCH more responsive.
So, my question is: would I get close to the kind of performance I saw in the store by upgrading my graphics card (again) to a 5770 or even a 5870 or will I be throwing good money after bad and should really be looking at getting a new computer or just living with the stuttering (the most likely option)?
    Thanks very much!
    Brian

In briefly looking at the specs of the two cards, it looks to me like the Radeon 5770 blows the GT 120 away. I also can't see why an 2008 8-core Mac Pro with 10GB would be a bottleneck for FCPX.
My advice would be to try upgrading your video card, especially since the 5770 is still pretty cheap relatively speaking (especially compared to a brand new computer).
If you buy the card from somewhere like Amazon, I think you can return it with just a restocking fee. (if it doesn't work out, that is)
Finally, one thing to check on -- do you have more than one video card installed at the moment? There've been reports of performance issues when you have more than one card installed. If that's the case, remove your other card and give things a try again. But my best guess is that upgrading to the 5770 will really improve things for you.

  • I want to use two separate Lion Time Machine backups and use them to create two separate profiles on one new computer

This is something I need to do temporarily but I must do it.
I have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.  It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal.
I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire.
I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive.  Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.
When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile.  The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile.   We can both be administrators for the time being as well.  I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.
My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.
This is temporary until the new iMac is released.  Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.
I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well.  But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.
I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable.  We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.  And any other suggestions as well.
    Thanks very much.

Hey Shootist000,  Thanks for the replies.  First off, I am actually okay if we both have each other applications so I am not concerned about that. It is still unclear from what you have said as to whether I can in fact, use these two separte time machine backup to create two separate profiles on the new hard drive.  If that in fact can be done, then - will it create two copies of the apps we both have in the ROOT of the drive as well as placing all the ones we each have separately?
And reading your second reply, makes me think that maybe the partition is the way to go to begin with and then down the road - after I am in the new iMac, I could reformat the iMac 27 with only one partion and restore my son's latest back prior to the reformat thus giving him full access to the 2 TB of the drive.
If this is still making sense, does this mean :
    replace the 1TB with a 2TB - but have it partitione - 1.5 TB & 500 GB.
Install(Restore using Time Machine) my latest back up prior to the  1.5 partition
Install (Restore using Time Machine) my son's latest back up prior to the 500 gig partition
Lastly, in order for us both to be using the partioned computer - I am assuming Switch user can no longer be used - so would we need to restart and select our respective partions in order to use the computer?   And if so, how would we each be able to be using time machine to back up - two separte external hard drives - with each one dedicated to only one partition? Or ?
    Thanks so much.
Ironically, I am only trying to do this so that I don't need to manually install all his apps, setting, games, blah blah for this temporary period.  :-)

  • I downloaded digital hd copies of movies onto my parents' computer and they have a new computer now, and the movies aren't there, even though they have the same apple ID. What do I do to get them to download?

I downloaded digital hd copies of movies onto my parents' computer and they have a new computer now, and the movies aren't there, even though they have the same apple ID. What do I do to get them to download?
    New computer: Dell, Windows 8.1
    Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
    64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
    16 GB RAM
    itunes up-to-date
Old computer: Dell, Microsoft Windows XP
    Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU @ 2.80GHz
    1 GB RAM
itunes not up-to-date (updating it isn't really an option)
I have these movies downloaded on the old computer from digital hd redeemed codes: Fantastic Mr. Fox, Super 98, Thor, Inception, The Hunger Games, and Star Trek Into Darkness. I bought Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on itunes with money, and that one isn't showing up either. When I search it on itunes to see if I can just re-download it, that isn't an option. I would have to buy it again. Home Sharing isn't what I want because the old computer will not be here forever and it is not connected to wifi.
It's kind of a lot of movies, and I want them on the new computer.

im so happy I have a iTunes Card Code absolutely free! I got it at http://linkbitty.com/freeitunes2014

  • I want a new Imac Core 2 Duo how do I move my files from my PowerPC G3?

I want to get a new Imac Core 2 Duo but I can't figure out how to move my old files from my very old PowerPC G3 to a new Imac when I get it -- which I hope is very soon. The G3 has a CD drive but it is not a CD burner, has a Zip Drive, does not have firewire ports or USB ports -- how on earth can I move my stuff over to the new computer? It does have a 10baseT port [I think that's what it is] -- maybe that's the key? I hope someone can help.
    PowerPC G3 Mac OS 9.1.x

2sockeye, yes, you can use the new mac's Migration Assistant Program to help you move files etc to your new mac via a firewire connection.
Before you do that, search more on "migration" etc on this Discussion; Move only your data files (music, photos) as much as possible but do not move applications and especially system files, preferences that may or will override what's in your new Intel mac, it will cause corruption or an unstable system.
Download and install all the applications from ground up, especially 3rd party utilities etc - look for the Universal versions (either stated, or with a blue "ying yang" logo)
    Cheers
    NEW
No, when you go through the beginning of setting up your new Mac, a page with the Migration Program would appear, and ask you questions on how and what kind of migration you want to perform, it will also ask you (with given instructions) connect the 2 macs up with a firewire cable - this cable goes into your firewire ports
If you don't have a firewire port on your old computer, then search again in this Discussion and under the Support tab, whether on how to transfer data on macs without FW ports

  • I want to transfer my iPhoto pics to my new computer, but how?

I have an old dome based iMac running tiger. I want to transfer data to my newer duo core iMac. I bought a USB 32 gb storage device by lexor to load data from my old and put it on my new. When I plug the device into the USB port I see nothing to indicate it is present. How do you use on of these things? No instructions were included.

On the package the new USB flash drive came in, is there any indication of
which Mac OS X version is supported by the portable storage device?
The latest USB flash drive, such as the Lexar 32GB, is USB3.0 speed
and likely is not backward compatible to USB1.1. So try something less
ambitious for use with the ancient PowerPC iMac G4.
Could be that one is not supported, and since the old iMac may have only
USB1.1 speed ports, to attempt to fill the capacity at that speed would be
super slow. A faster method, if you had correct cabling and know-how,
would be to use FireWire. This may require an adapter for the new Mac
since some of them do not have FireWire ports; so it may require a FW
to Thunderbolt adapter between computers so the files can be moved.
(With that, it may be possible to boot the old iMac PPC in Target Disk Mode,
and move --drag/drop-- folders of images from the old iMac hard drive to
a location, perhaps a folder, on the desktop of the new Mac.)
If you weren't dealing with desktop computers, the Apple Store could have
helped transfer your files from the old to new computer. There is a setup
or migration assistant that can help.
Do you have an externally enclosed hard disk drive already in use w/ old Mac?
To use smaller capacity USB flash drives of compatible specs may work OK
but could still take quite a bit of time to move to/from the chip between Macs.
Is the PowerPC iMac actually running Tiger 10.4.1, or is that 10.4.11?
A difference would mean later driver support, maybe.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • In the market for a new computer would love some feedback

Ok so I have a dilemma,
First problem is I can't decide between a laptop and a desktop if I went the laptop route I would go with the Asus N53qm
    Asus N53 Specs
Its got i7 720qm, some sites have it with 740qm, ddr3 memory, 425m cuda video card,
Id upgrade the ram to at least 8gb or ram maybe upgrade more down the road.... Id be editing video off esata or usb 3.0
I see the advantage of having a laptop being able to work on the road, taking it to my bed....
Id plug it into an external monitor/mouse, keyboard when at my desk.
My other option I would be a desktop
    Specs would be,
x58 motherboard, havnt decided which one yet, theres a lot that seem to all have the same features, eg. msi, asus, gigabyte.
Again ddr3 memory I notices 2000 was not much more than 1333, so yea as much ram as I want down the road....
    GTX 470
    850 watt corsair
    Intel Core i7 950
    Thermaltake A60 Case
Again most of my projects would most likely be through esata or usb 3.0 not sure which is better...
Oh and I would be editing HD Video from a flash based camcorder, Cannon HSF 10 to be specific, so its .mts avchd
Anyways, how much of a performance increase would I get from the desktop over the laptop?
I notice a lot of people overclock, is that really necessary, isnt an i7 pretty fast stock?
Thanks and please let me know your thoughts, advice changes to my specs...

Would love some feedack from the experts on this config available at Tiger direct for about $1,000
My Goal: to edit AVCHD footage using CS5....looking at the specs below specifically the processor, the video card and the RAM..what do you think?
( I  currently have CS3 on an HP Quad Core 2.4Ghz w/ 8GB RAM which is great for SD, but I realize that when upgrading to CS5 and editing my Sony HDR-500v AVCHD footage I'l need much more power)     Thanks!!

  • Elements 7.0, Windows 8 - Getting a "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project."  Re-install on new computer because my old one died.

Sorry, I put everything in the question.
I had it working on my old computer.  The old computer died, so I bought a new quad core (just so I could run elements).  Now nothing works.  Please help.

Thanks John for replying so quickly.
What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
I have an NVIDIA GEFORCE 740M card.  The driver says 9.18.13.3165.  Just tried to update it, and says it's current?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
There is another driver, but numbered 335.23 which looks nothing like the driver number I have.  It's also 276 MB, dated 2014.3.10
Then I got afraid about what it would do to the computer, and tried to figure out how to set a restore point in windows 8, and couldn't figure it out.
Couldn't download QT for some reason.  It goes to the thank you page, and never downloaded it?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
