New computer for new iphone?

The machine I would sync the phone to is a G5 running 10.4.11
(I do have intel machines running 10.6 - but I use this old
G5 for itunes)
I cannot upgrade the G5 to 10.6. Apple no longer sells 10.5.
Do you think I'm really going to have to buy a new computer
to use the new iphone?
(I actually plan to replace the G5 with the next generation MacPro, if and when they actually release one)

I was hoping to skip 10.5 on this machine - especially
since I hope to replace it sometime soon. The G5 has
two firewire cards and 10TB of disk (6 firewire externals) - not sure if
it is practical to hang all those disks off an iMac or Macbookpro.
Maybe I'll set the G5 up as a file server for now - or just wait and get
an iphone after I replace it. I hate to spend the time and money to
upgrade the OS on the G5 knowing that before long I'm going to
have to spend time and money to replace it. Yes, I'm cheap and lazy
edit: sorry wjosten, I ran out of helpfuls But I still have a solved left for anybody who comes up with a brilliant solution to my temporary dilemma.

I have a new macbook and i want to make it my new home for my iphone, as well as transfer all the items on the iphone. i already removed and deauthorized everything from my old computer.
1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

I have a new computer and have successfully transfered all music and purchases from old computer to the new, however itunes does not recognize the new computer as my home computer for my iphone. How do I change this?
You can only sync to one computer but if you've transferred everything than nothing will be lost. Just be sure all content resides on the computer and the phone is backed up

I have recived a new computer for christmas and dowloaded the new itunes on it but when i hook my iphone 4 up to the new computer with the new itunes it will only show up on the new devices the music i have on it will not show up in the new itunes lirary on my new computer i hate having to hook my iphone everytime to see my music! can some one show me how to fix this!?!?!?!?! Media is only where you put it.

I just downloaded the new update for my iphone
just downloaded a new update for my iphone and now all i get when i try to power the phone back on is a itunes logo a aarow pointing up and what looks like a charger below that... is it telling me to connect to itunes?? is there a problem with my phone?? someone please help i am out of town and need my phone
That's telling you your phone is in "Recovery Mode", & needs to be restored. You'll need a computer to do so:

If you don't have a current backup to restore from, any data on your phone will be lost. -
I really wanna order a new housing for my iphone 4 (at&t)Ive dropped my phone a million times, and its even gone swimming
its SURPRISINGLY not shattered, but has a ton of deep scratches in it. i saw on Amazon.com you can buy complete new housings for them, and i watched a couple youtube videos on how to change them, but i really dont trust myself changing it. my luck it destroy it and it will be garbage, and ill be left with no phone...
question is.. Will APPLE put a new housing on it, if i buy it and bring it to them? (*i dont have apple care, or any kind of insurance on my phone*)No, they will only sell you an out of warranty replacement, which for the iPhone 4 is $149 (US).

If you set up a new account on your iPhone you won't have access to all the data associated with the prior Apple ID.

Itunes is not letting me add songs from my new computer to my iphone.
Instead it wants me to sync my music library and lose all the songs on my phone. i have over 700 songs i cannot lose them just because i want to add 10 new songs... PLEASE HELP. also i am using the new CONFUSSING ITUNES 11.This has always been the case.
All iphones have always only synced to one computer at a time.
Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one. -

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I created a new ID for my Iphone, because the old ID was an email address I no longer have. Also, the phone wouldn't recognize the password I have always used. Now the problem is when I try to update my apps, it automatically wants to use the old ID. I've set the new ID for the phone, but it defaults to the old one when asking for a password to update apps.
That's because all apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them, & can only be updated using that ID.
To use your new ID with these apps, you'll have to delete them, then repurchase. Or, contact iTunes support, explain the situation, & ask that they add these apps to the download queue of your new ID. -

I didn't add anything new, just restarted the computer and the light flashed. I can hold the on button down for 7 flashes to shut it down, otherwise there's nothing I see relevant about the flashing. There are no tones.
