New computer, ipod doesnt like him...

Hi everyone,
Im Timo and i have my ipod touch for a while now (2nd gen) and ever since i bought a new computer my ipod is not recognized by neither windows (7) or Itunes...
I have tried many things but nothing seems to work, there is a little hope because when i connect it to my dads computer it is instantly recognized by itunes and windows (xp).
When i connect it to my computer it doesnt charge, it does when connected to my dads computer... please help,
Timo
(Sorry for my bad english, im dutch :P)

Unfortunately it doesn't work thanks for your effort,
Drat.
If Christine's suggestion doesn't help (it's certainly worth following up), I'd like to check the details of your motherboard a bit more closely, Timo.
Try downloading and installing a copy of Belarc Advisor:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Run an audit of the PC with belarc Advisor. Under "Main Circuit Board" what do you see next to "Board:"?
For example, on my Lenovo I see:
*Board: LENOVO 889703U*

Try importing them from the Nano to your computer. Here is a way that might work (if you can see files on your Ipod)
    1) If Itunes is already installed disk use may need to enabled so you can see the Ipod in my computer. Itunes hides your ipod from windows otherwise.
    2) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
    3) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
    4) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
You may need to authorise your new computer by playing it in the library first.

  • New computer - IPod/ITunes syncing/transfering issues

I recently obtained a new computer and cannot figure out how to put ALL of the songs located in my IPod BACK into ITunes. The only songs that transferred were those that I had purchased through the store. I spent days downloading music from my CD's to my IPod before and I can't imagine having to do that again. My problem sounds like it may be the same as the person before me, so...this can't be uncommon. I had almost 920 songs before and only 104 are on my current library on the computer(those previously purchased from the store). Can't find a number to contact anyone, so...HELP PLEASE!!! I'm burning a CD of my son's favorite songs as some of the B-Day favors and the party is only a few days away. YIKES!!!!!!

hey, it seems like we're in the same boat together. I actually found someone before me who had the same problem, and they gave a lot of good suggestions. Personally, I went with this one; http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/musicrescue/ It's a program titled Music Rescue. Download it, plug in your iPod and it shows you all the songs currently on your iPod and you can choose which ones to copy. The best thing is, it's free. They ask you to buy the program if you really like it, but you don't have to buy it for it to work. (I just hope you don't mind several friendly reminders popping up informing you of it's cost ;D) If you need any further help as to how to actually get the music on to iTunes, just ask

  • New computer, ipod won't download songs

I just got a new computer, and I downloaded the Pantera itunes essentials, but they won't go on my ipod. How do I fix this? Thanks.
Also I have some Maiden and Priest songs on my ipod that aren't on the new itunes, how do I get them on there? Syncing doesn't work.

OK, your seem to have a more basic problem. The touch and iTunes communicate via a piece of software called the Apple Mobile Device Services. It sounds like this is either not loading or is disabled on your computer. The best way to fix it is follow the directions in this technical article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

  • Need help with new computer/ipod

Hi i have a new computer and I want to put my ipod music on the new computer I can not figure out how to do this. When i plug into I-Tunes it only wants to sync and erase my IPOD help????

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • New computer-Ipod problems

Got a new computer. The only things that showed up in my iTunes was the music I bought. All the stuff I downloaded on my own is not in iTunes (nor are all the playlists I set up).
Not only that but stuff that I've put in my iTunes since I got my new computer is not transferring to my iPod.
So basically, the ipod is not talking to itunes and itunes is not talking to my ipod. What gives? What do I do? Thanks.
Old computer was XP, new computer is Vista.

    anyone?

  • New computer, ipod won't sync

My old iBook's hard drive had some water damage, so I got a new MacBook. But now my ipod won't sync with my new computer unless I erase what I already have on my ipod. How do I get all my non-purchases off my ipod before reformatting to my new computer?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would , relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I transfere onto a new computer - ipod threatening to erase !!

I have had to get a new computer as my hard drive went. I have tried installing itunes again, but when I try and sync with my ipod it says I have registered with another computer and if I sync all my 500 tracks will be erased, plus it wont let me sync my bought tunes, as they too are regisitered to a computer that no longer exsists!!
I have tried uninstalling and installing again but it still wont let me sync my old stuff to the upgraded itunes, I can't face having to put everything back on the ipod it took months!!

I see from the help pages I need to deauthorise my old pc, my old PC died suddenly and I can't do this - and I didn't have a chance to copied files and burn them to disc either - and didn't back up other than on my pc !!! I've lost all my purchases !!!
