New Computer - iTunes Says It Can't Find Music

I got a new computer last week, and I followed Apple's step-by-step instructions to move my iTunes library over to the new computer. Everything seems to be OK, except for the fact that I can't play any of the music that I moved over directly from my library/iTunes off my desktop through my computer speakers. The only music it will recognize is music that I have bought/imported since the move to the new computer.
When I double-click on a song that was moved over, I get the following message: "The song "XYZ" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I click "yes" it just brings up my music folder that I used to copy all of the songs. Does this mean I have to go through each song individually and link it up to the file before I can play them on my computer?
Things that I have done:
1) Made sure the "enable disk use" option is turned off
2) Made sure the pathway between iTunes and the music folder is linked correctly.
3) Made sure the "organize" option was checked under "preferences."
Please help! My iPod made the transition alright, but sometimes a girl just wants to listen to her music out loud on her computer!

Easiest way to fix that is to find the CD, reload it, and take the files off the other place on your computer. Another way is instead of putting it right onto iTunes, take it to "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Unknown Artist". In there, past the music then double click them one at a time. The file will start to play on iTunes and will save itself under its Artist's name/names. There shouldn't be any problem after that.
Now lets see if you can help me. Call be stupid, but I can't figure out how to post my own topic.

My computer is saying it can't find the file 'iTunes64.msi' when I try to update or redownload iTunes how do I fix this? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I am using a dell laptop running windows 7 and have tried changing the file location to run the update in all of my iTunes files as well as when I've tried reinstalling it.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Why does Itunes say it can't find the original file for a particular song?

why does Itunes say it can't find the original file for a particular song? and then asks if I want to locate it? I can't access a bunch of old song files. any new cds are available to me in itunes. all others are not accessible. how do i merge the new cd's with the old ones so that all the songs are playable in Itunes. thanks.

Of course, I have backed up to CD and/or external drive.
I'm wondering if you're attempting to maintain your library on your external HDD? If iTunes has been directed to use a location on your external hard drive as your iTunes Music Folder location (you can check this in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab) you MUST ensure that the hard drive is connected to the computer and mounted in the Finder prior to launching iTunes. If it isn't, it can cause this error to appear. This is probably one of the most common reasons this error begins to appear.
It seemed my purchased songs were the first to DISAPPEAR and I had to rebuy.(Nice scam in the bug?)
So... why not restore them from your backup? If, for some reason, this wasn't an option, you could have also recovered them from any iPod or iPhone they were currently synced to (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848), or, you can also email iTunes Store support and request a "regrant," which is a once-per-account exception they might be able to offer you and allow you to download missing purchases again.
I am now convinced this a HUGE BUG in 7.7.1. and possibly the previous version or two.
I'm not so sure... I've never run across this particular error (my library is stored on my internal hard drive, but copied to an external for backup purposes with an application other than iTunes or Finder. I don't think Apple will provide acknowledgment to issues experienced only by very small numbers of people... I'm one of those, perhaps foolish, individuals who allows my computer to download updates immediately, rather than waiting for fear of problems, and again, I've never had this error.

  • I bought Photoshop Elements 10 and would like to transfer it to a new computer. However, I can't find my Serial Number.

I bought Photoshop Elements 10 and have it installed in an old computer. I would like to transfer it to a new computer. However, I can't find my Serial Number.

If you downloaded it from Adobe or registered it with Adobe, you should be able to go to your account and get the serial number.

  • I am having problems with my music collection, after burning all of my music to the computer I organized it into folders and placed it in the iTunes Folder. Starting on a new computer now. I can get my music from old computer?

I am having problems with my music collection, after burning all of my music to the computer I organized it into folders and placed it in the iTunes Folder. As of now i realize this was a mistake. Starting on a new computer now. I cant get my music to transfer from the itunes folder on the old computer? I keep getting error "Can't Read from the source file or disk." Whenever I got to folder properties its always checked read only. But when i play the song it works just fine. Im sure this is just because I added music into itunes folder but is there anyway to fix it?

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

  • HT1386 i have gone through several pc units over time and when i try to sync up my iphone and ipad to my new computer is says it can not sync because i have the devices registered on too many computers. How do i fix that?

I have had several computers in recent years and when i try to sync my iphone and ipad to my new computer, it says it cant because the devices are registered on too many computers. I only need them synced up to two computers - how do i fix this?

In iTunes, under the "Store" menu, you can select "Deauthorize this computer". That will remove that computer from your iTunes account and free up a spot for the new computer.
If you have already sold or wiped your previous computers, you can log into your iTunes account from the Store menu in iTunes by selecting "View My Account xxxx@xxxx". Once you are logged in, about 1/4 the way down the page it will tell you that you have "xx computers are authorized......". Beside that you have the option to deauthorize all of the connected devices. That is the only option, you will have to deauthorize all and then set up the ones you want to use.
I think 10 is the maximum number of devices that can sync to one iTunes account.

  • ITunes says it can't find apps/music and videos

when i try to sync my ipod touch with itunes it says that it can't find a number of items. how can i find these items (music, videos and apps) and get them on my ipod.
    Thank you for your time

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Imported  Songs from CD.  Now iTunes says it can't find the songs

My mom has an iPhone and a laptop with Windows 7 on it.  But she's not exactly "technically savy" so she has me deal with anything technology related.
She imported a number of CDs into iTunes on her laptop and then sync'd to her iPhone.  The music plays fine on her phone.  But when she attempts to play the music on her laptop (in iTunes), she gets a message that iTunes can't find the original file.
    TIA!

  • My new iPod touch says it can't find any of my music?

I just go a new iPod touch 5g and when I downloaded the newest iTunes software, and I uploaded all my music onto iTunes, I plugged in my new iPod. When I clicked the "sync" button it started to sync all of my music. After a few seconds a couple pop-ups windows came up telling me that it could find NONE of my music. Then it stopped syncing, and didn't load any of my music onto the iPod. I have no idea what went wrong, but can someone PLEASE help?

I think I found the problem. I moved the music from my Mac to my windows computer using a USB drive and when i unplugged the USB drive, it said it couldn't find any of the music. but after i plugged it back in, it seems to have worked.

  • I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get new computer.  My library is still there and the playlists show and I can even add to my playlists. But as soon as it goes to sync it says it can't find all the songs that used to be there.

I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get a new computer.  They all appear in my library and show in my playlists.  I can even download new songs from the itunes store to those playlists but when it syncs only the new songs go on the ipod.  It says it can't find any of my "old" songs and puts an exclamation mark beside them.  I am clueless when it comes to these things.  Advice please!  We have three ipods on this account trying to figure it out.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here.
Audiobooks (and ringtones) are currently a one-time only download. I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them who are requiring the one-time only download restriction. To get it onto your other devices you will need to sync it via a computer. Depending upon what country that you are in, Audible.com have their own app (Audiobooks from Audible) so you might be able to buy direct from them, though I don't know whether you can buy within their app or download audiobooks directly from them within the app e.g. whether they need to be copied via a computer.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
