New computer, new install of iTunes - back-up and sync iPad?!
I have a new computer and unfortunately the HD in my old one went belly up before I had a back-up of ITunes data. So I have iTunes installed on the new computer and I have logged into my iTunes account. No worries so far. But I'm concerned about back-up and syncing. Back-up I know how to do, although I understand this doesn't back-up everything on the iPad. My concern with syncing the iPad (full of Apps, music, photos etc) is will syncin copy everything from the iPad into my iTunes library or will the empty iTunes library copy to my iPad effectively wiping it?! I'm confused (again!)

Computer Crashed New Install of Itunes wants to wipe out iPad
I got an iPad for Christmas. I had iTunes already on a computer and they all played well together - I didn't store any music in my iTunes - just used it to shop and download apps for my iPad. The computer crashed and I lost iTunes. But I had a number of apps and some books on my iPad (which are all in tact and fine).
When I reinstalled iTunes it says something about this iPad doesn't belong to this iTunes installation and gives me a message that says it's going to wipe out everything on my iPad to join it to the new instance of iTunes. I just unplugged my iPad on the spot.
I've tried a number of things and can't figure out how to basically say "No, I want it the other way around. The iPad is mine and I paid for what's on it - make iTunes match my iPad." So I haven't been able to update the iPad software or anything now for months and decided after several attempts to ask for help.
The new computer is running Windows 7 in case it matters.

Jim1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.

i have in the meantim had to open www.icloud. then from there import the file that i am working on and then check on ipad if it uploaded/ yes it did.
but what a waste of time as it doesn not save any changes done automatically back in the cloud....
i am now downloading the new LION and hope that it will fix the problem
i cant find any other way. I was lead to believe that you wrote, it saved automatically, on to the cloud, you then opened anohter device in anotother country even, and the new file was there, waiting, in its latest version.......
and the same magic was supposed to happen in reverse.

if i have to open a browser, go to www.icloud....why on earth did they not just leave us an icon to drop it in in that case?

I cannot get my new install of iTunes 11 to recognize my music library
I had been happily using Vista and iTunes 11 to access my music on my NAS. I had changed the iTunes media folder location to "\\READYNAS\media\Music\iTunes" and all my songs showed up in iTunes.
Then I switched to Windows 7 (clean install) and installed iTunes 11 and again changed the
media folder location to" \\READYNAS\media\Music\iTunes," but the songs do not appear in iTunes. All that appears are the three sample songs located at C:\Users\Public\Music\Sample Music.
I have enabled both "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library."
Also, I answer "yes" to the pop-up question, "Would you like iTunes to move and rename the files in your iTunes new media folder to match the 'Keep iTunes media folder organized' preference?"
How do I get my new installation of iTunes to find and use my songs on the NAS?

Changing the location of the media folder in and of itself doesn't alter where iTunes looks for existing content, nor make it add content from a new location into the library. iTunes expects everything to stay where it was. Keeping the library files on the computer with the media on an external drive or NAS creates a split library. This is harder to move to a new system or preserve during an OS upgrade. Unlike a split library a self-contained portable library in the usual layout can be moved to a new path providing the relative paths from library to media folder remain unchanged. Before upgrading or migrating a library it should be possible to rearrange the library into this portable shape, move the library, test that it works, then if necessary copy the library files back to internal storage for performance. How do I sync my old library with a new install of iTunes on a seperate drive?
I just recently installed an SSD on my PC and I want to run iTunes off of the SSD. My library currently resides on my old HDD witch also has the most current version of iTunes on as well. How can I sync the library that resides on my old HDD to the new install of iTunes on my SSD?
can't if you do not have access to the old library (the usual workaround is to backup the old library and import it to the new itunes)
for important data...
sync your existing contacts with icloud, your text messages will not be disrupted, music will sync with whatever music you have on your new itunes, photos shoud still be in the camera roll (I would sync them to photostream before you sync, just in case). Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll. App data may or may not be lost. In my experience, it depends on the app. Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not. I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data. -
Just to give you a bit more detail. I upgraded my iphone 4 to an iphone 5 today. Last night I backed up and synced all my messages, photos and contacts on itunes and icloud. When I connected the new iphone 5 to itunes today, it somehow reverted back to my old phone settings from 2011 :S So now, I have apps, particularly games, that are incomplete. My contacts have numbers that are out of date and I have none of the photos that were taken in the past year. My 2012 messages are gone and old messages from 2011 are there. Now, all my phone data had been regularly stored and synced with itunes and icloud. So why did it revert back to 2011 phone settings and how can I get it to change to the settings that existed last night? Also all my information on icloud, how do I get that onto my new iphone? If I go on www.icloud.com and sign in, all my photos, contacts, mail and messages are there, but I have no idea how to transfer that to my new iphone 5. Any help on all of these issues would be appreciated, thanks.
In Regards to this, You possibly wont be able to get the contacts from the iPhone 4 unless there is a back up file on your computer.
The original phone would be disabled due to alot of attempts of the wrong passcode. If all your contacts are on the cloud at the moment, you would be able to just set the iPhone 4S up with iCloud on it then Turn On "Contacts".
This would be bring all the contacts down from your iCloud onto your 4S.
But you will only be able to merge your contacts with the cloud when your original iPhone either has been enabled or the passcode was entered.
If you have previously already had iCloud on that device and have contacts Turned on, you will be able to just enter the same Apple ID you used for iCLoud on your original phone and use it on your new one.
Your able to check what content your iCloud holds via www.icloud.com
If you are unable to get past the disabled screen, then unfortunately the device will have to be put into recovery mode and then restored via iTunes NOTE: This will delete all data. -
I realize this topic has been kind of beat to death, but I'm not finding exactly the information I'm searching for. There is a lot of information about splitting libraries, but I want to do a new install, and have my media located on a separate drive, with nothing but the software on the C drive.
I have a pretty massive music library (noting new or special about that), so an new install of iTunes is always a huge chore. Like many other users in posts I've read with similar questions, my C drive is SSD (also have another dedicated to something else entirely), and so I have purchased a standard spinning drive to handle my iTunes media, and externals for everything that isn't meant for iTunes. Basically, I need the library database to be located on my 'E' drive (let's say), and I will move most of my files manually. I just need iTunes to find them after doing so, and then I'll simply resync my iPhone to the new setup. I have a few reservations about that, but that is a different topic.Right now, I just need to get iTunes installed and have it recognize/find media on a separate drive. Also, I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit, in case that is relavant.

I've started another discussion because installing this newest version of iTunes has caused problems like I've never encountered.
- I did a fresh install as I intended (new PC running Win 7 64-bit). Installation is smooth, and opens fine. Then I create the new library on "I" drive, iTunes then stalls when opening. I just tried this again, and it has been unresponsive for ~10 min, not fully open.
- I see the new library just fine when I peek in the "I"drive.
- In a previous attempt, I used an existing library file, iTunes still stalls, though it loaded the content. It just freezes when I enter the store. The content loaded fine. Still, couldn't access new material or materials I've purchased and won't download after installing and trying to access iTunes store.
-each time I try, I unstall every connected program to iTunes, even removing items from registry.
I'm seriously perplexed. I've been using iTunes since 2005 and have never had any kind of issue like this. this PC is a gaming rig. Top of the line components all the way. I even cancled overclock settings to make sure that wasn't the culprit. Still no joy. I had iTunes installed on this machine about 3 months back, but since "C" drive is SSD, I uninstalled until I recently purchased a standard HD specifically for media content. While writing this, it just brough up the tutorial. I click an option (iTunes in the Cloud) just to see if it moves ahead. It does nothing. I have to minimize the browser to access. Apple no longer offers support - they want me to pay to help with free software for which I've already spent loads of money on for content. This is absolutely insane. What has changed in the last few months to make this software behave this way? Previous versions HAVE worked on this machine. I simply couldn't contain the library on my drive. No help was offed on my other post. I'm desparate at this point. Please. Someone from the community or Apple help me. I've got literally several thousands of dollars of media that I cannot access on my PC. ****, the OS is lean and I barely have any software installed. This makes no sense at all. Sorry that I'm all over the place. I've been working for hours on a problem with BitCoin miners on another machine and combine with iTunes (which should be simple compared to the DIY component of mining hardware and software...which I'm actually able to solve!!!), and I'm fried and defeated. need sleep. Since new MacBook Pro: iTunes freeze during iPhone sync

I know that there are already a lot of discussions going on about these but nothing works for me.
MacBook Pro mid 2012:
MacOS 10.8.5 ---> new clean install
iTunes 11.1.1 ---> new clean install
iPhone 3Gs:
iOS 6.1.3 ---> new clean install
The problem:
The problem started after a clean Mountain Lion install on a new MacBook Pro.
Updated all applications an system.
Copied iTunes folder to new MacBook Pro.
Connected iPhone to sync with new MacBook Pro.
And ...
iTunes freeze during iPhone sync for the first time in many years whitout problems.
Some apps in iPhone are partly installed because of freeze.
When i delete them they appear again during next sync and then iTunes freezes again.
What i already have tried:
# Clean iOS install --> again and again
# Recover from older back-up --> again and again
# New user
# New iTunes install
# Delete iTunes preferences and cache
# Delete all apps
# Reset permissions on the user in repair center
# select: "Prevent ..., iPhones, ... from syncing automatically"
---> but when i connect the iPhone it start syncing automatically???
# and so on, and so on
All the rest is working like a beauty!
Please help, getting down and losing al lot of time.
RegardsIt have taken me all day but it's solved!
During last sync on old MacBook Pro the new version of the iBook app was only synced partly.
That's why, when i was trying to sync on my new MacBook Pro, iTunes was freezing during sync.
Once i have synced my iPhone on the old MacBook Pro again, and iBook app was synced complete, this problem was fixed.

I just got tOhe iPhone 4Gs today and had contacts and photos uploaded from another phone synced new phone with iTunes for music and accidentally restored it so all my old iPhone stuff is on the new one is there any way to fix this ?! Please help !!!!
