New computer, same ipod nano. cant access songs

i just got a new laptop and all my songs are on my old computer. i have an ipod nano 2g. i know i have to transfer them using an external drive or disc. but is there a way to transfer them off my ipod? alos when i use itunes on my new notebook it says that the ipod is synced with another library and i cant get my songs on it! please help....

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
iRepo Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HT1296 sync new songs on new computer to ipod nano

My old computer "crashed" but I had songs backed up. I purchased a new computer. But all my songs I have purchased will not sync on my ipod nano. Can anyone help?

I have already tried following those steps. I went back and tried to follow them again but they did not work. Some of my songs have synced, some have not. And I am still not seeing the Autofill icon on the bottom of the menu or anywhere else. I fear something has been corrupted here and I need to start afresh.

  • Transfer IPOD purchases to new computer from IPOD nano

I am wanting to download my songs from my IPOD nano to my new computer and it wont let me transfer my purchases to the new computer. I have authorize my new computer and it still won't let me. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? I am not computer savvy so any direction would need to be very specific!!!

No.  If you try to sync your iPod with a new iTunes library, it'll erase all content from the iPod and replace it with the content that is in the new iTunes library.
So if you need to move data from your iPod back to your new PC first, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different methods and software available to assist you with this task.

Is the music on your computer? If so then make sure everything is updated...

Then just connect the iPod and it will sync the songs in iTunes.

  • New computer, old iPod, how to add songs

my computer died recently, so i got a new one and subsequently installed iTunes on it. now i got a new cd and put it into the iTunes. but i'm trying to get these songs into my iPod, but it wants to replace the "library" on my iPod that has ALL my music in it, with this new "library" that's only got these 11 songs. obviously i don't want to delete everything on my iPod. i just want to add new stuff to my iPod. help please.

You can only have one iTunes library synced a device at a time. It will see the new computer as a new iTunes library. Unfortunately, in order to sync with the new computer you will have to "erase and sync" so the iPod will be formatted to work with the new computer.

  • HT1351 lost ability to authorize a new computer for Ipod nano, how do i get it back?

Had to buy a new harddrive and lost all my itune info. Went to Itune store as asked, clicked on my account as told to authorize this version of my computer.
This computer was authorized with the old harddrive but I am getting a message that my Ipod is corrupted. I was told to authorize same but can't. I had a spot to deauthorized computers but none to authorize a new one. I think this is why I am not recognized now(??)

See Here for full details   About authorization and deauthorization

  • New computer same ipod ipod not working

I recently purchased a new laptop. It has been authorized (after several attempts because the "iTunes Store was unavailable") and now my iPod, which I have had for several years and has successfully been working no longer properly syncs with the new laptop.
When I synced iTunes told me that audiobooks that I had on the iPod and was listening to no longer worked with the iPod. This makes absolutely no sense. They worked on the iPod earlier this week before I synced it through the new laptop. How do I recover the ability to listen to songs and books that previously had no issues on my iPod?
I have also lost all of my playlists, this has never happened before and I have changed computers several times with this particular iPod.

    Peter,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First: It is not safe to have your music on your iPod only. iPods do fail sometimes and would leave you with an empty iPod and no music.
That said, it is possible to get your tunes of your iPod. You don't mention your OS but you may find an utility for this on versiontracker.

Connect the iPod to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and then on the right-hand side you can use the Music tab to select which of your music that you want on the iPod.

I tried to transfer purchases from my iPod to a new computer, but for some of the songs it asks for a different Apple ID and password than mine. Ideas?

You definitely need to resurrect the old password associated with the Apple ID you used to purchase the music.
    Go here: https://iforgot.apple.com
An email will be sent to the email address associated with that account with instructions regarding resetting that Apple ID's password.
If you no longer have access to that email, the resolution to this problem becomes considerably more difficult. In that event you would need to contact iTunes Support and explain your dilemma.

We have itunes music on a computer, an ipod nano, and a new ipod touch under two different accounts. How can we combine the music from both accounts to one device?

There is no "adding" a device.  Simply plug the iDevice into the computer.  iTunes should automatically detect the device when it is connected.
iTunes can sync/manage as many iDevices as you want... there is no 1 device limit.

  • I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out".  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs using the new computer, there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out" during play back, similar to a small scratch on a vinyl record.  Although when I play the same song over again, the "miss" occurs in a different location during the song.  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

If you right mouse and select Get info it will show you the Apple ID used to purchase these songs.
Usually the name of an apple id is based on the email. So knowing that you may have forgotten the Apple ID password.
