New computer. scared to sync

i bought a new laptop and am trying to sync. everything syncs except my music. keeps telling me that if i sync all of my music on the iphone will be replaced by the music in my itunes library, which are the songs that came on my laptop. any help would be appreciated.

Turn off automatic syncing when the iphone is not connected. Go into edit < preferences < syncing tab < then turn off automatic syncing.
Then, make sure your computer is authorized. (Go into the store drop down menu and select authorize computer)
Then, go into file and select transfer purchases.
That should resolve your issue.
PS, this only works if your music is purchased form the itunes store.

I ran into this same problem earlier with my new iPod classic 160 gb. Turns out it could be your files show in iTunes but they aren't connected to the location those music tracks are actually located.
    Does this make any sense?
You basically have to make sure iTunes is picking your songs from the right music folder via your preferences.
Option 1: If your iTunes is completely wiped blank and your music is stored in a safe place, backed up, etc. You can do the following:
Step A. Preferences > iTunes Media Folder Location > choose folder
**** please be sure to pick a location that is new or different from where you ACTUALLY stored your music to prevent your files from deleting itself as it updates****
For example, if you stored your music on your Desktop then you wouldn't choose your music folder to be the one in Desktop. You choose the folder where you want your music to go such as C:\My Music or in Mac, you choose the music folder.
Step B. Once you choose the folder where all your music is stored and you check the box that says "Keep iTunes Media Folder organized" and "Copy Files to iTunes Media when adding to library."
Step C. This is the part that will make sense. Drag the folder on desktop that houses all your music into iTunes. Because you checked the box "Copy Files to iTunes Media when adding to library," iTunes will copy all the backup music you dragged into the folder location you designated it in "Preferences > iTunes Media Folder Location > choose folder."
---- once all that is done, your itunes will have ALL your music tracks linked to the right location on your computer and your iPod will sync with as many or all of the music you desire.
    Hope this helps.

  • My new computer won't sync with my phone

I had synced my old computer (Windows 7, Firefox) with my phone (Android, Firefox). Old computer broke, bought new computer (Windows 8), synced new computer, got all old bookmarks back. So far, so good. However, I can't seem to get any new bookmarks added on my phone on this computer or added on this computer on my phone. Syncing apparently happens every day, but not between these two.
    How do I fix this?

    Are you getting any error?
Did you setup the SYNC without error?
REMOVE your SYNC, restart your mobile and reSYNC it

  • Music folder transferred to a new computer won't sync

my iTunes folder contains approximately 8,000 songs. the computer on which it's stored is no longer working properly, so i saved my itunes folder onto an external hard drive, then uploaded it to a new laptop. now, when i attempt to sync my entire music library from the new computer, it only syncs my purchased music.
the files have transferred successfully, as i can click on any given song and it will indeed play (on the computer).
it's almost as though my music non-purchased music folder is saved in the wrong place, or that my ipod is not pointing to the right folder.
any idea how to combat this problem?

    Hi HB3207!
I have a couple of suggestions for you to attempt to resolve this issue. First, I would try re-creating your iTunes library following the instructions listed here:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
You may also need to simply try restarting your phone and attempting to sync again after a restart. Information on completing this can be found here:

  • Re-installed osx now iPhone see's iTunes as a "new" computer and wont sync

    Help please:)
I had a critical hard drive failure and had not backed up my data.
After a clean install of osx on the same computer with the same hardware, I updated itunes to the latest version. (all fine so far).
before the new install I had sync'd my iPhone and sync'd the iTunes account, music, videos etc to my iPhone.
Now when I try and sync the iPhone I get a message telling me that I can either "cancel" or wipe the iphone and sync from scratch because the "library" is on a new computer !
arrgghh... it's the same box same everything. I even used the same name to re-install osx on my iMac but the iphone and itunes still see's the itunes library as a different computer and wont let me sync without wiping the iphone of all it's data which I cant do. It's all I have left out of about $800 dollars worth of purchased music and stuff. Everything else was lost when I had to wipe the hard drive clean on the iMac!
    Any help please !!
I just want to be able to sync my iPhone with iTunes so I can a) get some of my music & stuff back and b) update my apple account details and c) start sync'ing my iPhone again without worrying about wiping it out !

*it's the same box same everything. I even used the same name to re-install osx on my iMac*
It's the same computer but not the same iTunes library, as you've said in your post the original library was erased. Your iPhone was linked to your previous library, it's not linked to the computer. I presume that all your songs etc. were also erased since you haven't mentioned a back-up anywhere.
If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.

  • I transferred all my music to my new computer, went to sync my iphone and the music library won't sync. It's like it's leaving the old library on and trying to add a duplicate one, keeps saying there isn't enough room. Help please?

Everything from my old computer is still in the music portion of my phone, I don't know how but it hasn't synced that part.  I went through and edited the new library and there are fewer songs, it's telling my I don't have enough room on my phone.  This is impossible when it is less music than I am currently holding.  How do I get it to delete the old information and put on the new library?

How exactly was the music transferred to the new computer?
The correct way is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  If it was transferred properly there are no issues with syncing to the iOS device.

  • ITunes On New Computer Won't Sync To iPod Touch

A couple months ago I got a new laptop. I was able to transfer all my songs over from the iPod Touch (5th Generation) to the computer successfully (including plays w/ a program I downloaded). I made changes to the library since then (deleting some songs and adding some new ones). Today for the first time since I got the new laptop, I tried to sync iTunes (updated) to the iPod 3 times but it wouldn't make any changes. I've yet to update the iOS (my iPod is 2 iOS's behind). If anyone can help, thank you in advance.

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If ll the synced media like apps and music are on the new computer, just backup to iTunes and restore from that backup
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Got a new computer...sync iPod?

I have a 2nd Gen 8 GB iPod Nano and I just got a new laptop. My iPod is synced with my old desktop. I downloaded iTunes and connected my iPod to the computer. It asked me to authorize and I did. iTunes then proceeded to take my purchased music (about 23 total out of about 700 songs on my iPod) and transfer it to iTunes, leaving out the remaining 600-some odd songs.
How do I make my new laptop the one synced with my iPod? Do I really have to burn ALL my songs on a DVD (no one CD will hold 700+ songs..)??
I remember with my old iPod Mini, I simply plugged it into the computer and it copied the songs into iTunes...does this not exist anymore?? Merci [=

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Have a new computer want to sync ipod classic to itunes.

I already transfered files from old computer to new computer via Home Sharing and external hard drived the playlists. now I want to transfer ipod over to new computer. Old computer is gonna be wiped and given to kids. Any ideas how to do this I am lost.

    HI Stormsmom,
You need to set your iPod to "manually manage music" or else iTunes will delete your files in syncing it up.You can read this article for more info:

  • New Computer - Updated iPod - Syncing Issues

    Greetings!
I bought a new computer in January. At that time, I transferred my songs over to my new computer from my old computer using a cross over cable. At that point, both of my iTunes libraries were the same.
Since then I downloaded more songs and updated songs in the library, so I decided to finally sync my iPod classic to the new computer. I knew that I would have to restore the iPod, but since the libraries were the same, there should be no problem, right? Wrong!
Before erasing the iPod and syncing the songs, I stupidly decided to upgrade the software for the iPod (which I haven't done since I got it, due to reading related problems on here). So that goes fine and erase the iPod. Now on to syncing the library.
All the songs sync perfectly. The problem is with my video files. I had these movies on my iPod before I updated and erased the iPod. But now, iTunes says that the files are incompatible! I do not understand since they worked perfectly fine before! What happened?
According to iTunes they are MPEG-4 video files. The movies were made specifically for an iPod, so I do not understand what is going on. I figure that it might be due to the upgrading I did, but when I restore the iPod it always comes back with the same version (since there was no previous version on the new computer).
Is there a way I can fix the MPEG-4 problem or download and install the previous versions of the iPod software since iTunes does not give me an option? Should I try going back to previous version on my older computer (will this even work)? Mainly I would like to know why the MPEG-4 file that worked perfectly before is giving me problems and if it can be fixed.
    Thank you!
    (a frustrated) Lindsay

2/Downloaded 3rd party software to sync and install library from ipod touch into itunes on new computer.
You should have just copied \Music\iTunes\ folder from the old computer to the new computer.
but I can't get all of my applications and some bought items to appear on ipod
Connect thr iPod touch and select it in iTunes.
Click the Applications tab across the top.
Tick the apps you want to install onto the touch.

  • Have a new computer want to sync songs with iphone that is connected to old computer

    have a new laptop
have iphone synced to old laptop (now broken)
want to sync iphone to new itunes but not lose all songs saved on phone
why do apple make things so hard? please help

You are not addressing Apple, this is a user to user support forum. iTunes has always been designed to sync one way, from iTunes to the device. iDevices have always been able to sync to only one computer. It is the user's responsibility to back up their devices to minimize impact in case of failures. The reason this is designed this way also has to do with pirating music, sharing of music with people that do not have authorization to have it due to copyright laws.
I'm sorry, I cannot see why you not having a backup of your computer is Apple's concern. I'd be willing to be that you have not set up any system for backing up your new computer either. Do you backup your iPhone?

  • Help! New Computer, trying to sync

So, I downloaded I Tunes to my new computer, no problem. Authorized it with the ITunes Store, no problem, the problem is, (Sorry if this is a stupid question), I am trying to sync and put all my music currently on my I Phone on to the ITunes in my new computer. But whenever I select Sync, this message appears saying: "Are you sure? all music on I phone will be erased and replaced with music on I Tunes (which is none). How do I transfer my music from my I Phone to I Tunes on my new computer?

I would like to know if there is a way to update the phones software using the new computer without loosing the music that is already on the iphone.
Not unless you have access to the original iTunes library where the music is stored.
the update process involves backing up the phone to the last computer that it synced with, deleting the entire phone content, updating and then restoring the phone.
If you cannot create a backup before updating, you will lose the phone content. You need to be able to back the phone up first - have you never synced it with iTunes on a computer ?

  • New computer and iPhone syncing to iTunes

I bought a new computer and didn't backup old iTunes hard drive . Now iTunes won't sync with my iPhone. It sees it . I followed some instructions , I put all songs back in iTunes via 3rd party, transferred purchases, backup, restore to backup, my phone said restore in progress and it finished restoring. I didn't get the backup - decline or the merge popup. It only sync 1-3 . I can add songs to iTunes but won't sync to phone. My cd won't sync either but the songs are sitting there in iTunes. Can anyone help? I'm not the smartest . So step by step instructions would be awesome!!!!

If you're having trouble syncing your music, check the following:
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings check "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library check all the songs you want to sync to your phone
Make sure there are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
Authorize your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (using Store>Authorize This Computer)
Check "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings

  • ITunes on a new computer won't sync music or ringtones to my iPhone

    Hi,
I recently bought a new computer (Acer touch screen Aspire V5) which uses Windows 8. I downloaded the latest iTunes (11.0.4.4)
I authorised my computer to my iTunes account and was able to download my iTunes purchases and add music from my old computer and CDs etc.
When I plugged in my iPhone 4s it said that it was sync'd to another computer and would I like to change to this one. I downloaded my phone content and said 'yes'
Now when I go to sync my phone it starts the process. At the top of iTunes it says 'Syncing phone Steps 1-5'. It goes thru steps 1 and 2 of preparing to sync and backing up phone then starts step 3 of 5 preparing apps, then stops. No error message or explanation comes up.
I have clicked 'sync only checked songs and videos' in options and tried with it unticked as well.
I have tried deauthorising the computer and authorising it again.
The 'restrictions' setting is off on my phone.
I have run the diagnostics test thru iTunes help and it says the device attached is able to sync.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks, Hollie
