New computer coming in.  I havef a licence for CS4 .  Do I install this on a Windows7 based computer first, then apply the upgrade to CS6 or can I start right from stratch with CS6?

You can start right from the scratch....Put the serial number of CS6 and then serial number of CS4 when asked.

  • New Computer:  Setting it up without losing music

    Hiya:
I just purchased a new laptop, and installed iTunes on it. I'm very cautious concerning my iPod: I don't want all my music to get erased! Is there a way that I can transfer new albums and such from my laptop to my iPod without losing all the songs already on there?

Hey Eileen, Seems as though you have the same legitimate problem as any other new computer purchaser. The way that I would suggest you do it is as follows:
    1) When you plug in the iPod, in itunes it will give you a window, telling about the iPod being linked to another computer and would you like to change it to this computer, select no.
    2) The other pop-up that will showup will be the F:\ or E:\ drive. In this window, go Tools -> Folder Options -> And Select the Radio Button that will ask you to show hidden files and folders. There will be a new folder that will show up on your drive.
    3) Click once on this folder, on the side taks pane, click Copy The Selected Files. Move these files to somewhere easy to find.
    4) One they are copied go into itunes, Select File, Add Folder to Library, and the new file that you added to the computer from the ipod. Select Ok, and your songs should begin to import into the itunes Library. When this is done unplug and plug back in the ipod and when it asks you this time to sync with this library, select yes, and your music will be erased from the ipod and reinstated as a new library in unison with the songs you have on your new Laptop!
    Hope this was helpful.

  • New computer, set up Nano?

I just received a new beautiful computer (thanks, titi!) and i have an ipod nano. Is there anything i need to do to set up this computer to make my ipod work with it? when i plug in my ipod and click "ipod" on the left toolbar thing, i dont see the songs on my ipod, i just see ipod options. How do i view my songs? also, when i put a cd with mp3s in the drive, itunes doesnt acknowledge the fact that there is a cd there and wont play or show it. why?
    Thankyou!

"when i plug in my ipod and click "ipod" on the left toolbar thing, i dont see the songs on my ipod, i just see ipod options. How do i view my songs?"
Click on the little chevron > to the left of the iPod icon in the Source list. This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view with the information at the bottom.
"when i put a cd with mp3s in the drive, itunes doesnt acknowledge the fact that there is a cd there and wont play or show it. why?
To get songs into iTunes from an MP3 CD open the CD in Windows Explorer and drag the files to the iTunes source list. Alternatively choose Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library from the File menu in iTunes and then select the song file or folder you want to add: About the Add to Library, Import and Convert functions

  • New computer set up for performance

i would like to have a bit of help making sure i have configured Pr Ae and Sg to match the peformance my computer can afford.
namely i am not sure how to configure scratch disks render drives and export drives. also id like to make sure that my Quadro 4000 is being taken advantage of as well.
the video tutorial is pretty generic for this. also i think i may not have ordered enough RAM. i have dual 6 core xeon chips with HT that equals 24 threads i believe. i only have 32 GB of RAM installed. should i have 48 GB to really let things fly?
my hard drive configuration is as follows:
256 GB samsung 830 SSD boot with apps
4TB RAID 5 seagate constellations (internal)
256 GB samsung 840 Pro SSD
i will intially work with SD footage via a miniDV camcorder but i plan to move to HD via a Canon 7D very soon. i also have access to a lot of external storage via a LAN that connects me to a dell poweredge server.

Moving this discussion to the Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, & CS6 forum.

  • A Varation on the How do I move my music to a new computer question.

I have a new (Win 7) computer with which I want to use my I-Tunes music library.  Currently the library itself resides on an extern (USB) hard drive connected to my old computer (Win XP).  However, the library files (itl and xml) reside on the internal hard drive of the old computer.
My problem is that part of the transfer is easy and obvious, but the rest of it seems unclear to me.
I'm pretty sure I could just plug the external drive into the new computer, and in ITunes on the new computer, set the folder location on the hard drive as the location of my library and then add the content to the library and have access to my full library.
Except, I would not have the play-lists.  They are sitting in the itl file on the old computer.
So, my question is:  How do I move that information as well?
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    John

    Carbon Copy Cloner -or-
You could remove the HD and put it in an External Enclosure -or-
Maybe try using Apple's Migration Assistant -and finally-
Once you have the new computer set up you may want to use Time Machine

  • Old computer died - need to get itunes songs/apps on new computer

Our old computer has died. Repair guy is able to retrieve files from hard drive. My kids have an ipod nano and ipod touch. How do we get the new computer set up and get all of the songs/apps/movies onto the new computer? Should I ask repair guy to look for specific file on hard drive or will itunes get info from their ipods when they plug in?

You should contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations (Do not ask for more than that or they might not help).
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • HT5312 I have just upgraded to a new computer and cannot remember my security questions can you help me please

I would like to have my security questions reset I don't remember my answer for my favorite car. I just had a new computer set up because my xp was outdated

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Transfer library to new computer after old one crashed

My old PC crashed and the data partition has completely been erased so now all of my music only exists in my iPod. I have a new laptop and would like to transfer my library to the new computer, however I'm worried that it may just erase the music if I just plug it into the new computer. The current setting is on auto-synch and not manual. Can I just install iTunes onto my new computer, set it to manual, and plug in the iPod? Suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Tim!
I'll answer your question in just a minute but before doing so I'd like to say that I hope you take this as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, you will want to include your iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.
Anyways, that's the lecture. The answer to your problem should be found in this post:

Good Luck! But once your music is back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

  • HT202213 I have a new computer we set up with itunes home sharing. Can I add music to this new computer sync my iphone and ipod to it instead of the original computer. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if I have a different apple id than with our orig

I have a new computer that we set up with itunes home sharing and I need some assistance. I also have my own apple id and would like to make the new computer the one I use for my music. Should I set up a whole new itunes library/account or still work with the home sharing?

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • HT1692 Have recently installed itunes and outlook on a new computer.  Have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook tho only use contacts and calendar in relation to one of these. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, Help!

My new computer is 64-bit running Windows 7 pro, SP1 and Microsoft Office 2010 Pro Plus 32-bit
My phone is a 4S runing iOS 6.1.3
Very frustrated now that I have recently installed itunes and outlook on this new computer.  Everything worked perfectly ok on my laptop which was also 64-bit Windows 7 and running 32-bit Microsoft Office 2010 Pro.  I have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook tho only use contacts and calendar in relation to one of these. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, when I sync the calendar and contacts are empty.  Not sure if there is any way to point itunes to particular address books and calendars.
I have installed and uninstalled itunes 3 times and thank goodness have a backup
    Can anyone help please?
    thanks in anticipation

I had my home computer set up to sync to work's Exchange server. It worked well, but I didn't like seeing work email messages and other programs trying to sync with my default Outlook folder, which was then the Exchange (& work related) .ost file. I know there are various ways to manage those problems using filters, view, subfolders, etc., but it was a hassle for me. I think it could work well for many other folks.
For now, I have published my work calendar and subscribed to that calendar on my home computer. So I have view only access to my calendar on my home computer (and I can add/edit calendar items on my iPad (or Outlook Web Access) when away from work). This is not quite what I wanted, but it may work.
It almost makes me long for the days when I used my Windows Mobile Treo to sync back and forth between exchange at work and outlook at home (but had many sync conflicts as a result).

  • How do I combine Thunderbird setups each accessing different sets of multiple email accounts on 2 old computers into one Thunderbird setup on my new computer?

The laptop accesses my personal email accounts (4 different ones) and my business email accounts (2 different ones). The old desktop accesses my personal email accounts and my wife's emails (2 accounts for her). I now have a new desktop computer and I would like to access all accounts from a single Thunderbird. It would be extremely tedious to start a new Thunderbird and enter all the account information for all of these multiple accounts from a fresh start and re-download all the emails. I know I can backup the Thunderbird profiles separately and restore them to separate Thunderbird instances on two separate users, but it is a pain to switch users each time one of us needs to see a different email account. If the multiple accounts cannot be restored into a singe new Thunderbird instance, is there a way to set up two Thunderbird instances on a single user's desktop and restore one computer's backup into one Thunderbird and the other into the second? Thank you.

Setting up the accounts anew in a fresh installation is probably the least tedious part of all this.
Merging your various email stores is ikely to involve moving gigabytes of data. You don't want to do that piecemeal.
I'd start with the most recent of your profiles and install that into the new Thunderbird. Then I'd add the required accounts whilst the old computers are accessible to double-check their settings for the accounts.
Then I'd import the mail stores from the older profiles using https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
You haven't indicated if any or many of these accounts use IMAP, in which case all you need to do is set up the account on the new computer and the stored data will find its own way in.
While you have all your old profiles marshalled, it would be worth your while to import address book files too, using: https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html to retrieve the *.mab files.

  • We just purchased a new computer and need to set up Itunes on it for the 3 members of our family.  What is the best way to go about that?

We have just purchased a new home computer and need to set up I-Tunes for everyone in our family.  Is that possible to do on one computer?

To have  EVERYTHING  as it is Now...
    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
    Full Details Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.
