New computer - slow encoding!

I got a new computer Saturday and had hoped to see a difference in encoding time, but thus far it appears to be about the same. Specs are: Windows 8.1 (64), 32GB RAM, i7 4770 @ 3.5Ghz, GeForce GTX760 (not CUDA supported), 120GB SSD for OS and Adobe, and Adobe CC 2014. I've got a 4 minute video that I shot in 29.97fps 1080p and am exporting to same. Only effects are Warp Stabilizer and a couple Lumetri Looks effects. All have been rendered. AME 2014 took approximately 45 minutes to export. I checked the memory settings, and 27GB of the 32GB is usable by Premiere, AME, etc, and has been optimized for performance. My old computer had CUDA support, and this one doesn't - is this the major difference? However, render time in Premiere is significantly faster. Do I have some settings wrong that are slowing down export speed?

In re-reading your initial post, it seems that you had rendered the timeline (red to green), is that correct? But since the export in AME still took 45 minutes, can I assume that you did not check "Use Previews" in AME? Seems that maybe everything has to render again at export?
This link has some good info about rendering in Premiere - http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2011/02/red-yellow-and-green-render-bars.html
Basically, even if you have red bars above segments in your Premiere sequence, there is no requirement to render those areas. If playback is smooth enough for you to see what you're doing, then don't worry about it, leave it red. When you export in AME, everything gets rendered at that point, and from the original source clip, for best results. If you render the timeline to green, that creates new clips behind the scenes, and if you then check "Use Previews" in AME, it re-renders those temporary rendered clips to the desired final format. So you now have a "copy of a copy", so you are losing some quality with that method.
Hope this helps with the workflow

  • New computer = slow internet and email

A few months ago my Dell laptop motherboard died and since it was still on warranty Dell sent me a new laptop.  I also use a wireless router. This computer has way more capacity and memory than my previous computer and so far so good.  Except: When I try to delete emails in Outlook that come from a website, it takes FOREVER. It sits there and spins and sometimes I get the "not responding" message. I'm attaching some messages I occasionally get in Outlook.  I also have that slow problem when I'm browsing web sites (Firefox). It's intermittent but especially toward the end of the day it slows down and sometimes just doesn't respond to anything.  If I shut down my browser and restart immediately the problem goes away. Yes, my virus scan is working; I regularly clear my browser history and use a cleaner to remove useless files.  I'm trying to give you pertinent information since I just am not technologically smart enough to even know where to look for the cause of this problem so please keep any responses as non-techie as possible.   Can anyone help? It is so aggravating!! Thanks!!

Are these the settings you have set for Outlook?  Do check each one.

  • FF 27.0.1 very slow download/resolving clicked links/resolve reloads. Computer slows to a halt. New Win7.

Firefox has been running extraordinarily slow. Pages takes sometimes minutes (really) to download/resolve; clicking on links on a page takes many seconds, up to a minute, to register, then the click takes more time to resolve. Autoreloading pages take many minutes to resolve. While all this is going on, the computer slows down, and typing will slow to an almost halt. Characters take many seconds to show up, selected text takes many seconds to register, etc. This is a new computer, 12G of RAM, lots of hard drive. My bf is currently sharing this computer and uses IE. I'm now filling in this form on IE because FF was so painfully slow. And, btw, I don't have a large number of tabs open. About 15 right now.
I took one suggestion from a FF support page and revised my upon-opening to restore all last pages/tabs. I then closed and reopened FF. It is better, but IE has been open at least as long, has many, many more tabs open, and is using a ridiculous amount of memory per tab/groups of tabs, and it is lightning fast. I used to use IE, switched to FF about 2 years ago when IE became too unstable...but I am very seriously considering switching back to IE if FF continues to slow down so drastically and so quickly. And continues to crash without warning. Please don't suggest opening in safe mode....not going to happen. Apparently, from what I can read on your site and other places, FF has become another bloated program that becomes useless after a short time - many, many complaints of very slow loading, etc. Can you please fix this, please.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Slow brand new computer

Hello I recently bought A HP all in one 23 p111 desktop . I have the comp hard wired to the innernet modeum as well and internet speed test is very fast and my wife mac is going lightning fast ! My computer is slow!!!!! moving from page to page is slow looking anything on internet is slow as well . I am quite low-tech but dontunderstand how this brand new computer works like a commadore lol.  I paid good money and am very displeased , ive had it for two weeks . thank you ,
    Alec martin

    Hello,
Well first go to task manager (right click on taskbar) and check how many processes are running in the background. If theres too many delete the ones you don't need as it takes up your ram.
Another thing is to get a program like AVG Tuneup to try make the computer more faster as there might be issues but I highly doubt that.
Last thing to do is consider replacing your processor as yours is 2 .0 ghz.
I suggest going to around 2.5 ghz - 3.0 ghz or more as your computer would be super fast for a couple of years.
    Hope this helps

  • Brand new computer is super slow and makes a clicking noise

My brand new computer is super slow and makes a clicking noise. Any suggestions? I have a lenovo X120e, purchased it around 2 months ago but due to moving across the country just started using it, not so happy so far but I would be happier if it would speed up a bit. Every click takes a while to register especially during browsing on the internet.

Can you run the ThinkVantage Toolbox's HDD diagnostics?
Alternatively, try HD Tune's error scan and check it's SMART page for warnings.

  • Hey, let's make a new friggin' slow iPod and tell you to buy a new computer

Does anyone else think it's really stupid that anyone who bought a 12" G4 Powerbook two years ago, who also buys the new video iPod, will have an incredibly slow update time? As in, EIGHT HOURS for 3,500 songs?
I have a 1.1 USB port on my computer, it needs a 2.0, but there isn't a slot on the 12" Powerbook to insert a converter (it's only on 15" and up). My old iPod worked just fine with Firewire, and at the Apple store, the guys who worked there were all like, "You have to update your technology, Apple isn't going to go back for you." Right. I'm going to buy a new computer to accommodate their stupid iPod wrongdoings.
They said there's no way to change the USB port. Is there?
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Did you not read the specs for the new iPod when you bought it? Or did you just assume that it would have FireWire support? All the press I read on the 5G iPods clearly spelled out that FW was no longer supported. Getting torked and embittered at Apple for your lack of consumer-awareness seems a little misplaced...
Until the converter cable mentioned in the other reply becomes available, you're stuck with USB 1.1 speeds. The upside is that the initial transfer was the worst part of it - unless you're constantly expanding your music library exponentially..

  • I have purchased a new computer with Windows 8.1 and the old computer had Windows Vista  and was very slow.   I need to uninstall Adobe Creative Suite 3 and put it on the new computer.  Is this possible and what do I need to do?

I have purchased an new computer with the Windows 8.1 OS.  The old computer had Windows Vista and is just about to quit working altogether.  I wish to uninstall it on that computer and deactivate it; so that I may install the software that I purchased (some years ago, but hardly used) on my new computer.  Is that allowed and do I have the right idea about doing it?  I have the serial number
and all that with the software.

  • I just got a new computer and firefox 4. Why is my internet moving so slow?

Every time I click the little green circle spins forever. I have yet to watch a video strait through. For instance a 3 minute clip can take as much as 15 minutes. I would like to know how to check my internet connection and find out what is going on here. I have an old Netgear wireless router and I'm directly connected to it. this new computer is supposed to be able to connect wireless also. Any ideas?

In windows explorer I type in AVG Safe Search and get: EGa7W2xnNto and then click it and get: Error message with the path at a C prompt. So my guess is it may be in the computer. What should I do now? No MacAfee.

  • Installed Itunes on new computer and transferring songs to playlist is extremely slow

New computer purchased, running Windows 7, and after installing Itunes it takes forever to transfer music to playlists.  It takes about 1-2 minutes to tranfer the song to the playlist.
I downloaded Itunes the first time and lost the dialog box to finish installing so I downloaded again and installed.  Music is on an external hard drive connected via an USB port.
What can I do to speed up the transfer process?
    Thanks

  • Old Flash/New Computer

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a long time. I bought a copy
of Flash back in late 2001/early 2002 and installed it on my
computer and used it often. Five years later my computer got very
old and slow and it was time to get a new computer. I was able to
get a computer from somebody who had hardly used it at all but had
lost my Flash disc and the envelope it was in. Anyways, I had Flash
on my C drive and moved all that stuff over to the new computer but
now when I try to open Flash it asks for my name and serial number
of my purchase. What do I do though if that information is lost? If
anybody thinks I am talking about a bootleg copy, I am not. I have
the receipt for my purchase and it shows up in my Amazon order
history. Is there any way to still be able to use my copy?

Please don't be snide. I tried to help you in the only way
possible. Your original serial number is buried in the Windows
Registry. You won't find it there, since it is encoded when it is
recorded in the Registry. When you move a system disk to a new
computer with new hardware - motherboard, CPU, network card, etc. -
Windows and many apps (though probably not Flash) alter their
registry settings - that is, the registration is often tied to your
hardware settings without you realizing it. If your new computer
has a new installation of Windows, then there is no registry
setting for Flash at all. If you also moved Windows from the old
computer to the new one, I'm surprised it worked without having to
go through a new registration of Windows itself. In any case, some
of the Windows registry settings would have changed.
Before you moved your hard disk to a new system, you should
have gone through ALL your apps and written down pertinent
    information and backed up everything.
If you don't have the original install package with the
printed serial number, you're pretty much out of luck. You might
try contacting Adobe Sales with your proof of purchase, and there
is a SMALL chance they'll want to help you.
The only other solution is to take out the old computer,
reinstall the hard disk, start Flash and write down the serial
    number.
If anyone has a better solution, I'll be damn
    surprised.

  • I have made the mistake of buying a new computer. How do I get all my accessabilty back? I also made the mistake of updating.

Ok. So first of all I bought a new computer. The old one completely crashed no longer can get anything out of it. I threw it away.
I backed up my Iphone on the new computer and did the sync. iTunes asked me to update so I did. Now I can not delete songs from my iPhone.
I am using a windows system. This means if I open iTunes once and then close it I have to turn my computer off and start again.
I admit having a huge rant on this forum before but I am getting really frustrated agian. On te old system it was easy to make songs into ring tones by making it into an aac version. Now it seems I have to buy ringtones????  What is up with that?????
Can anyone point me in the right direction???

For ringtones, iTunes > Preferences > General >Import Settings... button > choose Import using AAC encoder to enable Create AAC version from .m4a and mp3 files.

  • HT201272 Why does my new computer only show very few of my previous purchases?

Inherited an iMac that had had many many users.  The thing was pretty junked up and slow, so I decided to have a brand new OS installed. So basically it is  a new computer.   However, when I try to download previous purchases in iTunes I can only find the last two albums I bought.  It does not even recognoze that I have purchased other music.  When I was sharing the computer with others I had no trouble downloading all of my purchases.  So, where are the rest of my purchased albums?

  • New computer choice question

    Hello:
I am a windows user currently using XP Pro to run CS3, and my system (2G memory, core duo laptop) is pretty slow when editing video on Premier Pro and using After Effects. I am thinking about getting a high end HP desktop with 64 bit windows vusta, 4 GB memory, and core quad. i have heard some bad things about vista and not possibly that a 64 bit system would actually penalize CS3 performance (??) -- my question -- is the system i am considering a good option for CS3 premiere pro and After Effects?
    any input would be appreciated.

For starters, one of the biggest mistakes people make is using their editing rig for other tasks. Ideally, you'll need two computers, one for editing and one for everything else. Often times it's the "everything else" loaded onto the editing rig that slows things down.
So, if your laptop is used for other things, maybe a new computer would be a good idea. But if you already have a desktop for "everything else", then just make sure nothing is installed onto the laptop but the programs you need for video production.

  • New video card or new computer?

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 (8-core) and I upgraded my video card to an Geforce GT 120 in order to run Final Cut Pro X. I have 10 GB of ram and am running 10.7.1. FCPX is somewhat annoying to work in that scrubbing seems to lag and the user interface generally seems to be slow. I just walked down to the Apple store and tried it on a 2010 Mac Pro (quad core with 3Gb ram) with an Radeon 5770 and it was MUCH more responsive.
So, my question is: would I get close to the kind of performance I saw in the store by upgrading my graphics card (again) to a 5770 or even a 5870 or will I be throwing good money after bad and should really be looking at getting a new computer or just living with the stuttering (the most likely option)?
    Thanks very much!
    Brian

In briefly looking at the specs of the two cards, it looks to me like the Radeon 5770 blows the GT 120 away. I also can't see why an 2008 8-core Mac Pro with 10GB would be a bottleneck for FCPX.
My advice would be to try upgrading your video card, especially since the 5770 is still pretty cheap relatively speaking (especially compared to a brand new computer).
If you buy the card from somewhere like Amazon, I think you can return it with just a restocking fee. (if it doesn't work out, that is)
Finally, one thing to check on -- do you have more than one video card installed at the moment? There've been reports of performance issues when you have more than one card installed. If that's the case, remove your other card and give things a try again. But my best guess is that upgrading to the 5770 will really improve things for you.

  • I want to transfer my iPhoto pics to my new computer, but how?

I have an old dome based iMac running tiger. I want to transfer data to my newer duo core iMac. I bought a USB 32 gb storage device by lexor to load data from my old and put it on my new. When I plug the device into the USB port I see nothing to indicate it is present. How do you use on of these things? No instructions were included.

On the package the new USB flash drive came in, is there any indication of
which Mac OS X version is supported by the portable storage device?
The latest USB flash drive, such as the Lexar 32GB, is USB3.0 speed
and likely is not backward compatible to USB1.1. So try something less
ambitious for use with the ancient PowerPC iMac G4.
Could be that one is not supported, and since the old iMac may have only
USB1.1 speed ports, to attempt to fill the capacity at that speed would be
super slow. A faster method, if you had correct cabling and know-how,
would be to use FireWire. This may require an adapter for the new Mac
since some of them do not have FireWire ports; so it may require a FW
to Thunderbolt adapter between computers so the files can be moved.
(With that, it may be possible to boot the old iMac PPC in Target Disk Mode,
and move --drag/drop-- folders of images from the old iMac hard drive to
a location, perhaps a folder, on the desktop of the new Mac.)
If you weren't dealing with desktop computers, the Apple Store could have
helped transfer your files from the old to new computer. There is a setup
or migration assistant that can help.
Do you have an externally enclosed hard disk drive already in use w/ old Mac?
To use smaller capacity USB flash drives of compatible specs may work OK
but could still take quite a bit of time to move to/from the chip between Macs.
Is the PowerPC iMac actually running Tiger 10.4.1, or is that 10.4.11?
A difference would mean later driver support, maybe.
    Good luck & happy computing!
