I'm finally getting a decent machine to handle Aperture 3:
Intel i7-3820 4.67GHz Quad Core
32GBs DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
120GB SATA6GBp/s SSD (OS & Application Drive)
Nvidia GTS 450 1GB DDR3 Video Card
120GB SATA6GBp/s SSD Scratch Drive
3TB 7,200rpm 64MB Cache Hard Drive (backup & storage)
It will run OS Lion 10.7.5
Current machine is an early 2006 i mac core duo with 2GB of ram (lets not talk about that)
Current workflow involves referenced masters (480GB worth) stored on an external 500GB firewire drive, and the library (46GB) on the HD.
I keep a vault for the library, and back-up all the raw files to another external.
(my raw image files run about 25MB each)
With this new machine, I'll be moving from a Fiesta to a Ferrari, and I might need some driving lessons!
Any advice will be appreciated.

Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

That depends on how you do it.
By far the best, easiest, most reliable method is to use Setup Assistant when your shiny new Mac first starts up, to transfer your apps, users, data, etc. That doesn't disturb either the OS or basic Apple apps that came with the new Mac. See Using Setup Assistant on Mountain Lion or Lion.
There is a facility to restore an entire system from Time Machine backups, including the version of OSX on the backup, but that's for use when your internal HD has been erased or replaced only. It's not a good idea to restore the full backup of one Mac to a different one. Depending on the circumstances, the installer may not allow it. Even if it does, the Mac may not start up, or may kernel panic, or not work properly.

I have a new computer, and I downloaded a new iTunes for my iPod, but it only transferred my Purchased Songs to my Library, not the other mp3s. Now when I go to add more mp3s and sync, it will add it to my Library, but not my iPod itself... What happened?

I want to add more songs, but I cannot figure out how to sync my iPod to actually transfer my mp3s. I had done it before, which is how I have most of my songs, but I don't know what I can do without totally erasing everyhing and starting over... Which I don't want to do, because I have a new computer and no old files. I'll have to do that if worst comes to worst, I guess. Hoping there's some other way around it.

You can only synce an iPod to one iTunes Library/one computer. However, you can manage music among different computer . see:

If you want to transfer non-iTunes purchased music from an iPod to a computer other than the one you synced the music from you need to use a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

Since your old computer is now longer working, the only songs that can easily be transferred are the ones you have purchased from iTunes. If you can access the files from the hard drive of the old computer, you can import those songs into the iTunes library on your new computer. Otherwise, you will need to re-import those songs from their original sources, be it CDs, file sharing sites, etc.

Yippee! New computer starts ok...new questions...

Hi, everyone. My new system starts ok and boots up fine. Bios all set up. I am leaving bios 1.3 in since it's working fine. Not OC'ing. Next step is to load Windows XP Pro, I would assume.
My question is; what drivers should I load or not load for the mobo? (I have downloaded the latest from MSI rather than use the CD that came with the mobo.) For example, I see people say not to load Corecell and not to load the IDE SW drivers. (No IDE hard drives are in use on the new computer.)
What network drivers? I think I've seen that people are having trouble with a certain driver? Ver. 6.66? And should use 6.53???
What Realtek sound drivers?
I could also use a guide or tutorial for connecting XP to a router I already have. (Linksys WRT54G). For now it won't be wireless. Does it matter which RJ-45 jack to use on the mobo?

I think you should use the standart nforce driver provided by nvidia. yes do not use the IDE driver provided by nvidia, it could cause problems with optical drives.

You should be able to use both lan ports onboard....you should try which one works best for you....

That is not normally a problem. It is usually possible to export from one browser and import to the other. What is the browser on the older XP is that firefox or Internet Explorer? and if firefox is it an up to date version eg 3.6 ?
You also need some way to transfer the files, standard methods may include over a wifi network, or by copying to media such as a CD or a FlashDrive.

Yes, you only have a limit of 5 authorised computers that are linked to your account.
(You can deauthorise all of them if you reach the limit but you can only do this once a year)

I dissagree.
If your new computer contains a SSD drive then you must turn on FV first.
Why?
Because studies have shown that you can not successfully securely erase an SSD drive. What this means is that once you put any sensitive data on a SSD drive, even if you encrypt it later and "secure delete" the non encrypted data, it is still possible to recover quite easily.
Bottom line, if you have a SSD or Fusion Drive on your new computer, enable FV PRIOR to coping over any data from your old computer.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
