new computer,  want keep ipod music from old computer to new?

Hi mtscott41,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have music on an iPod from your old computer. You now have a new computer but do not want to have the music from the iPod erased when you sync to the new computer. If the music on your iPod was purchased from iTunes you can either transfer those purchases from the iPod to your new computer’s iTunes Library or you can download the previously purchased content directly to your iTunes Library from iTunes. Please use the following article as reference for transferring purchases.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

The following article will show you how to download all of your previous purchases directly to iTunes if you would like to proceed this way.
Download past purchases

If the music on your iPod was not purchased from iTunes and you still have the old computer, you may want to use a process called Home Sharing to transfer that content to your new computer. The following article explains Home Sharing.

I hope this helps,

By using home share the music library including CD's I have added to iTunes have transferred to new computer.  When I shut down thw old computer it loses all transferred music.

That's because it's shared and not transferred or copied. You need to select the content you want to copy and click the import button at the bottom right of the home share window.

I am a new Mac owner and would like to move my music from my old PC to my Mac book pro. I have an iPhone but when I connect it the music doesn't show up in iTunes. Help!

Just netwrok the 2 computers together and copy the music over from the PC to the Mac.
If you have a problem networking them you could use a external USB hard drive or large USB thumb drive to copy the music to on the PC then move that drive to the Mac and copy it to the Mac hard drive.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

    What "ipod registration"?
    Plug it in and sync.
It will erase your content form the ipod and replace with content from the new computer.  Make sure you have copied everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one first.

OK, well, seems like you need to lose the attitude if you really want help.
There are several ways to get music from iTunes on your computer to your device.
The easiest is to sync directly with iTunes by connecting your device to your computer, selecting the device, setting up your Profile pages, and then clicking the Sync button to sync.
First you want to open iTunes and under Preferences>Devices, make sure that you are not syncing automatically:
Make sure that box is checked.
Then follow the instructions in the article below for either your computer or your Mac to set up your Profile pages and to sync your music via iTunes:
    WINDOWS IOS SYNC ITUNES 11
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
You can also directly download music from iTunes to your device by going to the iTunes icon, going to "Purchased", and selecting the items that are not on your device that show a little cloud next to them. Click on the cloud and the music will download.
You might also want to familiarize yourself with your iPhone 5 manual. It has all the answers you cannot find on Google or by trying to just do it by brute force. If you would take a little time to read about your device and how to use it, you might not be so frustruated and unnecessarily snarky to people who are trying to help:

  • How can I get music from old mac to new mac?

How can I get music from old mac to new mac please?
Can't seem to make Migration Assistant work. Doesn't ask about or transfer files.

I just migrated into a new MBP from an old one.
It did not bring the music over.  Apple's instructions are to use the Home Sharing feature of iTunes.
Open iTunes on your old Mac.  Select Home Sharing under the Advanced menu.  Sign in.  Do the same on your new computer.  Then when the library appears under Home Sharing on the left-hand panel on your new computer's iTunes, you can select all and Add To Library.
    That's what Apple says, anyway.

  • How do I transfer ipod playlist from old ipad to new ipad?

How do I transfer ipod playlist from old ipad to new ipad?

Is this a playlist you created on your old iPad, or a playlist you created with iTunes on your computer?
If the former, you should have been prompted to transfer the backup for your old iPad to your new iPad the first time you connected your new iPad to iTunes on the computer used for syncing your old iPad. If not or you declined, you need to restore your new iPad from the backup of your old iPad.
If the playlist was created with iTunes on your computer, transfer the playlist from your iTunes library on your computer to your new iPad via the iTunes sync process.

    Hello try again
All your media should be in iTunes so you can sync using iTunes to get the music over. If you have any purchases from the iTunes Store you may transfer them to your iTunes library.

  • Getting music from old computer to new computer.

Ok. My problem currently is that I want to bring music from my old computer to my new one but my old computer is literally destroyed. My notebook had a fatal error and won't work period I've tried everything. So I never got the opportunity to adjust my ipod accordingly. A few of my songs are not payed for and I'd really like them still. So if anyone has any suggestions or ways to get my 1000+ songs back please let me know. I'm only 16 so please don't make your replies very confusing.

If you have songs on your iPod there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from it. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Here are links to some other examples:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
One more thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes on another computer. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Moving music from old computer to new computer

I recently purchased my MacBook Pro and I am trying to move all of my music from my old computer to this one. You might think that simply copying the songs to an iPod (as files, not music that can be listened to) and trasferring them to the desired computer would solve my problem. However, this has proved unsucessful so far. I am trying to avoid importing all of my backup CDs because the album artwork would be lost. Is there a way to hook my two computers up via FireWire or something else? The computer I want to transfer music from is an iMac - one of the new flat panels but without the built in iSight so it has FireWire ports. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

If your iPod is large enough, you can transfer the library without loosing anything (ratings, play counts etc.) using these instructions:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer.
Another method is to connect your computers by Ethernet or Firewire.
Using the latter method, put the source computer in Firewire target disk mode. The MacBook will see the iMac as an external HD.
You can then copy all your music to the MacBook.
If your MacBook has the same file structure (folder mapping and username) of the iMac, copy the entire iTunes folder (including iTunes Music folder and the library files) to the same location on your MacBook. iTunes will recognize the library and find all songs.
    Hope this helps.
