New computer--how to transfer library?
I want to move my library to a new computer. Is there a way to do this? I tried just syncing the ipod onto itunes on the new computer but it gives me the message that the ipod is already with another library. HELP?!
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. If you still have access to your original computer you can also use the iPod as an external drive and transfer the iTunes folder to the new one: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer -
Moved to new computer - how to transfer library?
I have moved to a new computer and want to transfer my ipod library to the new computer. Can I do this?
You have two options:
Copy the Library and the song files from the old PC to the new PC (preferred): http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1366018
Recover the songs from the iPod to the new PC: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1365113

New computer - want to move library - insert blank disc - gets popped out
I bought a new computer and want to move my library. I followed the Apple instructions and put my blank Office Depot CD-R 52x 700MB disc in the drive and it gets popped out and the message is "insert disc". My drive is listed in the available burning drives. Anybody have any ideas?

New computer, want to transfer music.
I recently got a new computer, and my itunes music, movies, app, etc. were on the old one. We want to get rid of the old computer. Is there anyway i can transfer my music to the new computer, or do i have to repurchase it all again?
Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have a read of this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
You can't use the iPod touch as it doesn't have a disk mode but you can use either recordable discs, an external hard drive or a network connection in place of the iPod transfer part.
Do let us know how you get on.

Please Help!
I got a new computer. I just installed iTunes. How do I get the stuff that was on my phone to my iTunes? When I synced it, it didn't transfer anything.Doesn't work that way. I am sure if you try a search here first you will find it asked a lot and answered.
There is a link to some KnowledgeBase article. But the process is you need to transfer all your old data from your old computer to the new one. Then you sync.
The iPhone is NOT a backup device and not meant to have things come off. It is meant to sync with a library (mimic your computer). -
New Computer - can't transfer library
I have a new computer, the old one is out of action. Any advice I can see for synching my IPod with new computer requires access to the old on which isn't an option for me. Oddly, I can synch purchased music but not non purchased - does anyone have suggestions? Thanks, Scotlad

Copy your iTunes Library from your Old computer, or it’s Backup, to your New computer...
See Here for one way

Or...
From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
An Added Bonus is that you will then have a Backup of iTunes...

New computer, want keep ipod music from old computer to new?
new computer, want keep ipod music from old computer to new?
Hi mtscott41,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have music on an iPod from your old computer. You now have a new computer but do not want to have the music from the iPod erased when you sync to the new computer. If the music on your iPod was purchased from iTunes you can either transfer those purchases from the iPod to your new computer’s iTunes Library or you can download the previously purchased content directly to your iTunes Library from iTunes. Please use the following article as reference for transferring purchases.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
The following article will show you how to download all of your previous purchases directly to iTunes if you would like to proceed this way.
Download past purchases
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If the music on your iPod was not purchased from iTunes and you still have the old computer, you may want to use a process called Home Sharing to transfer that content to your new computer. The following article explains Home Sharing.
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer

I hope this helps,

ITunes on my new computer wants to erase my iPhone music
iTunes on my new computer wants to erase my iPhone music when syncing and put that library on it. I have albums on my iPhone that aren't on my computer and I don't want them erased. Am I screwed?
Yes, I know. The problem is that my old computer died before I could back up a few albums that the original hard copies were stolen.
Like you said I can only use one. If I use the new one it says it will erase those albums from my phone that are not on my new computer's iTunes. Some of these albums are out of print now. I even have a few songs on an iTunes purchase that didn't go to my new iTunes via the cloud ( but are on my iPhone). I checked for available downloads and it says nothing is there. -
i just bought a new computer, can i transfer itunes from my old computer to my new computer with my music in it or do i have to sync all my cds again
Hi,
A painless way to do it ...
From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

My new computer wants to wipe out my sons apps on his iphone and he will lose all of his "progress" in the games he had loaded on already. Is there a way to save th info from all the apps and still designate the new computer as his new primary one?

New computer, can't carry library from ext. HD
Just bought new computer last night. iTunes library has been stored on external hard drive for some time now. Installed iTunes on new computer, no music found. Default iTunes music folder location under Preferences was C:/My Music/iTunes... Changed it to F:/SimpleDrive/My Music/iTunes music... Still no music in my library. I am certain the HD is properly connected because I can play songs from my library on Windows Media. Feel like I'm missing a step here. Please help! Thanks!
iTunes keeps track of a library through the database file (.itl) found in the iTunes folder. iTunes does not automatically find music in a folder or on a drive. So on your old computer, there should be an ITL and an XML file in the iTunes folder. If you copy those to the new computer overwriting the ones there, iTunes should then see your library. Those database files contain what is in your iTunes library, among other things, so without the old one, iTunes has no library until you add stuff to it.

I have a new computer , want to install CS5 and deactivate from old. Problem is my CS5 is an upgrade and needs a older version of Elements which I no longer have. Any suggestions?
you don't need the previous version that was upgraded. you just need the serial number of the previous version.
but, if you want the previous version:
