Authorize the new computer first - launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this computer. Then you can proceed.
1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

I switched my windows main computer and do not have how to backup or add files to my current iPod nano on my new computer - what to do?

When connecting ipad to itunes, in the Summary tab (in itunes for your device), look in the Backups section and choose to back up to itunes.

  • I am getting a new computer: what do I need to backup onto an external hard drive so that I will be able to sync the ipad with the new computer without losing anything?

I am getting a new computer and need to be sure to back things up from the old computer in order to put everything onto the new computer.  I know that itunes music I have uploaded from cd's will not sync from ipad to new computer, but what else should I be aware I will lose when I move to sync with the new computer?

IMHO the best solution is to clone your disk. That will give you a copy of everything. You can do that with either SuperDuper or CCC.

  • Syncing to a new computer: What will I lose?

Hello, and thanks for any help in advance.
I'm biting the bullet and syncing my phone to a new computer so that I can continue to add music and such to it via iTunes. I want to know what I should expect to lose in the process, since I can't seem to find a straightforward answer...
I realize I'll lose all of my music on the phone. What else, though? Will my contacts disappear too? I'm assuming the synced photos will be gone as well. I ran a back up, but I'm not sure what that does, exactly. What about my text message and call history?
I'm just looking to find out what I'll lose and what will still be on the phone after this process is done, so that I know now whether or not I need to figure out a way to save the data I may lose.

Before you sync to the new computer, just copy all the tunes from your old computer to the new one and build playlists on the new one. Copy your contact info and calendar info as well. Photos too, if you sync them. Then when you sync your phone to the new computer, tell it to sync the new playlists, and the contacts and calendar. At the end of the sync, you'll have all the stuff you had before -- no need to lose anything at all.

  • Buying a new computer, what to get?

(Warning: Long post ahead; I'm quite thorough =p )
I've been around town; Best Buy, Staples, C. City, Dell etc. looking for a new computer. My current computer is only 2 years old and it's already atrociously obsolete (only 448 megs RAM), and rather than upgrading I decided to just buy a new one.
Well, the problem is that at all the places I go, their definition of a "gaming" computer is some monster powerhouse that can play games and end world hunger all at once; usually costing well over 1000 dollars. I'm 16, I don't have $1.5k to spend on a computer. My budget is <$600.
Another problem is the stock video cards. They're almost always "NVIDIA 6150" cards... my current computer already has one of those, and I'd like something better (preferably something that Spore supports, since that's my goal), unless it can do more than I'm giving it credit for.
So, here's what I would like at the lowest possible price.
-A moderate gaming computer; does not need to be able to play Xbox 360/Wii/PS3 graphic games (eg: Call of Duty, Fallout 3, etc.). Should be able to play other games well, however (eg: Spore, World of Warcraft, etc.). I would assume a good Nvidia card above 6150 (not 7100 though) will fit this purpose okay. Games don't have to be played on the absolute highest resolution, etc. but the lagging/skipping/stalling of my current computer makes them unplayable, and I don't want that to happen.
-4 gigs RAM, as that seems to be most common. 3gigs will do, though.
-Any size HD, but 300gig+ preferred
-Processor can be Duo or Quad, but power should be 2.4ghz+ (total). AMD or Intel preferred, but whatever I can get will do.
The rest, I really don't care about. I've got all the accessories (keyboard, mouse, monitor, speaker, etc.) so bundles aren't needed.
I'm not up for building my own computer as I don't have the time, skill, or resources to do so. In regards to the video card, all the stock computers I've found have the following:
    -Nvidia 6150
    -Nvidia 7100
    -Intel GMA 3100
-Radeon 3450 (rare, and usually expensive)
If need be, I suppose I can buy my own card, but I have no idea how to install it or even if I COULD. (I've heard some cards are integrated so you can't just swap them)
So really, what I'm asking is for recommendations; either specific products or places where I could get something like this. Or if any of the computers I've found would do what I want anyways, and I'm just not understanding the power they have (I've never done anything on a computer with more than 1gig RAM). So if any of the "stock" computers that fit the above description will do what I want, that's excellent. I'm just not sure if I'll need to be customizing stuff.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey!
Don't think of this of being rude.. But there is a really nice gaming computer that came out a couple of weeks ago. Its the New Gateway FX. It runs about $1,299.99 I believe. Now don't let that scare you away. This comes with a HD Radion 4850 in it. A really nice Graphics card. Not only that it has the NEW Intel i7 Quad Core, that runs at 2.6 Ghz. I have done many Services on the FX, and its a fast computer, and the thing is it can go even faster. It holds a 3gb of ram, With a 750 GB Hdd? And 2 HDD spots in the front. For even more space! Also has a couple of other neat features, but I think you got the point.
If I had the money this is the computer that I would buy. Also with your budget, Best Buy is having the 18 Months finance with 0% interest rates. I would do that but I have to be 18 for a credit card >.>. Hope this helps =]

  • Need new computer, what requirements for ACS 4 Design Premium for Windows

My old computer is dying. What do I need to know before getting a new one to be sure  my Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium for Windows can still work.
My computer now says 64x2 dual core processor, does that mean I could get a 32 or a 64 bit?
I'm on Windows XP, will it still work in Windows 7 (if I can find that) or Windows 8?
Anything else I need to look out for?
I want to save my old hard drive so I can put my old documents, pictures, etc., on the new computer's hard drive. I never registered this program but I do have the serial number on the pack of CDs. Will there be any problem reinstalling them on the new computer?
    Thanks

yes it will work with win 7 and with win 8 though there seem to be more problems (of all sorts) with win 8.  you can get 32 or 64 bit to use cs4 (and all older software).
you may need to use compatibility mode to install cs4.

  • New computer, what do I do?

Okay, I just set up my new computer. Windows 7. I've installed itunes. I've copied over all my music. I've transferred all my purchases. I've backed up the ipod on the new machine. How can I go ahead and sync this without blowing away everything? I've imported my old ipod playlist from my old machine. It's warning me that the iPod will be erased before sync. I really don't want that. I have user data on my apps I don't want to loose. What should I do here to minimize the pain?

Don't forget to authorize the new machine in iTunes, but other than that you sound good to go.
    1. Right click on the iPod bar in the side bar to select your device
    2. Select back up (this will back up your app data. What all is backed up [is here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766])
    3. After the back up, hit sync. Answer yes to the question about erasing data.
    4. After it syncs, right click on iPod in the devices side bar, and select restore from back up.
According to rcflyboynj [in this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2573930&tstart=0] doing it this way preserved all his data. He wrote "It kept all the info from the apps. My Test: It resumed from the same level on Bike or Die 2 that I had left off from. The only thing in might mess is the music and videos, if you don't have them copied over from your old PC."
    Hope that answers your question.

  • HT1349 my hp computer crashed , got a new hp and i want my itunes i purchased off it on my new computer   what do i do

i had a hp computer with my itunes account and it crashed.   i have a new hp with same itunes account but none of my music from my other computer is on this one,   how do i get that music on this one     i dont no alot about this stuff   thanks

You should copy the music from your old computer and put it on an external hard drive or flash drive. Then plug in that drive to your new computer and drop all the music into itunes from the drive on your new computer.
If you don't have access to your old computer, you will have to buy a recovery program that can copy the music from your iPod. I highly recommend iRip from "the little app factory". http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/
The program is about $20 and it will save you from losing all your music. I have used it to save my massive music collective on my iPod classic when my old windows machine crashed. iRip also will let you grab 100 tracks for free off your iPod so you can see for yourself that the program actually works!
iTunes stores music in these directories:
    Windows: C:// ... /user/My Documents/My Music/iTunes
    Mac OS:  /User/Music/iTunes
    Hope this helps!

  • When syncing iphone to itunes on new computer, what is erased? Are texts and contacts erased?

I got a new computer and am trying to sync my iphone to it.
I get the message "..this will erase your iphone..."  What is earsed?  I want to think only the itunes related things (apps, music, videos, etc.)
    Are photos erased as well?
    Thank you!

    All content will be removed.
You can get Phoneview from http://ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/ which will allow you to move the iPhone content to the computer.
To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place and you will be able to change your settings.
