New Computer with new iTunes

Good day
Please pardon me if you have dealt with this question previously. I cannot seem to find any discussion if there is any or something to help me resolve my issue.
I have changed computer. On the previous computer, I had iTunes 11.1.5 running and a backup made from my iPhone and iPad. Before changing my computer, I copied the ...\App Data\Apple Computer\..... I have lost my iPad and will like to restore the device from the last backup I made. I see that there are data on the ..Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup. How do I point the restore to this location?
Thanks in advance for you help in this question.
Regards,
Theo

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder (not just the media folder) from the old computer to the new computer.

  • How do I set up iTunes to read my music from my external hard drive after I have changed to a new computer with new operating software (previously WinXP now Win7)?

    Before I got my new computer (which was operating on Windows XP), I successfully moved my itunes library to my external hard drive and ran it off that so as not to take up space on my laptop.  I now have a new computer which runs off of Windows 7.  I've tried going to iTunes-->preferences-->advanced-->"itunes media folder location" and pointing it to my external hard drive but it still doesn't show my library.  What do I need to do to make my iTunes library on my new computer read my iTunes library off of my external hard drive?

    As Chris says... but if the media is on an external drive as above then you also need to make sure the external drive has the same drive letter on the system you are moving to or iTunes won't be able to find the files.

  • Cant use purchased items on new computer with new email address

    i bought a new laptop then changed isp from aol to bt then backed up my itunes from old laptop to disc ,tried to put music from discs onto new laptop with new email address and my purchased items are on itunes but cant use them as a message appears saying that i cant play music due to computer not being autherised but when i go to autherise computer in itunes the message your computer is autherised appears ......... please help

    I have almost the exact same problem. I have a bunch of music, ringtones, TV shows, movies... stuff that I purchased that I can't authorize. All of these items were purchased with the same account I'm still using now. The difference is that I've changed my email address. I don't have the original email address from when I made those purchases and I'm unable to authorize them. I can see that when I view info on one of these purchases the "Account Name: " has my old email address... not my iTunes or Apple account. So, if I'm authorizing my iTunes using my new email none of these older purchases will work.
    I'm really curious how to fix this. I've got quite a few purchases from years back that I'd like access to, but I can't authorize using my new email/iTunes or my old email (the one used for the original purchases).
    Take a look at the info and tell me if you see "Account Name:" on one of your purchases. And is that associated to your old email address? There has to be a way to fix this or 'transfer' older purchases, especially if it's all under the same real 'account'.

  • Best method to assign old itunes library on old hdd to new computer with new itunes software on ssd.

    Hi everyone,
    I put an old windows xp desktop to rest that had all my itunes software and files on it. I pulled the 3.5 internall hdd with the xp os and all the itunes program software and itunes music files from this old computer. I just added into my new computer via sata cables and its showing and i have access to it. I have an ssd as my main drive on my main new computer. This is where windows 7 pro is sitting. Ive never had itunes on this computer. Im wondering if it is as easy as the below;
    1. install itunes on the ssd c: drive
    2. hold down shift while opening itunes for the first time
    3. point to the library.itl file on the old 3.5 internall hdd
    Will itunes then always see and link to this itl file on my old hdd and work fine? My concerns are;
    1. does it matter that this old hdd has a windows os on it along with the itunes program and all its associated files/ folder
    2. i dont want itunes to start copying all those music files from the old hdd to my ssd. this would crash my ssd, as its not very large.
    3. if the above works fine will my ipod when first mounted sync up fine?
    4. are i do the hold down shift thing, what settings should i change in itunes? i know ill have to auth the computer. but how about organization settings?
    And final question. I plan on using this old hdd just to store itunes music. I plan on deleting all the other folders, program files etc. Everything but the itunes folder. Is this safe? Should i leave certain windows os files on the hdd as to not disturb necessary processes?
    Thanks!

    Still no luck on this. Would it be easier to migrate the iTunes across using migration assistant? Is it possible to migrate it across while making it save the migrated library to the second eHDD (I would erase the copy of the library on that drive before doing so)
    The PB is a G4 867 with firewire 400 (but only UBS1) and running 10.3.9 (not sure what version iTunes) - I can daisy chain it to the mini's FW800 with couple of external drives I have.
    I have held off using migration assistant as all the files and stuff I want is on the eHDD and I don't want any unnecessary legacy items from the PB getting onto the mini.

  • Have new computer with new Windows 7, Palm m105, and 4.1.4 palm desktop, trying to get it to synch correctly.

    With new computer I have had to add a USB serial converter to the hot synch cradle. I spent most of the day trying to get the new serial converter to be recognized so that a synch could be performed. It now will synch when I put the palm in the cradle. After installing 4.1.4, In order to get everything to work, I took a recent historicalbackup version of my palmOne program file folder in the Program files, and replaced the entire folder with my historical version. When I opened the desktop software, all my data appears to be there, except that many of my previous entries in the Calendar are now three hours earlier than they used to be and some are moved to an adjacent day. My palm still has the correct information, but a custom synch to overwrite the desktop data with the handheld data produces no change, even though it went through a long synching process. I also have an older computer that has a complete backup copy of everything and the palm software in that one is working properly, so what should I do to correct the data in my Calendar on my new laptop?

    It looks like you will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop and re-install.
    Here are the clean uninstall instructions for XP, see if the palm folders are in the same location. We have not received any info. on windows 7 and how Palm desktop syncs with this version.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
    For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen and sync.

  • HT1473 my computer crashed and i have a new computer with new itunes, i am trying to get my music from my old iphone 4 into the library but as soon as i unplug the phone it no longer appears in the library

    my computer crashed so i have a new itunes and i am trying to put my music from my old phone into itunes, it doesnt transfer only shows up when my phone is plugged in?

    The iphone is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
    You shouldcopy everything from your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.  This one of the main reasons it has laways been very basic to always maintain a abckup copy of your computer.

  • HT1420 I'm trying to authorize a new computer with an itune account, but my the computer statea that I have too many devices authorized. I only have 2 computers in my possession now. How can I deauthorize computer I don't have anymore without deauthorizin

    I have recently purchased a new lap top. Both my wife and I share our Itune music. When I purchesed the computer I was able to authorize my itunes account on it and move my purchaced music over from my iphone. However, I was not able to move my wifes music over because she has too many devices authorized under her account. Most of those computers are no longer in our possession and have been thrown out. How can she deauthorzise computer we don't have in our possession anymore without deauthorizing them all?

    Authorizing deauthorizing has NO effect at all on your itunes library.  You lose nothing.
    You should also alwasy have a backup copy.
    You MUST deauthorize all.
    You have the only answer there is.

  • I have a time capsule with my iTunes library from a previous computer.  I now have a new computer with new songs on my iTunes library.  I'd like to retrieve my songs from my iTunes library which is stored in the time capsule.  How do I do this?

    Hello there.  Wondering if there's any way I can retrieve songs that are stored in my time capsule that was backed up from my old previous computer?

    Actually you always use ethernet..
    MBA does not come with ethernet port.. but apple sells both a cheap usb to ethernet and a much more expensive and much faster thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. With ethernet to eliminite this silly situation of setting up wireless over wireless, so if you make any change you instantly drops you off the network. Like cartoons of people sawing off the branch they are sitting on.
    But you can reset.. no reset will do anything at all to the material on the hard disk. You must deliberately erase it.
    Read the info because you may only need to do a soft reset. That is hold the reset for 1sec (2-3sec is fine)  as long as you don't hold it for a full reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
    Even a full factory reset will not harm your files in any way, (or any further!!)
    I am "concerned" that you have no backup to vital files on your TC. That is not wise. TC are no more immune to failure than any other hard disk.. (actually latest ones use the cheapest green WD drives money can buy) and keeping files in only one location is a receipe for disaster. An external drive is much more accessible.. cheaper and tend to be more reliable. There are too many things to break in the TC.. it is designed as a backup target for TM. Not a file store.

  • Restoring old backup on new computer with new phone

    I wasn't prepared, but I backup up my wife's iPhone 4 on my laptop and then we went out to get her the iPhone 5. Came home, plugged in the new phone to restore, but said I needed the latest version of iTunes (11.0.1). But I can't download the new iTunes because I'm running 10.5.8 on this antique iBook.
    So I copied my backups to a hard drive, then transferred them to my work laptop (which is running 10.7.3) and downloaded the new version of iTunes.
    So where do I want to put the old backup so that iTunes will recoginize it? The "RESTORE BACKUP" button is currently grayed out.
    Also, I've never had any isses in the past, so I've never had to restore. Is there anything else I should be aware of?
    My wife is about to kill me over this little deal. Help please.

    Hey mate... well I never use migration assistant cos i always like to have a totally new system on the new computers without the quirks of the last one.
    Can you use migration assistant once you JUST to get hold of the Address Book or do you also need to import a whole bunch of other stuff... I just don't know cos I have never used it.
    Thanks heaps,

  • De-authorizing itunes? Several of my authorized pc's have died, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

    Several of my authorized pc laptops and desktops have completely died over the years, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

    Deauthorise all to reset to zero, then authorize again.
    Following quote from Apple Support:
    If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
    Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

  • HT1206 Can I sync my wife's new Iphone with "my" Itunes or should I just set up a new Itunes account on her computer???

    I just tried to sync my wife's new Iphone with "my" ITunes.  Bad mistake!!  I guess "my" itunes thought her phone was mine and "somehow" went into "restore" mode and basically turned "her" phone into mine - ie. contacts, photos, etc.
    Can your have two phones one Itunes??  Or should I just open a new Itunes account on her computer and "start" from scratch??  If I do the later, how do I transfer all the music on "my" Itunes to hers???

    You can sync as many iphone/ipads/ipods as you like to one computer/library.

  • HT5577 When I bought a new computer with Windows8.1, iTunes wouldn't accept my old ID and password, so I set up a new ID and password.  Now I can't locate or sync my old library of music onto my iPOD.  Any ideas?

    when I bought a new computer with Windows8.1, iTunes wouldn't accept my old ID and password.  After entering a new ID and password I got in, but now I can't sync the music that was in my original library.  When I try to sync a message says that music will be removed from "other" libraries, so I know they're out there somewhere.  Just can't get to them.  Any ideas?

    - Is the computer authorized for the iTunes account(s) used on the iPod?
    - Are you syncing or manually managing music?
    - In iTunes if you go to Preferences and then go to the Devices tab, what date is show for the iPod backup? Is if before you switched computers?
    - Your iPod sees the new computer as a new library/computer and you can only sync to one library.  You need to restore you iPod from a backup.  If that bacup is hosw in Preferences, restore from that backup.
    - If the backup is after you switched computers, you have two options:
    --- Try to make a backup by right clicking on the iPd under Devices in iTunes and selecting backup.
    --- If you can't make a backu, can you get one from the backup of your old computer.  It is located here and yu may have to have show hidden files turned on.
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
