New computer...won't recognize library

My computer recently crashed. I have a new computer and have authorized it and downloaded the latest version of itunes. The problem is that when I connect my ipod to the computer, it does not recognize my library. It asks if I want to sync the songs, but says that my new library (which only has 2 songs) on it will replace my existing library. Also, the songs I purchased on the new computer will not show up on my ipod. Please help!!!!!!

I assume you have stuff on the iPod you want to get back into your library first? ...

  • My new computer won't recognize my printer (HP4500 Officejet Wireless) in the wireless or wired mode

MY new computer won't recognize my printer in either the connected or wireless mode.  When I hit "search for printers" it finds my neighbors wireless printer 100 yards away, and another net, but not mine sitting right beside it.

    Hi,
Have you installed its software abd drivers on your computer yet ? Please use the CD which came with the printer. By the way, what is your Officejet 4500 ? It must be G510something.
    Regards.

  • Library Issue:  Existing External Drive - New Computer Won't Recognize

    Hi,
I've had an external drive library for quite some time. I just bought a new laptop, downloaded iTunes, pointed it to F:\Music where my library is and it won't recognize the files. There are a handful of songs that come with iTunes, so I did a Consolidate to see what would happen. They are visible and available from my F: drive but none of my "original" files. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Unless I am missing something, this is a real pain the tukus. I moved all of my mp3's to an external hard drive to free up space in my c drive. My Itunes cannot find it. Do I really have to move items into Itunes folder by folder??? Is there not a search for "music files" which moves it into the itunes folder, wherever that may be? I see references where the site seems to say that the physical file doesn't need to be in the Itunes folder but only references it. I have a ton of folders. Each individually??? I have moved compied pasted and created som many folders that say I tunes, I think I must have triplicates of all files. This is a mess. Why can't I get Itunes/Ipod to find the folder where I want my files to reside-off my C drive?

  • New Computer won't recognize my music library

I just had to purchase a new PC when my old one died. Got a new Dell with Vista installed. Fortunately, I had a back up of all my iTunes music on a removable harddrive. I've downloaded and installed iTunes onto my new computer and copied all of my music files into the appropriate music/itunes/itunesmusic folder, but iTunes doesn't recognize the music. I've checked the path and it is correct (since it was the default iTunes set up). I've authorized the computer. I even tried consolidating, but nothing has worked. Based on the Apple info about Vista, I've uninstalled the program and am now downloading and reinstalling it again. Any other suggestions on how I can get iTunes to recognize my old music files? Is it okay for me to have copied the files from the old folder to the new or do I need to do something else? Do they need to be imported? Thanks for your help.

    Hey MattyTimao!
I would strongly suggest that you go through the steps in the following article to minimize any interactions between the previous owner’s data and the new data you are wishing to store on the computer:
What to do before selling or giving away your Mac

To answer your question specifically though, I would recommend creating a new library file for your music and deleting the previous iTunes Library to get rid of the previous music:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589
If you wish to use the iTunes Library file that is already created and being used, you will need to import media into the iTunes Library:

  • New Computer Won't Recognize my IPOD

I have an IPOD mini and just got a new computer. When I plug it in, the computer says "usb device not recognized". When I look it up it says that there is no driver for the device. It still works fine on my old machine (a slower usb 1.1).

You may want to try these steps, Jacob, after you've installed and run the iPod Updater and your computer still won't recognize the iPod:
First, make hidden folders visible. Open My Computer and choose Tools/Folder Options/View tab. Click on 'Show hidden files and folders' and click OK.
In the Add New Hardware Wizard, have it search in C:\windows\inf for usbstor.inf. This file is required for windows to properly configure the driver. If Windows finds the driver there, you're done.
If Windows does not find the proper driver there, copy usbstor.sys from C:\windows\servicepack\i386 to C:\windows\system32\drivers.
If you can't find the usbstor.inf file on your system, you can get it here: usbstor.inf
After copying the usbstor.inf driver file to C:\Windows\inf, right-click on My Computer and choose ‘Manage.'
Click on the button labeled 'Device Manager.'
Click to open the list under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers.'
Right click on any mass storage devices with the exclamation icon next to them and select 'Update Driver.'
Check the option 'Install from a list or a specific location' and then click to continue.
Check next to 'Include this location in the search' and enter 'C:\windows\inf'.
Click on 'Next' and follow the steps to complete the driver installation wizard.

  • New computer won't recognize my iPhone

The computer I had my iPhone sync'd to recently crashed.  I got a new computer, downloaded iTunes, but when I try to connect my iPhone to the new computer, iTunes doesn't find my phone under devices -- how can I make the computer recognize my phone so I can sync my music from the phone to the new computer, and use iTunes to add more music to my phone?

  • New computer won't recognize Ipod

I built a new computer but neither Windows nor Itunes will recognize my Ipod Classic. I have tried everything up to and including a restore. I have tried using a different cable and every USB port. I even took it to an apple store and had it reformatted and it still didn't work.
My old crappy laptop that I used to use recognizes it as does my newer netbook which I am now using to sync my Ipod until I can fix this problem because I transferred all my music to an external dirve anyway. Strangely I also have an Ipod Nano which my newly built desktop does recognise.

As an update, I just noticed that my Ipod says it has no music on it even though it has synced and the netbook uploaded all the music to it.

  • TS1591 My iPhone 5 was originally backed up to another computer (that is now dead) and my new computer won't recognize it.  So how do I get the new computer to recognize it?

I'm trying to back-up my iPhone to iTunes, but when the phone is plugged in it does not register as a device in iTunes.
The phone is receiving a charge from the computer.
All of my software is up to date.
I am using a computer other than the one I last backed the phone up with (my old laptop crashed, now I'm working off of my new iMac).
How do I get the computer to recognize the phone so I can do a back-up?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything on the new one.
It sounds like you have failed to do this, which is not good at all.
You will have to transfer your itunes purchases from your iphone.  Authorize your computer for your itunes account
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
Open itunes, plug in iphone, do NOT sync, click File>Transfer Purchases
When you do sync you will lose your pics ( photo library - synced from your old computer), your itunes content ( music, apps, videos, etc) , your contacts and your calendars.  So do NOT sync yet.  This is why a backup copy is so important.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer.
When you first sync, you should get the option to merger the data.  Choose it.
If you want your pics, then you will need to e-mail them to yourself before you sync.  They will not be of the original quality as they are reduced when synced to iphone.
When all is as goos as it can be, then backup your computer, and always maintain the backup.

  • New computer won't recognize external drive[s]

Just got an HP Pavilion 500t Desktop with Windows 7.   Although the USB ports (front and back) WILL recognize an 8 Gig thumb drive, we cannot get it to recognize other external drives.   We've tried our old Maxtor 3200 drive (which has all the files from the previous computer) and also a 1 T passport drive that I brought home from work.
What is up with this?   I'm looking for some suggestions, please.
    Thanks

It appears the Maxtor 3200  has an external power supply.  Is the drive showing response to the power pack before plugging into the USB port?  Same for the other drive?
When you state "we cannot get it to recognize other external drives" does that mean the computer does nothing when either one is plugged into the USB port?

  • Computer won't recognize my new ipod

I just got the fifth gen ipod and I am trying transfer my music from my old ipod and the computer won't recognize my new ipod.

I have just been through this world of pain. dont bother re-installing itunes, or trawling through device drivers.
Instead, make sure you turn off bluetooth and wireless. Unplug your network cable from the pc (assuming you have a LAN connection).
Try plugging in the touch and it should be recognised straight away.

  • TS1369 this is the first time that i'm trying to connect my new ipod shuffle and my computer won't recognize the driver?

My computer won't recognize the driver for my Ipod Shuffle. This is a brand new ipod so why is there an issue?

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes and all other Apple software to see if that makes a difference?  Use the exact instructions in this article.

  • New computer won't open my itunes library!

I just got a new computer and my itunes library was stored on an external hard drive. I'm all up and running so i move my itunes library onto the new computer and download the latest version of itunes. When i click on itunes it opens up but all that's on there is my purchased music??? So i plug in my ipod and i get a message telling me that my ipod is "synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes libary?" No i don't! I want my whole library. Any ideas??

Did you move only your music, or did you move the *iTunes Library.itl* and *iTunes Music Library.xml* files as well? These files are the files iTunes recognizes as your library. If you did move the library files, where did you put them? By default, iTunes looks for these files in c:\users\my documents\my music\itunes (I think that's the right path for Vista).
If you moved these files to another location, you can point iTunes to it by holding the shift key when starting iTunes. You will then be asked where your library is. Simply browse to the iTunes Library.itl file is and your library should open.

  • HT1351 My computer won't recognize my iPOD Touch even though it dose recognize my Clasic and New Nano. Any suggestions?

My computer won't recognize my iPOD Touch even though it does recognize my Clasic and Nano. Any suggestions?

Well, now I feel like an idiot. I was using TWO CORDS. Ya, don't make my mistake. The one I had a problem with was made by a company that was not apple, and it was for CHARGING. I bought it with charger, and that's all it can do. It doesn't send data like the real cable. So, check your usb cables. :S
