New connection, now won't work

We've been using the Airport Extreme with a DSL hookup for the last year or two and everything has been working fine. Today we switched to iO cable and I can't get the Airport to work. I don't know if I have something wired wrong or what...
On the back of the Airport I have the power cord plugged in, and I have the wire going from the back of the cable modem's ethernet port to the Airport's ethernet port. Nothing goes into the computer itself at the moment except the phone wire which goes from the Mac to the cable modem. My book says I should use the Airport's Internet port since it's coming in via cable, but I'm not sure...I tried both that port and the Airport's ethernet port and neither works. If I plug the cable modem directly into the Mac's ethernet port, I can connect, so I know it's coming in that way.
When I go to the Airport Set Up utility, it first tells me I don't have an Airport card and that I'll need to connect via ethernet. If I click continue, I have to choose between 'set up new station' or 'change settings on existing' -- I've tried both, and no matter which I pick, the box comes up with no base station in the list. When I try 'scan again' nothing happens.
Any ideas for what I could be missing -- a connection I've mixed up or something? If I don't get my daughter's computer running again, I'll be in the doghouse, even if we DO have cable now
We have an eMac OSX 10.3.9

When changing network configurations, it's a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of all of your network components ...
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s)
4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3 says it needs 11.1 but I cannot load that on my macbook using OSX 10.5.8 any way around this?

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?

No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.
    You can get 10.6.8 here:

  • My Ipod updated and now won't work

Pior to this, it was working fine. I connected my Ipod and as usual Itunes sync'd and advised that there was a software update. I updated the software and it installed and now my Ipod won't work. It had a darkened screen with the battery showing, the date on top has changed by skip forward a day, the spoked wheel showing processing is displayed but isn't moving. It seems to be frozen and not responsive to any touch. I tried to reset it as per the website by holding the on/home button for 10secs and it kepted getting locked onto the apple logo and nothing else. I restored it and it took ages and appeared with the same screen and then it seemed to come good. Except all my music and photos are gone and its now frozen on the music screen with no options, just a white screen. It chimes like its on the charger and displays the charging icon on the top, even when its not plugged in. It won't reset again either (home/on) it's just staying on that screen.
I only just got it in Sept 10 so its only four months old and this only started happening after the update to 4.2.1. What's going on?

    Welcome to the discussions,
try to connect in recovery mode, shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then restore "as new ipod" without using the last backup to restore your data and settings from, it may contain corrupt data.

  • New Mac Pro Won't Work With Old Studio Display

    Hi,
Just got a new Mac Pro Desktop 8-core only to find out my old Apple Studio Display 17" won't work without a $100 adapter. We're thinking of just buying a new monitor instead. My question is will other brands now work direclty with the new Macs - or would they also need adapters? Is a DVI port the same as a DVI-D port?
    Thanks for any info...

Thanks so much for the response, Malcolm, I really appreciate it! My old monitor is an LCD, but what we decided to do is since the adapter we found (and HAD to get from Apple directly) was going to cost $99!! We went and bought a brand new Dell monitor instead for $238 - it's fully compatible with the new Mac, and it's 23" (my old one was a 17") - so all's good!
    Thanks again,
    Jacki

  • New 660 GTX won't work in my PC either!

I have the exact same problem as Jacobh postet here, only the motherboard differs:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162947.0
I have the MSI X79-GD45 motherboard and my new MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC won't work in my PC. The fans spin up but nothing is displayed and there is no beep when there usually is.
My MB gives error code 97, but I have no idea what that means as I can find no information in the manual for the MB.
Any attempt at solutions have so far been in vain. My old card (MSI 8800GTX) works fine in my PC.
However, the 660 works fine when my IT expert tries it in his computer, so the video card is not the problem. The test computer where it works is a two year old machine with a power supply lower than mine.
I have all the latest updates from Live update.
Will any solution work for me? I sure hope so, as I really want to keep this card.
Please help me solve this issue, if you need any more information regarding my specs, please let me know.

    Thanks Svet
However, I'm going to return the card now. I have allready used far too much time on trying to get it to work, and to try a solution that might work is just not good enough for me.
I risk damage to my bios without garantee that it will work, and I'm getting closer to loosing getting my money back.
Sorry MSI, you loose this time. Unfortunate, since I have allways had high thoughts about your products. This however, is just not good enough. MSI is aware of the problem, but have not solved the issue, to me this is bad costumer service.
    Thanks again, Svet

  • Downloaded new version now won't open!!

    Hi
I downloaded the new version of Itunes tonight having just got hooked back up to broadband. However it now won't open at all saying there is a problem with audio configuration. It doesn't actually tell me what that problem is however and reinstalling does nothing. I don't want to have to remove and reinstall completely as I'd lose all the songs in my library!!
Is this my only option or does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

The previous version, is not deleted when Pages 5 is installed, just moved to Applications/iWork folder.
The icons on the dock remain.
Have you actually looked in your Applications folder for the new version?
Any documents created by Pages 5 need to be opened by Pages 5.

  • Sync with .mac never seemed to work great, now won't work at all

sync never seemed to work that well for me, now it won't work at all. I get the following message now:
    .Mac Sync Error
A failure occurred while synchronizing the .Mac Sync Client.
I've tried reseting all the .mac stuff, but nothing seems to work now. Its pretty frustrating. Plus, while mac support in the store and over the phone is superb, .mac support online is a joke. Doesn't anyone have any suggestions?

With the exception of a framework reset, iSync no longer has anything to do with .Mac synchronization, which is instead handled exclusively by .Mac Sync.
I would start with a search of this forum for the error messages you describe:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=957
Some of the same users who answer questions here regarding iSync, also do that there for users of .Mac Sync.

  • I changed my apple ID email address and now all my devices are signed in under the old apple ID, but it wont let me change the icould account on any without a password. The problem is my new password for the new apple ID won't work or the old? help!!!!

Help me!! I changed my email address associated with apple Id. Now ALLLLL my devices (iphone, mac, ipad) are associated with old apple Id. But It won't log out or delete the old one without having a password. Neither the old passowrd or the new password works. Now nothign works. Please help me!!

    Hello Alexandra,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iCloud on your devices after updating your Apple ID.  I recommend the following steps:
    Symptoms
iOS 7 may ask for the password to your previous Apple ID when you sign out of iCloud.
    Resolution
    1. Use your current Apple ID password
Trying using your current Apple ID password. If that doesn't work, continue to the next step.
    2. Sign out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime
If you are currently signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
If you are not signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
    3. Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

  • Upgraded to 3.6.16 now New Tab function won't work

Firefox did the automatic update to 3.6.16 and now it won't allow me to open a new tab. Page just refreshes if you choose 'File'-New Tab, and clicking on the tab icon doesn't result in anything. Have not noticed anything else that could be affecting how Firefox is working.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • IPhone 4S fell on some water, was working but now won't work. I got a replacement coming. Can I use the old Sim card in the new phone if it wasn't damaged? Will I get my pictures and contacts and messages back if it wasn't damaged?

My iPhone 4S accidentally fell into a very shallow bit of water. The phone was wet, but worked afterwards for a short bit. Now it's not working, so I called and got a replacement phone coming. Same exact phone. Can I use the old Sim card in the new phone without harming anything? I don't know if the sim card got messed up or not, but I had a lot of pictures and messages and my contacts on my phone, and I assume these were on the sim card or am I wrong? I just wan to know if I can use the old sim card if it's still working in the new phone that is coming, as long as there was no damage to it? Thanks

I think I had it on the iCloud, I just changed computers and had part of my old computer backed up, where are the default iTunes info saved like the pictures and I know my contacts were backed up cuz I kept getting updated stuff that I wasn't sure about, but it was contacts where some belonged to my wife's contacts....but anyway, if the cloud backed up contacts, it should have grabbed pictures too? Like I asked before, if they were backed up to the computer, is there a default iTunes folder they are saved to? I had a crap load of pictures on there that I usually could really access if I was connected to wi-fi. I turned off my data stuff as I only have 4GB and between me and my 2 kids, we seemed to use up a lot of it. My son would play music from Pandora during work, and use up all our data til I limited him to only 3GB, my daughter and I barely used 1GB. Anyway, thanks to everybody that is answering. I thought I might have done good finding the dang sim card, but pointless I guess.
Ralph - F.Y.I. I would be happy to back up the iPhone if I could turn it on LOL......I am pretty positive I did, but what about Text messages? ANY of those saved too or not? Sorry guys, I don't know a **** of a lot about cell phones, but I do know about memory cards, but not sim cards that act like memory cards or look like them anyway. What is the purpose of a sim card if I may ask a stupid question since they don't hold any data from my phone stuff. I just hope my stuff comes back on the new replacement phone once I get it up and running. Again, thanks to everybody for the edumucation.

  • IPod Touch 2G wouldn't connect to iTunes, now won't work at all.

After updating my iTunes to iTunes 10 and upgrading to iOS 4, my iTunes wouldn't recognize my iPod. I tried to put it in recovery mode in order to restore it, but whenever I go to restore it, it stops part way through with some random error. So now I have an essentially useless iPod. How can I make this work again?!

I have a 2 g nano and the only way I can get itunes to see it is to connect it to my pc, have iTunes open, and then restart the nano. On the touch you'd do this by pressing your Home & Sleep buttons both for about 10 secs.
Try that or [Unable to update or restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808] and see if it works. You will still need to restore it but maybe it will complete it this way.

  • Macbook Pro and Monitor help - Now won't work??

Ok so I have been using my i7 Macbook Pro 15" with a Dell Monitor fine.. but then started to get the odd flickers.. I was told this was a Mac issue and many many people had this..
Now when I plug in, my Monitor defaults to the orange standby light and it won't come on at all when connected to the Mac??!
I am using DVI with an Apple Thunderbolt adaptor so i can use the Thunderbolt connection on this newer MBP.
I took the monitor off the Mac and connected via DVI to a PC Laptop and the Monitor sprang into life and works great!!!
So I know its not the Monitor
Any solution to making this work again on the Mac????

    Hi,
Could you please confirm the CC application you are using.
It would be great if you post a screenshot of the problem.

  • ITunes sync'd just fine w/iPod until two days ago ... now won't work

I am running iTunes 10.6.3.25, which had been working fine as had every version before it until several days ago.  Two problems are now occuring.
1 - Out of the blue, iTunes will no longer synchronize with my iPod.  In fact, there is no recognition by iTunes of my iPod at all.  This is the same iPod I have used for the last several years without issue.
2 - I am all of the sudden unable to refresh my iTunes podcasts.  The refresh feature fails any time while my iPod is connected to my laptop (using Windows 7).  While connected, I am unable to refresh my podcasts without an iTunes box indicating "iTunes has stopped working," which then forces me to shut down the program. I have attempted the same process of connecting my iPod and refreshing using compatibility mode, but nothing changes.  When not connected, iTunes refreshes at times, but other times presents the same failure box.  I've run a diagnostics on my iPod connection and was told my iPod is not connected.  I know my iPod connection is working, despite this feedback, because my Kaspersky virus scan detects is and asks whether I want to run a test.  This prompt is standard.  Further, the iPod reacts to being connected to the laptop by charging and attempting to sychronize, though it is never able to complete its process without iTunes failing.  No changes to my iTunes version, virus scanner, iPod or anything else associated to my laptop have been implemented over the past several days that could have caused this issue to my knowledge.  Just recently, I received a new message claiming my iPod was corrupted.  Not sure how this could be the case given nothing changed, but I went through the recommended prompt to scan and fix corrupted files.  Upon completion of the iTunes process, I was given indication that corrupt files had been found and that the iPod should now be fine, yet nothing has changed in terms of my ability to refresh or synchronize between iTunes and the iPod.
These issues are driving me absolutely nuts.  I rely on my iPod and iTunes podcasts every day and living without them has been a real downer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

One additional finding this morning ... iTunes can't handle my iPad being connected.  Immediately upon recognizing the iPad, iTunes comes up with the same message as happens with the iPod indicating "iTunes has stopped working," forcing an immediate shut down of the program.  Opposite the case with my iPod, iTunes at least recognizes my iPad.
    No idea.  This is madening.

  • IPhone overheated now won't work or even start

My IPHONE over heated from being in the car. Now it won't start. I tried rebooting it, but it wouldn't reboot.  The message on the IPHONE says to connect it to ITunes, but ITUNES wants to restore it, erasing all its data. Is there any way to save the data I have on my IPHONE?

If iTunes is prompting you it requires to restore the device then this will need to be done in order to fix up the phone being in Recovery Mode.
If a backup is present (you can check under Preferences -> Devices -> Backups within iTunes) then you can restore this backup to your restored iPhone to recover data. However if there is no backup listed then you will still need to restore the iPhone in order to get it working.
