New CS5 Machine - Anything Look Goofy Here?

Looking to build a new machine for CS5 Master Collection Use
I am VERY far from being an expert on hardware
I'm not really all that interested in in trying to overclock things
I just want to build a machine that works well with CS5 and is dependable
Does anyone see anything wrong with the combination of items below?
Thanks
Mathias

  • New PC Build Anything Look Questionable?

The list below has my PC build I would like to build my only concern is that I've never used MSI before and not sure if anything in the list would be incompatible or cause conflict especially the video card. Please let me know so I know what if anything I need to adjust.
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($319.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($157.99 @ Newegg)

Hi yes I know everyone just Loves Corsair but lets take this for example. P45-8d 8 gig corsair xms ram one module went bad so I did a advanced RMA well the new ram had the wrong ic on it and it would not even boot I was told after 20 years in the pc business it was because I did not know how to reset bios. Sent back the new Ram after I tried all configurations even tried the new modules with the 3 ones that still worked no go. Went to staples bought a 2 gig module cheap ddr3 then I over clocked the ram to 1600 it has run for 2 years now not one ram error. Also for a big company they have about 4 RMA centers world wide example buy a 1200 watt psu and you live in England well to RMA it you have to ship it to the Netherlands. Mushkin  also has great Ram. To buy from a Company I look at all aspects of said company and yes Corsair has gone downhill I feel they purposely use many different ic's so none of there ram will work together unless it is a kit. Why I use anything MSI I can get my hands on because they have a great RMA right here in Canada last time I did a RMA on a video card it left Monday morning and was back in my hands Wednesday afternoon. But I guess in the End it is what you are happy with but Gskill still has the fastest RAM LOL.

  • Should I upgrade my Power Mac quad core 2.66 or go for a new(er) machine?

I have a 2009 Power Mac, quad core 2.66 ghz, 6GB RAM, OS 10.6.8 and primarily run graphic apps (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) for Graphic Design projects and Photography. I've begun to run into sites that want newer versions of Safari and am thinking I should upgrade for security purposes. Firefox won't load (crashes machine), can't upgrade Flash-- wondering if it's time to upgrade OS but when I look at the latest version it won't run on the machine.
I've read where I can purchase a new graphic card and then "hack" the system to run the latest OSX but am wondering, after all is said and done with costs would I just be better off getting a new(er) machine (maybe a powerbook i7)? Would the performance be about the same? I love my Power Mac (the inside is so perfectly designed) and, aside from the browser issues it generally does everything I need. graphic cards that are recommended don't seem to be in production any longer and those that are listed retail for around $350-$500. A RAM boost (extra 16GB for $200) and even a processor upgrade from OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/turnkey/MacPro/2010_Xeon_Processor) ($500-$600) and conceivably I could run this machine into the ground.
Thank you for any thoughts or insights.

Ah, this is why one should not post late at night with little sleep. Thank you all for the answers and kind responses of help.
Very good suggestion to reinstall the system and I shall do so. I believe this is the MacPro forum, is it not? Should I still repost? I used everymac.com to determine my system BUT posted the results incorrectly (corrected below and yes, it is a 2006). My apologies. I ran the software that THE HATTER suggested and have the results below. I'm not opposed to spending money to either upgrade or purchase a new(er) machine-- simply looking to spend the money necessary wisely for the best possible return. Thank you again for the help.

  • My new iMac has recently had OSX Lion installed on it and now when I start the machine it looks like its updating something every time, and the wireless doesn't work. So I restart and everything is OK - until I have to start up again the next time?

My new iMac has recently had OSX Lion installed on it and now when I start the machine it looks like its updating something every time, and the wireless doesn't work. So I restart and everything is OK - until I have to start up again the next time - then I have to repeat this again! Any help appreciated.

I've been having the same issue, but have just discovered something on my own that hasn't been pointed out in any of the forums I've visited.  In what I thought would be a vain attempt to help myself, I went to System Preferences, Users & Groups, and then clicked on Login Items.  I discovered that one of the Items that was listed to open automatically upon login was iTunes Helper and that there was an exclamation point beside it indicating that it was incompatible.  I simply deleted that item and now I don't have the situation you described and my wireless is connected.  Hope this helps!

  • Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  Only one Sparse Bundle, same name.

Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  There is only one sparse bundle but when I enter time machine I don't see my historic backups.  I use a synology DS212 for my time machine.  Started a new backup which is 218gb but it says 618 gb is occupied  therefore it looks like 2 or 3 backups are still on the disk. Before my NAS issues the last backup was in 2014.  As you can see there is a second sparse bundle from 2012.  Not sure what that is.

This is an old message now, but what happened to me similarly was:
I had a major computer crash and through complicated pathways ended up reinstalling (Mavericks) as a new user (long story).
At least I had good Time Machine backups on an NAS drive (Synology DS212j), or so I thought - when I started Time Machine up again, the old backup file was gone, replaced by a new one using my "new computer" name. The old file was gone both by directly mounting the NAS drive and by clicking "Enter Time Machine".
It's like I had {OldShareName}.sparsebundle and then it was replaced by {NewShareName}.sparsebundle, all of the old info vanished.
(I have spent a week finding old files elsewhere and have completed a satisfactory self-restore. It pays to "archive" [my own variation of] as well as "back-up".)
My belief is that if this were a wired-netword-drive, e.g. plugged right into my iMac with a USB cable, then the old file would have remained.
But this is an NAS drive, connected directly to my Airport wireless router, and I don't know the significance of the fact that it stores its Time Machine backups as "sparsebundle" files rather than simply as plain(er) files.
As usual when things get complicated with computers (not just Apple computers) there was never a warning message. Something like "YOU'RE ABOUT TO DELETE A TIME MACHINE BACK-UP FILE!!!" would have made my life a lot simpler.
BTW, I did try a "restore from Time Machine" option the first thing I had my "new computer" (old hardware, 2009 iMac) up and running, using Migration Assistant, and it ran for many hours and then failed in the wee hours - what that has to do with anything I'm not sure.
I'm not sure that I have a question about this other than "why do these things happen to me?", but it's a warning. Apart from that I've been very happy with the stability and reliability (but not the cost or set-up complexity) of NAS vs. directly-cabled external drives.

  • Different machines different looks?

    situation is:
i have been editing a project on a MacBookPro for a while. all previews stored with the project on an external drive.
i set up a new iMac machine (27'' Retina) and pick up the project where it's left.
project opens up. previews are loaded and everything looks just right.
clips having color correction effects (third party and premiere's own effects) but as soon as anything needs to be rendered again for any reason (line turns red from green), the look changes completely (goes way darker).
investigating onwards, i found out that indeed, when exporting from timeline (not using previews), this dark look is what comes out in the exports.
so in a way i'm relaxed because i know - what i see is what i get, then again what does it all mean? does it make any sense?

There's alot more to it, honestly. This particular issue is
    related to the
width of the container in which all of those tabs are placed,
    and the
aggregate widths of the tabs within that container. When the
    text is
resized, the container is now too narrow to contain all of
    the tabs, so the
newsletter one breaks to the next line.
That's life on the web. Can you do anything about it? Use
    graphics for the
tabs would be one way to manage that.

  • Display looks goofy after installing Mavericks

    Hi folks,
After I installed Mavs on my 2009 Mac Pro tower, the display won't display correctly. I should have a 1280 x 1024 option, but it isn't there any more! So, I can now 'scale' at another resolution, but it makes fonts and pix look goofy.
    Any ideas?

We are experiencing the same problems here. One iMac 2007 has the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB and it seems even worse on the iMac early 2008 with ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB.
After a bit of research, I first thought this had to do with the massive changes affecting color management and color profiles in Mavericks - but saturation and contrast seem to be another subject, as no one mentioned the moving lines/moiree/stripes in those discussions (i. e. https://discussions.apple.com/message/23530727#23530727).
Calibrating the monitor with advanced settings at least helped reduce the moiree and stripes in the majority of cases for me. I went to System Preferences > Displays > Color > Calibrate and enabled the checkbox to see all advanced settings. Choosing a "gamma correction" of 1,94 reduced a lot of the noise, although I am considering switching back to Lion until a proper fix is delivered. What a nuisance!

  • New at this and looking for advice

Hi, I am new at Qmasnter and looking for advice. Myself and a few of my other co-workers have been using FCP2 and we have been tossing around the idea of making a Cluster with our computers on our campus. Two of us run on MacBook Pro's, and the other on a 24" iMac, there is also 2 MacPro's and another 24" iMac we would like to toss into the cluster. I know it seems backwards, the ones that are doing all the editing are on the slower machines, but our organization operates backwards and not logically anyways. The question is what happen to the cluster when a node is turned off? Should the laptops be a node in the cluster? All the computers are running on a gigabyte network, so the network can handle it. Just looking for peoples wisdom before I cause my own headache, and learn for others mistakes.
    Thanks

    Hi Jon,
I've also started investigating the qmaster.
I'm following this guide you posted on digitalrebellion :
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/usingcompressor_with_multiplecores.html
but I the 'options for selected service' is greyed out when I click on compressor.
I can selected the 'options for...' when I click on rendering, but it just allows me to add another computer (but my only choice is 'this computer'. I see the option for SSH, but if i'm logged into another computer, shouldn't I be able to see it in the list?
Sorry for the noob questions. I"m trying to figure it out.
I have the following at my disposal:
    mac pro 2.66 (main machine)
    imac 2.16
    macbook pro 2.2

    ------------Platform info ---
the physical quad core Xenon server for backup dns also works as exchange server
has 12 GB RAM, 931 GB Raid 5 storage with 325 GB free.

These actions are not performed in the security context of the user.  The Local System / computer account of the Hyper-V Server is what needs the access, not the user.
Also, many AV products will cause these problems if the exclusions are not set properly, as they block the hypervisor from doing its job.

  • Time machine was not working.  I bought a new time machine and migrated time machine files to new time capsule; not recognized by yosemite

Time machine was not working after yosemite upgrade on new and old MacBooks in my house.  I bought a new time machine and migrated time machine files to new time capsule. I changed the names of the older sparse bundles to the default values.  Yosemite still does not recognize them.

I presume the bought a time machine means a time capsule.
How did you migrate the Time Machine files?
From where? A Time Capsule or external drive?
It is difficult to get TM working with Yosemite.. since it doesn't work after the upgrade on the old TM backup.. it will not work on the migrated files either.
You simply start a new backup and store the old backups for a few months until you are ready to dump them.
The instructions for inheriting old backups is B5 and B6 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
However it is just unlikely to work.. TM in Yosemite is very different. Broken even.
I also strongly recommend people to use Carbon Copy Cloner or some other 3rd party backup until Apple get the bugs fixed. And after several months.. they are still rampant.

  • Hyper V: No Option to Create New Virtual Machine

After selecting my local computer as the virtualization server, there is no option to create a new virtual machine. When I right-click on my server, I only get "Remove Server", "View>", and "Help"
in the drop-down menu. According to the tutorials that I've watched, this is where "New>Virtual Machine..." should appear. What am I doing wrong?
    My machine:
    Win 8.1 Pro, 64-bit
    Intel Core i5-3470
    RAM 8192
    Graphics: GTX 660

You need to enable Virtualization under CPU / Advance settings in your BIOS.  Your motherboard must support hardware virtualization in order for this feature to be available in the BIOS. If you don't see this option then, your hardware (motherboard)
    is not compatible nor support.
Have a look at this http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-started-with-windows-8-client-hyper-v-the-right-way/

Just reboot the whole network.. restart modem .. router/TC.. clients with 2min gap.

Can I activiate friends new ipad using my computer since hers is broken?  will it automatically sync my photos and music or can I select not to sync it and just activate it.

Yes.  However, if you load anything onto her iPad from your library, when she finally gets her own iTunes up and running again, she'll lose your stuff in lieu of her own library.  No big deal.  Also, down the road when her own iTunes is up she can do a factory restore on her iPad and then do the process again with all her own stuff.  Simple really.
    Good luck.
