New CS6 on new IMAC w/o drive

New IMAC does not have a CD drive. Ordered new CS6 but can't load it, can I down load from Adobe using the key (SN) on the CDs box?

All the CS 6 downloads are available as Trial downloads on Adobe.com website.
Depending on the product you purchased, you can download the trial version from the Adobe website and then can install and serialize the same using the serial number you received.

I share this person's pain.  And was just now about to ask the same question.  So, in effect we're screwed.  I have the disc but without a drive I think E12 and this computer is going to have a very short life in my life.  And for the life of me, why is so darn hard to get questions answered by Adobe?  Good grief...I have 2 books and have saty through enough video "tutorials" to last me for some time!

Yes.  Unfortunately, I don't know the specifics because I don't use iPhoto anymore and I completely copied over 15 years of MP3 files recently when I installed 10.7.  Needless to say, I have not opened iTunes since and probably never will again - not because of iTunes but because of my stupidity.  I did have some of the files backed up but I hadn't backed up in a while.......anyway....
When I imported my CD's, I had them go directly to my external firewire.  I can't remember exactly how to set it, but in the preference section of iTunes you can specify an import destination to any drive that's available to your machine.  I did this with iPhoto as well way back at one point when I was using Tiger, but I don't remember the specifics on that either.  I can't imagine they would have discontinued support for that feature since then.
    Sorry I couldn't help more.

  • Is there a pro code for a new imac and super drive?

Is there a pro code for a new imac and super drive?

    Hi ..
No, there isn't but you might want to take a look at refurbished iMacs >  Refurbished Mac Computers - Refurbished Notebooks & Desktop Computers - Apple Store (U.S.)
Refurbished products come with the same one year limited warranty as does a new product.

  • I am waiting for a new iMac with two drives: SSD   conventional hard drive. How can I transfer only a certain number of applications to the SSD and the rest to the physical hard disk drive?

I am expecting a new iMac (i7 with SSD). How can I transfer only certain applications along with the system, library etc. to this limited (space) HD and other applications to the conventional disk HD in order to save space on the SSD?
    Thank you,

I have the same scenario, using an SSD for my start-up drive. I have copied my Applications folder to a mechanical hard drive and created symbolic link to it. The symbolic link resides on the SSD and works properly.
That may not be the best solution.  Many updaters expect apps, especially Apple apps, to be in the  /Applications folder on the OSX drive;  if there are updates, the apps may not be found, thus may not be updated.  I don't know if the installers/updaters will follow a symbolic link or not.
DItto some apps, especially Adobe apps, won't even work if they're anywhere else.  Again, I don't know if they'll follow a symbolic link, either.

  • New iMac/external hard drive - redirected to play, but song info greyed out, so can't edit?

I have got myself a lovely new iMac and can play music on my iTunes through my external hard drive. I have redirected iTunes to do this. The iTunes media folder is correctly showing as my external hard drive, but when I go in to the song info section, the info is greyed out, so I can't amend the info.
I was wanting to do a bit of house-keeping before importing the whole library, but this problem isn't going to allow it.
I'm also worried I've not imported it correctly so future adds to my iTunes won't go to my external hard drive and will go on to the iMac.
    Any help would be appreciated....

Yeah, library was made with Windows.
How do I reassociate the library?
I noticed that the hard drive is 'you can read only' in the permissions and sharing section - is that the issue?
If I take everything off the h/d and put it on to the mac and then back across to the h/d will that fix. The songs are not 'greyed' out when on the mac's hard drive.

  • Time capsule with new iMacs plus flash drive

I have just bought a new 2 TB Tme Capsule - but, in setting it up it is not clear if it will backup both the internal 1 TB hard drive AND the flash drive (256GB)
Is this possible? If so how?  I have been around in circles with the Time machine settings and they are not clear over this (to me at least!)
Also, I have connected my Macbook Pro to the Time Capsule via Ethernet cable - so, can this also be backed up on the same Time Capsule?
Am I correct in assuming the Time Capsule will arrange three partitions for each of these backups ?  If, as I hope - it also backs up the flash drive!

Please - can anyone help me sort this out?
I have set up my new 2TB Time Capsule using airport utility.  Wireless network is working fine for my  iMac, Macbook Pro and iPad2.  My iMac has a dual drive - 256 Flash drive and 1TB hard drive
When I open up Time machine on my iMac and choose 'Select Disk'  I do NOT see the tw drives as separate drives (to be backed up) - my list shows only iMac i7 hard drive, Data (on 'my name' Time Capsule) and an icon with 'Set up Pther time Capsule.
I get the same list on my Macbook Pro - just Data and 'Set up other Time capsule'
    So, my questions are
If I switch on Time machine backup - will it backup BOTH the flash drive and the 1TB hard drive?
Will I 'see' these as separate backup drives - or just a list of files?
Does the same apply to my Macbook Pro?
I have several other external, firewire hard drives - when I attached one to my MacbookPro it apeared on the list - so, would this ne backed up as well?
    Thanks Alan
PS I have 700 GB of photos on my iMac Hard drive - so I do not want to start any Time machine backups until I know that it is backing up what I want it to back up!

  • Retail CS6 install on iMac without optical drive.

Just bought a new iMac and of course it has no optical drive. I also purchased a retail copy of CS6, but it hasn't arrived yet. Can I download CS6 and then just use the product key that comes in the retail box to activate it...or will I have to install the software via an optical drive (which I will also have to purchase)? Thanks.

Lotekschmotek please see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 for information on how to download the software.  Also you can copy the files to a USB drive on a computer which does have an optical drive.  You can then use the USB drive to install the software on the new computer.  You may also want to consider getting an external optical drive in case you have a need to install other software or read other optical media in the future.

  • Booting new iMac from portable drive

    Hi,
I have a new 27" iMac on which i wanted to reinstall OSX 10.8. I have a small USB hard drive with 10.8.2 which easily boots a 15" MacBook Pro with retina display. However, when i tried the same drive with the iMac i got a grey screen with a circle and a line through it and nothing more happened.
Anyone have an idea as to what might be the problem?
    Thanks

The Late 2012 iMac requires a special OS X 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 that it's only available for this iMac, so it's normal that you can't start from a bootable OS X Mountain Lion created with the build for other Macs. Also, you can only get this version from Internet Recovery.
To reinstall OS X Mountain Lion, press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X, so it will download the correct OS X build for the Late 2012 iMac

  • My user data ( music, movies, et. al.) take up too much space to fit on my SSD. How do I use the user folder I've copied to my new iMac's hard drive?

As above. I can use Migration Assistant to move my account from my old machine, but the data are far too extensive to fit on the solid state drive. I copied my user folder over to the new hard drive, but how do I access its contents? More accurately, how do I set the folder on the hard drive as my default storage space?

  • New iMac with 1TB Drive - Weird HDD sound when spinning down/parking

    Hi All,
Just got my 24" iMac and love it.
However after 1 day in operation, I noticed something weird about the hard drive (1TB Hitachi):
When powering down the system / putting it to sleep, the hard drive would spin down (obviously). The usual humming pitch would lower until there's almost no sound. However 2-3 seconds afterwards, there is this weird sound that scares me:
WOOOP... WOooop.... wooop... weeeep.. Sounding like the actual disc is unbalanced and slowly coming to halt... like a squeeking wheel only in much lower pitch.
The drive works fine in normal operation - speedy, relatively quiet (as to be expected with a 3.5" drive)... But this sound is really concerning me as I never heard something like this before.
Should I be concerned or can anybody confirm this HD model's behaviour as normal?
(I don't want to be stuck with a dead drive and lost data in 1-2 months)
    Thanks,
    Tom

I do not have the 1TB drive in my iMac so without hearing the sound it's hard to judge. I have heard drives make sound like you described and there been nothing wrong with it. It may just be the resonance from the drive spinning down. However like yourself I'd be a bit concerned as well. I would start by making sure you have your data backed up then run some diagnostics on the drive.
    1. Verify SMART status- Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility select the drive on the left then look at the details down at the bottom. Or download and install SMART Utility: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
    2. Verify the directory- Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility select the drive on the left then click on Verify Disk.
    3. Surface Scan- If you have Apple Care install TechTool Deluxe from the disk provided. Run TechTool and select the Surface Scan option. This will check every block on the drive.
If it passes all of the above I would feel fairly confident that the drive is fine but you still might want to give Hitachi support a call and ask them about it. If the noise still really bothers you call Apple support and tell them that the drive is making abnormal sounds and see if they will replace it.

  • New iMac 500 GB drives

It seems that the Hitachi and Seagate 500 GB drives are SATA2 drives. Does anyone know if the latest iMac is SATA2 or will these drives just run at the slower SATA speed.

Serial ATA II (3G) drives are backword compatible with SATA 150. The only problem will be whether or not the iMac can read the heads and sectors correctly to give you the full 500GB drive. If it doesn't read it you'll have to partition the drive into 2 smaller drives and go from there.
