New CTO Macbook Pro - can it be returned within 14day if need be

I understand that apple gives a 14 day money back guarantee, although there is a chance that a 10% stocking fee will be charged ( rumors say that the stocking fee's are not always applicable). If i ordered a CTO macbook pro from apple.com (upgraded with sdd and ram) and later decided that i dont want it ( which i doubt) is it still easy to return it within the 14 day period. And what if it was faulty within the 1 year period, would i still get the same spec brand new macbook pro?
Just thought i would ask as it crossed my mind today.

In the UK the relevant words are in the small print are:
7.1Right to withdraw from the contract. If you are not satisfied with any Product or the terms of any entitlement to Services you have purchased from us, you may return the Product to us or cancel the entitlement to Services and obtain a refund of the price of the returned Product or Service entitlement if you contact us within 14 Calendar Days of delivery of the Product or entering into the contract for the purchase of Services.
7.2 Exceptions to the right to withdraw from the contract. Products. You may not return a Product and claim a refund if the Product concerned is: a) Software which we supplied to you sealed and unused and you have broken the seal or which you have successfully downloaded from the AppleStore website; or b) a personalized product such as iPod or iPad with an engraving made in accordance with your specifications. (ii) Services. You may not obtain a refund for a Service if you have commenced use of the Service.
So a CTO computer is returnable.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro can't handle 720p Video in iMovie?

Well, my Black 2.0 GHz Core Duo MacBook has been replaced by the new 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (I had to pay the difference) and I had it upgraded to 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive!
I use a Kodak z1085 IS Digital Camera that records videos in 720p quality. When I import them into iMovie '09, I get this message:
This is the same thing that I got on my Core Duo MacBook. If I did not optimize the video, it would play choppy and could not keep up. On my new MacBook Pro, I still get this message saying that "my computer can't handle it." I can undersatnd my old Core Duo MacBook not being able to handle it, but when a brand new $2000 MacBook Pro can't handle 720p video, somthing has to be wrong here.
Are there cretin specs that indicate what computer can handle what? I'm guessing that this MacBook Pro CAN handle it, but why am I still getting that message? Do I need a $10,000 Mac Pro Tower system to make it happy?
Can anyone please explain this and help me out?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    +Well... for starters, the 2.26GHz MB Pro is not a $2,000 machine.+
Sorry...$1.5 thousand. Still too much for a brand machine that isn't "powerful enough" to run software that came out before the computer did.
+For all intents and purposes, it's an entry level notebook (despite the name "Pro")... with only slightly higher specifications than the white MacBook.+
So its only slightly better then the model that can only handle solitaire or any other basic application? I find it odd Apple would include iLife if these machines can't handle all of the features that they are supposed to. Pro means professional. that means this machine should be able to handle PRO applications like Final Cut, etc. But how can it if it can't even handle iMovie! Not to mention they screwed us out of using the old version...so I am stuck using this version!
+I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your black MacBook was replaced by a new 2.26GHz machine... but you had to pay the difference... It sounds like you were perhaps having problems with your MacBook and Apple allowed you to upgrade to the newest version paying something additional. If that's the case, it sounds like they were very generous as you had a first gen MacBook that was about three years old.+
Yes that is exactly what happened. My Black MacBook had many issues. I sent it in for repair three times and even took it to an Apple store when I was on vacation. (don't have any apple stores where I live) All of these repairs did not fix the problems and they kept on coming! So they offered to just replace it. But they don't sell the Black MacBook anymore. Only the white...and I don't like the white (thats why I bought the black!) so that is when they offered me the MacBook Pro if I paid the difference. In which I did. So that is how I got my new MacBook Pro.
+Are you saying that your video plays choppy on your new machine... or just that you get the message stating that it may play poorly?+
Both....It shows that message, and does play somewhat choppy. Not as choppy as the old MacBook though.
Like I said, I'd just like to know what Apple calls "good enough" so it doesn't display that warning.

I have succesfully migrated my data from my 2006 MacBook to a new 2011 MacBook Pro. How do I delete ALL of my personal data from the MacBook so my girlfriend can use it to support iTunes and her iPod?

Order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 from The Apple Store as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.
Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility.
You can now follow the instructions on the install screen

    computer?

    apps
If you have an iPod touch or iPhone with iOS 4 or later software, or an iPad, you can use iTunes to transfer files between your computer and an app on your device that supports file sharing.
You might want to do this if, for example, you want to save files you create on your device to your computer, or take files with you so you can use them when you’re away from your computer.
You don’t need to sync your device to transfer files, but your device needs to be connected to your computer.
For information about supported apps, see the documentation for your apps.

To transfer files from your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to your computer:
Connect your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device (below Devices), and click the Apps button.
Below File Sharing, from the list on the left, select the app on your device that you want to transfer a file from.
From the list on the right, select the file you want to transfer, and click “Save to.”
In the window that appears, select the destination where you want to save the file, and click Choose.
The file is saved to the selected destination on your computer.
SImport music and video already on your computer
If you have audio or video files on your computer, you can import them into iTunes so that they appear in your iTunes library.
    Hide
Here are ways to add items from your computer to your iTunes library:
Drag a file or folder from the Finder to the iTunes window.
If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
In iTunes, choose File > “Add to Library,” locate a file or folder, and then click Choose.
By default, iTunes places a copy of each audio file in the iTunes folder (Home/Music); the original file remains in the current location. For information about adding an alias to the file (instead of creating a copy), see Add items to your library without copying them to your iTunes folder.

  • Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?

Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?  I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive.  I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future.  So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options?  If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices.  But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop).  I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined!  (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices.  I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question?  Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future?  Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops!  And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?
    Thanks everybody!

The modules are proprietary. They are installed in a slot secured with a tiny screw.
macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop.

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

  • New 2015 MacBook Pro 13 Iris 6100 - can it run single 5k display?

Hello.  I'm thinking about buying the new 2015 MacBook Pro 13-in with Retina Display with the new Intel Iris 6100 and pairing it with a Dell UP2715K 5k monitor to run 2560x1440 in retina mode.
The specs on the Apple.com website for the new MacBook say the following:
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors.
Although there's no mention of 5120 by 2880 support it can successfully run two 4k monitors simultaneously, which I would think is more demanding than a single 5k monitor.
    Can anyone offer any insight?
    Thank you.

Allright, it took me some time to figure out why the write and read speeds were lagging compared to numerous speed tests of rMBP 13" of same year and build.
During the setup process, when starting up your new rMBP the first time, you'll be asked whether you want to activate FileVault. I activated it.
As soon as you turn off FileVault and restart your mac and do the speedtest again, it should give better results. As shown in the screenshot you can see that my write and read speeds are now on par with the other speedtests on the internet. Both 1080p50 and 1080p59.94 formats at 12 Bit RGB are now checked.
Turning off FileVault solved this issue.
P.S. the whole thing about the NVMExpress only applies to the early 2015 12" MacBook. http://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/11/nvme-mac-os-x/
