New Curve Firmware - Should I delete the Vendors file first?

I got an email today saying there's a new version of the Curve 8900 firmware available (an update to v4.6.1) which "includes optimizations and enhancements approved by your wireless service provider."
I'm with T-mobile and my phone was unlocked following T-mobile's instructions.  That said, before updating, should I remove the Vendor's file, or is that not necessary since I am actually a T-mobile customer?
Has anyone had and good/bad experiences with this new update?

I am with T-Mobile too, and I upgraded the software (which was actually a downgrade from Italy's software).
So far, so good. When I upgraded to the Itally release, I noticed faster BB workings, but a lag on the screen when answering or ending a call - I still have that same lag with this software.
I must say though, that I do feel better having a T-Mobile approved (per the email from BB) software on my phone - just in case I have to call about a problem. (if you have any software not approved by them, and you call for help, they will tell you to install their software and call back if you are still having a problem.)

  • Should I delete the "Recovered files" in my trash?

Occasionally, 1 or more folders will be in my trash labeled "Recovered files". The contents of these folders are random things on my computer. Currently, it is an text bullet from Pages. I checked in Pages to see if it was still in the program's bullet list. It was still there, so I'm thinking that I can delete it from my trash.
This kind of thing happens with other stuff too, and I want to know if I can always delete them from my trash.

    Hi,
Yes, you can delete those files.
*A folder called Recovered Files appears in my Trash*
One or more Recovered Files folder may appear in your Trash after restarting your computer. The recovered files are temporary files used by Mac OS X applications. Usually temporary files are deleted by an application when it no longer needs them. If an application quits unexpectedly, the temporary files may not get deleted by the application. When you restart your computer, Mac OS X moves these temporary files to the Trash.
You can retrieve useful files by dragging them out of the Trash. In most cases, however, the temporary files are not important and it is safe to empty your Trash.

  • Should I delete the pppconfd file

I found little 10-year-old hands playing with my Powerbook, after which I discovered a file in the Trash which the Powerbook seems not to want me to delete. This folder sequence currently sitting in the Trash is: private --> var --> run --> This final "run" folder contains a 0kb Unix executable file named "pppconfd".
Do I delete it? If not, where do I slide it back to?
At the moment, during general Trash emptying, I'm getting the message: "The operation cannot be completed because the item "run" is in use.
    Thanks in advance.
PS: The 10-year-old swears that nothing else has been deleted or moved and that he has no idea how this happened. Provided I get two clear weeks of faultless operation of the Powerbook to prove he is telling the truth, I might let him out of the garden shed.

You need to return the contents of the Trash to their original location.
I'm puzzled how your 10 year old was able to delete an otherwise invisible file. The private folder is not visible to users. Furthermore, it is owned by the system and putting it in the Trash requires authentication and an admin account access.
If your 10 year old is using the computer through your admin account, then you need to implement some security by creating a separate standard account for the 10 year old and change your password so he/she no longer can access the computer through your account.

  • After I zip a file, should I or can I delete the original files since I'm trying to save space, or do I have to keep the original one?

I'm trying to free some space up on my computer and was going to start compressing as many files as I can.  I noticed that when I compress one, I see the new zipped file and then still the original files.  So, should I delete the original files after I get the zip file?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can delete the original files.
But if you're running short of space, consider getting a larger HD for your Mac.

  • If I create a new Apple ID and I delete the old one, Will I lose my purchases and data?

If I create a new Apple ID and I delete the old one, my books, songs, docs and all the data that my old Apple ID contained including my purchased Apps will appear in my new Apple ID and its associated Icloud?
I want to create a new Apple ID but do not lose my data and purchases, How could I do it?

Are you entering your Existing Email Address for which you have Access and also are you Entering the Password which Matches Apple Requirement ?
Enter the Email Address that you already have (like Gmail, Yahoo, MSN, Live, etc) but you have never used it for creating Apple ID before.
Passwork Requirement is Minimum 8 Characters, Alpha Numeric and Password should Content atleast 1 Upper Case and 1 Lower Case Letter. You will find the more detail on the same page when Creating Apple Id and iTunes will give you Error if the Password you enter does not match their requirement.

At 1.3GB available, your storage space is getting very thin no matter what you do further.  As long as you have the photo's in the camera roll saved on your computer you can delete them.  Just make sure first that they are in your photo software.  If updating in iTunes, just backup/sync first, then update, and that will save the camera roll in the backup as well.
At only 1.3GB you eventually are going to find yourself unable to install or update some app, or unable to take any new pictures, or some other limitation that will force you to free up space anyway.  So now, before updating, sounds like a good time to make sure everything is backed up or stored somewhere else, and clean house a bit, then update.

  • Aperture adds the same name to all new locations, how do I delete the name but not the address?

Aperture adds the same name to all new locations, how do I delete the name but not the address?

It's easy to rename each unit.  When you connect your iPad and it syncs, the unit will appear on the left of the iTUnes screens just click on the unit there and you can rename it.  You should do this immediately so you can see which unit was backed up by it's name. You can sync as many decices as you want in one iTunes library and you can even share Apps as long as you're going to sync both from teh same iTunes account.  My household has 2 iPad 2s and we share our apps, and we also share downloaded books, magazines, music, etc.......

  • Should I delete the old version of Firefox 6.0

Should I delete the old version after downloading the newest version?

It's the same as almost every other Mac app, quit it and drag the new version into the same folder(usually the Applications folder) as the old one and it'll overwrite it preserving the preferences as it does so.
Though It should have done this itself via the auto update function in firefox.

I'm a new Apple user - when I deleted some large files the available space on the hard drive in the activity monitor
didn't increase - I emptied the trash - am i missing a step to tidy the hard drive?

    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click View > Show Status Bar
You should now see the the free space available at the bottom of any Finder window and that should change after you empty the Trash.

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • Trying to use a new, larger external hard drive for my Time Machine backup.  However, every time I start the backup, it gets started then fails.  And, I can't delete the few files that did save on the external.  Sort of a catch 22.  Any ideas?

Is it a USB hard drive?  USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice.  Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem.  If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time.  I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

So the answer to my question is yes - from an old Exchange account that was provided by a previous employer.
    If so, you can't.
You can't merge or transfer contacts that were synced over the air with an Exchange account with another account, and the same for syncing the contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer. This is how most employers want it.
