New Customer Very Slow BB Speed

Hi,
Im looking for some help with my broadband speed, the technical help in India don't seem to be very knowledgeable.
When signing to BT I asked what speeds I could hope to achieve, I was told between 5-8 which I was very happy about as iv just moved into a new build house in a small village.
I work from home from my PC so its vital to me to have a good connection to work from. I arranged the whole move around the date they gave me for the engineers visit to install the new physical line. Which was booked over a month in advance, only to be cancelled by text the day before I moved in @ 6pm on a Sat.
A month later I finally have a line installed with a pathetic 0.8 connection, more dial up speed than broadband!
After a lot of phone calls to the tech department im now being told my line should receive 3.5 meg not the 5-8 meg I was told by the sale department.
If I could get 3.5 right now I would be over the moon, never thought I would say that. Iv left the BT hub on now for ten days and my speeds have gone down from 1.2 to 0.8 and im finding it impossible to work with these speeds.
Iv tried to test my speeds with the bt speed tester site but it wont let me, I get an error  (Sorry, we can't run the test for your number at the moment. Please go to the download speed check.) So I have been using speedtest.net
The test are done with a i7 16gb rig, using ethernet cable to the bt hub, the hub is connect to the master socket with the filter supplied by bt. There's no home phone connected and all other wireless devices are disconnected.
Iv asked neighbours and other people in the village what speeds they are receiving and im told between 3-7meg so im hoping something can be done to increase my speed??
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry James, didnt see that, heres the full details.

  • Re: New Customer Very Slow BB Speed

    I'm afraid I cannot follow all this technical stuff, but I am VERY dissatisfied with my BT Broadband speed. The customer shouldn't have to know and do all that stuff. I was previously with Virgin and it just WORKED !   This is awful.
    When I run BT Speed test it tells me 5.3 mbps.  When I use an independant speedtester it tells me 1.3 mbps.
    Which is correct, and why the difference ?

  • Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

    I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
    So, where is the problem??
    I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
    Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

    You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.
    Anyone???

  • E1200 router: very slow download speeds, ok uploady got

    I recently set up a new E1200 router to replace my old one. We are having problems with very slow download speeds (often <0.10 Mbps) even while the upload speeds are OK (8-10 Mbps). Our previous download speed over wifi was 10-15 Mbps.
    When I first set it up, the download speed was very poor on the initial computer. After fooling around, it was fine. I don't know what I did that made it speed up. However, my wife's computer has had very poor download speeds. After rebooting my computer, the download speed has also dropped bak to <0.10. I was able to stream Hulu on my Wii just fine an hour ago.
    What could the problem be?

    So we could have this isolated, check how much speed you’re getting straight to the modem so we’ll have some point of comparison that from your internet provider. If through the router, you have struggles with not getting an acceptable value for download speed especially if it only happens with the wireless connection, you can try these: change the wireless channel and the wireless security on the router. If on the router, you have the channel set to auto by default change it to (3,6,9,11), just have to play around with it. Moreover, for the wireless security, select WPA2 Personal. If that doesn’t make any difference, update the firmware of the router, reset and have it reconfigured.

  • Why i have very very slow downloading speed on wifi on iphone5

    While on wifi I am experiencing very slow downloading speed on iPhone 5. My iPhone 5 is a brand new phone, I have to wait for hours to complete a running download of about 40mb or so. Please help me and tell me if there is any solution to that. On the same wifi network I have the new iPad and iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, all are working perfectly getting perfect speed while downloading but I can't on iPhone 5.

    What you did was fine. Leopard is a little different to 10.4.11, but:
    Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
    Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
    In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
    This only takes a minute or two.

    If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
    Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Very slow broadband speeds

    Hello
    My first post, and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me with this.
    For a few days now, I've been experiencing very slow broadband speeds (100kbps or less), in contrast to the 1.5 - 2Mbps that I would usually expect to get.  I've been on hold to BT technical support for some time, and have got through twice, on both occasions being told that this is a widespread issue and to wait until the next day. However, I'm not seeing any improvement.  I'm aware of the problems in Edinburgh and the North of England,but I'm in East Anglia.
    speedtester.bt.com shows:
    Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 135 k

    Thanks for any help.
    Deej.

    Once a line is stable and working well, it's best left running 24/7
    Interventions like resets, replacing accelerators, unplugging the router etc. will cause line "flapping"
    And the dslam sees this as instability, and in turn the BRAS lowers the IP profile ....
    This is done to achieve stability, and decrease throughput purposefully, all done automatically.
    What you have to do, is cure any line noise, plug directly into the master or test socket behind the NTE
    faceplate, leave it connected and wait for the throughput to increase.
    Very often a rock bottom IP may need a kick to get it out of the doldrums.
    Eventually the noise margin will decrease, sync will increase, and IP profile go up.
    Depending on how long the line has suffered impulse noise, will determine the time for SNR to come down.
    Regardless of which type of phone you used to test quietline ... hum or crackle is a no-no.
    It may be the cause of the problems.  It could be REIN on the network portion of the connection or dslam
    crosstalk, either way it needs to be reported as line noise before you can count it out of the equation.

  • Very Slow Download Speed

    Hi,
    I am experiencing very slow downloading speeds, when I am just normally downloading something in Safari, or downloading a torrent with upto 100 seeders.
    The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s, which is painfully slow for downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb.
    I have a router, connected to 2 computers, and speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s.
    It seems like download speeds are being restricted to 80kb/s, so is there any way to 'unlock' full potential downloading speeds?
    Any help much appreciated!

    I think you're making the same mistake a lot of people make.
    The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s
    Safari reports downloads in kiloBYTES per second, not kilobits, so that 80KB/s translates to about 640 kilobits per second.
    downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb
    Really? 1 gigabit per second? I assume that's a typo.
    speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s
    therefore your downloads are progressing at about 64% of maximum. That sounds about right - you won't get maximum throughput for every download - it will vary based on server location, network load and more.

  • Very slow download speeds with ATT U-Verse

    Hello,
    Experiencing very slow download speeds with Macbook Pro 2011, on Lion,  and ATT UVerse Max, which should allow for an avg. 11-12 MBPS speed. Instead, I get a fluctuating 60-370 kbps speed. I am not experiencing this problem on my Windows machines (Laptop running Windows 7 and Desktop on XP), it is only affecting the Macbook pro. I wonder if this issue is a known problem with ATT U-Verse and Macs, I spent hours yesterday with their support online and they couldn't help me, stating that from their side all settings were OK; the first representative from ATT re-booted the router remotely and that seemed to work for about 10 minutes, and then it went back to a crawling speed...
    Any suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

    Do you have QOS enabled in your router? Did you try plugging the win7 laptop directly and check the speed?

  • Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) u...

    Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) unlimited after phone line fix (street cabinet) ?
    Had my line fixed today by engineer (no dial tone).
    Download rate near normal but upload = 0.73Mbps!?
    I reset modem and router after he left and appreciate my profile is probably in need of some TLC after a weeks line fault, but is this normal in this situation? I heard it can take some time to reprofile my line and before it was fixed it was even worse at 0.10Mbps
    Just seems very low considered the line is now operational again.

    48Hrs+ on from residential line reconnection my business infinity 2 broadband upload speed is now approaching normal speed levels.
    What a 10 days that was all because some ass disturbed the cabling in the street cabinet!
    Yes I'm aware I have business broadband and am talking about it in a residential based forum, but my actual phone line is still residential that it is supplied over and the business broadband product is much the same animal as that supplied to residential customers i.e. Infinity 2 Unlimited. Only the mail and option of static i.p. appear different - that is all.
    Jeez.

    I'm with Sky, and have had very slow broadband for a while now. Above are the statistics from the test socket. Sky seem to think there is a problem with the line. I've now plugged the router into the main socket.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    **EDIT** My phone line is with BT, my broadband is with Sky. The problem Sky says is with the phone line it seems.

    Hi Joe,
    Try sticking your telephone number into this line tester page and let us know if it finds a fault. If it comes back clear, you'll need to go back to Sky as there'll be no issues with your telephone line. If it comes back with a line fault, we can get it progressed towards a fix

  • Creation of new OracleConnection VERY SLOW in VS2008

    Hi all,
    I've only found one other post regarding this issue with the latest version of the oracle data provider (2.111.6.20) on the Oracle Developer Tools for VS Forum (at: Re: Need help troubleshooting extremely slow ODT speeds in VS 2005. Figured I'd post it here to see if anyone else is experiencing problems.
    I've got VS2008 with the latest release of ODAC/Developer tools for VS installed and when I try to just create a connection object (i.e. OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection()), it is taking upwards of 45 seconds to create. Obviously this is unsuitable. Is this a known bug? If so, do I need to revert back to older version of OracleDataAccess assembly as stated in the aforementioned post?
    I'm really looking for a solution with this version however, as I'm trying to work with some UDTs in Oracle and converting to custom types in .NET and from what I've read, this latest version is the only one that can do so. (correct me if I'm wrong).
    Any information is appreciated!

    Hi Greg. Indeed, it is the constructor, which seemed very strange to me. But, here's my latest developments... Guess I failed to mention what platforms I was running on, which I'm pretty sure probably had something to do with it. I had a development environment on both a Vista 64-bit, and a Windows Server 2008 (both VMWare virtual machines). Each had two oracle clients installed, both 11g (instant) and 10gR2 (full), as I needed the 10g client for Quest Code tester (entirely different issue!). Anyway, I'm fairly certain that neither of those platforms are officially supported, so most likely my fault.
    I didn't run your test, but I had something similar set up as follows:
    using System;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Client;
    using System.Diagnostics;
    namespace oratest
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch();
    sw.Start();
    OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection();
    sw.Stop();
    TimeSpan ts = sw.Elapsed;
    Console.WriteLine(ts.Seconds.ToString());
    The results printed ranged from 20-45 seconds!!!
    So, I went ahead and created exactly the same setup on a Vista 32-bit virtual machine. Ran the same test and voila, 0 seconds. If your interested, I ran with the ts.Milliseconds.ToString() in the last line and it resulted in 611 milliseconds. So, I've moved my current project development environment to the new Vista 32-bit virtual machine and it seems to be working fine.
    Just as a side bar however, I've also been doing quite a bit of development on a real (non-virtual) 64-bit Vista machine, and the new ODP has been working just fine. But, I have only the 11g client installed on that machine. Could it be confusion between the multiple versions? Platform issues? Both? Don't know myself, but am content enough to work in my new environment.
    Cheers,
    Aaron

  • Win 7 on bootcamp partition, very slow internet speed

    hi!
    it might be an answer to my problem somewhere on this forum, but
    right now i do not have the time to browse through - so ill just post my problem quick and simple.
    im running windows 7 ultimate on a intel imac, via bootcamp. the issue is simple, yet pretty annoying.
    in iOS, my internet speed is great, as it should be (my bandwidth is 12/12 mbit).
    but in windows 7, for some reason (been like this ever since install) things are going SO slow.
    i mean, watching videos on youtube is a nightmare, every 3 second at lowest quality possible, it still
    has to buffer. same goes for other streaming sites/services. downloading usually does not exceed 300 kb/ps, but in
    ios this could easily hit 1,5 mb/ps.
    if i listen to music on say grooveshark (adjusted to lowest quality) the music stops to buffer if i load a different webpage. its that bad.
    ive taken a bandwidth check in windows and in iOS, and in iOS the speed is normal, in windows its 1/10th of what it should be.
    anyone know why this problem persists?
    as i know of, windows 7 doesnt have any bandwidth limiting of default.
    so i thought it might be a windows 7/imac hardware conflict. help?

    Hi, I'm having the same problem.
    I installed win8.1(64bit) on a iMac7,1 20inch(mid 2007) using Winclone.
    Everything was working fine after I downloaded some driverhelper and installed those drivers.
    Yet the internet on Win8.1 is very slow, the download speed is merely 60-100kb/s .
    While if I open the Mac system, the same resource can easily to beyong 2MB/s.
    As I have 25Mb/10Mb connection at home.
    I'm new here , don't know exactly what driver I need to fix this problem.
    Try to install boot camp.
    However, I tried 5.0 / 4.0 , it all said bootcamp x64 is not supported on this computer model.
    Don't know where i can download the bootcampe 3.0 to have a try ?
    Or is it just too old iMac to be fixed?
