New D-Link router won't connect to DirecTV cinema kit

Just got & installed a new D-link DSL 2750B yesterday. I set it up with my existing SSID & WPA passcode -- all my devices work perfectly, EXCEPT my DirecTV cinema kit which is a wireless receiver. IT was fine until the new setup. I spent ( so far ) over 5 hours trying to set this up. The DirecTV techs ( 2 ) I spoke with don't have a clue. I reset everything multiple times to no avail.  The DirecTV forums list several resetting steps, all of which i tried. Nothing. If anyone has any clue as to what i can try, I'd certainly appreciate the help. The router didn't come with any manual and I'm not too comfortable changing any settings other than the security mode ( WPA, etc ) without some guidance. Thanks in advance.

Bottom Line: If you have a Dlink DSL2750b from Verizon and are trying to install DirectTV cinema connection STOP RIGHT NOW and save youself the five hours I just spent learning that the two are simply incompatible.
For some reason no one at DirecTV knew this and put me though endless paces to no avail, including a change to my router password that now means I have to reconnect all of my devices.
Once I learned in DirectTV forums that this Dlink modem router is incompatible with DirectTV I called Verizon and the tech agent said, "Oh yes that one is incompatible with DirecTV." And he cheerfully ordered a free replacement, the Actiontec GT784WNV, which I haven't gotten yet but was promised it will be fine.
Two Questions:
1) For DirecTV, why in the world isn't this a known issue for your tech team so that they don't have to belabor consumers with hours of troubleshooting that does no good.
2) Most importantly, for Verizon, why in the world do you even send out a modem that isn't compatible with the growing use of internet connection equipment for TVs? Or at least tell us before we order them.

  • Connect D-Link 2750B wirelessly to DirecTV cinema kit

I am a new Verizon HSI customer (FIOS not available yet), packaged with DirecTV. I am trying to create the wireless connection between the D-Link 2750B and DirecTV cinema. Laptops, tablets, cell phones all connected to the DLink with no problems.
I am getting a password validation error when trying to connect the DirecTV cinema to the D-Link. **NOTE**  My SSID and my password DO NOT contain any special characters or spaces. That is not the problem.  I have spent time with customer support from Verizon and DirecTV with no solution so far. And again, laptops, tablets, phones and printers all connect wirelessly fine.
I am using method 2 set up for a whole house DVR. I have seen where other people have had the same issue with communication between the two, but no solution. Can someone please help?

I have been trying for the past 3 Saturdays.  Even had a new router sent from Verizon.  Have been back and forth between  Verizon and DirecTV without any solution.  DirecTV said there IS an internet connection that the problem is in the router.  Has anyone found the solution?  Am ready to switch back to another service.

  • I cannot connect external USB HDD to my new TP-Link Router

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new TP-Link Modem Router with a USB port on the back.
I have been using a WD My Passport external HDD for Time Machine backups and photos for some time. I ususally connect it directly to my Macbook each time i want to backup.
With the new router, I was hoping to connect the HDD to the USB port and be able to connect over my wireless network, but have not been able to.
The router recognises that a HDD is connected to it, but the Macbook will not allow me to find it or connect to it.
    Any ideas or help?
    Thanks

What kind of drives, and how are they connected? Do they have external power supplies or just use the usb bus power? Do they work in a different mac?

  • Router Won't Connect to modem so i can't get internet

All right -_- i have tried lots of stuff with this so i am getting irritated sorry. Here is my info I have a Linksys Wireless Router with SpeedBoost Firmware Version 7.2 (latest) WRT54GS. I am trying to use it with a Sprint 645 Series Modem. My IP while connected to the router and the router connected to the Modem is 192.168.1.100 which my ISP said was ok for it to work. While it is just connected to my modem it is that same thing except replace the 100 with 1. My ISP uses a security measure where The DHCP Thing is 192.168.1.1 and so is the DNS server, and the Default Gateway and im not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have used ping in the Command Prompt to make sure i am connected to the router when its plugged up and it is. This is a new router. I have perfectly fine internet with just Modem. I have tried resetting the Router and that didn't work -_-. I dont think it matters anymore because i have tried fixing it the way lots of people have told me to and it didnt work but i will tell u anyway. When i set up the router the first time i hooked everything up and turned it all on at first. Then i saw that it said Run CD first before connecting cables... those weren't in the instructions but wtv... anyway resetting it should have fixed it or so i was told by other people on this forum. I am using a Laptop with Windows Vista, and i don't have access to a desktop in case i need one XD. I can connect to the Router fine because i can get to the setup page.. and i can connect wirelessly.. The ONLY problem appears to be that the Router doesn't connect to the Modem... for wtv reason -_- I think its because of the whole security measure about how the DHCP and DSN and Gateway are all 192.168.1.1, but that is just me. I am sorry this is so long but I really want this fixed -_- i have had this Router for a month and its getting really annoying so please help . My ISP is Embarq. I ran the setup CD and I got all the way through to the last step (waiting for router) after connecting the power supply to the wall for the router. It just sits there forever and says afterwards "Error:322 Can't find router or something like that. It gives 3 steps to try to fix it. It says to make sure the Router is plugged in (it is) , it also says to make sure u didn't actually plug in your old router, (i dont have one -_-) and then retry the setup. and by setup i mean where u plug all the cords in the right way. *sigh*
If u need anything else please ask.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your second post said 'ignore this" so I guess everyone thought you had got it fixed....
When you connect through your router you have two instances of DHCP going on...one is your DSL modem giving your router an IP address on it's WAN interface. The other is the router giving your computer an IP address via the router's DHCP server. The IP the modem gives your router is in the 192.168.1.0 network. Unfortunately, by default, the LAN IP address reange on Linksys routers is also in that range. To get this to work, you need to set your LAN ip on the router to 192.168.2.1, so that the LAN and WAN interfaces of the router are in different networks.
To do that, unplug the router from the DSL modem, power it and your computer down, then connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable. Power up the router, and the computer, then browse to 192.168.1.1. Change the LAN IP on the router setup to 192.168.2.1, save the configuration, then reboot the computer. Once the computer comes back up, browse to 192.168.2.1...you should be able to get to the router setup GUI.
Power down the router, and the DSL modem, connect the router to the modem via the Internet port using an ethernet cable, then power up the modem, then the router....you should be good to go...

  • IChat And New D-Link Router Problems

    Folks,
I really need a helping hand with iChat. I've posted some problems here before which you were kind enough to help me out with but I am at wits end tonight. I just bought a new D-Link EBR-2310 Wired Router (Hardware Version B1 and Firmware Version 2.01 - the very latest version). I'm completely up to date on my iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.7 with every software update known to June 11th, 2009 including QuickTime 7.6.2. I have QuickTime Streaming set to 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet LAN and iChat Bandwidth Limit set to 500 kbps.
I use an AIM account which uses port 5190. With my old D-Link Router (DI-604), I had to set up an Advanced Virtual Server for UDP Port 5190 and I also had to disable the "Discard Ping From WAN side" function (which seems to almost defeat the purpose of the security of the router in some ways but I didn't have much choice). Making these changes seemed to fix all the iChat "communications error" problems I was having with the older router. Things seemed to work fine after making these changes mind you, this was under Mac OS X 10.5.6 and I'm now running Mac OS X 10.5.7.
In this new D-Link EBR-2310 Router, I've done much the same thing. In the Advanced Section of the new router under Application Rules, I've set up a new "application name" called iChat and configured Trigger Port 5190 UDP and Firewall Port 5190 UDP - set to "always" but should I have both UDP and TCP enabled or just UDP? I've also enabled "WAN Ping Respond" (again, this seems to defeat some of the security of the router but no choice other than to do this).
I'm getting iChat "communications errors" and just a generally poor connection with whomever I chat with. On their end, my voice will drop out at times and my image will sometimes have a little static in it. It happens with all users on their end (some are AIM users, some are dotmac/mobile me users). After a few minutes of being able to chat, the picture will freeze and a communication error pops up. We have to quit out of our connection and log back in and then it will work again for a while until the same problem occurs.
I called D-Link and they were of no help when it came to using Macs with iChat (iChat isn't even listed as one of the applications in any of the router preferences). They suggested changing the MTU from 1500 down to 1492 but my old D-Link worked fine at 1500. They also suggested disabling "SPI" in the router firewall settings. I haven't done any of this yet as they didn't know much about Macs.
Do I need to disable "SPI" in the router firewall settings? Do I need to configure both UDP and TCP ports 5190 in Application Rules? Do I need to set up some sort of Port Forwarding on this new router? Is there some other configuration I need to set up in this new router? I'm just lost. Darned near ready to do away with the router completely but we have three Macs on our network so we need the router in order for all of us to be able to access the Internet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gerard

    Hi,
    Both are correct.
iChat 3 uses 20 ports as a Range for the A/V chats as it uses 4 ports on a Vid in Vid Out, Audio In Audio Out basis where as iChat 4 sends and gets everything on one port.
The iChat 4 Article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2282 does not mention the Bonjour or Jabber Ports which are still needed (in the router and/or Modem)
What the Second Article does not list is the iChat Screen Sharing port.
For this using UPnP if the device has it is better.
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows the app to sate when and what ports are open for it (they close after a period of Non use that can be adjusted in some modem/routers).
You need this as the Screen Sharing ports is random.
The Port Forward site shows two versions
    Version 1
    Version 2
with slight differences in how the boxes can be filled in.
Neither set of pics gives clues as to whether UPnP is on there.
Yes I would disable SPI (And/Or DoS)
SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) tries to examine the data coming to your modem and judge if it is Ok to pass on.
There is so much iChat Video data in some chats that it can not keep up and closes the port.
DoS (Denial Of Service) measures the rate of data and when it reaches a threshold it cuts the port presuming it to be an attack. Of course most devices that have it have un-adjustable settings that do not reflect modern Internet Speeds.
    EDIT
This Emulator says UPnP is in Advanced Network along with Enable WAN Ping Respond (Although you do not have a time limit adjustment)

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"

  • Brand new HP Stream 7 won't connect to the internet

Took out my brand new HP Stream 7 tablet and set it up - and it won't connect to the internet.
Nothing obvious, but it reports that Wifi hardware can not be found.
I'm sure it's a driver problem - but since I can't get to the network from the machine - not exactly sure how to proceed (or whether its worth the grief - since I can just package up the box and return it).
If I go to the Control Panel - Devices and Printers - it shows a Device with my computer name on it, with a warning graphic indicating a problem, and when I click troubleshoot it tells me there is a problem with the Realtek Bluetooth UART Bus driver and offers to reinstall it again, but when I try I just get an error message telling me there's a driver problem and that the issue isn't fixed.
Have to wonder if anyone actually tests this stuff or whether they just ship it out without worrying about whether or not it works.

    Hello shaw44:
Have you tried disabling and reenabling the adapter?  Have you run the HP Support Assist which will perform some tests and it also may reset the adapter for you?
Another option is to uninstall the driver from the control panel on the desktop using Device Manager.   Windows should uninstall the driver from there.   Then, you can click "scan for hardware changes" and it should reinstall the driver.
As a last resort, If you were to get a mini USB to USB adapter or a male to female adapter (to use with the charger cord), you could download the file on anther device, transfer it to a USB flash drive and then copy it onto your Stream 7 tablet.
    Hope this helps.

  • 15" G4 PowerBook 1.67 GHz - no Internet access with new D-Link router

I've had the PowerBook for about three years, which worked fine with my Belkin router. I just bought a new D-Link DIR-655 wireless router, and it seems to work fine with my nearly new Intel iMac and my wife's MacBook. In contrast, with the PowerBook, I'm getting a signal (as indicated by the AirPort signal strength indicator), and it accepts my password for the wireless network, but I can't pull up any web pages. The security on the router is set to WPA (Personal).
Any guidance or guesses as to what's going on would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Chris

You should probably check to the log/ or DHCP Client list of the router, to see if your PowerBook getting a DHCP lease. I've had a similar problem, with my AirPort WAP. It turned out that firewall in Leopard wasn't allowing DHCP traffic through, so my Mac never picked up an IP address. You could also check to see if your Mac doesn't have a self assigned IP. This is under the "Advanced"button, "TCP/IP Tab" in Leopard. If it's self assigned, then your MAC isn't picking up an IP address from your router. Check to see if you have a SW firewall enabled on the PowerBook. If so, try turning it off.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • My new macbook pro retina won't connect to my iPhone 4s via bluetooth

Just bought macbook pro retina. have had iPhone 4s for two years and use it to tether my iPad to regularly no problem. however the macbook pro won't connect to the iPhone via bluetooth. it recognises it's there and a connection code is displayed, but when I enter the code it won't connect and the phone insists that I agree to 'forget this device'. how do I enable tethering so I can use the 3g signal to browse on my laptop whilst travelling please?

Only thing I could suggest would be to "Reset Network Settings" on the phone (Settings> General> Reset>) . Of course, this will forget and delete any saved Wi-Fi or network configurations, but if that's not a problem for you then, maybe worth a shot.
Although saying that, I think iCloud remembers old settings (if you are connected and sharing network configurations), so may not be a total loss.

  • New itunes 11.1 won't connect to iphone 4s ios6.

Just updated itunes and now it won't connect to my iphone 4s with ios 6.  Gets an error that says "iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later."  Neither reconnecting or trying again later works.  Have also rebooted my iphone.  I need to do a sync and backup before loading IOS 7 and probably buying an iphone 5S.  Anyone got any ideas?
My desktop OS is Windows 7 patched up to date.  64-bit.

Yup, I finally wised up and rebooted my desktop.  That solved the problem.
    Thanks for your reply.

After a complete reinstall of my computer (Mac Pro 5.1, nvidia GTX 120 & GTX780) i cant use dynamic link to import sequences out of other projects. Dynamic link server can't connect. What can I do to resolve this?

Well I'm not (yet) sure if it was the ethernet cable or the firewall service.  I'm guessing that the service must be reconfigured if you switch routers.  Doh!
