New DAM book from O'Reilly

Expertly crafted, very helpful, solid information, fun to read.
If you want to figure out how to set up your asset system, get this book and save yourself the effort of reinventing image cataloging. Folks have been building image databases and asset catalogs for decades and Peter Krogh cuts through the junk to the useful stuff.
The author is strictly Adobe-focused, biased toward Bridge and Camera RAW, but the information is solid. If you're already using Cumulus or iView you can benefit from these best practices to refine your original, terribly flawed catalog. Get better mileage from your images without wasting a bunch of your time doing the job.
Do not buy this book unseen, though. Go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and sit down with it for a few minutes. See if the information works for you.

Many of Addison-Wesley's programming books are good, too. They publish many of the "official" Java books like the JLS, JVM Spec, and The Java Programming Language. They also publish many classics like Design Patterns, The Practice of Programming, and The C++ Programming Language. They do have some bombs like Java in Practice, but overall their books are above average.

  • How to restore new mac book from time machine

i curentley have a mac book and am planing on upgrading to a pro but i have to sell this one first. can i restore my new mac pro using the time machine backup from this mac book or is there another way i have to do this being as i wont have both laptops at the same time??
    thanks for any help..

If you can recover the old machine (may not be worth the cost), then you could deactivate directly. A lot depends on what crashed, the HD, mother board, or other. On a PC, the hard drive can sometimes be recovered with SpinRite as long as the crash was not fatal. There are other tricks too, but all of them depend on the crash conditions and what the problem is. If the hard drive is actually good, maybe you could just put it in another machine and run the deactivation. Of course, not everyone has a bunch of machines on hand to play with. For PCs, I often head to the department surplus pile and see if I can find something to work with (not my stock). If I find a working machine there, then I just swap it out. Of course, that is for work machines. For a home machine, I might do it for testing or repair and then put things back after the repair.

  • New songs and new audio book from Audible will not sync from my computer.  Any idea why?

I updated my 4S to OS7.  I am now unable to sync new songs and new audiobook from Audible from my computer.  Any idea why?

Might be incompatible with iOS 7.
Keep in mind, Audible is not Apple software and Apple is not responsible for third party software compatibility.
Check the Audibile website for iOS 7 support.

  • Share new pdf created from existing online pdfs

Is a solution in the works to be able to create new pdf books from existing individual pdfs online? Let's say I have individual pdfs for each of my recipes, but want to create a book online to share of just my desserts. Without sending each pdf share using an individual email, can this be done?
Absolutely love the interface and where Adobe seems to be going with this.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi,
Thanks for your post. In order to combine multiple PDF's into one, you need the desktop version of Adobe Acrobat. We don't currently have plans in the works to add this feature to Acrobat.com, but I will share your feedback with the team. You could also visit our Ideas site and promote this idea - we actively use the Ideas site to prioritize the roll out of new features.

  • I accidently removed my books from ipad now they won't sync back.

I pulled a new pdf book from my PC into my books on Itunes. I accidently hit revert and removed the books already on my Ipad. I selected them again and hit sync but now only a few returned to Ipad. The others would not sync because they are showing not found. I don't understand because they are all in my Itunes. Does anyone know how I can get my books back on my Ipad? There is a new version of Itunes but I have not downloaded it. Should I?

It is usually a good idea to update iTunes when a new version is available but this should work anyway.
Connect the iPad to the computer
Launch iTunes - if you auto sync, let the sync process finish
Select the iPad in the left sidebar under "Devices"
Click on the Books tab in the iTunes Window on the right
Click on the Sync Books Heading.
Click on all of the books that you want to sync.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

  • I purchased audio books from iTunes, but they will not sync and play on my iPad.

I purchased several new audio books from iTunes and they will not download to my iPad so I can listen to them How can this be?

    Hello Rex225
The best way to resolve the issue is to remove the music from the iPhone and then download the purchase again using the steps in the following article.

  • HT201456 I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc.

I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

  • How do I migrate books from an older version of ADE on an old computer to a newer version of ADE on a newer computer?

I have installed various versions of Adobe Digital Edition on a new computer.  The program says it detects books from an older version (which is correct, I copied "my digital editions" from an older computer to a new computer), and asks if I wish to migrate them to the new version.  I say yes, the program tells me the migration is successful, but I cannot see the old books in the library.  How do I get them to show up in the library of the new version of ADE?

    Go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer iTunes purchases
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
For non-Tunes purchases you need a third-party program. The following list some of those

  • How do I transfer my iPhoto library from my old Mac Book to my new Mac Book Pro?

I took delivery of my new mac Book Pro at the weekend and was unable to transfer all my data from my old machine at the time of set-up. Can someone tell me how I can transfer my iPhoto library to my new machine while keeping all photos in the events categories I have?
    thanks

    Quit iPhoto if open.
Open your Pictures folder and select the iPhoto Library.
Copy the iPhoto Library folder or package to your new computer.

  • I set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.
