New Dell Lat e6440 Laptop - no IP address when PXE boot w/ WinPE

PXE booting is working fine with all other Dell models. PE environment loads, OSD password prompt is displayed. Task sequences are displayed.
With just this model, Dell Latitude e6440, it gets to the point where we should be prompted for a password, hangs and then reboots. When I hit F8 and enter ipconfig it shows no ip address If I do ipconfig /renew i get "The operation failed as no adaptor
is in the state permissible for this operation." If I boot the computer into Windows (OOBE as shipped by Dell) it gets an IP successfully. I've updated our WinPE boot image with every network driver I can find from Dell for this model. Any other suggestions?
We are booting with a x86 WinPE wim file.
I have injected the latest kernel mode driver framework into our WinPE wim used for PXE boot.

Hi,
Any useful information in smspxe.log?

  • Just bought a new DELL Inspiron 15R laptop, can't get Arch iso to boot

Just bought a brand new laptop and I've been really wanting to try Archlinux (coming from Fedora)
I hit F2 to go into my boot settings and I enabled "legacy" mode. I then changed the boot order to CD/DVD first, I saved the settings and rebooted the machine with the Archlinux ISO in the drive.  (this is the 10.1.2013) version of the ISO.
When the machine reboots I can see the little CD/DVD drive LED light up for a second or 2 but it's like it's not seeing the CD as a bootable CD.  I tried searching all over but I'm still stuck, desperate for help here.  Just to make sure it wasn't something wrong with the CD I tried the same CD in another machine and right away it came up with the Archlinux menu screen.
I have since installed Kali/Debian on this new machine with no problems (the new DELL) - I still want to do a dual boot with both Kali/Debian and Archlinux.  Any ideas on what I can try?

You can use the bootstrap tar.gz files that are found in the same directory as the iso on every mirror.  If you go to the download page, select the mirror of your choice, you will see a file called "archlinux-bootstrap-2013.10.01-x86_64.tar.gz" (one for i686 also).  That is what you need.
Unpack it whereever you think is appropriate, if you have enough RAM you can use /tmp.  Then after setting up the partitions in the host (Kali/Debian, or whatever), you can arch-chroot to that unpacked directory.  There you will find all the tools necessary to install (pacman and the arch-install-scripts).
This method has one issue though, and that is that the arch-chroot script (and maybe others) requires some pretty new versions of various things.  In particular, I think that a pretty new version of bash is required.  So I am not sure about the viability of this solution on anything debian, as their stable repos tend to be pretty conservative.  It also means that you need to have a pretty good understanding of the install process, as you will still mostly follow the beginners guide, but it will require a few changes in the procedure.
    Good luck.

I have photoshop CS 4 extended.  Just recently I purchased a Canon 70D as well as a Dell 17 Inspiron with windows 7.  When I download my pictures from my camera to the computer, they will not open up in raw, only jpeg.  I contacted Canon, and they told my to try something but it did not work.  How do I get my raw pictures to open up in CS 4 on my new computer from my new Canon 70D?

You will never be able to open your raw files from your new camera in CS4.
You need version 8.7.1 of the Camera Raw plug-in (ACR), which only runs in CS6 and higher.
You need to locate, download, install and run the free, stand-alone application Adobe DNG Converter on each batch of raw files from that camera, in order to convert them to raw DNG files that can be subsequently opened by ACR in CS4.
Remember you need to launch and run the DNG Converter on each folder (not files) containing your Canon raw files.  THe DNG Converter doesn't do it magically for you just sitting on your HD.
    Or you can upgrade.

  • After getting a new dell laptop, I was able to easily move my itunes library from my old mac to my new laptop, however now when I try to sync my music to my iphone,my songs have an exclimation point next to it and cant sync most of my music. HELP!

I recently was given a new dells windows 7 laptop. I then was able to successfully move my itunes library from my old mac to my new dell. Now I am trying to sync my whole library of music back onto my iphone 4, but when I try it says most of my music can not be located. I have exclimation points next to the majority of my music (I have 368 songs in my itunes acount). Please help me be able to sync my songs to my iphone. I am only able to sync about 31 of my songs.

Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.

  • IPAD sync crashes new Dell Laptop every time sync attempted

I have a new Dell latitude 6410 laptop and when trying to sync IPAD to new computer as soon as sync starts running it crashes my laptop to the fatal blue screen.
How uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, selected to attempt only small file and app sync and still crashes after a few seconds. Apple blames OS, Dell blames Itune-Ipad. I am stuck in the middle very sad and frustrated.

I would uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime and then reinstall them. But reinstall Quicktime first separate from iTunes and than after Quicktime is installed install iTunes.

I have loaded this driver and added the newid=0x14e4 0x1713 but still
no luck. Still can not ping the Zenworks server or do anything. The
Network lights stay lit when it tries to obtain an IP address for eth0.
I read on another site that you need to update the initrd with the new
tg3.ko driver. I will try this later tonight and see what happens.

  • Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop for PPCC editing?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop for mobile editing when I travel.  My question is would it be sufficient to use for editing on PPCC?  It will have an Intel Core I5 processor and 8gb of RAM.

I've personally used a e6410 with Premiere Pro CS5 with 8GB of RAM and while it does "run" Premiere Pro, it is FAR away from what I would deem a good laptop for Premiere Pro. This model is years old and the newer models do several things that help with Adobe a lot: take more RAM (16GB is much better than 8GB for PPro), drives are faster (SSDs much more common, my e6410 had a 256GB SSD and not many did back when this model was born 4 yrs ago), and as Bill already pointed out much more cable 22nm die quad core CPUs with hyperthreading (so, 8 cores available to PPro for editing).
You do not mention your workflow, but obviously editing DV would be much more acceptable on marginal hardware than trying to edit AVCHD or GoPro 4k!
I would expect a used e6410 to be worth about $250 today (street price). I really don't know why you would buy one now really? You can buy a sub-$1000 Asus and with a few modifications put together a really good "new" laptop so that may be a better option for you today.

  • Deploying images on new iMac late 2012

Just in case you are Tech Director for a multimedia or computer lab in higher ed, here are some interesting tips for you!
The brand new iMac (late 2012) 21.5" base model will not boot from an external drive.
After many attempts, I found a work around. The attempts included starting with my original master image from the fall and updating from lion to mountain lion (10.8.2). Then imaging the new machine via target mode to an iMac 2011 running 10.8.2. The new computer will boot when you hold down option via the iMac 2011 but the new machine will not boot on its own... just the gery prohibited sign.
Another attempt was to erase the drive completely and reformat  the new machine and install 10.8.2 from our IT department which is the full version with all needed drivers. That resulted in the same boot to the grey prohibited sign. There is something going on here where the version of 10.8.2 shipped with the machine is not compatible with the full version of 10.8.2 that can be purchased as a volume license.
    Here is what worked!
I booted an iMac 2011 in target mode to  the new iMac.
Ran the Migration Assistant to transfer all software, user accounts and other files to the new machine... much faster than rebuilding the image from scratch.
Then I had to redo the User Template so that all users that log into the machine via active directory get them same user settings.
Tested a new user to ensure all was good.
Then I booted the new iMac in target mode to the iMac 2011 and created a new image through Disk Utility.
Copied this image to my laptop (MacBook Pro late 2008 running snow leopard).
I have successfully imaged 2 of the 6 new machines by booting the new machine in target mode to my laptop and using disk utility to restore to the master image. The other 4 will be imaged tomorrow.
If you have any stories, tips, etc please feel free to post!
Hopefully 10.8.3 will allow you to boot from an external drive. And hopefully Apple will consider higher ed costumers in the future who rely heavily on disk images and multiple copies of the same software without creating 50 Apple IDs!!!

I'm not surprised at all. Those iMacs were released AFTER 10.8.2, so the drivers needed to boot the machine don't exist in the public 10.8.2 code. This has always been the case - you can't boot a machine from a system version earlier than its release.
You'll be able to boot from an external drive only if you clone your machine-specific system to that second drive.

  • Dell Vostro 3500 laptop imaging

We are running ZCM10.3.1 on the server. We purchased several new Dell
vostro 3500 laptops with exact same hardware configuration. We created
an image off one of the laptops. Then test the image by pulling the
image down to a different laptop (exactly the same hardware
configuration Dell vostro 3500) and then got the error saying hardware
changed and cannot boot. We put a dell restoration disk to have the
laptop boot into the disk and did repair from the disk. The laptop boot
    up fine after the repair.
Can someone give me some idea what might be going on? I am clueless.
    Thanks a lot!

Can you try the same thing with the latest imaging (10.3.3 or 11). Ie do a
manual image same/restore with an imaging CD. Saves you having to update
    all of your backend.
If it works then, then we will know how to proceed.

  • Ibook crashed, bought new Dell PC, how can I get my music off my ipod?

My ibook recently crashed and I bought a new Dell PC with Windows Vista installed. When I plug my ipod in, a message comes up saying that I need to reformat my ipod for Windows but by doing this, all of my songs and videos will be deleted.
Any suggestions? Ideally, I want to reformat my ipod for Windows without losing any songs or videos.
    Dell E520

Unfortunately your new Windows PC cannot natively read the contents of your Mac formatted iPod.
This is because Windows cannot read the HFS+ file system that a Mac uses.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.
XPlay2 will also allow the transfer of music from iPod to computer.
Once you've done that, you can reformat the iPod by restoring it on your PC.

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

  • Just downloaded iTunes to new dell laptop, tried syncing my iPhone get an error message:  "this iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started".  What does this mean? I have had this phone for over a year..

Just downloaded iTunes to new dell laptop, tried syncing my iPhone get an error message:  "this iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started".  What is the issue, had this phone over a year??

I had this problem before. I like to disable extra services to speed up my computer and I disabled the Apple Mobile Device service and had to re-enable this.
You can do that by going Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Once you have gone to the services window, look for Apple Mobile Device and right-click. Select "Properties". There should be some information about the service as well as the label "Startup Type" with a drop-down menu beside it. If it says "disabled", that is your problem; Change the selection to anything except disabled (Automatic is easier and ensures that you can sync as soon as itunes opens).
If this doesn't work, I would look into your anti-virus' settings. Good Luck!
