New desktop pictures always tile

How do I get new pictures not to show up tiled on my desktop? There is no drop down menu that shows up when I select the picture. Also, lots of pictures aren't available for use at all, even though they are in the same folder as the ones I can use. I have tried converting them to jpeg, etc., to no avail. Help please!

After two replies telling me there should be a drop down menu when none were in the Desktop pane, I took a look at my husband's computer and sure enough, his had the menu! So I reinstalled Tiger and now the menu is available. Thank you for the inspiration!

Simply reset your desktop picture. It's not unusual for the plist that saves info gets corrupted and resets to the default setting.

    Hello, sounds like maybe this...
OS X: System Preferences stops responding after viewing Desktop & Screen Saver pane
    Products Affected
OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, iPhoto
    Symptoms
System Preferences may stop responding if you select an iPhoto Event that is no longer available in iPhoto as the source for your desktop picture.
    Resolution
        1.    Quit System Preferences if it's running.

If System Preferences is running but not responding, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or right-click its icon on the Dock and choose "Force Quit".
        2.    Open iPhoto.
        3.    Select Events in the Source list (on the left side of the iPhoto window).
        4.    Double-click on any of the events shown. Verify that the name or date of this event is now shown under RECENT in the Source list.
        5.    Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences.
        6.    Click Desktop & Screen Saver, click on Desktop, and verify that you can now select a new desktop picture.

  • Screensaver and desktop picture being overridden

    Hi,
Since new photos for mac was installed initially it installed a new desktop picture of its own accord. i have since saved my original one, however the screen saver was also overridden with a default 'national geographic' set of photos. i then changed back to an event from iPhoto. the next time the SS came on it used my pictures. the next time it had reverted to 'national geographic'. this keeps happening around in a circle.how do i stop these default photos becoming my screen saver?
both iPhoto and photos are in my dock. at this stage i plan on using iPhotos rather than the new photos.
    Thanks

the next time it had reverted to 'national geographic'. this keeps happening around in a circle.how do i stop these default photos becoming my screen saver?
Have you switched between iPhoto Libraries?
Every time you switch between iPhoto Libraries, the Media Browser will switch to a different iPhoto Library as well. Then you have to set the source event for the screensaver again in the System Preferences.

  • Hi, I recently got a newer desktop to replace my old laptop and I uploaded my pics with my picture keeper and I can find them in images BUT I can't find iPhoto. On all my other device sit always loads to iPhoto automatically! Help please!

HHi, I recently got a newer desktop to replace my older laptop and I upl my pics from my picture keeper and I see them in images but I can't find iPhoto! Help please.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?  A new iMac will have Yosemite. Confirm.
what system version are you running? Download iPhoto 6 from the App store.  Did you?
what do you mean by "picture keeper"?
have you looked in the Applications folder for an iPhoto application?
is your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder ?

You can check the home page setting:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • How do I move my pictures from iphoto on my mac book to iphoto on my new Desktop?

I am not sure what how to transfer all my pictures from iphoto on my old mac book to my new desktop computer. Any help would be appreicated.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Update framework always creates new desktop icon

I'm using the AIR update framework (ApplicationUpdaterUI),
and whenever the user updates the application, a new desktop icon
gets created (overwriting any existing desktop icon there). Is
there a way to suppress this behaviour, or can someone suggest a
    workaround?
    Here's the situation:
Our AIR app uses a separate bootstrapping application to
launch some services before the AIR application launches, so it's
important that the user does not run the AIR executable themselves.
Our installer creates a desktop icon that points to the
bootstrapping executable. When the user updates the application, it
replaces our desktop icon with the AIR shortcut.
    Thanks!

  • Company-wide Desktop Picture on Mavericks Clients

We're looking at rolling out Mavericks on our systems at work, and I have set up a test machine to make sure everything will work as expected. We have a Lion server that is using Workgroup Manager MCX (instead of Profile Manager, which will change) to distribute policies to all the workstations. All of them are working well except for the desktop picture.
Now, I understand that the setting for desktop picture in Mavericks is no longer in a plist, but in an sqlite database. Is there any way to set the desktop picture using the Workgroup or Profile Managers for a Mavericks client? I don't want to replace the default picture on Mavericks systems because we update the desktop picture regularly.
EDIT: I should add, I tried to write a login script to do it, but I couldn't get it to run. The script has this single line:
tell application "System Events" to set picture of every desktop to "/Volumes/Groups/Everyone/Wallpapers/Current.png"

Your script is a kludgy hack that won't prevent users from changing the Desktop for the entirety of their session .
The correct way to do this is with Managed Preferences for OSX also called 'MCX' as you have already seen.
There is a tweak that should still work on 10.9 to import all the Apple based 'managed preference keys'.
Get Workgroup Manager for the same OS as the server (you may need the server admin tools, it varies, search for both). It may need to be the 10.9 version on Mavericks.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#workgroup%20manager
Open WGM on a client, connect to the server (do not work in the local node!). Select the group or computer group you are managing & select the 'Preferences > Details tab'. Click the + button to add the following…
    /System/Library/CoreServices/ManagedClient.app
This will give you the power to manage a lot of extra keys, find the 'Desktop picture' in the list, double click it, decide how often to manage it (once = first login, often = at each login, always = what it says ).
Select 'Often' & create a New Key, click the new item & select the key to manage (in this case Background). It should autofill the other values (e.g. image path & the path to the current Desktop. Sometimes Always won't create the key correctly, so create it inside often & drag it down.
Once all that is saved login as a member of the managed group & it should pull down the desired MCX prefs (reboot).
Your Macs will need to bound to the server for this to work & I haven't tested on 10.9 (WGM doesn't want to apply these to the local node, which may indicate it isn't possible.
I'd strongly suggest you copy the desired image to the Macs in question to increase reliability, or host it in an auto mount that appears in /Networks.
    Good luck

  • Desktop picture disappears, won't return

Hi. When I plug my new MacBook into a projector (mini display to serial port convertor) and then unplug it, my desktop picture is replaced with the standard space one, and choosing my own again under Desktop/Screen Saver in Preferences makes no difference.
It's not crucial - but it is annoying. Any tips?
    Thanks
    Aidan

Click on the desktop and check Finder > View > Show view options.
Sort by.. snap to grid will have the files flying around..
Disappearing files in folders no idea except I have always been advised not too have too many items in the desktop folder.. (The desktop is actually a folder, see finder)
