New Desktop Software Version 7 Hangs at "Preparing sync preview"

PC Version, upgraded on prompt this morning, now get above message, so can't sync.
Uninstalled and tried to find Version 6.0 on site - clicked on prior versions, but only takes to new version.

This solution works perfectly for me too with BB curve 8250.    Will not be going anywhere near  Desktop 7 until RIM announces a fix.    I just wasted half a day of my life trying to recover from V7.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager hangs at "Preparing Sync Preview"

Is it possible to think that RIM wants us all to migrate to Mac or Android systems?, how can they put a new Desktop manager without testing it? I keep reading no one can sync with the new software,
    wow, we need urgent solutions
    thanks

My phone is now syncing again with Outlook. It involved 3 steps:
    1. Replacking Desktop 7 with 6.1
    2. Rebooting the device (the apps were disappearing and the Desktop could not identify the phone. I only discovered the solution because the battery went dead).
    3. When the calendar would not sync, creating a new .pst file in Outlook and mapping the calendar on the Desktop to it.
Croos my fingers, but it is working again.

  • My sync process hangs on "Preparing Sync Preview" and never finishes

After a recent desktop software update the sync does not function properly and hangs.  I've left it for up to 2 hours and it never finishes.  Anyone else have this problem and let me know how to fix it.

Okay, after reading some other online material, suspicion fell on the Blackberry Desktop Software 7.0 version. I uninstalled that version (keeping the data), then downloaded and installed version 6.1, and all is working correctly again.
The attempts to fix the 7.0 sync problems did some strange things to my device, and I fortunately had a backup from a day or two before to restore. When I tried to sync again with 7.0 after restoring, my home screen photo disappeared and a couple of other odd things happened. A hard battery pull and reboot cleared those.
I'm now able to sync with version 6.1 without any problems. However, I'm now unable to back up to the existing file because the software says I can't write to it! One thing at a time, I guess . . .

  • New Desktop software is a disaster

Wanted to do  a sync. Saw that new software was available, so downloaded Desktop 7.
It hung  five times and had to be restarted each time before I got the program to start syncing. Four of the hangs happened when I tired to do advanced configuration. The last hang was when I tired to start to sync. In that case no progress was reported  on the green progress bar (green motion never started).
On the next try the sync started, and it took nearly an hour to read in the Outlook and BB data. Now has been syncing for a total of two hours, and has reached "preparing Sync Preview". Since getting to this state,  PF Usage on my computer is near 100%;  CPU usage by Desktop is currently over 50%;  Windows announced it was having to increase the size of virtual memory.
    What a disaster!
Yes I have big files, 6800 contacts and 1500 calendar entries, but BB is supposed to be an enterprise quality product. I'm wondering if I should buy an Android phone or iPhone tomorrow.

Airplay is now on the control screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

  • New Desktop software problems

Hi, just (regrettably) downloaded the new desktop software v 6.something. I use a 9700 with v 5.something software.
I've been syncing (successfully) my outlook calendar with my phone. I've also created another calendar and sync my wife's diary separately (by changing the default calendar on my phone and changing the mapped folder on the desktop software. I do two separate downloads which don't interfere with each other and therefore have two diaries shown on my calendar on the phone, in two colours so I know which is mine and which is my wife's)
Since the new desktop software has downloaded, I can download my wife's diary as a separate diary, but when I download mine, it also tries to include hers. I've tried pretty much everything, rebooting, reloading software, ensuring the settings are correct etc. but no luck. The only thing I can think of is that although the "include subfolders" box is unticked, it is downloading subfolders too and therefore my wife's diary is being included. It's driving me mad as it worked before and now doesn't. I've tried also to restore the software point to a previous but that doesn't work either....aaaaaargh!!

you need to completely uninstall the 6.2 version of your palm desktop then reinstall the 4.2 version http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk42v.html
the 6.2 version doesnt have color coding feature...
    PMtraceDatabase is an ignorable message....

  • Connector specific error - blackberry bold 9790 - desktop software version 6.1 and outlook 2010

    Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010.  In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one.  In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
    Here's the basics:
    - Bberry model - Bold 9790
    - Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
    - Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
    - Outlook version 2010
    - Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files.  I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12.  We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck.  We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry.  Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cel

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!
Thank you for the thorough report...that helps tremendously. Sadly, though, none of the errors you listed reveal anything useful when I search the public KBs...perhaps you will be more lucky

Even though it sounds like you may have done all or part of this, I encourage you to research the process in this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.

  • Curve 8900 not connecting to Desktop Software version 6.0.0.40

I am not able to connect my Curve 8900 to the BlackBerry Desktop Software Version 6.0.0.40.  When I connect via USB it asks for the password  and then it says connecting in the bottom right corner - it never connects.  I also have the Blackberry Device Manager version 6.0.0.11 running at startup but it does say that the device is connected.  There are no errors in the device manager.  I am running Windows XP SP3.

No one else replied, but I seem to have solved the problem, more or less, so I thought I'd report back.  See previous message for the setup.
    1) First attack - make a concerted effort to truly undelete the 2 old versions of Desktop Manager.  The typical list of "how to cleanly uninstall" (link above) is incomplete.  This document is much better: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206 .
The part that matters is near the bottom, under Additional Information.  Basically, take a shovel to the Registry and start digging out absolutely every reference to "Research In Motion" using the Edit/Find.  I added to that recommendation a search on "BlackBerry" and even, for good measure, all the Roxio software (and removed the Roxio folders just like the Research In Motion folders).  I can't say which part did the trick, but I could see some of the Install and Uninstall list items go by.
This finally killed the zombie entries in the Add/Remove Programs list, and prevented the Windows Installer attempts on unfindable .msi files.
    2) Problems: In killing Roxio, I may have accidentally munged a Sonic registry entry.  When I installed the Desktop Manager fresh from the CD, it complained about a registry-style confusion with Sonic software.  It allowed me to continue past that point anyway.
I can't fix that, but I will be swapping in new PCs in a couple of months and can live with whatever reduced functionality might be involved.
When I started the Desktop Manager for the first time, I could see Windows Installer popups fly by in the background, but none of them stayed open, and perhaps that will be a one-time problem.  Otherwise, if related to the Sonic issue, at least it's not a functional problem that prevents me from using the Desktop Manager.
    3) I can now connect to the Desktop Manager via USB, but am unable to successfully update the device software.  It goes through the backup process apparently successfully, but issues an error message about "Fatal error" before installing much (any?) of the new software.  Seems to be a benigh error - phone still works.  Because this will be reinstalled on a clean PC in a couple of months, I can pass on upgrading the device software until then.
    4) All I care about is the ability to synch the contact and calendar data and, by god, that seems to be working!!!  And it's much faster than my older BB.
If you're reading this, it's because you have an ongoing nightmare...  You have my sympathy.

  • New Desktop Software is asking for password - which I don't think I ever had now can't use phone either

         After downloading the new Desktop Software, it won't allow my BB Curve 8520 to connect w/o a password -  I do not believe I ever had a password on my desktop software and it is threatening to delete my data if I don't enter correct password ;;;
also now I can't use my phone because the same message is coming up on my phone asking for a password - I did have a password on my phone but that password is not working for the desktop software and now I can't use the phone password on the phone - it is asking for some other password which I don't have -
is there some way to have the password sent to me - I don't want to loose the contacts and other data on my phone and the Desktop

    Hi,
Just make sure you are typing the right password when DM ask you for it. What I mean is that if your password include numbers you must type in the corresponding letter on your computer keybord...
    It's is a common mistake...
Now, is your phone asking you for your password or for a SIM card PIN? If you entered your password too many times as the phone was asking for a SIM card PIN it is probably asking for a PUK (sometime called a personal unlock key). Call your service provider tech support, they are the only one that would have your SIM card PUK to help you...
Until you reach them you can always remove your SIM card (assuming that's your problem...) to be able to use the phone (assuming you're in North America on a CDMA network...).
Hope this helped, have a good one!
    Gilles

  • Preparing Sync Preview

Blackberry .... What are you playing at... Stuck on this message and can't get past it. Most of my Calendar info has been deleted on my Bold 9700. Does matter what I do. Will not get past the message  "Preparing Sync Preview"
This is the last straw. Been an avid support of BB but you have made too many errors. I am moving the company away from BB. Take the advise of all the consultants. Sell RIM off!
Totally frustrated with you this time.

    Hello everyone,
We are aware of users reporting this issue of synchronizing with BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Please be patient as we are investigating the issue.
    Thank you.

  • BBLink getting stuck on "preparing sync preview" message

Help please! Out of the blue, my BB Link no longer works with my Q10. I connect the Q10 to my laptop via the laptop's USB port in the normal way. It starts to sync. Everything looks fine. But then I get a screen with a message that reads "Preparing sync preview". The progess bar takes a long time to complete and then BBLink freezes. Ultimately I get a message saying that the sync has been unsuccessful. I've obviously done something to mess things up -- everything was working up until yesterday fine -- but I can't think or discover what. All and any help would be most gratefully received.

I wish I could help you but I have the EXACT SAME issue.  If I had to describe it I'd use your words EXACTLY.  Can someone help us please?

  • Bold 9700 won't let me sync with Windows 7 computer using BlackBerry Desktop Software version 6

I just got a new computer with Windows 7.  I installed version 6 of BlackBerry Desktop Software.  It installed just fine.  When I connect my Bold 9700 to it the software recognizes the phone and has the list of model, PIN, and phone number.  It allows me to backup the device - but not sync it.
I went to configure my sync settings.  It goes to the screen for me to set the sync options for calendar, memo pad, etc.  I selected calendar.  It asks me which application I'm using and I select Microsoft Outlook (I'm using Outlook 2010).  I choose 2 way sync.  So, up to this point it's working correctly.  But, then when I hit "next" on this screen it gives me an error message - the operation terminated unexpectedly.  I have no clue what's going on.

I have the same problem and have tried one way sync's, deleting and re-entering the calendar entries made around the time the problem started. If it is a corrupted entry, I can't find it.
