New developer resource - Lightroom SDK Cookbook

Hi All,
You might have noticed that the overview for this forum has changed recently, and that two new links have been added:
Lightroom Developer Center
Lightroom Cookbook
The first you will no doubt be familiar with as it is the official location for obtaining the Lightroom SDK forum.  The second is a recent addition that I'd like to bring to your attention.
Adobe describes cookbooks as:
The Adobe Cookbooks and CSS Advisor community sites make finding and sharing code recipes as simple as possible. More than forums, wikis, or discussion groups, the cookbook and CSS Advisor sites make it easy for you to contribute content that benefits the entire community.
These sites are useful for contributing, finding or requesting information about the development platform being discussed.  The Lightroom SDK cookbook is the newest addition to that list.
As this is new it doesn't have a lot of content right now.  I've started the ball rolling by posting a recipe and would encourage you to consider adding your own tips ("recipes") for the benefit of the developer community.

I'm curious how you'd compare this to using StackOverflow instead? I know that the Lightroom tag there is not very active but for the sake of comparing functionality, isn't that a better way to accomplish the goal? Or do these solve different problems? I know that Adobe probably wants to drive traffic to their on fora but...
Interesting question.
I see Cookbooks and StackOverflow as complimentary.  Cookbooks are really for submitting proven solutions to coding problems Lightroom SDK users encounter.  They can also request new recipes to be provided if the one they are looking for doesn't exist.  So I think of Cookbooks/recipes more as articles than ongoing conversations.  The theory is that Cookbooks should build up over time to be an additional reference Lightroom SDK users will check when tackling problems.
StackOverflow seems to be more of an ongoing conversation.  There are some recipe like aspects but people don't seem to take the time to write up answers in an "article" type format and tend to focus on the specifics of the current user's issue.  So in a way it is more of a competitor for this forum than for the Cookbooks.  Personally I haven't been using StackOverflow for Lightroom SDK issues and all of my public discussions have been here.

After updating from CC to new 2014 updates Lightroom would not go from 'Library' to 'Develop' - develop screen was greyed out showing the message 'Develop module is disabled. Please renew your membership to reactivate the Develop module.' Since my membership is fully up to date. I then uninstalled Lightroom 5 and then installed it again. Now when I try to open Lightroom 5 its LOGO flashes onto the screen and then 'crashes' in an instant. Please fix.

  • Availability of new J2EE 1.4 SDK

I am pleased to announce availability of new J2EE 1.4 SDK. You can download this today from http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download.html
J2EE SDK now includes App Server Platform Edition 8.2 (SJSAS PE 8.2) delivering a rich application deployment environment that is highly available and scalable. It dramatically lowers total cost of ownership proven by the latest SPECjAppServer2004 benchmarks on Sun T2000 CoolThread Server ($86/JOPS for application tier running on SJSAS PE 8.2, Solaris 10, and MySQL5.) The new release greatly improves Web Services performance by a factor of 2 to 4 through the inclusion of FastInfoset and support for latest technologies such as AJAX clients and Java database, based on the Apache Derby to decrease the development cycle time of Web 2.0 interactive applications and maximize developer productivity.
The Sun Java System Application Server PE 8.2 is fully integrated with NetBeans 5 by providing an out of the box environment for development, deployment and debugging of Web and enterprise applications and extends its advocacy for open source by supporting RedHat Linux 4, MySQL 5 and Apache Derby.
Below are highlights of Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2
    * J2EE 1.4 compatible
    * Outstanding developer experience with NetBeans 5 and improved deployment speed, runtime footprint and server start up time. NetBeans 5.0 includes App Server 8.2 as a default J2EE runtime.
    * Superior throughput performance and better scalability supporting multi core/ multi threaded architecture.
    * Fast Infoset support improves webservices performance multiple folds.
    * App Server 8.2 bundles deployment ready Derby database making it possible to develop and deploy end to end J2EE application.
    * App Server 8.2 adds support for Red Hat 4 and My SQL 5.
    * In built JMS resource adapter makes connectivity with backend systems even more easier. Application Server 8.2 adds out of box connectivity for IBM MQ Series and Sun's MQ Server.
    * Enhanced J2EE 1.4 blueprints including demonstration of using Web 2.0 technologies like AJAX with App Server 8.2
    * JavaServer Faces Support: Developers can quickly build web applications by: assembling reusable UI components in a page; connecting these components to a data source; and wiring client-generated events to server-side event handlers.
    * Improved Administration Console:
App Server 8.x admin console adds new look and feel with capabilities like JNDI namespace browser, JDBC Connection Validation, Deployment Descriptor Viewer, Error log viewer and improved monitoring.
    * Web Services Security: Container message security mechanisms implementing message-level authentication (e.g. XML digital signature and encryption) of SOAP web services invocations using the X509 and username/password profiles of the OASIS WS-Security standard.
    * JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library 1.1 Support: the library encapsulates core functionality common to many JSP applications.
    * Bundled J2SE 5.0_06
Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition is free for development and deployment. Sun support is offered at an additional cost.

I couldn't get SAS8 to install using JRE 5. I have, however, succeeded in getting an application client to run with the latest JDK. If the client and server JRE differ, you've got to assign a serialVersionUID to any custom classes that will be passed back and forth.

  • Samsung saying we are required to submit app that was developed using Samsung SDK after July1, 2014 - End of Air for Samsung?

I just got an email from Samsungs Seller office saying:
    1. When submitting new app in Seller Office, you are required to submit app that was developed using Samsung SDK.
Samsung SDKs are the tools that help sellers to make apps using Samsung device-specialized functions such as S Pen, Finger Print, Gesture, Motion and more. Please visit SAMSUNG DEVELOPERS (http://developer.samsung.com/) to download Samsung SDKs and obtain additional information.
In case of existing apps registered in Seller Office, the apps can be updated without using Samsung SDK.
    2. Samsung Seller membership will be terminated for those who registered before February 20, 2014 (GMT +09:00), but have not submitted any apps to Samsung Apps Seller Office. (Membership termination date : June 30, 201
Does this mean we can no longer submit AIR based apps???

For what it’s worth, we have submitted three apps to Samsung, and the combined total of the three for the last month is about half of the downloads for just the worst of the three in iTunes. So, no great loss to not submit to Samsung.
It will affect friends of mine though, who are doing apps in conjunction with Samsung themselves. I imagine they will need to continue to submit to the Samsung store!

  • What do you expect from new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 ?

I expect some new futures and more possibilities to set some tools
Better work with hw resources  (multi-core processors AMD and Intel)
But the most  I expect simple reinstallation  (Win OS + Lightroom)  with possibility to easy backup all settings...    something like Apple Aperture

  • New develop engine

I just have to insert this thought into the discourse: The new develop module in Lightroom 4 is the best I have ever seen. My work flow always includes Photoshop, and I haven't processed an image without the round trip, developing in Lr, tweaking in Ps, and coming back to Lr to print. Lately I have beenalmost satisfied in Lr alone. Even my standard sharpening routine seems almost irrelevant.
    Great work Lightroom team!

I'm pretty enamored by it too .
Although I don't always like everything about it...

I find it fascinating sometimes how a picture can look sharper, even though "technically" it's not - just "clearer" and more detailed...

    Sim,
I believe there is no specific document/guide for each module. To create and modify web-based pages in Oracle Apps you need to use JDeveloper.
Note: 416708.1 - How to find the correct version of JDeveloper to use with eBusiness Suite 11i or Release 12.x
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=416708.1

You can also refer to the implementation document/guide of each module (iProcurement, iStore, ..etc) for the customization steps you need to follow (also, see Oracle Application Framework Personalization Guide).

I beg to differ. Please download the file yourself. When you unzip/tar, all that you see are WinNT files and no .a's or binaries that would run on sun. Once again, here are the links

  • New Development and CA

We are in process of developing new eCommerce application on ATG. We also have a business requirement to manage images and products using BCC. Most of the business requirements in phase 1 of the project is to configure and deploy application code along with CA ( BCC / Merchandising). My question is whether it is advisable to do new application development along with CA configuration at the same time. What does ATG best practice say in this regard. My opinion is that we should do new application development (deliver new functionality) first to be followed by CA initiative. I have never directly worked on CA projects but I have been part of large teams with multiple initiatives where CA being one of the initiative and I have seen there are quite a few steps that one need to follow in configuring and deploying CA / BCC e.g. versioning of modules, modifying DB schema to support versioning etc. I don't want to run into issues where our main focus is to deliver new functionality and want to avoid the complexity of doing both new development and CA at the same time.
    Edited by: 899085 on Nov 24, 2011 12:01 PM

The best practice recommendation would be to include any BCC/CA implementation as early as possible in your project plan. Understanding the process of how the business users will be using the tools and what impact any customizations to the ATG code your applications make are very important in a successful rollout of a site usign the BCC and Merchandizing. We tend to see that the projects which attempt to implement BCC/CA at the last minute are the ones that encounter the most problems. Projects which include the BCC and CA in the early stages of the applciation design, project planning, and UAT and load testing go through a much smoother test cycle and launch.

  • New development forums

I discovered that there's a whole new section I have never seen in the cisco forums that specifically targets developers:
    http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/CDN?page=main
Amongst other things, there are separate forums for various APIs and a forum about IP Phone services.
So I'm wondering if anybody working at Cisco would care to comment as to what the idea is with having multiple forums for the same purpose. Are we supposed to migrate to the new developer area and will posts be moved at some date and this forum closed, or what will happen with it?

That is a news to me. Thanks for sharing. I hope Cisco can merge these forums so we have only one place to search.

  • New Development system copy from Production

    Hi All,
Hope you can help me out here with some ideas.
We are currently planning to implement a new SAP BW Development system, and for this we would like to make it a 1:1 copy of our current production system. Meaning all from customizing, ABAP, workbench objects etc.
But what we do not want is all the transaction and master data in infoobject, cubes etc., we are only interested in the structure and objects. Therefore we can rule out "System copy".
My question is then, is there any other ways to do this when system copy is a no go? I know we can do client copy but then we will not get all the workbench / ABAP programs which we need.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thx. in Advance

    Hi Rasmus,
But what we do not want is all the transaction and master data in infoobject, cubes etc., we are only interested in the structure and objects. Therefore we can rule out "System copy".
Options 1: As BI objects are cross client , copying client will not solve your purpose 100%.
You can perform system copy and then clean up data in DEV
Option 2: You can create a new Development and then create TRs for required configuration objects and move to new development system.
Option 3: Use SLO tools to perform container copy without any data.
    Hope this helps.

    Deepak Kori

  • New Development - No Infrastructure!

We have moved into a new development and did have an engineer visit scheduled for yesterday to install our new line. The appointment was between 1-6pm, I called at 3pm and was told he was coming, I then call again at 5.15pm and was told the engineer wouldn't be coming. The reason was that additional work needed to be done at the exchange.
I then went with the building site manager and we inspected the BT ducting that surrounds my property. To my surprise there was absolutely no BT infrastructure at all in any of the ducts...no wonder the engineer couldn't install our line!
Today I have spent over 2 hours trying to speak to someone, 6 calls, 2 supervisors and got absolutely nowhere! All the call agents were hard to understand due to their very strong Indian accent. I've now had to open a complaint both over the phone and just now online.
I've believe that the 'New Building Site Development Team' needed to visit the site to install the core infrastructure. I've tried to make contact with them and failed, I've tried to escalate the issue and failed, I've tried to speak to someone senior enough to understand my problem....once again I've failed.
I'm literally lost for words at the customer service, not to mention angry for wasting a days holiday and even more upset that we will now have to spend over £400 a month on child care as we can't work from home.
If anyone can help me I'd be really grateful.

Just to clarify, this is not the builders responsibility.
The house itself has been cabled with the normal house points and cabling with a terminating "white" cable poking out the front of the house, all ready for the engineer to connect to. The onsite ducting and BT Manholes have all been installed, either by a contractor of Openreach or Bovis (if they are an approved installer). The only people who are allowed to install cabling within a BT duct is BT or a part of BT like Openreach, unless you seek Wayleave permission. I know this as I project manage 'dark fibre' installations across private estates.
Bovis themselves completed their work and gave BT permission to install infrastructure over 2 months ago. I confirmed this with both the site manager and Bovis headoffice.
After all my calls yesterday, I decided to phone BT Business as I know they are UK based, the person I spoke to was more useful and did give me the number for the 'New Estates Team' (0800 616866) - however when I called them I was told they can't deal with end users and I need to speak to my ISP...which is interesting as that's BT who I've so far spent 5 hours trying to communicate with.
I then tried to call Openreach but once again they won't speak to end users...
    So the current position is;
    1) I have no phone line
    2) The estate has no BT infrastrucutre
    3) I have complained via Twitter (36hrs response time) and the normal complaint channel (72hrs reponse time)
    4) 5 Hours worth of calls (at a cost to me)
    5) 1 days holiday taken for no reason
    6) The additional cost of childcare (approx £150 a week)
    7) Having to work in the office until midnight most evenings
    8) I had to spend another 45mins talking to the accounts team, as they'd tried to take directdebit for the service!
The average time to actually get to speak to an 'agent' is 12mins, then 4-5mins to verify details, then 3mins for them to read the screen, then 3mins of them mumbling in an extrememly hard to hear accent. Eventually you explain the situation again, they pause, carry on with their script, you ask to speak to a supervisor...they also can't help.
There is without a doubt a problem in the process for getting a new estate setup, I really hope that somehow, via some method I manage to speak to someone who can help!

  • FTP error-Unable to create new pooled resource: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ft

    Hi,
We have a scenario where XI receives a Idoc and based on the contents of Idoc, It will generate 5 different files and send it to the external FTP server. We configured 5 receiver channels for these 5 files.
When this interface runs, most of the files will be delivered but some of the messages will be errored out.
The receiver channel has shown the following error-
Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx
I tried to resend them by temperorily stopping other channels to reduce connections to this FTP server. But these messages again resulted with same error.
Can someone suggest what might be the cause for this error.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ,
As I am not sure about the problem so U just try all of the option I am writing below. It may help u as these are the probable solutions for this problem.
1.perform Full CPA cache refresh using PIDIRUSER
2.The problem seems to be in establishing the connection with the File server . This could be due to
    a. Wrong user name or password in receiver adapter .
    b. Firewall connection are not open
actually you are saying that some files are being delivered so all the file has to be deliverd on same server on diffrent directory or all files are going on diffrent server at present I am assuming that all files are going on diffrent server so please check UID & PWD properly.if they are on same server but diff. directory it can be easily done using one Communication channel only.
    3. Finally please check the errorneous communication channel .
to check your communication channels are working fine or not you can check in channel monitoring in PI7.0, adapter monitoring in Xi3.0.
if you are on PI7.0, goto RWBCache monitoring select AE and cilck disply-select the date todays--check everything is greent here
4.Please check your maximal connection pool .
