New Display For My G4?  New Card?

I want to get a new flat panel display, but I think I read somewhere that it needs a new video card to work.
so...
Which video card do I need, and what else will I have to do to this monster to use a new display?
my current video card is the ATI Radeon that came with it.

This should do the job, if you have further questions call ATI tech support, for a true answer.

  • Please tell me i'm wrong that i can't get a new display for my MacPro...

Am i reading all of this correctly? there is no way to use the only available displays with my 3 year old MacPro tower? what's going on with the constantly changing connection devices... i just need to know what adapter to buy so i can get a new display for my older box, but i'm having trouble deciphering the lingo... and reading about problems with lines through the images.. any one have any suggestions for an old guy? thanks in advance!

You need a dual-link DVI port for the 30-inch display and a Mini DisplayPort for the 24-inch LED display. The original Mac Pro includes the dual-link DVI port; use this component with the LED display.

  • Are the new displays for MacBooks only - Options for a Mac Pro User?

I am currently running 23 inch displays in our small design studio (4 workstations). I need a new or a second display for my own Mac Pro. I hate the new 24 inch display. I cannot imagine running Final Cut Studio on this glossy screen. So is anyone else out there in this situation? Looking for other choices? I want to stay in the Apple line up if possible but now I am even looking at Dells, as I feel Apple will only continue with the glossy screens.
Are any pro-users in video or photography using the new 24 inch displays? and I mean users who do this for a living. Thanks everyone?

    Hello!
Sorry it took a while to notice your post. There are two options for your mac pro to use the new 24 inch cinema display. The ATI Radeon 4870 HD has the mini-display port on it, and the Nvidia GT120 also is an option. Personally, I'd go with the 4870 as its a much better graphics card.
You can find them on the Apple store's site under DISPLAYS/Graphics
    Hope this helps.
Now, just to clear something up. If you have a 2008 mac pro, you can run the GT120 if you prefer.

  • Can I use my iMac as a display for a G5 - New Mac User

I am still a fairly new iMac user, I would like to know if I can use my exsisting iMac with someones elses G5, and use my iMac as a screen display for his G5. Im sorry if this topic does not belong in this forum, I did try searching thru other forums to post and read up on this info.
Please direct me to the right place, or answer my question. Thanks in advance.

Here's the scoop, if you want to use any iMac as an external display for a G5 Mac you have these options.
    1. Target Disk Mode, only available on iMacs with Firewire:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58207
This only gives you access to the data files of that Mac and basically treats it as an external hard disk.
    2. Networking via ethernet, wireless, or Firewire, you can setup Virtual Network Computing or Remote Desktop:
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=VNC&os=macosx
    http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?os=macosx&keywords=remote+desktop
    3. As others have suggested, somehow to remove the VGA cable from the logicboard of the iMac and connect it to the Mac externally.
The external VGA port of iMacs only display what is on the Mac itself and as far I know can't be used in a reverse signal application.

  • Where can i buy a new display for my iPhone 4?

My display (juste the lens) has broke. It can be fixed? Where can i buy a new one? Anyone knows if the white display fits on the black iPhone 4?
    Tks from Brazil

The iPhone's warranty doesn't cover accidental damage, but you can search the web for another company that can repair the iPhone.
    WTH.

  • New display for powerbook

    hi
I have a 867mhz powerbook g4, the 12inch model, and am looking to buy an external monitor as I need more room for the work I'm now doing. I was wondering if anyone knows whether I can connect one of the new 20" cinema displays to the powerbook. I'm not sure if the machine has the correct ports or even if there is enough video memory to use an external display.
any help would be greatly appreciated
    many thanks

I'm not sure how screen sharing works, but that sounds like there is a possibility of it doing at least partly what I want.
screen sharing works wirelessly or hard wired.
If compatibility is such a problem,
that goes mostly for software. you can exchange any kind of files but i'd go easy on bringing apps from the PPC to the Intel platform. see _*A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs*_.
could I use the g4 powerbook purely as a wireless access to the mini - so it uses the intel processor and disc and the g4 just really is like a remote dumb terminal?
basically yes - but you may experience "delayed action" coz all your keyboard and mouse inputs are send via the network.
alternatively, a combination of bluetooth keyboard (paired with the mini) and ScreenRecycler might work for you.
Or does it have to be physically connected to the mac mini?
    no.
    best of luck !

    Hi there!
So you got a dual core machine huh?
    Let's narrow down your choices.
The Radeon 2600 and the 3870 are Mac Pro cards. They won't work in the G5.
    Forget the X1300 as well.
The Radeon X1900 is a possible candidate, but it must be the G5 Edition X1900 GT. The one that you linked is for Intel macs (Mac Pro).
In fact, all cards that you linked are not candidates for the G5.
Here are your choices from slower to faster:
    Geforce 6600 256MB
    Geforce 7800GT
    Radeon X1900GT G5 Edition
    Quadro FX 4500
    Geforce 7800 GTX
    Check performance comparisons:

    Here are some links:

  • Seeking new display for B/W Power Mac

I have an older 20 inch Sony CRT connected to my B/W Power Mac. The CRT has finally met its day and I am seeking a replacement. I am looking at a flat panel, 19 or 20 inch where I can connect it to my existing graphics card. Any recommendations?

I hate to rain on your parade, but that adapter is for extracting VGA from a computer that produces DVI AND uses the bar and the four pins around it at the end of the connector. It works because the bar and the four pins, if provided and connected internally, provide EXACTLY VGA when combined with one other pin used in both DVI and VGA.
The stock card on the Blue & White G3 provides a "standard" three row 15-pin VGA, and that is what you should search for in an inexpensive display solution. If you are willing to spend an additional US$100 or more, you can get a PCI-slot display card with a DVI connector on it.
Cards that feature an ADC port to run some of the fancy Apple displays also require a computer that provide the required 28 Volt power in the Accelerated Graphics Port AGP slot. Your Blue & White does not have such a slot and cannot provide that power.

  • Nice new display for the email!

Thank you Verizon for providing this nice update!  It's definitely sleeker looking and very convenient , listing all 7 of  my options like email and billing and so forth in the lefthand margin while still showing my list of emails upfront.

This "new" look may seem "nice" but the application being used in the back round has allowed the contacts list to be "hacked".
This "new " format has caused nothing but problems ... for the sake of a new look???? What nonsense. I have been using e-mail service from GTE and then Verizon since it's inception..and NEVER had the email hacked. Had my computer compromised...but never the email at the verizon server....or frame relay service...this just means some young executive has convince marketing that the new look will sell....NEVER THINGING CAREFULLY THAT THE APPS BEING USED WERE OPEN TO SECURITY BREACH. I hope enough of the users will call and complain... so that this security isssue is resolved.

  • Ipad 2 or new computer for Garageband?  new home studio - Help

Any advice would be great.  I built a home studio loft in an old barn in my yard.  Problem is my main computer (imac) that I do all my work on has to stay in the house (we all use it - family)  SO .. I have to decide what to record on in the studio.  I have an ipad 2 ..  do I by the interface for it?  Use it to recoed, and then trasfer the garageband files /recordings from the ipad to my imac in the house ... and do my editing there?   Or do I look for a 3 year old macbook or some type of used Apple computer for the studio?
PS .. my set up curently is
imac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Garageband 09 ver. 5.1
    TASCAM US-144 usb audio interface
    MXL V63M - MIC
Then obviosly all my live instuments including a Roland TD4 drum kit (that is not easy to mix once recorded - kick drum)
My studio monitors or SAMSON USB Studio dock ... and they are not great
Any advice/coments on the equipment would be great too ..  thanks eveyone

if you already have it, try it and see how the workflow is.
the caution is that this too is a one way street: the new version of GB on the iMac will open the older files, but once you save them you won't be able to open the newly saved files on the old machnie in the old version of GB
