  • N80 new firmware release date and wishlist

    It has been no update on firmware since the latest release V.5.0719.0.2 for N80 since 24 May 2007. With so many models rolling out and firmware revision released for other new and old models, one might wonder if N80 is being forgotten and the firmware revision is put on-hold forever in cold storage?!
    There has been so much discussion on the expectation for last firmware release but what we get is only product stability without signficant boost of functionality and performance. I believe this has made many proud owner of N80 phone waiting with a long neck.
    After reading through the forum, I have summarised some of the common expectation on the next release (hopefully) in a wishlist below. All is welcome to provide input on the improvement they expect in next firmware release. It is also hope that any status of firmware upgrade for N80 news to be shared here.
    The N80 new firmware wishlist
    i) AD2P bluetooth profile support
    ii) Nokia Maps application support (currently, N80 is not support model for Nokia Maps application)
    iii)Enhanced digital music player (similar with N73 ME with album art browsing)
    iv) Music file IDD tag editing (change artist, song title, genre information)
    v) Video ringtone
    vi) Skype VOIP support
    vii)Mymobilesite.net intergration for seamless moblogging interface
    viii)Auto birthday reminder storing from Contact entry
    Thats all I can think of for now.

    Hi Jacob,
    Thanks for your quick response but if you go to the download section of Nokia Maps, N80 is not listed for selection on Nokia Maps setup file download. It is obvious that the compability page does show N80 is supported but which setup version to choose? I myself have Nokia Maps installed previously. But I believe there are new feature and interface in the latest version of Nokia Maps.
    Yes, mymobilesite.net is available for N80, but perhaps the new firmware can include it in the new firmware release to save other the hassle to install
    something to add:
    ix) HSDPA mobile internet surfing speed (3.5G?)

    Why Apple don't systematically support the latest version of OpenGL and OpenCL with a new OS release?

    Maybe because it's necessary to build on a version that's been out long enough to be stable before releasing? Who knows?
    Are there specific features you're missing?

  • ANN: New XDK release for 9.0.2B and 9.0.1.1.0A available

    New XDK Releases for 9.0.2B Beta Version and 9.0.1.1.0A Procudtion Version are online at:
    http://technet.oracle.com/tech/xml/xdkhome.html
    What's new:
    - Oracle9i XDK for C and C++ released on Linux
    - Oracle TransX Utility Aids loading data and text.These release is part of the XDK for Java 9.0.2 Beta.
    - Oracle SOAP APIs added to the XDK for Java
    Support for the SOAP services have been added to the XDK for Java 9.0.1.1.0A Production.
    - XML Schema Processor for Java supports both LAX Mode and STRICT Mode Validation
    The XML Schema Processor for Java now supports both LAX Mode and STRICT
    Mode Validation. Compared with STRICT Mode where every element from the root on down is required to be defined and validated, LAX Mode Schema validation provides developers the ability to limit the XML Schema
    validation to the subsections of the XML document.
    This will simplify XML Schema definitions and the validation process by skipping the ignorable content. Furthermore, with LAX mode, developers can divide their XML documents into small fragments and carry out the XML Schema validation in a parallel or progressive way. This results, in a much more flexible and productive schema validation process.
    - SAX2 Extension support in the Java XML Parser
    The XML Parser for Java now supports two new handlers - LexicalHandler and DeclHandler.
    XML documents now can be parsed through Oracle XML Parser SAX APIs with full access
    to the DTD declarations and the lexical items like comments and CDATA sections.
    This ensures that the complete content model is preserved.
    - JAXP 1.1 supports is now added to the XDK for Java
    - New Differ Bean in the XDK for JavaBeans
    A new bean has been added the the JavaBean XDK which analyses the differences between to XML documents and outputs the XSL sytlesheet that will convert one into the
    other. This is extremely useful when converting an XML document retrieved from a SQL query into an xHTML page on the web.
    Stylesheets can now be automaticly created for use in XSQL pages.
    - XML Compression now supported in the Java XML Parser
    Now developers can take advantage of a compressed XML stream when serializing their DOM and SAX outputs. This new functionality significantly reduces the size without losing any information. Both DOM and SAX compressed streams are fully compatible and the SAX stream can be used to generate a
    corresponding DOM tree. These compressed streams can also be stored in Oracle as a CLOB for efficient storage and retrieval.

  • New patch releases: JE 5.0.48 and 4.1.20

    All,
    Please note that new patch releases for JE 5.0 and 4.1 are now available.
    The JE 5.0.48 update contains a number of critical bug fixes that can cause corruption (data loss) under certain circumstances. We strongly recommend that anyone using JE 5 upgrade immediately to 5.0.48. This update also contains fixes for issues that prevent upgrading to JE 5 from an earlier release, or cause problems after upgrading.
    Note that running the pre-upgrade utility is mandatory before upgrading to JE 5 from an earlier release, and the pre-upgrade utility must be run using JE 4.0.20. The JE 4.0.20 update contains fixes to the pre-upgrade utility as well as one critical bug fix. See the first section in the JE 5.0.48 change log for detailed information on upgrading and running the pre-upgrade utility.
    We'd like to thank all the users who reported problems and especially those who worked with us over email, in some cases for long periods of time, to diagnose problems and test fixes. Some, but not all, of those who helped are mentioned in the change log. Thank you for contributing to the reliability of the product!
    Complete information can be found in the JE documentation. The release is available via the download site or Maven.

    Hi,
    the biggest problem is that we are using bought application not made in our company. I have tried out this java application with JRE 1.4 and 1.5 and it just doesn't work. So the only solution is using JRE 1.3 on all intranet computers. This application uses digital certificate so why doesn't Sun allow digital signet java programs to run on older versions of JRE?
    There could also be one more solution. I exactly know md5sum (or sha1sum) of 3 JAR files used by applet needing JRE 1.3. So if this sum would be enabled manualy (or I could send batch file to make this in registry or any other storage this would be good).

  • Extending a network and the new guest access feature

    Hi-
    Currently, I have 3 of the 802.11n Airport Extremes—One creating the network, and two extending the network.
    I would like to get the new feature that allows you to setup guest access---
    My question: Will I be able to purchase ONE of the new Airports, setup guest access and extend it using the older Airports, or will I have to buy three of the new Airports to make this work….
    Thanks for any help or advice!

    It would seem almost certain that the older AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) would not extend both the normal network and the guest access network. You should be able to extend the normal network.

    Why did you include USB models in your post about new driver releases? Are they somewhere else?
    Hmm... maybe you didn't look close enogh behind the link given for drivers for USB models in my post ... though, those are not new final drivers but as the previous USB driver expired 17 or 18 January, E-MU refreshed them 18 January. Also, I have not informed anything 'bout new drivers for USB but only new driver releases as the subject says.

  • Verizon just needs to admit the issue with the new Android release and work to resolve things

    The carrier owes it to their customers to test new os releases for phones they support.  So whether this is Android or Samsung (I have an S5 Galaxy), who might be more at fault for this horrible release, it is the carrier that all blame must fall back to.  This has to be a Verizon issue to work and quickly resolve.  I have never been on any of these forums due mainly to no need.  My galaxy was awesome and Verizon was solid.  This OS update has changet all that.  Since the update here are my issues that have been happening.  (I am sure I will discover more issues as people on these forums are pointing out.)
    Phone reboots on its own 4 to 6 times per day.
    Phone gets real hot for no reason.
    Battery life is half what it used to be.
    Charging time is much longer.
    A number of apps that never had issues now keep failing.
    Phone never used to lock up but now has been locking up a number of times and sometimes requires a reboot.
    Music apps that never had a problem now just stop playing for no reason.
    Phone seems to bog down quickly.
    All in all, this phone Android update has been one of the worst phone experiences so far.  I am not sure how Verizon can avoid taking steps to fix this and publicly acknowledge there are problems.

    Agree. Overnight my phone update locked up. Luckily I woke up and noticed it and was able to spend the time to restart the puone..then the phone was too hot and had to 'cool' then at some point it locked up again and I ended up waking 15 mins after my 1st alarm and 15 mins before my 2nd one....never went off because phone locked up. Would have made everyone late to school and work. Today my phone is running all kinds of apps I never started (in the background) and battery has drained faster than ever before. I am really frustrated that the only help I get is to disable these apps or reset the update through my computer. Since others are having similar issues, I'm convinced the problem is once again with the update. Thanks, samsung and Verizon for making us upgrade and them ruining our experience!

  • A perfect combination for a potential new distro

    Hello everyone. I was an Arch user for more than six months this year until I decided to switch to Ubuntu Dapper. What drove me away doesn't have much to do with any Arch "problems". The issues I've had with it are not Arch problems, it's the Arch Way. I simply grew tired of having to configure and do everything by hand, even certain things I consider routine such as printing, mounting CDs, setting up permissions for normal user to be able to burn CDs etc.
    After switching to Ubuntu where everything pretty much just works I've been quite impressed. However, I knew all along that Ubuntu isn't as fast as Arch, and I frankly missed some of the simplicity of the underlying system. Sometimes it really is easier to do something on the command line (not everything mind you, and preferences will differ from person to person on this).
    And right now I am kind of sitting on the fence between these two worlds. We have Ubuntu, a distribution with a good looking easy to use "surface" and Arch which essentially does not have surface, but rather a simple, clean and fast system everyone can see. Below the surface of Ubuntu there is no such simplicity and cleanness and some of its complexity is what slows it down.
    So here's the idea. What about uniting the two concepts into one? What about creating a distribution which is based on Arch (and hence features its underlying system cleaness and simplicity), but which also has the user friendly surface like Ubuntu. GUIs would not work in a way that would require creating complexity. Instead of creating gazillion of some weird scripts just to support the GUI, the GUI would be created as a direct bolt-on front end to configuration files in a way that this front end would act as a configuration file specific editor. I wrote a bit more on that in this topic.
    In short, it would be combining of the two seemingly contradictory concepts into one. User friendly GUIs, preconfigured/automated routine tasks and clean/fast/simple underlying system (which Arch readily offers).
    Ubuntu experience based on Arch and boosted by Arch.
    What do you think?
    Btw, I am not currently in a situation of starting a new distro because of my internet connection (very expensive and not so fast upload), but I'm thinking about playing with the idea locally until I can get better broadband and possibly, who knows, start the project. IF anyone else doesn't start with this before that.
    This is meant just for discussing the idea and see where we come up.
    Thanks
    Danijel

    I've tried Underground and Frugalware so far and here are my opinions.
    Underground installation process seems even harder and less intuitive than the nongui Arch install. No offense to the good guys working on the project, but without a bit of honest and constructive criticism there's no improvement. The current installer is just a bunch of rather dumb dialog boxes. When it is copying files it doesn't even have a progress bar so you have no idea when it's going to be finished.
    To top it all, I was unlucky enough not to be able to even boot into the newly installed system, and that pretty much blows Underground out of my picture, for now. I have good things to say about the livecd though which looks awesome.
    As for Frugalware, it seems overall well rounded. Install is pretty cool except that actual installing files takes way too long. Not sure if I'd blame frugalware or their version of pacman for that. But anyway, after it installs, you can boot nicely and stuff pretty much works good. I still have to setxkbmap to croatian layout in X though and my satellite dsl proxy wont work for some reason (might be me missing something though). Overall Frugalware comes pretty close to my ideal. However it's FPM GUI pacman frontend currently used isn't working out too well, though I hear they're gonna replace it with something else in the next release, so we'll see what happens with that.
    All things considered I've decided to start building from Arch again. I am downloading base Arch install and will build my system from it again, but I'll try to set up automations on my own (like those CD automounting) and install any available GUIs for all tasks I feel should be automated. Then I will have to learn how to do a custom livecd and make one out of this install.
    Maybe that will lead to yet another friendly repackaging of Arch (like Underground and Iarch) that I might be distributing as a project at some point.
    Thanks for all the feedback!

  • I like the new rapid release, but I don't like how it's done.

    Hello Firefox users.
    I have a suggestion for your rapid release program. Ever since Firefox 2, I have been a loyal fan. Each update had a meaning and a purpose.
    Ever since Firefox 5, each update makes slight improvements to technologies that aren't even used by the majority of the web. I'm not criticizing the updates you give, but instead how they are delivered.
    Since Firefox 5, every 6~ weeks, a new firefox is released with a new version number. They offer little new.
    My suggestion is to stop increasing the main version number.
    When you go to your Firefox version, it says Firefox 7.0.1. At the this rate, the second digit of the firefox version will likely NEVER be used. How can they give a decent update in less than 6 weeks? That wont happen, they will include it in the next release.
    Instead I propose a slightly revised plan. Instead of increasing the main version number, increase the second version number.
    For example;
    Firefox 8 is coming out very soon, instead of releasing it as Firefox 8, instead release it as 7.1. Firefox 9 can be released as 7.2. Firefox 10 can be released as 7.3, and etc.
    Based on the old plan (before rapid release) a MAJOR update would be released very rarely. Example:
    Firefox 2.0 released October 24th, 2006
    Firefox 3.0 released June 17, 2008
    That's about '''1 3/4 years later'''! In that same time span, Firefox will have increased 15 version numbers! That means '''we will be at version 22 in 1 3/4 years'''!
    I am in no way suggesting reverting. The new rapid release helps get new technologies out there.
    Here is my plan:
    * Firefox 7.1 (8) Week #6
    * Firefox 7.2 (9) Week #12
    * Firefox 7.3 (10) Week #18
    * Firefox 7.4 (11) Week #24
    * Firefox 7.5 (12) Week #30
    * Firefox 7.6 (13) Week #36
    * Firefox 7.7 (14) Week #42
    * Firefox 7.8 (15) Week #48
    * '''Firefox 8.0 (16) Week #54'''
    The six week plan with incremental updates will give us Version 8 on Week 54, almost one year after Version 7. This will allow for technologies to be released without undermining the huge progress that was made from version Firefox 1.0 - 4.0.
    This will stop the large amount of complaints that Firefox has been receiving.
    The rapid release that Chrome uses works well because they started with it, and they are used to it.
    I hope Firefox will consider this plan instead of the old one. I cannot see any flaws in it, but if you can, '''please''' point them out, as I would like to either rebuttal them, or agree with them.

    They do, just may not seem to be as obvious or as big as the the Firefox 4.0 release was in abundance of features.

  • Problem Installing HP Officejet J4580 Full Feature Software and Driver

    Hallo !
    I recently installed a new 2T harddrive and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my e-Machine Model ET-1331-g-05w. The clean install of Windows 7, installation of the e-Machine drivers, und 325+ Microsoft  Updates was successful. The System is running fine and protected by Kaspersky 2015 Internet Security. Please note this WAS NOT an OS upgrade from Vista to Win7 - just a clean-install of the original Win7 64-bit OS.
    After creating an ISO and Full Backup(nothing else has been installed at this point) I wan't to re-install my HP Officejet J4580 All-in-one. I have the original CD but I know that it can only be used on an XP or Vista OS - so I went to the www3.hp.Offical  HP Drivers and Support downloaded the Product Installation Software for:
    HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
    File: OJJ4500_FULL_13.exe
    Released: 2014-09-03
    Version: 13.0.0
    My printer wasn't connected via USB - the install ran for about 30 and when I asked to connect the USB cable the splash screen told me it was finishing the install but then it failed with a message unable to located J4580 Drivers. The install that place the Solution Center, HP Document Manager, and HP Photosmart ICON's on my Desktop - when I opened the Solution Center - it said that it couldn't communicate to the printer. The printer and USB cable work fine on my Vista Desktop, my Vista Business Notbook. and my IBM X40 running WP SP3.
    I've also tried running:
    1) HP Update Software Utility - hpsetup.exe
    2) Hp Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSdr.exe
    3) HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility - OJJ4500_Scrubber_13.exe
    but the 2nd attempt to re-install failed too.
    I then reloaded my clean ISO - and tried the Product Installation Software for the Basic Drivers
    HP Officejet Basic Print and Scan Driver
    File: OJJ4500_Basic_13.exe
    Released: 2014-09-03
    Version: 13.0.0
    The Basic Drivers worked fine -but I need the Full Driver. I double checked and the WIN 7 64-bit is shown as a supported OS for the Full Driver - any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile installing  XP virtual machine and installing the Full Drivers in VM. If I go that route - it creates other issues such as sync'n file from 64-bit to VM, then switching back & forth between VM to process other work,  and then the issue of having to scan in VM then sync the folder to 64-bit side.

    Hello @Tom_Ma,
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
    I would like to assist you today with installing your HP Officejet J4580 All-in-One Printer on your Windows 7 computer. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps you have already attempted and your Operating System details in your post. At this point I am going to run you through some additional troubleshooting steps to get this Officejet successfully installed with the Full Feature driver. Please follow the steps below.
    Step 1: Uninstall Drivers:
    It is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Therefore, I am going to have you uninstall the existing software on your computer.
    Click on your Start menu
    Select All Programs
    Select the HP folder
    Select your HP Officejet
    Select Uninstall
    Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall of your printer. Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Clear Temp Files:
    Click on your Start menu
    In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
    When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
    Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
    Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
    Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    Step 3: Unlock System Administrator Account:
    There is the potential that there is something within your User Account that may be blocking the drivers from installing properly. Therefore, I am going to have you unlock the hidden System Administrator Account and install your device under there. Then, when you log back into your normal User Account the printer and all Full Feature software should be installed and functional for you. If all goes well, we we 'hide' the System Administrator Account once troubleshooting is complete.
    Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
    CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
    Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter
    Next, close CMD and restart your computer
    When your computer comes on log into the new account that should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
    If your computer automatically logs into your account after restart than go to your start menu click the arrow beside 'shutdown' and choose 'switch user'. Now log into the Administrator account we just unlocked
    Under the Administrator account download and install the drivers: HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
    Please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of your printer
    Once the installation is complete, please test printing and scanning to confirm that everything is now working properly.
    If everything installs fine, log out of this account and back into your normal User Account. All the Software and Drivers for your product should show installed now on your account.
    Under your User Account please test printing and scanning again to confirm that everything is still working.
    If everything works fine, you will want to Hide the Administrator account.
    Step 4: Hide System Administrator Account:
    Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
    CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
    Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:no and hit enter
    Next, close CMD and restart your computer
    Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!
