New Document dialog defaults to picas?

I have set Millimeters in the unit prefs.
Why am I seeing picase in the New Document dialog?

Set your preferences
i without any document open
-- only then they will be saved as global defaults.
A quick way of setting the units
i with an open document
is to right-click on the horizontal or vertical ruler. Separately, you can set different units for horizontal and vertical. Right-click on the top left intersection point and you'll set both.
Another quick way is toggling units with the keyboard -- Apple+Alt+Shift+U (presumably -- check under Keyboard Shortcuts -> Product area : Views, Navigation -> Toggle Measurement System). This works with or without a document open. Open the Paragraph panel to see what it's set to :-)
Of course, you can enter any measurement into any edit field; just add the unit (f.e., "3 mm"). You can even enter font sizes in mm.

  • "New document" dialog changed in DW8

Has anybody had this oddity in Dreamweaver 8? The dialog box
for New Document has been the new one introduced in 8 (easier to
show a screen shot) which has five icons down the left side saying
Blank Page, Blank Template, Page from Template, Page from Sample
and Other and a globe image background. Yesterday, my Dreamweaver
started displaying a different, simpler New dialog box without the
icons. It has General and Templates tabs at the top and looks very
similar to older versions of Dreamweaver. It also does not give me
access to the CSS templates (1 column elastic, etc)
How can I return it to the previous 'new' New dialog?

I'm afraid people are not responding because they don't
    understand your
question. Do you mean taking things you have already designed

  • New page defaults to picas even when changed to mm in unit preferences

everytime i open a new document in indesign CC the new document dialog box shows the page measurments as picas even thought i would have changed it to mm in the unit preferences. It just reverts back again.
how can i stop this from happening. i have been able to come up with some work arounds but its just time consuming to do everytime i create a new document.
its really frustrating as i my work is mostly for print and i alway use mm.

Change the preferences with no documents open.
All new documents will have those preferences.

  • "Untitled" as default document name for new documents

I have one installation of Adobe Illustrator CS2 in a Mac with which I have the following problem:
Whenever I go to File->New, to create a new document, the default document name is blank, and it should be "untitled".
Is there a way (without reinstalling) to correct this? (turn the default blank document name to "untitled" default document name, for new documents)
    Thank you.

On what Mac? If it's on a new Mac with Snow Leopard, I would guess it is one of those compatibility issues of new OS vs. legacy software. If so, you can't change any of that. Other than that I can only think of trying to edit the document templates...

Now here's a strange thing. I installed AI 14 on my laptop and set up a new
Document Profile exactly as I had done on the G5. On the G5 when I request a
new document it defaults to "Custom" albeit with the settings I had
specified. On the laptop it defaults to my named New Document Profile. So why
is the Profile name not displaying on the G5? Mystery. In a minute someone's
going to advise me to trash the preferences!

  • New document units.. Inches not pixels

    Hallo
How do I make it so a new document in Photoshop uses Inches as its units instead of pixels? I have it set to inches in the preferences -> units & rulers but every time I make a new document it defaults to pixels for the dimensions. Is there a way to make that default to inches?
    Thx
    J

Every new document has measurements in inches/cm or pixels.
In the New dialog just change the units to what you want.
If you choose "Custom" the options stick for next time.

  • Customised new document?

Is it possible to alter the basic 'New Document' settings so that every time I create a new document it retains my personal settings, i.e colours/page size etc, templates are not the answer as I simply want to hit 'new' and start working.?
In effect I suppose I want to create a template and then make that the default 'new document'

    Yes.
First, any colors and styles you create with no documents open will exist in every new document. Second, within the New Document dialog, you can adjust page size, bleed, slug, margins and columns. From there, you can save a preset, and it all settings will be there every time you want a new document. (I'm pretty sure that your choice in that dialog is sticky, so if you choose a preset, it will be the only selected by default the next time you need a new document.)
EDIT: the above mention of document presets is from InDesign, and is not available in Illustrator. But the colors and styles with no document open will work.

  • Automatically attaching CSS style sheets to new documents

I wanted to alert everyone to a great new Community article published by Adobe Community Expert David Powers. The article details how to attach CSS style sheets automatically when you create new documents.
    Here's the article:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/505/cpsid_50564.html
This handy option is easy to miss, especially if you don't use the New Document Dialog box to create documents, so big thanks to David for highlighting this.
Furthermore, the appearance of such an article is a great example of how Community content can interact and live symbiotically with Adobe Help. We've linked directly to David's piece from our documentation, and this is indeed a great thing because David is able to go into much more detail about the process of automatically attaching style sheets than we are able to do in Help:
    Create a blank page
Create a page with a CSS layout
If you're interested in publishing Community articles of your own, you can download the Community Publishing AIR application and get right to work!

    Can I ask why?
David's excellent standard should be the minimum standard for Help files.
The quality of software manufacturers' Help (not just Adobe) has deteriorated greatly over the past decade - to the point where it's now my last resort for learning.
Software manufacturers seem to tacitly rely on 3rd party book authors (such as David's brilliant material), bloggers and online tutorials to explain their products these days.
I'm happy not to have a printed book with my software any more because they were always out-of-date and hard to update. However the quality of PDF and online Help docs is so poor and sparse for my use that I prefer to get my answers by Googling, visiting forums or buying the occasional book.

  • HELP: Illustrator CS2 New Document Presets

I frequently use illustrator for a variety of page layouts and different projects. My problem is that the list of preset document sizes in the "New Document" dialog is not much help to me, it contains all the wrong paper sizes and I would like to change that.
Does anyone know a way to edit this list so I can have my own presets available each time I create a new document?

Look up Templates in the online help.

  • CS6 New Document - Units and Increments - Ruler Units Defaulting Back to Picas

After setting the Units and Increments prefs to inches, InDesign defaults back to picas when creating a new document. Any suggestions? Should I rebuild my prefs? Or should I just give up and revert to my conversion chart from school?

  • Creating a new "Link to a Document" opens Word document or upload document dialog - plus more!

The Link to Document content type seems to be corrupted at root. When I attempt to create a new Link, either Word opens with a blank document or the "Upload" document dialog opens. It's been changing as I investigate.
One things I've noticed is that the "Link to a Document" Content Type on the parent site collection now shows it's parent as Document. this explains why the Word document opens, but not why the Upload dialog does.
While writing this question, I decided to check further and it seems that the other document types, Audio, Video etc.  all now have Document as the parent and are opening a blank Word document.
Has anyone seen this behavior? How do I fix this?
    This is on SharePoint 2010.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I spoke too soon. The process worked for all the custom content types, but the default Document type was still messed up. I probably should have fixed that one first, but...
Anyhow, the Document type had no template going to the Upload File dialog rather than the blank Word document it's supposed to go to. I followed the same procedure I'd followed for the other content types, checking what worked on another site and using that
template which in this case was a blank field:
So, I went opened Document, Document Content Type and went to advanced settings. The template field was empty, which matched the working site, so thinking that if I saved, it would match up with the working site. I saved the Document content type and when
after several minutes the save failed with an incredibly long list of locations where that were being perceived as "read only" plus several hidden content types that were listed as sealed. This snapshot shows a few of they many pages of content types. (I poorly
    struck through confidential info):
Besides this gigantic error, which would require going to hundreds of locations on the site to change read access settings, which are, as far as I can tell actually not "read only" or are inaccessible, such as the hidden "System Page Layout' and so forth
which shouldn't be based upon the default document type anyway and therefor not fixable, I need to understand why this is happening and what to do about it. I don't want to spend the next two days going over all of these libaries and content types and ending
up back where I started with all the content types still screwed up. Afterall, I've spent about a day creating all these custom Content Types only to have the default Document content type loose its settings and corrupting everything and another day fixing
it and having it happen again.
This is a highly unacceptable behavior on the part of SharePoint and I would really like to fix this.
    Help is sorely needed.
    Thanks in advance

  • Photoshop CS5 New Document - RGB as default

I work in the print industry, and do a fair share of copy + paste into a new photoshop document. My photoshop color settings are set as I need them (CMYK), but everytime I create a new document in Photoshop, it defaults to RGB, and I have to change it manually every time.
Does anyone know how I can get this to default to my chosen color settings (the Save Preset option when creating New Document also saves size dimensions, which does not work for me) ? Thanks!

Answer 2: There seems to be no way to uncheck size dimensions when saving the preset. Anything I try remembers dimensions.
Answer 3: We discussed using an action as a workaround if needed, but were hoping to solve them problem. It's just frustrating because under the Save Preset option, it says "Document profile will default to working space if not included in the saved preset." It's not behaving this way, in fact:
    A.  It does not default to the last options selected in the new dialog window either.
    B.  Also, it does not recognize color settings of my clipboard content (from Illustrator). It defaults to RGB in Photoshop whether I copy/paste from an Illustrator CMYK workspace or RGB workspace.
