New Draft-N Card for Legacy PowerBook (PPC based)

Any words yet or recommendation on a wireless card for legacy PowerBook (PPC-based) systems? I know the newer systems have the updated AirPort Extreme (using the Draft-N enabler), but what about others who have older PowerBooks with a user-installable card. Will Apple be creating a new wireless card for use in these systems? Or is there a 3rd Party compliant card to use in the PC Slot of the PB G4 that is Draft-N and works with the new AirPort Extreme base station N?

I doubt it.
When Airport was upgraded the last time (from 802.11b to 802.11g), the older hardware was stuck with integrated cards that could not be upgraded.
Is this Apple being mean? Not really.
The new n hardware needs two or three antennas to work. Older laptops with 802.11g have only one antenna built into the case - so you can't simply upgrade the card.
The only way to upgrade is if a third-party manufacturer produces a mac-compatible version. Which could happen. But it would be the sort of card that sticks out of the PC-Card slot.
It's not ideal, but remember that laptops get upgraded all the time, and you can't upgrade the processor or the screen either.

If a phone is sold from one friend to another and wants to use it on a different carrier the friend can contact the carrier it was sold by to request it unlocked. I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. Looking for Nvidea GeForce 6600 OR Similar Graphics Card for Quad G5 PPC

Was wondering whether someone might help me out with a minor issue I'm having...
I have recently acquired a Quad 2.5GHz PPC G5 (with PCIe). When I bought it, it came installed with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card, which works just fine. Heard these cards are very good for 3D rendering, etc...
However... As I am an audio engineer, I don't need a flashy graphics card... Instead I need "flashy" sound cards...
I have two PCIe UAD-2 Quad cards for all my UAD plugin needs within Logic Pro... And I have PCIe Symphony X card for my Apogee (AD16X & DA16X) front end sound conversion. All which sound and work very well... So far so good!
But here's the problem... My Quad PPC has 4 PCIe slots, which should be fine for my arrangement i.e. one slot for graphics card, one for PCIe Symphony card, two for UAD-2 Quad cards... BUT the damnable NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 takes up two PCIe slots!!!
I have looked on line to find out what the Quad 2.5GHz G5 PPC was originally supplied with: an Apple OEM Nvidea GeForce 6600. However these are rare and hard to come by now-a-days... And I can't wait forever till one pops up for sale.
So... Can anyone recommend to me a graphics card that will work in the Quad 2.5GHz G5 PPC... AND take up only one PCIe slot and be able to run a 30 inch DVI Apple display i.e. it needs two DVI ports???
I'd even do an out right swap for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 and a good condition and working Apple OEM Nvidea GeForce 6600!? Heard this is more than a fair deal...

You can buy a Geforce 6600LE at We Love Macs. They aren't cheap, though.
This eBay seller has several of the 6600LE cards, at a much better price. The seller is very reliable (from experience) and carries the positive feedback to support my recommendation.
This 7800GT is also a good possibility. It takes only one slot, and provides much better performance than the 6600LE.
This flashed 7800GT is also an option. A flashed card is one that has the PC ROM replaced with Mac ROM. Again, this seller knows his stuff.....
As with the 6600LE, the 7800GT has a dual link DVI to support the 30" ACD.
After you get a replacement card, might try and get a few quid for the FX 4500 on eBay.
An original will sell better than the flashed models that are selling there.

eBay is a good source, though as ever, buy wisely and make sure you get the right card for your specific model.
Alternatively there are wireless cards available that go in the card slot. Again eBay is full of them but be sure they're OSX compatible - its a good idea to put this phrase in your search terms.

It just plugged straight in and was recognised as an Airport Card. This is from the UK site but I'm sure you can find the same thing wherever you live, or at that price just have it shipped.

New 128MB Flash card for Nomad

I have a Nomad II with 0 internal memory. I have recently bought a new 28 MB Flash card for my Nomad. I have the firmware upgrade ( got it 2 years ago) and had formatted it. It had problems when I first tried to format it, but I did format it and it worked fine for a whole day (songs on it and everything). Then the next day it does read the flash card. It is weird, it see that it is in there but when I try to listen to music it says there is no music files. I tried the info and it says that there is 2 MB free. Now I tried to reinstall the firmware upgrade and it still has that problem. I don't know what happened. I have 28 MB flash card I have been using for a while and it reads that, but not the new one. Can anyone help?

The current version of GB (and the previous one too, I think) requires an Intel processor. You'll probably get a version of GB 08 cheaply on Ebay or elswhere on the net. It might be a little sluggisch on your computer.

Airport card for a Powerbook G4 and DVD hardware upgrade

Hi all, my sister has Powerbook G4 titanium onyx model # 48407 and needs to find an airport card and have it installed. Can you advise us where she can look to purchase one. Apparently apple nolonger makes them.
Also, our second question is: Can a DVD player be installed also. If so, where can she locate one.

These products are available, although I would think hard about the expense considering the value of the computer, even more so if you pay for installation.
The old original Airport cards can be found at many used parts dealers like iFixit:

Remember that these are 802.11b only, not the newer G or any other variant of Wifi, but it would still work on all common wifi networks. It also will not do the better WPA encryption, only the old minimal WEP encryption. Installation is not difficult (iFixit has excellent instructions), or you'll have to find a shop to install it.
You can get wifi cards that use the PC card slot, but last time I looked, it was a nightmare figuring out which ones were compatible.
The optical drive can be replaced with a combo (plays DVDs) or Superdrive (burns DVDs) from places like MCE or OWC:

NEED help on choosing a new VGA video CARD for 875pNEO-LRS mobo.

I've purchase a GEforce4 MX440SE 4x/2x 128mb DDR (Taiwain base company made it)...however on their manual & web site..I cant find the voltage info. of it. Thats why I worry that if its not 1.5v 4x AGP card, I will ruin my new mobo. My first question is that if there is a way that I can test the voltage of it. I really dont want to wast the money I already spent on it. However if its my only choice is to buy a different one ... Please post what type of Video CARD you guys are using for this mobo. I'am using a Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis PRO 128Mb on my mobo, works fine. One thing. Dont't use the drivers on the cd that comes with the card. Get the fresh stuff from ATI's site.

New MacBook Air SuperDrive for G4 PowerBook

My G4 PowerBook is still going strong except the original SuperDrive died a few months ago. While watching the MacWorld 2008 Keynote, I see that there is now an External MacBook Air SuperDrive option available for the new MacBook Air for $99. Does anyone know if this external Superdrive will work with the G4 PowerBooks?

Hi, DLaid, and welcome to Apple Discussions. You could replace your internal Superdrive yourself for $50-S75 USD (depending on what drive you chose) and an hour of your time. See the link in my post above. Buying an external optical drive to use with a portable computer would be silly, but if you wanted to do it anyway, there are dozens to choose from besides Apple's. As I explained above, a USB-only drive is totally inappropriate for use with a Tibook, even if it would work. Get a FireWire-capable drive if you buy an external.
Be aware also that when you post in these forums, you aren't talking to Apple; you're just talking to other Mac users like yourself. The people at Apple who need to hear your concerns don't monitor these boards. This is explained in the "Help & Terms of Use" link that appears in the right sidebar of every Discussions page. Your second-paragraph gripes would be more usefully addressed directly to Apple through the appropriate Product Feedback channels:

Can anyone suggest an 802.11g card for my PowerBook G4

Just bought an Airport Extreme card only to find it's not compatible with my PowerBook G4, 867mhz which is the old Airport Card compatible which is older 802.11b technology selling for around $150 bucks on ebay. I'd love to find something that plugs in like exactly like the Airport card and use the antenna, but understand if a Wi-Fi PC card is my only option. I've seen the cards that plug in the USB slot, but only want to go that route if it's my only solution. Thanks and hope someone may have a suggestion.

Optimal System for Legacy PowerBook

I must keep OS9 running to support legacy software.
I have a 15" 1.5GHz PowerBook that I can use for this.
There's OS 9.2.1 Classic on it now, with 10.4.11.
Q1. - What OSX would be optimal for the PB or should I stick with Tiger?
Q2. - Is there a "best" (Adobe) Creative Suite for it, too?
For current s/w, I use a MBP running 10.6.3

New Nvidia Graphics Cards for Premiere GPU Acceleration

Hi! I'm looking for a new laptop. Under the list of the cards usesd for GPU Acceleration in Premiere (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.edu.html), none of the new GTX 700m's are listed. Is the list of acceptable GPUs out of date and the 700s do work, or do the 700s really not work? Thanks!

For Premiere Pro CC we made some chnages to our GPU support. See this post by Al Mooney.
Also, some customers may be aware that in the past there was a not-so-secret way of enabling non-supported GPUs by the ‘hacking’ or removal of a text file. This is no longer necessary in Premiere Pro CC. As long as you have a reasonably modern card with at least 1GB of VRAM, you will still be able to enable that card in the Project Settings dialog. A warning message will appear letting you know that your card has not been certified by Adobe, but once that dialog is clicked through you can use your GPU. The team does try to certify as many GPUs as possible, but we can’t test everything, so this is a way to let you decide if you’re happy using an untested configuration.

Where can I buy a replacement AirPort Card for a PowerBook?

My old G3 Firewire PowerBook is having problems recognizing my AirPort Base Station. I think the internal AirPort Card is intermittent. Where can I buy a replacement Apple AirPort card ? My local Apple Store claims that they are no longer available now that the Extreme cards are standard issue.
