New drive and leopard

I got a new hard drive and cloned my old one using superduper.
Now I can't install leopard without partitioning my drive which it says
will wipe out my drive. Any ideas? I did not want to install all that again.

What system was on your old drive that you cloned? Did you make sure that the new drive was partitioned as GUID partition table before you cloned to it? It should also have a format of Mac OS extended Journaled. If it was not set this way at the start you will have to partition it correctly to upgrade.

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

  • New hard drive and leopard.

ok so my hard drive failed the other day which sucked because nothing was backed up, but i have ordered my new HD and waiting for it to come in so i can install it myself. for now i am booting off of an external HD that the mac genius set up for me (which was a huge help).
but i was wondering, when my new hard drive comes in, how do i get leopard on it?
and i only have a single pack for ilife 08, and it has been used already, so can i just reinstall it, or do i have to buy another i life 08 pack?
    thanks for the help guys!

Your allowed to have it on one machine and can reinstall it again since your replacing the hard drive. You could use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone from the external drive to your new internal. You could also reinstall Leopard on the new drive and have a nice new copy to start from and then install iLife on that.

  • I upgraded to OS X10.9.4 and now my Cannon scanner will not work. I downloaded the new driver and still no luck.

I upgraded to OS X10.9.4 and now my Cannon MX 860 scanner will not work. The printer works. I downloaded the new driver and still no luck. Please help!

Open Print & Scan preferences. Select the printer in the sidebar list and click on the Delete [-] button. CTRL- or RIGHT-click in the sidebar area and select Reset Print System from the context menu. Re-Add the printer by clicking on the Add [+] button, select your printer from the little browser that opens, select the proper driver if it isn't set automatically, then click on the Add button. See if it now works.
Oh, be sure you install the new driver you downloaded.
BTW, you don't have a PowerMac as shown in your profile. PowerMacs were tower machines that ran PPC processors, not Intel processors. You really should correct that information in your profile.

  • Geforce GTX 285, OS10.6.4, new driver, and performance

An experience: I was one of the unhappy users of a Geforce GTX 285, a GPU that just didn't want to perform according to specs. As an X-Plane pilot this fact gave me headaches and a low fps level. Now, shortly after installing the OS update to 10.6.4 I discovered a very recent new driver (19.5.8f03) for the card (http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce-macosx-19.5.8f03-driver.html)
I installed it and also re-installed the latest CUDA version 3.0.14 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/MacOSX-CUDA-3.0.html). Since this update the GTX's performance is excellent on the Mac OS side of my PM.
I am no expert, but for power saving reasons the card seems to have three levels of clock speed that X-Plane was rarely able to trigger to the highest level. Perhaps the new driver lowers the load thresholds that trigger the card into higher performance?
Did anybody have a similar experience? Does anybody of you cognoscenti have an idea of what the driver changes may have been?

I've installed this new driver and it has not made the slightest difference to the performance of the MacPro running 10.6.4 with an EVGA 285 for Mac.
Half-Life2 frame rates are exactly the same post driver update as they were prior (much lower fps than when running 10.6.3).
What I have noticed is the fan noise ramps to an alarmingly high speed when entering various in-game environments. The fan was running so loud I quit the game in fear that some damage might be done to the card.

  • Installing on new drive and copying files to it

I have a Macpro with a 500GB drive running 10.5.4 that contains the OS, applications and my media. I would like to put either a 1TB or 2TB drive into it and put Snow Leopard on it and transfer all of my data and files (almost 450GB) to the new drive.
1.) How do I install the new OS on the new drive after I swap it out with the old one?
2.) What is the best way to copy all of my media and files to the new drive after the OS is installed?
    Thanks.

Put the new drive in and keep the old one as well.
Boot from the SL DVD and install it on the new drive.
Once you boot in SL for the first time, use the Migration Assistant to transfer your stuff. Point it to the old drive.
You could also clone your old drive on the new drive using Supper Dupper and then upgrade to SL. If it was me that's what I would do, because I don't like Migration Assistant. But it's your choice..

  • How do i move photos and catalog to a new drive and have lightroom make the same move

I am trying to move all my photos to a new drive with different drive letter.  I know I can do a backup and restore inside PSE13 to perform that.  However, I also have Lightroom 5 on the current setup.  How would I now use the new location for the photos in lightroom if they are already moved by PSE?
    Hope this makes sense!

I don't recommend the Time Machine or Migation Assistent approach. The first tneds to be very slow and the second often carries baggage that is probably best not transferred to a new computer.
Lightroom doesn't use activation, therefore, can be installed on your new Mac without having first removed it fom the old. Your images and catalogs can be copied across to the new Mac using an a portable disk drive as the transfer medium. Typically, on Mac computers, the catalog and image files are stored in the Pictures folder. If this is where you have them then then copy them to the same location on the new Mac. Once copied you can open the catalog folder then double click on the .lrcat file to launch Lightroom.

  • Hard Drive Crash - need help with choosing new drive and installation

My hard drive seems to have crashed. My computer froze, and when I tried to reboot, it got stuck at the startup screen. I started from the system CD, ran the disk repair utility, and it said it could not repair the disk. I ran Tech Tool Pro and it could not repair the disk. I tried to start up in Target disk mode while connected to my older G4 iMac (that I'm using now as my backup), and the disk would not mount. So I need some expert advice - I am assuming the hard drive is toast. I wish I could at least mount it in target disk mode to transfer files, but I haven't been able to do that. I was going to take it in for repair (or possibly buy a new computer), but after reading some of the posts here, I am thinking I could just replace the internal hard drive with a 3.5" SATA drive.
What I need to know is am I correct about this? And is this the right kind of drive for my iMac? Are there any specifications I need to be aware of when ordering a new drive? I downloaded the manual explaining how to replace the drive and it looks doable. I would appreciate any guidance as to choosing the new drive (specific brand names/models would be great), installing the drive, and tips for formatting, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to Discussions - any 3 1/2" SATA drive will be fine, go to [macsales.com] or [smalldog.com] or [newegg.com] and choose whichever drive fits your wallet. Most of them are reliable, I have heard of problems with Seagate and Hitachi, but there are always some failures with any brand. Make sure to get a good warranty.Instructions will come with the drive, but you can download them from [Apple|http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/imac> as well.

  • My HD died and the Apple store installed the new drive and upgraded me to Mavericks.  I no longer have iPhoto which I miss very much.  How do I get it back and do I need it or do my pics go somewhere else? help

My Hard Drive died and when the Apple store installed the new drive they upgraded me to Mavericks.  I no longer had iPhoto.  Where do I get iPhoto, do I need it and where are my pictures going when they import???  Help I'm SO confused and frustrated.  Thank you.

    You need two items
    1 - the iPhoto application -
You install it from the App Store
2 - and the iPhoto library - restore form your backup from just before the disk died - no importing involved - simply restore and launch iPhoto and it will look in the pictures folder and open it and it will be exactly the way it was when you made the backup
As to your question Do you need it - No you can manage your photos anyway you please - iPhoto is a good way but not required - you can use any software you want and you can import photos using image Capture (in your applications folder)  or any other software you choose - If you use iPhoto then they by default going your iPhoto library - if you use other software then they go where you say to put them

  • Time Machine almost full, can I start a new drive and NOT delete old one?

Because I had an External HD crash, I was wondering if I can start a new External Hard Drive (500 GB) from scratch (meaning I don't copy old files to it) and keep the old one as a back up to the back up??? Also, I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that. If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
Or is is simply better to copy everything over (I asssume it all remains on the old 300 GB hard drive) and simply let it start rewriting? My iMac is gettin on in years and I'd like to be prepared should something happen to it.
And as you can tell, I am not very techie so please feel free to talk down to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
    Thanks . . running out of space soon . . .

Just to be sure, do you mean your TM drive crashed?  Or an external HD, containing data that TM was backing-up?

Again, I'm not sure what you mean.   If you mean put the old TM drive "on the shelf" and start fresh on a new one, then yes.  Eject and disconnect it, then format the new one (see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5 if you're not sure how).  Give it a different name, so you're sure which is which, then select it as the destination via the Time Machine Preferences window.  TM will do a full backup to it, so may take a while.
The backups on the new drive will be completely separate from the old ones.
If you ever need to see or restore from the new ones, use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per #17 in the above link.
I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that.
Yes, it's usually not a good idea to exclude System or Applications folders.
If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
No -- your Applications folder is probably in the range of 10-20 GBs.wn to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
Again, not sure just what you mean.

  • Installed new driver and printing still stops with images

I have a Cannon printer and have it shared thru the USB port on my Airport. Any time I have to print a large image file the print gets almost complete and just stops. Light keep blinking and the printer driver says it's still printing. No error messages. If I plug the printer back into the USB port on the Macbook it prints the image file just fine.
I was hopeful that this new driver would fix the problem. Anyone know of a solution?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi,
Different fonts will occupy different space to print.
So, the new font may occupy more space when compare to the old font and width of the window may not accomdate.
You can check by reducing the Font size of the new font, whether its actually printing with the new font.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vamsi.

I right-clicked the iPhone in Device Manager and chose Update Driver (for me, the iPhone was showing up in the Device Manager under Imaging Devices).
I selected "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and clicked Next.
I chose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and clicked Next.
In the next window there were 2 drivers to choose from: the "Digital Still Camera" driver that my PC kept thinking the iPhone was, and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. I selected the Apple Mobile Device driver.
The driver installed, and at that point iTunes 9.2 could finally detect the iPhone. Yay!"

  • Tiger on MacBook Drive and Leopard w/BootCamp and Windows XP on External?

I currently have the latest version of Tiger installed on my MacBook's internal HDD (10.4.11) and I have an External USB HDD that has Leopard (I can't remember if it is the latest or not) installed on it.
I currently am using VMware Fusion in Tiger with a copy of Windows XP Pro, and I want to use BootCamp in Leopard to install Windows XP Pro so I can run it without it being inside a virtual machine. I already have a separate partition (currently FAT32) on the external reserved for the copy of Windows, and I thought that when I went to install using BootCamp, that it would then reformat to NTFS for me.
I think it still would do this, but I do not know for sure as BootCamp will not let me install Windows. It comes up with an error saying something like the BootCamp Assistant won't allow it to run off of an external HDD. Would this be that I have to have Leopard installed on one partition (at least) of my MacBook's internal HDD so that it can install Windows (on either the internal OR external HHD - in it's own partition)?
Is there any easy way to partition my MacBook's internal HDD without having to re-install Tiger during the partitioning (and maybe reformatting?) if I have enough space available on my HDD? I am still fairly new to Macs and I have yet had to do anything with reformatting/repartitioning and re-installing the OS, I have upgraded the OS (on my old G3 iBook), and I had done the separate Leopard install on the External HDD (as I didn't want to ger rid of Tiger and still use Tiger as my main OS, haven't been totally ready for the big switch).
I have cleared off lots of space on my HDD the past week, so I have about 47GB available on my 80GB drive. My external is a 100GB currently in 3 partitions - I think, Leopard installed with 37GB left available, 30GB for my Windows -blank, and I think I have a 10-15GB blank misc storage partition.
I have copies of all my documents and files from my MacBook on my network NAS, and I have copies of all applications installed on my NAS as well (the install files that is). So if needed I could reformat and partition and install various OS's where needed, but I would like to try and NOT have to do this just because my MacBook is now used as my main system (my windows desktop is not even hooked up and my windows laptop has been cleared so that I can try to sell it).
So I would like to at least keep my basic web browsers and other daily apps with info installed for use while trying to get stuff set up to use BootCamp to install Windows XP, but I can totally restart from a blank slate if needed.
I just need some help on exactly what I should do (where to find the "options" I need to change through Disk Utility, and what might be the easiest way (or order) to do these things in.
Any other comments or suggestions would be gladly appreciated, I look forward to getting my MacBook (along with an External USB HDD for added space) set up to run a full copy of Windows and finally let me get away from that dreaded OS (on a Windows specific PC). I stopped liking it back when my dad switched to Win 95 from Windows 3.1, and had much prefered DOS over Windows as well.
I just need to have access to it now and then for little things, and to play some of the (slightly older) games that I have that I do wish to play, but not on a system that makes me waste more time trying to fix/upgrade it/tweak it as I get to actually do ANYTHING on it.
So thanks in advance for any help and suggestions...

    Hi,
sadly BootCamp does indeed not support the installation of Windows on external harddisks.
Mostly because Windows itself (courtesy of Microsoft) does not support this either.
There is one how-to, that claims to let you install Windows on an external harddisk, see here: http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-dr ive/
But as you can see, it is quite a hassle and not for the faint-hearted
If you don't want to go that way, your only choice is to install Leopard on your internal HD and use the external for Tiger.
Since you have a 'Windows' partition on your external HD, that is big enough, you can use it to clone your internal Tiger partition to that using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner and after verifying that the new Tiger partition is bootable, clone your Leopard from the external to the internal HD.
After both your OSXs are set and checked, you can then run the BootCamp Assistant from Leopard to install Windows on your internal HD.
And at last you can cleaar-up your external HD of everything you don't want/need anymore.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How can I load mavericks on a new drive, and then re-load all my software on that drive?

My operating drive has bad sectors. Bought a new one to load on Mavericks and re-load all my software. How can I do this?

If your Pro came with install CD's or DVD's, you would use them to install the OS that came with the computer, and then upgrade to Mavericks. If Snow Leopard came with your Pro, as it says in your profile, that should work.
If your Pro did not originally come with installer discs, then you would need an OSX recovery disk assistant
OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0 , or an internet connection, to do internet recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery
Another option is a Mavericks installer disk, which you can make yourself with  DiskMaker X
Once you get the Mavericks installer downloaded, but before you install it, make an installer with DiskMakerX so you'll have it for the next time you need it. The installer deletes itself after you do the install.
