New driver & software crash...

Hello everyone:
I just downloaded and installed a printer driver fron Canon. During the time I was installing, I had Photoshop CS2 open in the background. After driver install, the mac restarted.
Now I get Application Error if I try to open or create a new psd document, even after restarting the machine. Any suggestions out there as to how to fix? The only possible solution I knew of was to fix disk permissions in the Disk Utility, but it did not work.

OK - I'm beyond frustrated right now - I NEEP HELP!
I cannot resolve this issue. I'm listing each step I've done so far to this point, at which none has solved my issue. Note that the problem shows an error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." everytime I try opening a photoshop document or create a new one. However, if I boot in Safe startup and log into my account, I have no issues whatsoever.
(please note that each step was tested before the next step was implemented)
1) Repaired file permissions.
2) Deleted the cannon printer driver (this was the last item I installed before my problems occured).
3) Deleted the photoshop CS2 user preferences and system prefs.
4) Uninstalled Photoshop CS2, and reinstalled. Repaired file permissions.
5) Uninstalled Adobe CS2, and reinstalled entire CS2. Repaired file permissions.
6) Deleted user and system caches.
After all of this, you think it should work, but I have absolutely no luck. It still runs fine under safe startup though.
Also - I am also unable to apply the current update Photoshop 9.0.1 before or after install. It asks for the location of the app, but the app is greyed out unable to be selected.
If there is anyone who could step me through any suggestions before I take an axe to this thing is greatly appreciated!

NMic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7. PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame? My mic has worked perfectly up untill the new driver update. It is now version .04.000 released 30 June 09'. That was yesterday as of this post. It was a complete reinstall of the driver and software and a new updater. When I finished all of the updates my mic no longer worked. Keep in mind that I have 2 mics and neither of them work. With the old driver and software I was able to access the Creative Audio Control Panel and I would find a tab called "Jacks". In that tab I could select "line in" or "microphone". I would select microphone and all would work well. Now I have a completely dumbed down Creative Audio Control Panel interface with no option that is similar. I have clean wiped and reinstalled the driver and sofware updates 3 times now with the same effect.Can anyone help please? I really don't want to wait -3 weeks for Creative support to get back to me. The only thing worse than Creative support is UBISoft support!

Cannot connect wirelessly to HP Photosmart C4380 with new driver/software

I have been using my HP Photosmart C4380 for years without a problem. I've upgraded to OS X Yosemite v.10.10.4 and with that I regularly do automatic driver updates through the Apple Software Update. Recently my wireless connection to the printer stopped working. In the past I simply reconnected it via USB and ran the Network Wizard Setup app to reconnect it to the network. I can't seem to find that app anymore with the new software updates. I've tried configuring it through the new HP Utility app to no avail. The Setup New Device and HP Auto Wireless Connect options cannot locate my printer unless connected to USB and will not give me an option to configure the network settings. I have referenced http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394/ also with no luck. The printer does not have a Wireless Wizard Setup on it's LCD options as per Step 1 under the wireless connection instructions. And the WPS option in Step 2 does not work becuase the wifi button on the printer only brings up the Network menu where my only options are to turn the wireless radio on/off and to print a configuration page. There are no options to connect to a network. Connecting the printer to my laptop via USB works in a pinch if I need to print something, but I'd like to not be tethered to it and restore my wifi connection which used to work in the past.

I reset the printing system. Still not having any luck. I can only get my printer as far as a temporary 169.254.207.168 IP address. That brings me to this page with two tabs. In this tab, I'm able to change the SSID to my network and add the WEP. I've tried both Infrastructure and Ad Hoc (since I didn't know which to use) but both have not been successful. The page times out after awhile and I click my wifi setting to check the connection. I can then connect to my printer whose name has changed from hpsetup to my network name...but is still listed under devices. So I click on that device and run another newtork config page and I still get the same 169.254.207.168 IP address. So then I tried two things:1. Switching over to my actual wifi network with the name network name. This does not read my printer anymore and I get an 0.0.0.0 IP address2. While connected to the network listed under devices, I tried adding the Printer in my Printer & Scanner settings. This works and prints, but only when connected under the devices wifi, and not my normal wifi. When I switch to my normal wifi and try to print, it can no longer find the printer. I seem to be having trouble getting an 192.168 IP address for my printer so that it can read on my normal Wifi network without being listed as just a device....

Creative Smart Recorder with new driver

'Creative Smart Recorder with new driver< I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2v purchased and installed in Oct, 2005. I use the Smart Recorder a lot and all was fine until two weeks ago when I downloaded and installed new driver software from Creative. All of the rest of the software works fine (no change or improvement in the operation in the card, which is why I went for the new driver), but?now when I try to start the ?Smart Recorder I get a Windows message "Creative Smart Recofder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."? It asks if I want to Send Error Report. As far as I can tell Smart Recorder never opened. Other than putting my computer back into the what it was two weeks ago is there anything that I can do? I'm not sure that the previous driver, etc. is still there. Thank you.

+ Need to add something. I thought that if a program loaded I was okay. But, no. The media studio will load but is no longer connected, I mean nothing will record, not from the internet or the CD player. No connection. Whatever Creative gave me, it is not friendly with older versions of the software.

HP GPU Driver Software

Hello I have an HP dv6 notebook with an ATI mobility Radeon HD 5650 GPU. I have been told that I ahve to contact HP to obtain new driver software for my GPU and was wondering how I can obtain that.

Hello Shane - Actually what you've suggested I've already tried, without success. There is the possibility of course that I'm doing something completely stupid, however I don't currently know where the stupid point is.
But I followed your advice - the computer is connected to LAN port #1 on the router via an Ethernet cable; likewise the printer, which is powered up, is connected to the router via Lan port #3; no other devices occupying ports #2 & #4.
Print & Scan pane open > + button selected > Add Printer Pane opens, nothing there under the Default printer button, likewise when the IP button is selected: Protocol choices are LIne Printer Daemon - LPD, Internet Printing Protocol IPP, HP Jet Direct socket - no IP address in any of them, no Name, no Location.
If I select 'Print Using" and choose HP Laserjet from the Printer list then enter the router's IP address 192.168.1.254, I get a message in that "The selected printer sofware isn't from the manufacturer and may not let you use all the features of your printer." If I select Add anyway, I get another pop-up message "Unable to verify the printer on your network; it cannot currently be determined if 192.168.1.254 supports Internet Printing Protocol. Would you still like to create the queue?" Yes.The printer, now titled 192.168.1.254 now shows up in the Print & Scan window. if I try to print a document, a print queue is created alongside the message "The printer is busy' and of course it doesn't print anything.
If I do this again and enter instead the Ethernet IP address, same sequence of alerts occurs, but when I try to print something a pop-up message says "Printer's URL is incorrect."
Is there a wrong step in here somewhere Shane? I'm sure the solution is nearby, but I'm a blind man groping in the dark.

Hard drive crashed. How do I get OSX on my new drive?

I think my hard drive crashed, oh my. First, let me say that all my data is backed-up on a cloud drive or on my network drive. So, I am good there. The computer is now completely inoperable, can't start up, not even in safe mode. Just goes to Apple grey screen and then shuts down, that Issa far as I can get. Does not even play the start-up chime anymore.
Question I have is this: I did not make a bootable start-up drive (dumb), so when I get a new drive to replace this, how will I get the OS on it to start- up and get the new drive ready?

If you don't get a startup chime then you may have a worse problem. Just be prepared.
What year is your MBP? From 2011 onward you would use Internet Recovery. Earlier you would need to install the original software that came with the computer on software restore DVDs.
Internet Recovery
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
            if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
DVD Installation:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

A blank drive needs to be formatted first, you do that hold c boot (or hold option key boot) from the 10.6 install disk (or Lion USB)

If you created/burned Recovery Media boot from it to restore the original OS with all drivers/software. If you don't have Recovery Media you can order from HP for a small fee. Life without music care of two thefts, a crash, and a new drive

Hi,
They say that things happen in threes - and they are right. on the same day, my iPad and iPhone were extricated from my possession and my Mac crashed. Eventually my phone will be replaced. In the meantime I am using a throwaway £15 Samsung thing that is sending me mental. I have replaced the iPad with a shiny new one and, after a lot of work have persuaded my Mac Mini to work-ish.
the 320Gb Seagate drive in the Mac Mini has toasted itself. Ni recovery program will fix it - most of them cannot see it. I have replaced it with an internal 120Gb SSD and an external 120Gb SSD. I have added a 1Tb external for Time Machine and a 1.5Tb external for documents and storage. The two SSD drives hold the system and the applications. Unfortuneately, as the original 320Gb drive is toasted, and for whatever reason the toasting took out my original Time Machine, the current situation is a new system and reinstall the paid for apps. That's all fine until I get to iTunes. I don't have my 43 days 45 year collection of music as the phone and pad went missing. I do have a Classic iPod of the kind with a 60Gb hard drive. That has my music collection on board.
Eventually gets to the question... Two things. One, how do I get the music back into the iTunes on the new drive on my Mini and, Two, can anyone suggest a disk repair/recovery program that might help me reconstruct some of my lost files from the drive.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

Some have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files. Note that such recovery is often meeessy. Sometimes files are recovered but without any names, etc.

I’ve never needed to do that and am fairly new to using itunes but try doing this. Go to, “Store,” in the itunes menu and select, “Authorize this computer.” Enter apple id and see if that works. I heard that method is used to transfer purchased media to a new computer but I don’t know if it works for regular stored media. Please let me know if that works.

IPod has my only copy of my lifetime of music on it from a hard drive that crashed...how do I get that music to my new Laptop which it's not synced to?

All my old legitamately purchased music is on my iPod Touch 64GB 3rd Generation from a desktop in which the hard drive had crashed. The only copies I now have of the music are on the iPod and I want to load them from the iPod to my new Laptop (MacBook) which the iPod is not Synced to.
What do I do in this situation?
I also have much more memory left on the iPod but I can't add songs to it without erasing all of my old music from pretty much all my life...
What can I do?
(Answers such as..."That's why you back up your hard drives or burn or transfer the music on external media..." are not a solution to this problem they are preventive measures...and why isn't the iPod considered a form of external media?)
(Apple...if your answer is what I think it will be which will yield no solution...just keep this situation in mind when you force iTunes upon us. Prove me wrong.)

I installed Windows 8 on a new drive. How can I move my PhotoShop CS5 software to that new system?

I originally downloaded the CS5 software in September, 2011 and installed it in Windows Vista. I have since installed Windows 8 on a new drive. I am trying to re-install it on that new drive. I deactivated it on the old system. I can't find a way to re-download it from the Adobe site. How can I download CS5 onto my new system?

I built a website, using iWeb. I backed up daily with Time Machine and OS 10.6. My HD crashed. I replaced the HD and installed 10.5. But now I can't restore iWeb and my domain file. How do I restore my site files on the new drive?

Now I'm having difficulty figuring out how to get the iWeb files from the Time Machine external drive used with the 10.6 to the new drive running 10.5...any help muich appreciated....!!

Go to to your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in the Finder and then enter Time Machine. Go back to the last backup that has the domain file, select it and use the Restore button.
