New DVD drive help

I just got a Mac Pro with Leopard it has one super drive . I added a second Pioneer DVR-112D. The drive opens and closes properly with the eject key. When I insert any disk. It ejects it after 4 or 5 seconds. The firmware of the drive is 1.21. I have the drive configured to be a slave. That is the only dip switch set.
Anyone have an idea how I can get ti to read a disk. Thanks in advance
Clay

Fixed. Thanks

  • I want to put in a new DVD drive

I just got this new DVD drive and i want to put it in my Power Mac G4 Quicksilver. Is that possible?

    Hi
It should be possible, although you'll have to replace the existing optical drive, as the second bay can only accomodate 3.5" drives such as a zip drive.
Installation instructions, including a QuickTime movie, can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75314
Removing the old drive just involves unplugging the ribbon and power cable, undoing four screws to remove the drive and carrier from the computer and undoing a further four screws to remove the drive from the carrier. Installation of the new drive is basically the reverse process. You'll also just need to make sure the jumpers on the back of the new drive are set correctly to master.
You may want to make sure the drive is supported by the OS first though, with or without the help of PatchBurn:

  • Installed new DVD drive, now iBook will not charge

    Hi guys,
I'm a long-time Mac user, and this is the first time I've had any problems so I'm new to this board. I had a bit of a look around, both on this forum and the FAQs, and this appears to be a unique problem.
Basically, for a while my iBook CD drive was spitting out CDs, as per a common problem which I was not able to resolve. Eventually the tray broke and it would not click back into place, and so I was left with an iBook with a CD tray constantly popped out.
I ordered a new DVD drive/burner that claimed it would fit an iBook, and when it arrived I pulled apart my laptop and installed it. Everything appeared to be in order, until I tried to plug in the AC adaptor.
The orange light goes on for about 10-15 seconds, then slowly fades away to nothing. If I unplug and plug it back in straight away, I get no light and no charge. If I wait 15 minutes, the orange light goes back on but once again fades after a short period of time.
My first thought is that perhaps the DVD drive is incompatible/drawing too much power, but I can't figure out how this would affect the charger, and why the problem would persist whether the power is on or off.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this? I don't hold much hope that this will be fixed without expensive surgery, but I'd like to try
    iBook G3, PowerPC G5, iPod   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi Ronda, thanks for the response. I've pulled it apart a couple of times and have put it back together via the instructions I downloaded on the internet both times, and have had the same problem. To be honest, I can't answer that! I'll have to pull it apart this afternoon again to check.

  • Changing dvd drive help

I have a presario S7150 and want to change dvd/cd rom drive. New drive is S ATA old one is IDE, cant find where to plug the SATA cable into .
Do I need an adapter or is there a place to plug in on the motherboard and if so where.

That motherboard does not have SATA ports: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00100539&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en...
    There are choices, however.
    1) Install a PCI adapter card:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1281807&CatId=1455
    2) Get a different  DVD drive.  They still have IDE drives available:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007589%20600003705&IsNodeId=1&name=ID...
    3) Get an enclosure for the drive that was purchased to make it USB:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817145068
    4) replace motherboard with newer device interfaces (not recommended for you hardware)

  • Is it easy to install a new DVD drive in my Powerbook?

I recently posted a question about installing a new fan into my Powerbook G4. Someone put up a link to a photo-page of instructions that scared me right out of doing it myself. Big project.
Now my internal CD/DVD drive is shot. Is it easy to install a new one myself? Just a few screws and a yank and I can plug in a new one? Or is it not as easy as that?
Would you recommend a techno-greenie try something like this himself? I'm not afraid of opening the case, but I don't know anything else about computer guts and I don't want to risk damaging anything else in there.
Thank you in advance for anyone who might be able to help me.
If anyone knows of photo instructions online, that would be a super-help.
    -JOHN

Here's a pretty good description of the steps with pictures: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Al-17-Inch/SuperDrive/55/8/Page-1 . You didn't say which model you have, these are the instructions for all but the very last 1.67Ghz Hi-rez 17" PowerBook.

  • Ata problems with new dvd drive. [SOLVED]

I just bought a new dvd-burner. At the first boot I noticed a lot of messages along the lines of:
    ata2 exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen
and an extremely long boot time. 3 to 5 minutes. When finally booting in to system the drive seems very sluggish to mount. Should I disable sata and pata in mkinitcpio? Is my new hardware crap?
Its a Samsung Writemaster DVD-burner btw.

  • New DVD Drive not recognized by Itunes? Error 2550

    Hey all,
So i go to burn a cd and i get the Disk Burner or Software not found error message. I start doing a little research and I find out that maybe my new optical drive I just bought isn't supported and it tells me to check this i need to go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced in the Itunes window and if my DVD drive is not supported it won't have anything in the DVD section of that. Well there is a DVD drive listed but its my old one, anyone know if I can somehow force itunes to recognize that i have a new Drive? I mean its a new sony drive, i imagine it should be supported.

    Hi sisujoel,
    Give Patchburn a try.

  • New DVD Drive reads some DVD's not all, why?

    Hi,
I recently replaced my old dvd/cd drive in my notebook pavillion 2945se.  It seems to work well except it only reads some store bought dvd's.   It can read Star Trek: voyager, dc movies, disney,  star wars discs, and most other store bought dvds  but doesn't read marvel movies, import movies.
All of these were readable with my old drive.  All other functions such as burning dvd/cd, and even lightscribing work.  I have updated as far as everything that I can including codecs and using microsoft "fix-it" support which actually fixed some burning issues.
My theory is that the drive is more sensitive to flawed or dirtier discs, but considering these were readable before.  Is there a fix for this?
I'm hoping that there is a fix for this since there are not many options for my laptop drive.  Currently it is:
tsst corp cd/dvdw ts-l632m ata device
    Thanks for your help.

Firmware update of DVD drive may solve your problem. But the main problem is to find the correct one. I found this by google.
However, I'm not recommend it, since I dont have real experience updating ts-l632m. I updated my DVD drive of dell notebook a while ago but using the recommended firmware from dell site.

  • Install new hard drive HELP !!!

Hello, I just install a new 500gb hard drive into my uni mb replacing my 160gb. I have nothing really important to save from my previous hard drive. I am starting from scratch. After installing the new hard drive and inserting the disc 1 and press 'c'. Follow the screen instruction but only get to step 3 where screen ask ' SELECT A DESTINATION'. I have waited for 30 mins and all i see was the same screen. I am unable to click on options and continue cos they were greyed out. The only button that is nor grey is the 'go back'.
I am eagerly trying to get this new hard drive installed. What should i do next. Have tried the restart and all i am able to continue is until the Select a destination page.
Hope to get a good advice from here and .......
Thanking you in advance for all help and assistance.

Finally get the new hard drive installed from sratched. Once again many thanks to ypw. Once i clear the 'select a destination' step, the rest comes easy even for a novice like me.
Just for those who are curious to know the model of the hard drive that I installed. It is Hitachi 5K500 B-500. Choose this over the more popular WD Scorpion blue that most people are using.

  • Needs new hard drive- help required.

    Hello all.
For reasons that don't really matter- my hard drive has become corrupt- I believe it is the recovery partition on the hard drive. The device won't restore to factory nor will it update. Sometimes I have to unplug it and plug it in just to get movies to play.
Basically- I need to rebuild a new hard drive with the Apple TV OS on it- and all 3 partitions, but I don't know:
    1. Where to get the OS.
    2. How to create that recovery partition successfully
I'm pretty sure if I could get a .dmg of the OS or whatever form it will come in that I can just load those files into the boot partition. The 3rd partition is just empty for storage, and trickiest of all (to me) is the apple recovery partition.
My Apple TV is a couple years old so it's out of warranty.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Where to get the OS.
You can get the Apple TV OS! Just use a network sniffer while the Apple TV download the update and you'll find the address of the Apple server to go to download the OS on your mac. It appears that Apple only provides the 2 most recent versions of the Apple TV OS (As of today 3.01 and 2.4). Alternatively, you can google to find the address of the Apple Server. This info has been on the net forever and I just make sure to download a copy of the Apple TV OS each time a new version is released.
    2. How to create that recovery partition successfully
I haven't yet use it to upgrade my Apple TV drive (waiting to be out of warranty) but the instructions available on the net to upgrade the drive should help on how to use the OS images instead of cloning a previous Apple TV drive.
I'd greatly appreciate if you could share your experience on how you got it done. This will also be very useful to go back to previous version of the OS higher than the version in the recovery partition.

  • NOT POSSIBLE TO START UP PAST GREY SCREEN, WOULD A NEW HARD DRIVE HELP

I have attempted all the different ways to startup past the grey screen but with no success, would a new hard drive rectify this problem?

What model MacBook do you have? What operating system is installed on it? Specifically, what things have you tried so far?
While installing a new hard drive would very likely fix this, it is probably overkill. It may be that all you need to do is reinstall the operating system.
Do you have an install DVD that came with the computer?
    Best of luck.

  • New hard drive help (first timer)

alright, i bought a new hard drive to install into my macbook pro, as i am running out of space on my current hard drive, i bought a new one from OWC and it came with this little "instant external" pack to make the hard drive into an external so i can prepare it for making it the main hard drive. my dilemma is that i dont have my snow leopard recovery disks anymore, i must of lost them when i moved, is there anyway to put snow leopard onto the external(but going to be the new main hard drive)?
if not, is there a way i can make new recovery disks?

I am assuming your new drive is a lot bigger than your old one.  So why not simply clone your boot drive on to the the new drive mounted in an external enclosure?
You can use any backup utility capable of cloning a bootable backup.  Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper are two such utilities.  I believe even Disk Utility's Restore function can do it too.
Once you have the clone, remove it from the enclosure and stick it in your machine.

  • G4 cube DVD drive help?

Hi all. I am playing with a G4 cube now (450mHz, 1g Ram, DVD drive). The problem I have is the DVD drive can read DVDs, music CDS, but not data CDs. Any suggestions. I'd appreciate it.

What is the media format (RW? +R? -R?) and formatting used (Mac? PC (and which?)? Unix?) for the data CDs? Is this just happening on specific CDs you have recently tried to use or on data CDs from everybody at any time, even ones that worked before? Commercial CDs as well as home-made ones?
At this stage I'm going to hazard a guess that these are burned CDs. Burned media on a whole is harder for drives to read and if a drive is old and starting to show problems (normally solved most easily and inexpensively by replacing the drive) it is usually with burned media first.
