New DVD Player Update

I just downloaded the most recent DVD Player update, and now my DVD player doesn't display video. It does play the audio files, and if I click to the DVD menu on the controller, and guess-click to a chapter, it will play the audio, but I only see a black screen. Anyone else having this problem? Know of a fix?
Thanks -

im having problems on a Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram with DVD player
I went from os 10.3.3 to 10.4.0 (after a total disk erase) and did the update online straight after to 10.4.4
if I put in a dvd it kind of opens up in dvd player 4.6.5 but the whole system freezes - even alt-apple-escape takes ages to respond to force quit out of dvd player
I also have 10.4.4 on a dual 450 g4 which I updated the same day and there isnt a problem
Im amazed that a solution to this is not easier to find on apples site - its obvious that it is happening to several people
Has anyone found a solution???
Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram (and which Im thinking of ram..... Im really annoyed for apple putting 2 x 256 ram chips in the computer. When I ordered a 512 ram chip with the laptop I assumed it would take me up to 1gig but no when I got the machine and opened up I found out that I would have to take one of the 256 chips out in order to get the 512 one in!!!!! and a 1gig chip costs 300euro!!! )

  • The new flash player update crashes internet explorer and firefox

The new flash player update crashes internet explorer and firefox, please send a new release to fix the problem ASAP!

ok   here's more mystery.  i just uninstalled and reinstalled flash player using the adobe uninstaller and rebooting after each step.  aqlso installed latest java.  i started looking at videos and here are the ones that worked: you tube
                                                                                           imdb
                                                                                           hulu
                                                                                           ebaumsworld
here are the ones that didn't work:    yahoo
                                                                                           msn
                                                                                           reuters
here are the ones that partially worked: the blaze (works on videos that originate from you tube, but not from news stories)
bing (work on videos from their video section - entertainment type, but not from news videos)
the common thing here seems to be that news type videos crash and entertainment type don't.  also videos seem more likely to crash on internet portals like yahoo

  • DVD not playing in newer DVD player

    Here's what I'm using:
PowerBook G4 with a combo drive
    OS X 10.3.9
External Lacie 16x DVD Firewire 2.0 d2 drive
Toast Lite (came with DVD burner)
    iMovie 5 and iDVD 5
    Using Sony brand DVD-R disks
I created 2 movies in iMovie and imported them into iDVD. I used one of the motion menus available in iDVD5. When I was finished with my project, I saved a disk image to my desktop. I mounted the image to my desktop.
Toast Lite has 4 options - Data, Audio, Video or Copy.
I selected Data (I will explain why Data in a moment) and burned the mounted disk image. The DVD WILL play on my Mac, on a PC, on my TV DVD player (RCA brand) but it will NOT play on my bosses "very high tech, Sony Dream Machine" DVD player that is only 2 years old.
Now, I know everyone is going to tell me I should have selected Video in Toast Lite, but it doesn't work. If I select Video I receive error messages saying it can't read the files. According to Lacie's message boards - once you have made a "Disk Image" and mounted it, all the video encoding has already taken place, therefore Data should be selected in Toast Lite.
I've read in many places on these boards that the type of media used could be the problem. But I would think that a Sony Disk would work in a Sony machine.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I'm ready to beat my head against a wall.

Disk Utility works fine with my external LaCie drive. I have encoded several projects in iDVD as disc images and then burned them to DVDs. However, I use Toast primarily and have used Toast 5, 6 and 7 over the past 2 years. In Toast, select the copy option. Select the tab that gives you the expaned options and select disc image. Then simply drag your disc image into the Toast window. I have experienced no problems playing any of the DVDs in my home machines.

  • Unable to do ANYTHING with new Flash Player Update

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Flash Player 10.3 to work on my Windows 64-bit OS with the latest version of IE 9.  It worked fine until the June 28th update and then nothing.  I have been working on all the recommendations from the troubleshooting page of Adobe's support page, including making another User Account (which has it working perfectly, btw), but to no avail.  When I try to go to the download page and hit the button, the screen goes to the page that shows the instructions for when the yellow box appears uptop...but then it does nothing.  It doesn't download, it doesn't show the yellow box, nothing. Yesterday it was at least downloading the download manager, but now it won't even do that.  I've tried the hardware acceleration changes, the security changes, disabling the anti-virus, everything they've recommended in troubleshooting.  I've even tried installing a previous version (the one before June 28th) and it just tells me I need to update my Flash Player.  I'm at a complete loss here.  I even tried System Restore and it did nothing.  Any ideas at all?
Oh, and when I go to check what version I have installed (the Control Panel/Uninstall page shows Flash Player as being installed due to the other account's installation), that page only shows a blank white box with a red circle and cross bar in it and no version number whatsoever.
I do have Google Chrome also installed on my system, if that might be a problem, but I've had both on my system for as long as I can remember Chrome being out and never had this problem, as I said before, before the latest update.

Hi, I just reviewed your info and you may want to see if this is a problem.
Then when you reply back, are you using Win7 or what OS? I know it's a 64bit.

  • DVD player 4.6 not updating to 4.6.1

Everytime I run the updater, and then check the version info on the DVD player, it shows 4.6

    David,
If you haven't yet installed the updater, i recommend holding on that for a few weeks. Here's why. At least one of my four macs, hates this particular 4.6.1 updater in that it now stutters on playback (normally just at the very start of most commercial DVD's); but noticeably nevertheless.
Not sure why, nor if it's the updater itself, or something else. However, when i revert to an older startup volume with the former DVD Player then it plays all DVD's perfectly.
The other 3 macs are all newer and do not have any issues whatsoever with the most current DVD Player / updater. If you do opt to install, I'd recommend going forward with caution.

It will on play on my desktop
I do have husbands laptop - Windows whatever I will see if I can connect to TV
Any other format to try burn? Do I just need a new DVD player? I'll hope they have a newer one.
Thanks - I am running out of time.

    Hi Patti,
    welcome to this forum
there's no such thing as "DVDVCPRO"-video-dvd.... that is just an export option in iM for.... you're short in time, forget it...
in Toast 6.1.1. (you need the latest update), choose "video" and simply drag'n drop your whole iM project (NO export needded!) into it - boom, done...
post here progress of your project, the European dayshift is awake ;-))

  • Problems with DVD Player 3.0.1 in G4/466

Problems with DVD Player in G4/466
Yes, I've a g4/466 with two disks. In the first there's system 9.2.2 and the DVD player goes perfect. In the second I've system 10.2 and the 9.2, and the DVD Player (3.0.1) on the system 10 begins to jump in the dock, but stop and nothing happens, I can't open it...
There's any way to reinstal it form system disks???
Or any download to check the error?
    Thanks

    1. Try using Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.2 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X and any applicable DVD Player updates.
    2. Open the Console application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look for lines relating to the DVD Player.

  • "Rolling" interference on DVD player

I've run out of ideas so hoping somebody here can think of something I haven't tried.
The office just bought a new DVD player (Panasonic DVD-S53) and VHS (JVC HM-DT100) to transfer video/audio to FCP. Both replaced previous models that needed to be retired. Both are going into a Comprehensive Video Group CVG-4X4s vertical interval switcher.
Here's the problem: the DVD player is having some sort of interference problem that is causing a rolling video 'artifact.' We've tried everything we can think of. Switched cables, switched it from SVHS to regular video out, moved the DVD player away from all electronics, plugged it into another surge protector. Moved the Switcher
It only is affecting the DVD (the output of both goes from the Switcher via the same cable and the VHS looks perfect).
    Any other suggestions?

Huh...other threads have said that using things like MPEG Streamclip or Cinematize will make footage look worse due to the whole 'uncompressing/estimating of missing frames' thing...so who knows what to believe?
Unfortunately need to use DVDs sometimes...some publicists only have B-Rolls on DVD, actors need Demo Reels, etc. etc. etc.
Seem to have figured a work-around (having it go directly to the Sony DSR-45 instead of the switcher...causes a few more steps, but the interference has all but vanished. Still don't understand why the DVD player is the only device affected but...there you go!)

  • DVD player that will work with a portable hard drive

I have a large collecion of movie on my hard drive. I am interested in purchasing a new DVD player and am interested in being able to transfer movies from my computer to a western digital / My passbook portable USB hard drive. and play them directly from the had drive without burning them to a DVD disk. Any suggestions?

I think some DivX-certified players can play DivX content from USB storage devices and not just disc media.  Anything that works with thumb drives should work with external hard drives.
One exception:  2.5" hard drives need a LOT of power from the USB port, some players might not like this.  3.5" hard drives with an external power supply are a safe bet with anything that supports thumb drives.
A PS3 will definitely do the trick.  Many Blu-Ray players are likely to do it too.  BBY lists 41 Blu-Ray players with USB ports - but on some of those the USB port may only be for WiFi, not sure.

  • DVD Player Zoom Problem...

DVD Player has the ability to remember zoom settings on previously inserted DVD's. However I have found that the only way that this works is if you leave zoom checked and running all the time. This is fine. However, what I have also figured out is that if for example you insert a disk that needs to be zoomed and then follow that with one that doesn't ( and has never been inserted before), the default behavior is zoomed.
Why I am posting is to find out if anyone else has noticed this and been bothered by it. If so please send feedback to apple to get this added to the next DVD Player update.
The expected behavior for me would be defaulting to unzoomed, or having a choice as to where to set the default by possibly setting it without a dvd inserted.
    Thanks,
    Larry

This has already been fixed for the next version by resetting back to the normalized state when the disc is ejected.

  • DVD Player - lost

    Hi there,
I don't know how this happened, but my DVD Player icon now shows as a grey question mark on the dashboard. I have search for the App and it is not to be found on my system (MBP).
How do I go about re-installing this application which I assume is part of Leopard. Is there an easy way to just re-install this from the disk that came with my laptop? If so, how do I go about remedying the situation.
By the way, I noticed it was showing the question mark before I upgraded to 10.5.2 from 10.5.1. It just caught my eye again.
    Thank you in advance.
    Lynn

    Hi there,
Well, I still have this problem even though I ended up calling Apple Tech Support who directed me to an Apple Support website and where I downloaded DVD Player 4.6 from. Problem is, 4.6 is older than what is on Leopard. It also told me that it found a newer version of DVD Player on my hard drive. I have a "DVD Player" application that shows up when searched for; however, there is an error with it. When you double-click on it you see the Application icon and to the right of the icon are "??". Below this is "?? - 10960". Therefore, is my newer DVD Player still in fact resident on the Macintosh HD? How do I re-install it. The Apple person had me check the installation options from my original disks but we couldn't find a way to simply re-install the DVD Player. If I re-installed iDVD 2008 would that be sufficient, in other words is DVD Player buried within that application?
Looking forward to more assistance. I didn't really want to have to re-install Leopard on this almost-1-month-old computer. However, options much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Lynn

  • DVD player audio output direct to Cambridge Soundworks FourPointSurround FPS2000

I want to purchase a new DVD player and route the surround sound audio directly to my FPS2000. However, I can't seem to find a DVD player whose output jacks include either the 9-pin SPDIF cable or the Front/Rear channel jacks called for by the FPS2000.
How can I get surround sound audio from a modern DVD output jack to my FPS2000? Is there an adapter that would work?
