New Earbud controls - Ipod Classic

I have an ipod classic 160gb.  i bought a new iphone 5, and when I try to use the new controls, it doesnt adjust the volume or change the song.  I have the latest software update for my ipod classic, but it doesnt control my ipod classic.  the question is, can you use the inline controls on the earbuds for hte classic, or is this not a feature that can be used for the classic.  This is very frustrating, as everywhere I read, it says that it can be done.  Need your help.
Thanks!!

BTW, I have the 2009 5th Generation Ipod Classic

  • How do I manually move a playlist from new iTunes to ipod classic?

My iTunes just updated itself. Now the screen looks totally different. I want to manually move a playlist from the new iTunes to my iPod classic. It worked perfectly yesterday, but now that that the iTunes updated, the page doesn't show my iPod so I can't manually move the playlist to the iPod.

    Hi Carol,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're running into an issue syncing music to your iPod classic since updating iTunes because of the way it looks now. You can make iTunes look more like the previous version by showing the Sidebar, as described in the article below.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Customize the iTunes window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12364
    Choose View > Show Sidebar.
The Sidebar replaces the Library menu, the Devices button, and the iTunes Store button. To return to the default view, choose View > Hide Sidebar.
And, this article provides a detailed walkthrough for syncing content to your iPod.

    I hope this helps.

  • A new concept of iPod classic

    The scrolling is  automatic.
Scroll speed depends on the distance of your finger from the central button (button should be in the center-not like on the picture).
The screen is getting bigger but ipod classic atmosphere is maintained.
Also it should be thinner =)
Don't judge me strictly, I'm just having fun

I do think there's a need for a high capacity audio player out there that keeps pace with modern design and technology and comes in at or below the current price of the ipod classic.  How about an adaption of the latest generation nano, but with a bigger hard drive?  You take that at $150, figure no more than $100 extra for the bigger harddrive, and it seems like they'd be set.
But I don't think Apple really wants us to have big hard drives anymore, which is why they aren't upgrading the ipod classic and may stop making them at some point, in my opinion.  They want us dependent on the cloud.  I'm not interested in being cloud dependent.  The cloud is fine as a backup or for specific situations where it comes in handy, but, in general, I want all my music on my PC and on my ipod or portable music player.  For that, I need capacity.  And if it backs stuff up to the cloud in case of a hard drive failure or in case I am using a friend's device sometime, great.  But a 2 or 8 or even 16 gigabyte player is almost worthless to me.

  • What's new in the iPod classic firmware v1.3?

I was just wondering because I hadn't noticed anything new.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't seem to find anything explaining what the firmware update is supposed to accomplish.
Also, is their a good reason why the 5th Gen Video iPod can't download rented movies? I know the new Classic can... this makes no sense.

  • New ipod classic, music sync error

On Sunday I got a new silver 160gb ipod classic. Today in unpackaged it followed the quick start instructions, so connected ipod to the computer to charge, registered it, and then chose to sync (autosync) my iTunes library, and everything was going fine about a quarter of the way through. I decided to leave the computer to let it finish and charge fully. However when I returned it said there had been an error syncing "JAMES'S iPOD". So I decided to sync again, and now when I try and sync it comes up with the message "Attempting to copy the disk ~ JAMES'S IPO ~ failed. An Unknown error occured (-81)", and then when I press ok on that the message "The iPod ~ JAMES'S IPOD ~ cannot be synced. An Unknown error has occured (-48)".
I'm a bit confused as to why this seems to happen with my brand new ipod, and want to get using it! Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem?
Thanks , let me know if you need any more info

I've got the same exact problem. mine says:
"The iPod "iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error has occured (-48)."
I've had my iPod now for about 2 years and I usually don't have too many problems with it. I've tried everything that apple has suggested, except for the restore option. NO WAY AM I RESTORING MY iPOD!!! I've got like over 2000 songs on that thing and they aren't backed up! It's too much work to back up all those songs. I've reinstalled iTunes, I've restarted my computer and my iPod, but no matter what happens I can't put new music on it. I can listen to the music on and off my computer, but I can't make any changes. This is driving me crazy. I haven't been able to put new songs on my iPod in a while and have been listening to the same old things. Now that I've finally able to download new ones this thing just craps out on me. I just want to put new songs on my iPod, but can't. What's the point of having an iPod you can't change it? Also for some reason i've got duplicate songs that I now can't erase. Apple is just letting me down more and more lately.

  • Please help!! Ipod classic error message: "...cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified

So I bought a "new to me" Ipod classic (gen 7, 160 gb) I have a gen 6-160gb already but I wanted the gen 7. I bought this one used from GameStop(i did purchase the warranty so if there is no solution I may have to put it to use). It was not restored to factory settings or anything when I purchased it. So to start out I restored to factory settings. It had originally been used for a Mac, and I operate with Windows so it wouldn't do anything unless I restored it and started over fresh. I tried to sync it but it gave me an error message (i cannot recall what it said- but i believe it was the same as i am getting now). It only synced about half my songs (I have over 3000 on Itunes and it only did about 1400). I tried to restore factory settings again and after it finished it showed all my songs on the ipod, but the error message still popped up. My songs play on my ipod just fine it shows all my songs and all my playlists. everything seems to be working fine but the message still returns. I plug in my Ipod to sync and instead of showing the screen where it tells you about firmware and updates etc that I always got with my other ipod it, the 'welcome to your new ipod' screen like it did after I restored it.
Can anyone help me fix this problem???? or am I royally screwed and need to throw in the towel?
Just to specify so there's no confusion:
Ipod in question- Classic Gen7 160gb
Ipod software version- 2.0.4 (as of 3/2/15)
    Itunes version- 12.0.1.26
    OS- Windows 7 64bit
if there is any other information needed please let me know (and an idea of how to find it.)
Im afraid to sync my Gen6 or other ipods (2 gen4 shuffles that are for my kids) for fear of something similar happening to them.

This error can also come from WireTap Pro or possibly Snapz Pro ! Look in your personal library itunes plug ins folder for anything called iToner - I found it in there and promptly removed it and now its working again... I never bought iToner but apparently Ambrosia software puts a supplement file in there so look around for it if you have any Ambrosia software products on your system you maybe need to hunt this little monster down.....
Needless to say I will never trust itunes plug in again from anyone.....

  • Strange noise from iPod classic

My new 160Gb iPod Classic make a strange whirring sound every once in a while. I realise this is probably the hard drive, but is it normal?

THANK YOU! I was worried when I purchased my new 7th generation ipod classic. :-)

  • Ipod Classic A/V Component Cable problem

    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble with my brand new, latest generation, Ipod Classic 160GB with tv out A/V component cable.
When I plug it on my tv I get a vertical split image with some color distortion. Sound is ok, though.
Funny part is that I also own a 2nd generation ipod touch and the cable work fine with it.
Please help me out! I've searched the entire internet and couldn't find nothing regarding this problem yet

This is probably a long shot but:
Are you getting both channels of sound? I know this sounds ludicrous, but a friend of mine had a third-party cable and it seems the colour coded sleeves - red, white and yellow - on the AV plugs were mixed up so that video was coming through one of the audio plugs. The upshot was that he got one channel of audio and video sash until he tried different combinations of plugging the cables into the ports.

  • Why is capacity on my ipod classic is significantly lower than expected?

I have a new 80 GB ipod classic. I loaded it with about 4 GB's or so of music in the first couple of days. Then on the the third day when I tried to add more music, it erased everything off the ipod that I had loaded previously and replaced it with the new music I had added by CD to my itunes library. Not knowing what to do, I "restored" the ipod by using the restore button then sync'd again with the result that all my music was back including the original music. The problem: it's as if the first 6 GB's of space is still used up and the scale on my summary tab shows the total capacity of my ipod as 74.31 GB's with only 5 GB's of music and other on the ipod. What is taking up the other space? It should be showing a total capacity of 80 BG with 75 GB's left. What's up? Any body know?

All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.

  • How do i get itunes to recognize or sync to my ipod classic

How do I sync my ipod classic to itunes so I can download purchased music?

    Hi mane_tamer,
Thanks for your question.  Do you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC?  If not, here's how to update it:
Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201352
    Windows
    Open iTunes
From the menu bar, choose Help > Check for Updates. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can find this option in the Advanced menu. Learn how to show the menu bar.
Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer, download it here.
Get more information about how to install and update iTunes and troubleshooting assistance.
If you are not prompted to install a new version of iTunes, you already have the latest version your operating system can support. See the System Requirements on the iTunes download page.
To learn how to sync your iPod Classic to iTunes for Windows, click on the iPod Classic User Manual below.  I've highlighted the key information about syncing for you (Pages 23-25.)

    Managing iPod classic Manually
Setting iTunes to let you manage iPod classic manually gives you the most flexibility for managing music and video on iPod classic. You can add and remove individual songs (including music videos) and videos (movies and TV shows). Also, you can add music and videos from multiple computers to iPod classic without erasing items already on iPod classic.
Note: Setting iPod classic to manually manage music and video turns off the automatic sync options in the Music, Movies, and TV Shows panes. You cannot manually manage one and automatically sync another at the same time.
To set iTunes to let you manage music and video on iPod classic manually:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list and click the Summary tab.
2  In the Options section, select “Manually manage music and video.”
    3  Click Apply.
Note: When you manage songs and video yourself, you must always eject iPod classic from iTunes before you disconnect it.
To add a song, video, or other item to iPod classic:
1  Click Music or another Library item in the iTunes source list.
2  Drag a song or other item to the iPod classic icon in the source list.
To remove a song, video, or other item from iPod classic:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list.
2  Select a song or other item on iPod classic and press the Delete or Backspace key on
    your keyboard.
If you manually remove a song or other item from iPod classic, it isn’t deleted from your iTunes library.
To make a new playlist on iPod classic:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list, and then click the Add (+) button or
    choose File > New Playlist.
2  Type a name for the playlist.
3  Click an item, such as Music, in the Library list, and then drag songs or other items to the playlist.
To add songs to or remove songs from a playlist on iPod classic:
m Drag a song to a playlist on iPod classic to add the song. Select a song in a playlist and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the song.
If you set iTunes to manage music manually, you can reset it later to sync automatically.
To reset iTunes to sync all music automatically on iPod classic:
In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list and click the Music tab. Select “Sync music” and then choose “All songs and playlists.”
    Click Apply.
    The update begins automatically.
Note: If “Only sync checked items” is selected in the Summary pane, iTunes syncs only items that are checked in your Music and other libraries.
    Enjoy!

  • IPod Classic not working unless docked

I have a new 7th gen iPod classic which is only 2wks old. It works perfectly fine when docked & states the battery is fully charged but as soon as I disconnect it becomes no responsive & the screen slowly fades until until it is off completely. Plug it back in & it works perfectly again. I've tried all the ways of trying to reset it but nothing appears to be working. Any ideas?

Since it is new, you should make a reservation at the Genius Bar, if there is an Apple Store conveniently located.
If there is no Apple Store nearby, look on the Contact Us link, at the bottom right corner of this web page.  Under Product & Technical Support - Contact Apple Support, it says "Mac, iPhone, iPod and iPad customers within 90 days of ownership are eligible for complimentary phone support — one support incident per iPod..."
For something like this, which sounds like a manufacturing defect, I think you should be speaking to an Apple tech support employee, either at the Genius Bar or on the phone.

  • My iPod Classic was stolen.  What to expect trying to access my "old" iTunes library?

My iPod Classic 160GB was stolen this week.  Got it for Xmas last year and had only started using it in the last few months.  It was loaded with 150+ GB of music.  I got a good deal today on a replacement 160GB Classic (7th gen) from Craigslist.  I'm charging it now but I'm wondering what problems I'm going to encounter trying to get my 150+GB of music onto this "new to me" iPod Classic.  It would be nice if I could simply sync the library to the iPod but I'm afraid it can't be that simple.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
I logged into Apple earlier trying to get the serial # off my stolen iPod Classic and noticed that I didn't see it registered with my iPhone and my other 2 iPod Nanos.  I was 99% sure I had registered it.  Is this in anyway a problem?  Could it have been re-registered by the person who stole it?  Actually, that would be nice because I still have the box with the serial #.  But just wondering what registering provides and how my Classic isn't there.
One other thing, can I simply register this "new to me" iPod Classic with Apple?
    Thanks!

If the media is in the library then yes it is that simple. Connect the device, load it up with your media. The problem is when you try to connect a full device to a new empty library on a new computer when iTunes will offer to replace the content on the device with that in the local library, i.e. nothing! (For anyone in that position see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device).
You should be able to add your devices at https://supportprofile.apple.com/ though I'm not sure what happens if the second hand iPod was previously registered.

  • Restoring ipod classic

    Hello!
I purchased a new 160 GB ipod classic and while trying to connect to itunes for the first time, the iPod said I need to restore it and when I plugged it in it started making the ticking sound it makes when you roll the click wheel and I tried to restore it but the operation stopped during the restoring and said there's an unknown error(1418)and that it can't restore and I tried again and then it restored the iPod but nothing else happened...when I restore the iPod it gives me a "do not disconnect" icon (an old one, in black & white) but when I do disconnect it it suddenly turns to "OK to disconnect". Now if I plug the iPod in, it gives me the 1418 again. What do I do???

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Error 1415, 1417, 1418, or 1428 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later

  • Unusual syncing problem with ipod Classic

I recently bought a new 160 Gb ipod Classic and the first one that came seemed to sync all my music but as soon as I removed the cable I got an Apple screen and an unresponsive ipod. Eventually Apple swapped it for a second ipod. I found it difficult to get this one to work properly although the hard disk on this one hadn't failed like the first one.
I did have to restore the new ipod at least twice and after the second time I decided not to sync all my music at once as before but selected a few genres to start with and it worked fine so I gradually selected more and more genres each time I synced it until I had all my music on the ipod. So all was fine.
After using the ipod for a couple of weeks or so with this I decided to try and sync the ipod by selecting All the music rather than by genre. As all the music was already on the ipod this didn't take very long to sync. As I normally play the music on random shuffle I selected shuffle and what happened next I've never seen before but the track that was about to be played appeared on the screen but didn't start playing. As I pressed the play button the track wouldn't play but the ipod jumped to the start of the next track and just kept doing that without playing anything.
I then stopped this and decided to sync the ipod as before by selecting all the genres. When this was done the ipod then played normally as before. While this is fine I'd like to be able to sync my ipod by selecting all the music as I've been doing for years with my old ipod Classic 80 Gb. Is there anyone who can explain what might be causing this problem to occur?

Ok here goes, after 6 weeks of restoring, resetting, putting device into manual scan, manually resetting, downloading itunes older versions, newer versions and all around fighting my ipod; I have had the same results. When restoring through itunes the ipod is "still named", now one would think when doing a full system restore on the ipod via itunes it would do a full restore and the name would be no longer existent, so not the case. I have gotten multiple error messages, this is the most prevalent, "The "ipod name" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified", another is in order for this ipod to work you must restore with itunes. I am thinking that there is problem with the new software, you see yesterday I set up a computer that has XP and itunes 7, the sync went without a hitch, no freezes, no long pauses, no problems. Then I made the mistake of hitting the button to update itunes "newer version", rediculous mistake. All of the problems are as pevalent as before, ipod will not sync, manually I can add movies and music but no more than 264 songs will add. My question is, why did Apple create this very nice, durable large player if they do not have the capability to serve they customers with the correct software?

i have a new (late 2012) Ipod Classic. can u put 2 itunes libraries on it? i want both mine and my fiances libraries on my ipod.

On the condition that you havent purchased the music off itunes, you could migrate your fiance's library into yours, then make 2 seperate playlists - one for yourself, and one for your fiance. That's all i can really think of :\ Sorry if this hasnt solved your question
